            Book Description

Nine years ago, a hit-and-run driver killed Casey's mother. Casey swears revenge if she ever finds out the identity of the driver. Complicating her feelings, every year on the anniversary of her mother's death, Casey receives an anonymous envelope full of money. Is it blood money—from her mother's killer?

Casey, who shares her mother's passion for basketball, is busy with practice and her new team. Still, she finds time to spend with her beloved neighbor, Megan, who helped care for her when she was younger, and with Megan's daughter Dulcie. When it looks like Megan's computer might contain a clue to the identity of her mother's killer, Casey feels confused and betrayed.

            5 out of 5 stars Multi-level sports novel.......2006-06-03

I love this strong girl jock character and her bewildering mystery -- who is sending those envelopes of money every year on the anniversary of her mother's tragic death? The action keeps you turning the pages and the characters stick with you long after you finish the book. This was a hit with my basketball playing nieces.

5 out of 5 stars A moving story of discovery and revenge.......2005-07-06

Casey is driven to succeed: not only on her new basketball team, but to find the hit-and-run driver who killed her mother nine years ago and changed their lives forever. Every year on the anniversary of her mother's death, someone sends Casey a valuable gift: can the perp be someone Casey loves? A moving story of discovery and revenge.

I found this book very usefull for my graduate project. It covered several things I needed I know, and was not exceedingly difficult to read like many scientific journals. If you need any information on agression, especially in commensal rodents, this book it the way to go. Includes differernt types of agression including intermale, lactating female, and close quarters.

My question about the yellow fever epidemic in Memphis 1878 led me to Bonner's article on that topic. Fascinating stuff. Bonner wrote about many things, and this book has a thorough index. That makes it a good primary source. People in American Lit and American Studies: have your library order this book!

                      Book Description

A perennial favorite for children and parents, this is the story of Prince Siddhartha and how he became Buddha, the Awakened One, told in lyrical prose. Beautiful full-color illustrations depict each major life event in Siddhartha's development. His message of nonviolence, loving-kindness, and unselfishness is vitally necessary for the children of today and tomorrow.

                      5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Story.......2007-01-20

I purchased this to read to my 8 year old son. It proved to be intriguing and captivating. I would read a few chapters a night, and he wouldn't want me to stop reading. Each night, he'd make sure that I was going to read this book.

The pictures are beautiful, and illustrate the story well. The story is very well written, and is clear enough for a young child to understand. It provokes thoughtful questions and observations from the young mind. What a fantastic way to expose children to Buddhism, and its roots and story. Even though Prince Siddhartha lived several hundred years before Christ, the lessons and teachings are near identical.

If you are looking for a Christ-like story without the dogma and requisite belief in God, this fits the bill perfectly. I found it equally as entertaining as my son did. You will not be disappointed.

I bought this to read the story of Siddartha to my seven year old daughter. The text and the pictures have been wonderful, understandable, and manageable, and she has been captivated. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to teach their children in a simple, beautiful and compelling way about the life of Buddha.

This book is perfectly written for young children. My 4 and 6 year old kids were at the edge of their seats as we read chapter by chapter. As a family we greatly enjoyed reading the story of Prince Siddharta.

5 out of 5 stars A classic in its own right!.......2005-08-14

Beautiful illustrations compliment this eloquently told timeless tale! I bought it for myself years ago and just purchased it as a gift for a 10 year old girl who loved it so much, she's read it four times already since getting it just a few weeks ago!!! Regardless of your religious beliefs, it's a universal story of the search for "what is" and the molding of character in an individual that takes place as they sort through the varying perspectives presented to them through the ever changing seasons of life, and discovering their own balance in the equation of being.

In general, this is about (part of) Chosin operation. The author was the commander of H&R company of 1st Battalion, 1st Marine during Chosin operation. He gave a good account about the hardship the marines endured during the operation. Mind that his battalion was assigned the task of taking Hill 1081 and wrestled the control of Funchilin Pass out from superior Chinese Communist Part (CCP) forces. Unfortunately, he was in such a position that he spent most of his time staying very close to battalion HQ and could not provide more details about the fighting. (Interesting readers should look up S.L.A. Marshall's "Battle at Best". There is a chapter dedicated to the battle of Funchilin Pass.) But, it is still a good book with the first hand account of the Chosin. Of course, nobody who are interesting in Korea War would want to miss the two very valuable reports about CCP troops' attack patterns, written by S.L.A. Marshall himself, attached at the end of the book.

                            Book Description

The first Madam President will be sworn in sooner than most people think. But the gender gap in politics is still shockingly broad, say two of America's most readable political commentators in this "timely look at the nation's sputtering efforts to envision a woman in America's top job."(The Boston Globe).
Charting the transformation of women's power in American politics from the first female presidential candidate (Victoria Woodhull in 1872) to the shattered presidential hopes of Shirley Chisholm and Elizabeth Dole, Madam President presents tales of passion, determination, set-backs, and triumph from nearly all national women politicians and most leading state politicians "in the pipeline." With insight garnered from years on the Washington political scene and candid interviews with leading politicians like Christine Todd Whitman and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Clift and Brazaitis explain why the barriers to women are still formidable: There are only 3 female governors (one of the best routes to the White House) and at the current rate it will take 250 years before there are as many women Senators and Representatives as men.
A forward-looking, savvy analysis of women in politics, Madam President gives the first inside look at how America's female politicians got there, stayed there, and what it will take for them to make it to the presidency.

                              Book Description

For a brief time in the 1990s, the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve in southern Mexico was heralded as a vital example of melding local management, forest conservation, and economic development. Haenn now describes the rise and fall of this conservation program to examine conservation at the intersection of national-international agendas and local political-economic interests, considering conservation's encounter with people's everyday lives--and how those experiences affect environmental management strategies.
