Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

What can I say. This book is perfect. Well, almost. Lions are and always have been my favorite animal in the world, with tigers very close to a tie. This book is filled with terrific and fun info on the golden king of beasts(not king of the jungle, it lives on the African plains, DUH!)and the photos are out of this world. In fact, you might even say that the lions in the pictures are the most buff and beautiful felines you've ever seen. Any lion lover needs this book immediately, it gives lions full respect and glory, nuff said! Buy it when you get the chance!

2 out of 5 stars Manatees are NOT Pinnipeds!.......2001-07-04

From the title, it appears that this book is supposed to be strictly about animals of the order "Pinnipedia," that is, animals that are flipper-footed. This order includes the true seals, sea lions, and walruses. The book starts off well enough with beautiful photographs and good descriptive text, but on page 63, Cleave inexplicably groups walruses and manatees together as if manatees also belong to this order. Manatees, while bearing perhaps a slight resemblance to walruses, are of the order "Sirenia" (manatees and dugongs) which are actually more closely related to elephants than to any marine mammal. Furthermore, while pinnipeds are piscivorous (fish-eating) and can spend part of their lives out of the water (i.e., on land or ice), manatees are herbivores and totally aquatic. The author does not point out these distinctions and thus this chapter is very misleading. Hopefully this will be remedied in any further printing of this book; in the meantime, anyone using this book as a reference should keep this in mind (indeed much more authoritative sources should be used instead such as Marianne Riedman's book "The Pinnipeds: Seals, Sea Lions, and Walruses" or "Seals of the World" by Judith King).

    Book Description

Frommer's latest book takes us to the birthplace of America's most beloved sport. Starting from baseball's humble beginnings, Frommer vividly introduces the reader to the trailblazing personalities that shaped baseball's history. From the first games in Madison, New York to the rise of the National League, Frommer vividly recreates the energy of this early time. Frommer's expertise lends itself to tell the magical story of baseball's history and insight into an era that is not to be forgotten.

    Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars superficial and shoddy.......2006-06-13

The past two decades have good for the study of early baseball. There has been outstanding historical work by both professional and amateur historians: John Thorn, Melvin Adelman, Warren Goldstein, Peter Morris, and David Block, to name just a few. We now know far more about who was doing what, and why, than we dod formerly.

This would be an ideal time for a historian experienced in writing popular works to collect recent research in a single book for the general reader. What a pity it is that Harvey Frommer didn't do this. Indeed, he seems completely uninterested in serious history and is content to repackage the same old myths and half-truths and random collections of factoids.

There are innumerable problems to be found in this book, but two examples will serve as illustration:

Frommer writes that "Conscious control of the style, the quality, and the substance of the game were always the primary concerns of the club owners. There was constant tinkering with rules. The owners--who preferred to be called 'magnates'--overreached and overreacted. Bickering, almost for the sake of bickering, it seemed, became a cornerstone of organized baseball. Changes in rules, the disbursement of gate receipts, selection and behavior of umpires, player salaries and behavior, franchise solvency and insolvency--all of these, and more, frequently formed the subject matter of acrimonious meetings and encounters among the magnates. The most positive changes in the game were in the rules enacted that moved baseball closer in look and tone to the 20th century."

This is a very peculiar paragraph. The first sentence, inasmuch as it is true, is true today. Worse, it is banal. (But surely the primary concern of club owners was maximizing profits, as is true today.)

Next, the owners' (Oops! "magnates": and what is the basis for the claim that they prefered that word? There are, of course, no footnotes.) concerns are dismissed as "bickering". Yet the list of things they bickered about actually seem pretty reasonable. Why would we expect a league *not* be be concerned about franchise solvency or player salaries? And yes, the rules evolved over the years. But they weren't changed randomly, for no reason. Rules are changed to try to fix some problem with the old rules or to introduce some prospective improvement. Better books have examined the evolution of the rules and why the various changes were made. This book includes them among the bickering, like the children squabbling in the play room while the adults are trying to hold a conversation.

The exception is any rule change that makes the game more like it is today. This is as pure an example as we could ask for of Whiggish history: the belief that history is the progression from cave men grunting at one other to the perfection that is the present day. Any change is examined: if it makes things more like today it is Good, if it makes things less like today it is Bad. We need not ask why it was made either way. This approach to history serves if your goal is mindless triumphalism. If you are trying to understand what people did and why, it isn't so good.

This paragraph isn't an examination of history. It is an excuse for not examining history.

The second example is Appendix G: "National Association of Base Ball Players Champions". The problem is that there was no such thing. The NABBP didn't have a championship. In the absence of an official championship an unofficial, makeshift system arose. The system was disfunctional, as shown in 1869 when the Red Stockings of Cincinnati were obviously the best team in the country, yet were not the champions.

This is not mere nitpicking over trivia. The professional National Association of 1871 to 1875 was founded in large part to provide a more rationalized championship, and the flaws in that organization led in turn to the formation of the National League in 1876. The championship system, or its absence, was a driving force in the early organizations. (The lack of a championship system in the NABBP is not, by the way, one of those recent discoveries I mentioned above. It has been known all along to anyone who cared to pay attention.) This is just the sort of thing we need to take into account if we are to make sense of what people were doing--to make more of history than a string of unconnected events.

Frommer is an academic at a respected institute of higher learning. Presumably, he knows what good histories look like. If I seem harsh in my criticism, it is because he produces superficial and shoddy work by choice.

I wish that I had this book to read before I started my freshwater tank. It is amazing how difficult it is to find good and reliable source of information. This book covers just about everything. Detail is great - it is very comprehensive about the diseases and treatments, and what's even more important - Causes. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in keeping their fish healthy and stress-free.

      4 out of 5 stars Great reference.......2001-10-12

This little book is actually a gem. It covers a variety of fish illnesses with an introduction that addresses standard care. Unfortunately, some of the medications that it recommends are difficult to relate to the American market, as it was written in the UK. That, and perhaps the lack of more photographs, are the only two complaints that I have. Overall, I recommend this book for the beginner and the professional!

4 out of 5 stars Great book to have in your collection!.......2001-08-10

One of the best books I purchased. Although I really hate to use it (means fish are sick) it is very informative. In fact, I had more information than my local pet store.

Good luck finding some of the cures.... some can be very difficult. Overall great reading!

      5 out of 5 stars A Helpful Book!.......2000-07-22

This book should be required reading for anyone setting up an aquarium for the first time because the author carefully explains how to create the type of environment that will keep your fish healthy.

I needed the book to determine the cause of sickness that was killing my fish. I was able to determine the cause, disease, and solution to my problem in twenty minutes. I learned more about fish and aquariums from this book in one reading than I had picked up from friends and fish store owners in three years.

I highly recommend this book to anyone with an aquarium problem.

The American Horticultural Society's Plant Propagation is one of those stuck-on-a-desert-island books. All the information you could ever possibly want in order to propagate virtually any plant or tree or cactus or succulent that might be growing on said desert island is to be found somewhere between the covers of this marvelous, informative book. If you're tired of buying many pots of expensive perennials, tuck a copy of Plant Propagation under your arm and buy one good specimen. From that specimen, following the simple directions, make many plants. It's the kind of skill that all grandmothers of a more distant generation seemed to have.

Still mixed up about hypogeal and epigeal germination? Can't tell a bulbil from a cormel? The very first section covers all the basics of plant biology as well as the history and basic how-to of propagation. The body of the book is divided into "Garden Trees," "Shrubs and Climbing Plants," "Perennials, Annuals and Biennials," "Cacti and Other Succulents," "Bulbous Plants," and "Vegetables." Each section begins with an overview of appropriate propagation techniques: the many styles of grafting, seed saving, taking cuttings, and bulb and root division. Individual plants within each section are addressed alphabetically. With Plant Propagation in hand, you can hybridize your own rose and name it after yourself. The text is written to an intelligent, somewhat experienced gardening reader, and the lush illustrations are accurate and effective. --Schuyler Ingle

        5 out of 5 stars Plant Propagation.......2007-09-29

An excellent resource for propagating just about any plant using a variety of techniques depending on the time of year and the purpose. While it took me a while to figure out where to find the guide for plants not featured in full page explanations, once I did I was ready to take on new projects. A great book for growing new plants for the garden and for friends.

This book is amazing but I strongly recommend that you buy Alan Toogood's "Plant Propagation" from a different publisher. The National Home and Gardening Club published this exact same book (with a different hardback cover) the same year the AHSociety published the above book. This book is currently selling on Amazon for just under $5 and is a much better buy.

Note: Amazon does not have a photo for Toogood's other book and most people probably overlook that and purchase the above text.

From preliminary design to everyday maintenance, the American Horticultural Society Gardening Manual covers every gardening topic under the sun. An equal mix of inspirational ideas and practical suggestions makes this a book to read in every season, whether your garden is sleeping under feet of snow or everything is ripe for picking. Each page is covered with the clear, close-up photographs and simple explanations that the Dorling Kindersley publishing company made it's name with, and novice and expert alike will find this style lovely to look at and deeply practical.

You'll find plenty of information on large projects like installing lighting, sprinklers, raised beds, and paved walkways, and ways of incorporating these installations slowly into your garden space. Ideas for spaces and climates of all kinds are included, from water gardens and brick barbecues to flowing natural spaces and practical vegetable gardens. There are fewer plant lists than there are technique descriptions, but the chapter "What Looks Good When" is helpful, and specialized areas include short lists of appropriate trees, water plants, or bulbs to achieve a particular effect. The section of "What to Do When" is especially helpful for new gardeners, as it outlines all those basic steps in proper maintenance, and will save novices (and their plants) the trauma of pruning or transplanting in the wrong season. The section on plant and insect pest management covers both chemical and nonchemical methods, and the authors leave it up to readers to choose their methods. Whether your goal is a smooth stretch of lawn or an intricate herbal knot garden, this gardening manual will get you well on your way to horticultural bliss. --Jill Lightner

5 out of 5 stars Best Gardening Manual Period.......2006-01-03

Offers all sorts of advice on landscaping, with color pictures, how-to information. Advice not only on flowers, but trees, shrubs etc. Also offers help on hard-scapes. The most exaustive all-in-one book I've read.

5 out of 5 stars So THAT's how you do it!.......2002-07-02

Here is a book that covers every potential garden project you can think of - and shows them all to you for comparison. Not a typical garden book - information on specific plants and growing instructions are not the main themes here - there are step-by-step plans and project guides for countless garden improvements including building an arbor, creating focal points, planting fruit crops and caring for your water garden, to name a very few. By far the best part of this book is a section titled "What Looks Good When" that helps you plan a true 4-season garden. Subtitles include "Good Year Round" "Long Flowering Season" "Spring" all the way through "Autumn to Winter". How long have you waited for this?! Obviously not a comprehensive list but illustrated with color photos of the plants, it will inspire you to "fix" your two or three season garden and make it a dream all year round. The "What to Do When" section is a fabulous to-do check list that is wonderfully organized by season to help you get all of your tasks done in a timely fashion. The American Horticultural Society has done a bang-up job of giving gardeners some of the best resources in years and done so with beautiful photos, great information and wonderful ideas.

        5 out of 5 stars Amazing~!.......2001-01-13

This book offers a truly vast and amazing amount of information. There are beautiful color pictures or drawings on just about every page. It shows how to do so many things, including pruning, planting trees, etc. It also shows diseased plant samples, types of mulch, lawn alternatives, etc. There is a detailed guide for what garden tasks to perform each season. There is also a guide for plants according to when they bloom so that you can plan for a long blooming season in your garden. A very useful how-to guide for setting up and maintaining a garden, even for a person who doesn't have a green thumb.

Full of solid, practical advice and plenty of how-to pictures, Walls and Fences is an ideal title for those looking to create all kinds of structures to separate different areas of your garden. Materials include casual railroad ties and reclaimed wood, as well as more formal bricks, tiles, and mosaics.

Designed to be a complete do-it-yourself guide, don't let the small format of this book fool you--it's absolutely jam-packed with ideas for all styles of gardens, and as always, publisher Dorling Kindersley manages to take fairly complicated projects and reduce them to a manageable size that even the home improvement novice can handle. Practical considerations are dealt with firmly--no skipping such detail work like weatherproofing or proper post-hole digging.

The aim of this book is to get you professional-quality results, and if you follow directions carefully, you'll get the job done beautifully. Inspirational ideas are plentiful--the garden photographs are lush and detailed, and provide all kinds of unusual notions for creating a truly unique gardening space. Whether you're looking to add an old-fashioned picket fence or sturdy brick retaining walls, you'll find options for all your projects that will set your plants off beautifully with striking combinations of textures and materials. --Jill Lightner

This new publication tackles the history of racism, its collective roots and the psychological oppression which has been systematically internalized within an entire people. The book brings to light the history of the African American struggle and the parallel undaunted climb of an American ideology forever daring to beckon equality for all men. The book boldly challenges a people to erase ALL stereotypes of inferiority and gain self-reliance and self-responsibility within the structure of an American society which is created for individuals who are able to overcome adversity, choose to find their purpose and ultimately dare to succeed. I find this book to be neither Right wing or Left wing, its aim is rather to continue where the CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT left off and to elaborate upon the truest meaning of the final and greatest AMERICAN DREAM.

I have not read a book lately that reminded me of our common human purpose as this Survival Series title by Dr. Sam Chekwas. I recommend it to all and I am sure that you will be inspired.

My wishes for every blackman has come true. Read #32 and you will solve the problems of inner city and race for that matter in America. I came by Dr Chekwas book in a library and since then has made it part of my dailing reading. The topics that he writes about remind me of the problems of our country and the reason why we are all left outside the American Dream. Please do yourself a favor and read this book.
