There's something to be said for age and experience........2000-05-30
The same as the first book in this series, I sometimes got a little impatient with the writing style but then also once again I still got a lot out of it. On to the last book...
This is the second of Henry's wonderful trilogy.......1999-08-02
Reading Henry Blake is like sitting on the porch listening to some nice old guy recount his life long adventures.
Thinking With Horses is Henry's second work and in my opinion, as interesting as his first book, Talking With Horses. In his second offering Henry explores more deeply into some of the mysteries of horse communication and behavior, but never loses the style ambiance that he attained in his first book.
I strongly suggest the reader progress through Henry's work in sequential order; Talking With Horses, Thinking With Horses and Horse Sense. By doing so the reader can enjoy the greater adventure in chronological sequence and fully enjoy the colorful characters, both human and equine, that Henry brings to life in his work.
Henry Blake is probably my most recommended author for horse enthusiasts and home horse trainers to read.

Book Description
This volume should be seen as an extension to both the existing publications for pollen identification and traditional floras based on gross morphology. In the NEPF a pollen type provides the basis for a hierarchical construction around which the diversity of palynomorphs can be organised and interpreted. It is not a physical specimen in a herbarium, as is the type of a species name, but rather a published account comprising detailed descriptions and comprehensive illustration.
In Volume VIII of "The Northwest European Pollen Flora" the following families are studied: Osmundaceae, Azollaceae, Salviniaceae, Droseraceae, Aizoaceae, Aristolochiaceae, Rhamnaceae, Vitaceae, Betulaceae (incl. Corylaceae), Myricaceae, Onagracea and Lythraceae.

Customer Reviews:
Solid Travel Guide for National Parks and Land in Eastern US.......2003-12-06
This is it -- the official travel guide to national parks and other federal lands of the National Park Foundation. Fodor's has put this book out and it is an excellent travel guide and introduction to 25 or so major attractions east of the Mississippi (plus two in Arkansas and one in Minnesota).
The first chapter has basic travel info including safety tips, park entrance fee information, suggestions on further detailed info for those interested and other general stuff that is helpful to those journeying out among our national public lands.
The chapters on individual parks are well organized over about twenty pages that gives enough information to serve as a total travel guide for those considering a visit. Each park has a good two tone map that is easy to read and provides good orientation. Besides information on what to do, trail options, fees and the basics, there is a helpful "if you only have one day" that allows whirlwind travelers the opportunity to focus on the memorable and highlights to give as good of a flavor of the particular park that one can acquire between sunup and sundown.
The only drawback is that the book has no pictures, so readers will probably want to check out online guides for those that pique their interests or use this book after they have seen photos of park attractions.
It is very well organized and a good essential for those planning park trips.

Book Description
All Isa wants is to be a regular American teenager, something her Cuban immigrant mother most definitely does not understand. After almost eighteen years of constant debate over everything from birthdays to boys, Isa has had enough. She's counting down the days until she leaves for college—and can get as far away from Miami (North Cuba) as possible. But the more Isa tries to detach herself from her roots, the more tangled she becomes. Will she ever find the normal American life she dreams of? Or is she destined to become a cubanita after all?
Customer Reviews:
In Cubanita, a teen grapples with her roots.......2006-08-08
Cubanita: ''a girl or woman of Cuban descent who embraces her culture."
That's not Isabel Diaz, the 17-year-old narrator in the new book, ''Cubanita."
This second novel by Miami native Gaby Triana explores the angst a teen faces as she comes to terms with her roots and with going away to college.
It's a book told from a teen's point of view about growing up in a bicultural world, specifically, Cuban and American. The author, a former school teacher, grew up in Miami to Cuban parents. She has said in interviews she always felt more comfortable speaking and writing English than Spanish, something many children of immigrants, no matter what nationality they are, can identify with.
While the book focuses on Isabel's cultural duality, the heart of the book is her relationship with her mother. More important, Triana explores the emotional umbilical cord that keeps so many adult Hispanics near their parents. It's her longing to be away on her own that makes Isabel realize who she really is and embrace where her family came from.
The book begins as Isabel, known as Isa to her family, prepares for her last summer in Miami before heading to UM -- the University of Michigan, not the University of Miami. Isabel's overprotective Cuban mother grows even more maternally suffocating as the summer unfolds.
Isabel breaks up with her high school sweetheart so she can have a clean start for her new college life, but her ex won't leave her alone. Neither will her mother.
Then Hurricane Andrew rolls into the Everglades summer camp where Isabel teaches art. But the Andrew that blows her away is a friendly cute guy, not the hurricane that devastated South Florida in 1992.
Isa begins dating Andrew, a 23-year-old student at the University of Miami. As she begins to fall for him, she learns the hard way that this Andrew, like the hurricane, is a dangerous one-hit wonder.
In the meantime, a sudden family illness forces Isabel to reevaluate her priorities and, perhaps, stay in Miami for college. It is then she realizes the sacrifices her grandparents and her parents made for a better life in the United States. Isabel also learns that even though she has never been to Cuba, it is an important part of her cultural DNA.
Triana writes the book in a fluid, conversational, in-your-face style. It's as if the teen character was in the room with you, gabbing about her experiences.
The author generously peppers humorous Spanish sayings throughout the book, but their meanings are clear. It's an easy and entertaining read, and the plot moves at a brisk pace, which will keep readers, even younger ones, hooked.
But it's the lively interaction between Isabel and her mother that resonates the most, making the surrounding boyfriend drama and looming freshman year in college take a back seat.
Isabel's mother often gives her advice as she prepares ''Kee-line pie," pokes her head into her bedroom to drop off laundry, or shops at the local Hispanic supermarket.
''I can tell she's trying real hard to stay out of my business, but she can't. Number one, she's a mom, and number two, because she's a Cuban mom," Triana writes. ''If she doesn't pester me to death about my life, they just might revoke her Cuban Mother License to Drive Daughters Away."
Any teenager, regardless of what flag their parents wave, could relate.
A great choice .......2006-04-09
I read this book and loved it.It is almost like my life in a book.Alot of the places mentioned in this book are real places in Miami like the Big Cheese,Baptist Hospital,Sedano's, and more. I would reccomend this book for any teen because there are alot of great lessons learned.
Mixed bag.......2005-11-06
This was a very nice young adult book, and 'clean' in comparison to many others in this genre. The main character Isabel is, like many teens, embarrassed by her mother, and
does everything she can to distance herself from her Cuban roots. Most of the book focuses on Isabel's relationship with her mother, and the struggles they have to agree on issues. Isabel's mother is very proud of her Cuban heritage and wants Isabel to feel the same way - which she doesn't. The family lives in Miami, but Isabel doesn't participate in anything having to do with her Cuban heritage. Isabel is a smart young woman who has a variety of friends and talents. One of her talents is art, and she spends her final summer before college teaching art at a summer camp. There, she meets Andrew, and begins a relationship with him. Unfortunately, Andrew isn't everything he seems to be, and although there is some romance, the couple never makes it to the 'big act.' I think the author did a really good job of making Isabel and her entire family likeable. The book will appeal to teen and pre-teen girls not only because of the super-cute cover, but because the story is solid and the characters are fun. The author also intermixed many Spanish words with the English text, and explained what everything meant. The only part that could have been omitted was any reference to Isabel's sister Carmen - we only 'hear'
from Carmen through 2 emails, and her presence in the book was minimal and unnecessary. I was pleased with the ending and overall, feel that it was a book well worth my time and recommendation.
Pretty Good.......2005-10-30
I could relate to this book because my family is very proud of their culture, and they wish that I could appreciate it more and see it the way that they do. After reading this book, I began to learn that me and Isabel, the main character, share the same characteristics. Isabel wishes that she could "just be an American." I understood that because, in America, my ethnicity is a minority, and people just don't understand it. If I was just American, I would be just like n\most of the other people. In the left inside cover of the book, it says that "we all have room in us to become more than who we think we are." This book helps to "discover your roots." I realized that if I was just American, I wouldn't get to have all these cool traditions and more that I still don't know about. Overall, I think that this is a good book because it tells about Isabel's love and the betrayl that she endured, what she did to get revenge, and how she became closer to her mom after she discovered that she had breast cancer. This is a bitter sweet book, with a happy ending, because she finally gets to live on her own in an apartment and she attends the college of her dreams.
Nothing Special.......2005-09-17
I was really surprised to find myself considerably bored for a large portion of this book. Usually I love books like these: light, funny, and heartfelt. But, unfortunately, this book was none of those. I gave it 3 stars because it had its moments, but it was predictable and monotonous. I actually found the main character unlikable and quite mean at times. I never truly understood why she treated her mother like she did, and it was never portrayed clearly. I would recommend reading it from the library to see if it is your cup of tea before you buy it. I'm very glad I actually won this book in a contest rather than have spent $11 of my own money on it. Pick up "Born Confused" or something instead.

Book Description
The quest for the elucidation of the molecular anatomy of life has been the key driver for all the genome projects and the development of a variety of new technological areas, e.g. Genomics, Functional Genomics, Differential Display, DNA-Chips, Transcriptomics, and Proteomics. In contrast to the Genome which reflects a huge but still countable number of genes and DNA building blocks (information), the number of possible Proteomes which reflect the dynamic adaptation of protein networks in a given organism (function) to all kinds of changes is infinite. In the last decade, experimental approaches and all kinds of supporting technologies were developed which now allow scientists to address most of the problems in Proteome Analysis and Proteomics. In the present volume, the editors and authors have focused on the impact of Proteomics on products and processes, the application of Proteomics in microbiology and industrial biotechnology, as well as new important technology developments in Proteomics.

In their solutions, the authors have attempted to convey a mode of approach to these kinds of problems, revealing procedures that can reduce the labor of calculations while avoiding the pitfall of too much or too powerful formalism. Although well suited for individual use, the volume may also be used with one of the modern textbooks in general relativity.

Good book.......2007-09-10
I found it very helpful for my General Relativity course. There is really nothing else like this out there ... and for those of us that learn best by example, this book is a bargain.
