Soccer Halfback.......2006-10-16
This book was full of energy. As you know this book is a sports book and is very exciting. The book seems as if the author tells the story with play by play action, making sure you don't miss any action. The book is mainly about a boy who plays soccer, but some of his family really wants him to play football. It is his first year of soccer to and he is very good. That's why it is such a hard decision for him. I recommend this book to middle school kids. The vocabulary isn't hard and it's really just a book that's fun to read.
Socer Halfback .......2006-05-24
Jabber Halpkins is in the team, the Razorbacks. Throughout the year he and his team play against the Blue Jackets. The team goes through team problems with injuries and people quitting, but they win and beat the toughest team ever and make some new friends. I recommend this book to book worms that like sports.
Soccer Halfback: A Goal Kicking Book.......2003-11-12
BAM! "The Razorback player kicked the ball and hits Jabber Morris in the chest and knocked the breath out of him" That is just a small portion of the action that happens in "Soccer Halfback".
In the story "Soccer Halfback" this boy named Jabber Morris plays soccer and loves it. Bit the problem is that his dad (who played football) has passed away and now his whole family wants him to give up soccer and switch over to football. Will Jabber destroy all of his dreams to make his family happy?
I thought that "Soccer Halfback") has the so far the best book I have ever read it has action, love, and a lot of feeling. This book keeps you guessing until the very end when all of your questions you might ask yourself while reading get answered.
I think that this book could influence on anyone who has a lot of pressure on them and is someone who wants to make a lot of people happy. Well this is like all the bad things that happens to Jabber in "Soccer Halfback". See most people in this world has parents who wants you to do something you absolutely hate and you have a dream of being a soccer player, dancer, singer etc.
I recommend this book to anyone who plays soccer or like the game or for anyone who has a lot of things of their plate and your parents are pressuring to do something you hate, well this is the book for you.
Do you want to know if Jabber is going to destroy his dreams? You better read this book! You can check this book out at any local library.
Super Soccer Story.......2003-05-14
Do you like playing soccer? If so you might want to read Soccer Halfback by Matt Christopher. The book is about two brothers, Jabber and Pete. Jabber plays soccer and Pete plays football. Pete loses his wallet and Jabber finds it but Pete thinks he took it! This causes a minor problem. To read about other problems in this story, read this book.
I liked this book because it is really exciting reading about the teams playing each other. On a scale of one to ten I would give this book a nine.
I think Matt Christopherýs purpose for writing this book is to show that team work is special.

Bubbles
What are bubbles made of?
Why are they always round?
Read and find out about the science behind soap bubbles, and learn why bubbles always go POP!
Customer Reviews:
Excellent science book.......2005-08-15
"A Book about Bubbles" is an excellent science story. It explains how bubbles are made, why they are round and what causes them to pop. It's written clearly and crisply. It explains concepts (e.g., stickiness, roundness) well and in a way that young children can easily grasp. Yet it is fun and inspires curiosity. The photos depict kids of all races and all ages working and playing with bubbles. A good science book will fill a child with wonder about her world. This one does it. Good for smart and focused 2.5 year olds up to age 7.
great for bubble blowers.......2002-08-30
Who knew that blowing bubbles could be educational? My seven year old son was asking lots of questions about bubbles so we read this book at the library.
It's great for kids ages 4-10. It tell how bubbles are made and why they are round and things like that. The pictures are great also!!

emotional and touching reflections.......2000-06-15
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is the type of book you can pick up anytime and browse through for just one story, or read from cover to cover in one sitting. This book gives sweet reflections from fathers and daughters about their relationships. The anecdotes range from humorous and touching, to sad and bittersweet. Any father or daughter can find a story to relate to...and shed tears over with this loving reflection of father/daughter relationships. I would reccommend this book to anyone.
Book Description
You can hardly pick up a magazine or turn on the TV today without encountering a torrent of talk on weight. But all too rarely do we hear from overweight people themselvesespecially menabout how life feels inside the body of a fat person. Mike Berman shares that story in this hopeful and uplifting memoir. A self-proclaimed fat man who is also a happy mansuccessful in his career, marriage, and friendshipsBerman has earned his insight and peace of mind through decades of personal struggle. In Living Large, this well-known political activist and Washington lobbyist never shies away from the pain and daunting challenges of being seriously overweight. But Berman has an important message that he wants to be heard: Fatness is not a moral failing, but a disease; and once it is accepted as such, it can be successfully managed. Laurence Shames, author of Not Fade Away, has tackled this important story and captured Mike Bermans voice as movingly as he did the late Peter Bartons in that beloved, critically acclaimed memoir.
Customer Reviews:
Really for anyone -- fat or thin.......2007-05-10
A wonderfully written, honest, and thoughtful account of life as a large person. It is engrossing and informative, even if you're a sylph.
An Honest & Compelling Walk in A "Fat Man's" Shoes.......2007-04-03
We received Living Large at a book signing party and hadn't yet had the chance to read it. I found it on the shelves the other night and tore through it within several consecutive nights of reading well past the time I should have!
Mike has done a tremendous job of speaking to those who might know his experience, but he also offers a tremendous gift to anyone who cares about someone who struggles with weight or lives as a fat person. He tells the truth about himself -- the easy and the hard truths -- and allows the reader to see the world a little bit differently as a result.
I have recommended his book to my entire family in hopes that we can better understand those we love in our lives who struggle with this very issue.
An extraordinarily compelling, honest account........2006-10-30
I'm neither a man, nor overweight, but neverthelesss I found LIVING LARGE to be a fascinating book. I read it in two sittings. Berman's account of his struggle with food--with the yo-yo of weight gains, the humiliations of being fat, the sheer discomfort of the extra weight, his hard-won advice, the dynamic within his marriage--is very compelling. He's honest about the good things (and there are many) in his life, as well as the challenges.
My husband is a big guy and I didn't understand.......2006-06-06
My husband has been a "big" guy for many years and I didn't understand what it's like for him to struggle in society as being overweight and all the burdens that go along with it since I could eat almost anything and not gain weight. I always managed to stay thin. However, when I saw this book in Borders yesterday in the cooking/diet section I put back a cookbook I was going to get so that I could get this book instead. I've buzzed through many chapters so far. It's very interesting so far. It's like once I started reading it I just didn't want to set it down.
The author is right, there isn't a lot out there for guys that are over weight. I think any guy that is over weight will really enjoy reading this book. My husband saw this book and as soon as I finish reading it he'd like to read it. I'm learning a lot about what it's like to struggle with weight gain in our society. I'm learning so much and it's somewhat theraputic for me to read this book as well. I'd recommend it to you if you know "Anyone" that's overweight. The details of this mans life that he shares in this book are very personal things that he's taken a big risk to share with others in hope of helping them. I feel more understanding of my husbands struggle with weight already.
The author describes being overweight and the struggle as a "fat disease". Something that can't be cured but like any other chronic disease can be controlled. I have much more to read. I will return once I've finished the book to further review it. My husband will be adding his review here also once he reads the book. It really is a great read.

Ives travels through India, Nepal, and Southeast Asia in search of the rapidly disappearing tiger. Along the way, his encounters with the human friends and enemies of the tiger are reported with a remarkable attentiveness to the greatest nobility and basest selfishness of our own species. A gripping ecological journey. Highly Recommended.
Customer Reviews:
Of Tigers and Men.......2005-04-07
The profoundly moving experience of reading this book was one of a sustained and deeply personal conversation with a splendid human being who draws you ever more deeply into the tragic reality of the tiger's fate today. Written by a gifted naturalist in a strong and vividly expressive prose, it is no less than a powerful cri de coeur forewarning us of the exhaustion of natural habitat and the extinction of a magnificent animal in the few decades to come. I warmly, indeed urgently, recommend this book to everyone.
Of Tigers and Men--a metaphor for our times.......2004-11-21
Ives book, "Of Tigers and Men" is more than just a recounting of his travels, the people he meets and the whole question of nature, harmony and animal reservations/presevers. Ives gets to the very heart of what is happening in today's world where humanity, moral values clashes with immediacy. He elevates the importance of interaction with nature and ourselves in a way that forces each reader to come to terms with our own sense of what is right. I had the opportunity to meet Richard Ives in Paris. His sensitivity to issues, far beyond just the plight of the tigers, was extremely evident. This is a must read for all ages and NOW. Louise Menlo, Ph.D.
Brilliant book.......2004-10-18
This is a superb book on a subject of vital importance - the disappearance of one of the world's great mammal species. Highly recommended to anyone concerned about the future of our planet, who enjoys a splendidly written, page-turning read. I could not put it down!
A crashing bore.......2001-04-24
This has to be the most boring book ever written on the subject. It was so banal that I gave up reading it after 20-30 pages. The rest was read to me in chunks by a friend on a long drive back from Corbett Tiger Reserve. It confirmed I had made a lousy choice in buying it (the hard cover edition, no less, I kick myself), and a good one in giving up reading it.
Find this book wherever you can and read it........2000-04-28
This book currently is out of print, which is troubling. First of all, its disapperance bodes ill for tiger, who certainly could have no more eloquent defender than Richard Ives. This is a book that, if read, could inspire people to work for the preservation of tiger. But while it is impossible to overestimate the book's value as a call to arms, it also is the story of a man who has chosen an improbable and difficult life and pursued it with admirable commitment. The book has been an inspiration for me since I found it in a shop in Paris on my way home from a two-and-a-half stint in the Peace Corps. If Richard Ives proves to be a Cassandra, his wise words on tiger and men ignored by everyone, then we are much the worse for it.
