Maximize the Moment is a biblically-based self-help book by T.D. Jakes, a leading African-American pastor, motivational speaker, and the author of The Lady, Her Lover, and Her Lord. Jakes begins the book with a powerful reminder of the frailty of life, the reason that "we should maximize and prioritize our time and esteem it as precious." In a straightforward, humble style, Jakes teaches readers to reach their God-given potential in family, work, and spiritual life. His advice, in short, is to think of every moment as an opportunity for decision, and then to make decisions that are always faithful and constructive. The passages advocating freedom from fear-filled and destructive relationships are especially powerful, and well-crafted to be useful for both men and women. Maximize the Moment also has a wealth of sayings that stick in the brain without the cloying sentiment that often colors self-help books. "The wisest thing we can do," Jakes writes, "is minimize the liabilities, plan for the unexpected, enjoy the ecstasies, endure the disappointments, and then face the inevitable."
Book Description
Using ageless biblical principles, Bishop T.D. Jakes teaches that every moment of every day, God provides all we need to achieve success. In Maximize the Moment, he explains how to release ourselves from damaging relationships and debilitating fears, how to face and conquer obstacles that may stand in our path to success, and how to move beyond our painful pasts.
"His stories are thought provoking, his guidelines are easy to follow and his questions allow the reader to align the course of his or her life to the biblical precepts presented in the book." (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)

Inspiring!.......2006-04-01
I read this book cover to cover---my first self-help book where i actually read tyhe whole thing! i reccommend that when reading this book, to highlight every statement that touches you, stands out to you, and inspires you. After finishing the book, i went back and wrote down everything that i had highlighted and placed the words in a journal so that i can refer to td jakes' words over and over again! this book is a must read. you will enjoy it, pick it up!
Big man, big heart, big message.......2005-08-05
The fact T. D. Jakes is a successful businessman, as well as a successful evangelist and pastor, makes "Maximize the Moment" stand apart from many other books about Christian living. It's a double header kind of book, worth the time because of the Christian message and equally worth the time for the success-in-business-and-life message. Give it as a gift to anybody because there's a bucketful of good information in these pages for all of life.
Outstanding!.......2004-10-10
I have always admired this man, T.D. Jakes. I feel his teaching is superb and his insights of the Word of God excellent. In this book, I was not disappointed in the knowledge he shared.
In this work, he teaches how to overcome damaging effects from relationships, fears and many other obstacles that life has put in our path. He teaches the Biblical principles and how we can turn around hurtful life experiences and use them to our advantage. I found the information he shares very useful and informative, written in a clear, easy to understand manner.
This is a great book that you will turn to time and time again for encouragement and wisdom. Recommended!

From the beginning, Americans have loved and hated their presidents, and memorialized them both for their achievements and their foibles. In this collection of essays, written by members of the prestigious Society of American Historians, we're gifted with a lively interpretive history of the 41 presidents to date with an emphasis on their dominant themes and achievements as influenced by their personalities and ideologies.
With the focus on presidential style, Joseph J. Ellis examines the ironies in Thomas Jefferson's ideals and actions, as well as his inveterate shyness (imagine a modern-day president who only spoke at his inauguration and presented all legislative proposals in writing). Robert Dallek discusses Lyndon B. Johnson's contradictions as evidenced in his significant domestic achievements and the terrible failure of the Vietnam War. And in the pieces on also-rans like Grant and Coolidge and the disgraced such as Nixon, these historians often use the benefit of hindsight and scholarship to focus on the more redeeming features of each man. The most recent president covered does not get off so lightly, however, as Evan Thomas devotes an inordinate amount of space to Bill Clinton's philandering and slams him with such adjectives as "calculating, shrewd and slovenly."
The book is packed with photographs, illustrations, inaugural addresses, and memorable quotes ("When Theodore attends a wedding, he wants to be the bride, and when he attends a funeral, he wants to be the corpse"). A light sense of humor is even displayed, as in a photograph of William Howard Taft's mammoth bathtub, specially built after the 355-pound man got stuck in an ordinary tub, and the story of the Kennedy-Nixon campaign captured in two campaign photos--one of a sexy, bare-chested JFK in his PT-109 and the other of a stiff Nixon in his Navy dress blues. It's also a treasure trove of presidential trivia--which presidents proposed to their wives on the first date? Who were the only three vice presidents to be successfully promoted by election? This is a terrific reference book--an informative, revealing, and fun way to learn about America's chosen few. --Lesley Reed
Book Description
America's most respected historians offer thoughtful, authoritative profiles of the nation's forty-one chief executives.
Every generation of historians reviews and revises the work of its predecessors. With this book, the best historical writers of today's generation undertake such a task. Displaying wit and narrative flair, their elegant essays offer a fresh perspective on the most fascinating group of Americans: the American presidents. Who better to write a new assessment of the presidents than the most respected (and best-selling) historians of our time? In To the Best of My Ability: The American Presidents, members of the prestigious Society of American Historians deliver engaging, thoughtful analyses of the forty-one men who have led this country- some, of course, more successfully than others. In this copiously illustrated volume, edited by Pulitzer Prize-winner James M. McPherson, you will learn from Gordon S. Wood how George Washington, an extraordinary man, made it possible for ordinary men to govern; from Allen Weinstein how Theodore Roosevelt tested and extended the limits of the presidency; from Tom Wicker how Richard Nixon's hatreds and insecurities gripped him ever more tightly as he achieved his long-sought goal of power; and from Evan Thomas how much Bill Clinton cares about his place in the new presidential pecking order.

A PRESIDENTIAL TREASURE TROVE.......2005-03-20
I absolutely adored this book. I have long been fascinated by the nature and character of the men who held the office of President. Each of the mini-biographies sheds new light on the manner in which each of our Presidents approached and executed the powers of the Presidency. Fascinating pieces of Presidential trivia can also be found in this marvelous work. I loved it!
Hello,Mr.President!.......2005-03-07
This is just the kind of book I've been looking for on the American Presidents.I do a lot of reading about American Politics and History and end up chasing through books looking for information about the President at the time .Sometimes I find what I am looking for but not always. The people who put this book together have done a superlative job of creating a reference book that covers all the same things about each of the Presidents. It doesn't take long to get to know what you can expect to find.Important dates, family members, famous statements, major events during their terms ,pictures, campaigns,Inaugural Addresses, election statistics, running mates, opponents, and so forth.I must stress, they didn't just include what they had on hand to fill the space;they dug up all the same things for each President. When you want to know something, you won't be wondering if it will be there;you'll be confident you'll find it.
Another thing I found quite interesting was that each President's signature was included with their picture.Also.the first picture was of the time when in office.I happen to have a book signed by President Truman, while in office. It was fun to compare it with the one in this book.It is also interesting to compare the various signatures. For,instance, who had the best penmanship? In my opinion,James Buchanan wins hands down.I particularly admire Andrew Johnson's and Andrew Jackson's,which were quite similar. For the most intricate, that has to go to James Polk.
What a great cast of characters ,have come forward to lead America;and no two even remotely alike.
A wonderful reference source, and I know I'll turn to it often.
Short, Concise, Complete.......2005-02-23
Reaching back for more than two hundred years, through forty three men, the Presidency of the United States has been held by a wide range of people. Some have been brilliant, some less honest than others, but in the end most have been honorable people.
They have been responsible for setting the direction of the country in times of war, depression, and good times.
In this collection of essays a short chapter covers each of the forty three men. Each written by an authority on that particular era, on that particular man. They cover:
the major events that occurred during each president's term in office,
election results for each cycle by popular and electoral votes,
complete text of every inaugural address,
memorable quotes illustrating the president's image while in office,
outstanding accomplishments and contributions of unforgettable first ladies.
The book formed the basis of the series of shows created for the History channel. It's the best short summary I've ever read.
Interesting, but Slanted.......2005-01-21
Lot of good information and a quick history, but the authors seemingly never met a government regulation or expansion that they didn't approve of. They provide an interesting service in showing that the political leaders, including the presidents, have generally been largely incompetent and hypocritical, with little understanding or regard for the principles of the Constitution.
Even A Brief History Shows Warts .......2004-10-03
If you are looking for a nice, easy to read and somewhat flashy overview book on all the American Presidents then this book should fit the bill. The book provides the reader with a brief overview of each of the Presidents. The overview includes details of their life's before they took office and an overview of their administrations. There are a number of photos in each section and side of the page inserts that hold additional interesting facts. The book ends with an overview of each election with a run down of what took place in the campaigns and the final vote count. Within this section are a number of additional pictures of campaign paraphernalia that I really enjoyed. There is also the inaugural address for each of the Presidents, and if you can get through all of them you have more stamina then I did. Some of these men were on the long winded side and the advent of professional speech writers has helped the readability of Presidential speeches.
Each chapter is written by a different American historian who, judging by the biographies in the back of the book, are all well thought off, many the average reader will know by name. I found it interesting that the book takes a no holds barred approach in its reporting. The authors are not afraid to call out Presidents that were down right bad and except for a few (Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, TR, FDR and Truman) the authors are a bit harsh. Then again we expect a great deal from our Presidents so maybe a tough look is needed for a historical overview. Overall I enjoyed the book for what it was, a brief history of each of the Presidents. Other then providing the basic facts the best this book will do is direct you to the men you are most interested in for further reading. I did have a few complaints, the authors did not provide a bibliography or even a suggested reading list at the end of the book and it would have been nice if they could have gathered in a table the complete list for an easy look at the trends that have taken place.

Censored 2002/03 highlights the year's 25 most underreported news stories, alerting readers to the deficiencies of corporate media. Familiar sections like "Junk Food News" remain, but this year's edition takes a more interactive role in exposing censored stories and includes a full resource guide and updates on independent journalism to help readers take part in the growing media and democracy movement. This series has twice won the Firecracker Alternative Book Award. "Required reading for broadcasters, journalists, and well-informed citizens." Los Angeles Times
Customer Reviews:
Project Censored Gets Back on Track.......2003-01-31
As a longtime follower of the annual Project Censored guides, I was distressed by the last few editions, which were becoming marred by whiny conspiracy theories and a bleeding-heart editorial style (especially the 2001 edition). This latest 2002/03 edition gets back on track with a newly hard-hitting stance on the increasing weaknesses of the mainstream media. Given the partial revival of seriousness in the media world after 9-11, Project Censored has in turn hardened its stance on the new realities in the media and why certain types of stories continue to be censored. As usual, the problem is profit-driven media conglomerates that focus on lowest-common-denominator fluff to appease advertisers; and empty patriotism that actually becomes an unquestioning acceptance of simplistic government dogma, especially concerning the causes and effects of 9-11.
The control of most of the US media by a shrinking number of huge multinational corporations continues to be a very serious problem. This can be seen in this years preponderance of censored stories that involve corporate wrongdoing and corruption. You dont get these stories in the mainstream media because they will damage the profitability for shareholders in those controlling corporations. Another dangerously recurring theme this year is the harsh effects of globalization on sovereign nations and disadvantaged peoples, and the medias pathological disdain for globalizations opponents. There is mounting evidence that nobody benefits from globalization, NAFTA, or the WTO but corporations and their largest shareholders. But in the corporate media you wont hear this. Thats why the Project Censored analysis of these trends is so important.
This edition delivers strong treatments of these dire trends in the corporate-controlled media and offers in-depth coverage of these worthy but under-reported stories. There are also several supporting essays by media analysts and watchdogs that are fascinating in their own right. The only glitches in this book are two particular essays that detract from the analytical nature of the rest of the book and drift into self-serving opinions. These are "Power Sources" by Ina Howard, a mind-numbing and predictable parade of statistics with few big-picture conclusions; and "Truth About Afghan Casualties..." by Marc W. Herold, which contains useful information but an annoying amount of self-aggrandizement and a debunking of the author's opponents that seems like more of a personal crusade than a quest for the truth. Fortunately, overall this edition of the great Project Censored series achieves its goals in bringing tragically hidden and extremely important stories the attention they deserve.
All I know is that I didn't know........2003-01-22
The battle to free the press is still being waged on the fringes, but progress is being made. More and more people are losing faith in their corporate news sources, and there is good reason. People know that there is more than they are being told. That things are not merely black and white, good vs. evil. And more and more people are starting to view media reform as a viable subject for political debate. But you won't hear about it in the mainstream media. Luckily, people like Project Censored and Seven Stories Press are doing an excellent job of both getting the news out there and offering critique of the corporate news conglomerates. Censored 2003 offers an excellent introduction by Robert McChesney on the current state of the media in the U.S., the top 25 "Censored" stories and runners up from the late 2001 and 2002 (Censored in that they did not receive nearly the coverage the issues warrant in importance.) Also included is Mark Crispin Miller's diagram of the "Big Ten", the ten leading media conglomerates listing all of their media holdings and earnings... looking this over, you start to feel how enormous and just plain not right their power is. Also included is an essay on the New York School Systems censored standardized literature and reading comprehension tests, a detailed account of how the U.S. military works for big oil (the stuff of conspiracy theories one may think, but reading the hard facts and evidence will make you think again) and some excellent cartoons from the famed Tom Tomorrow. All this and more, and without commercial interruption. If you wanna know what you didn't know in the past year, pick this up.
A great book!.......2002-12-10
A *great* book, filled with many stories the main stream US media chose not to cover, or to under-cover, undoubtedly because of their corporate interests. It's truly amazing what is hidden from the American people.
Also, worth at least the price of the book itself, the last 65 pages are listings of additional resources ... organizations, publications, web sites ... hundreds of places to find additional independent (ie- not corporate sponsored) views on the world.
BTW, contrary to the previous review, I contacted Seven Stories press, and they informed me that this book at amazon and the book available at their site are identical... amazon is apparently just a little slow to update their description/cover photo.
Great Book....But The Censored Book is Censored!!.......2002-11-12
Update: 1-2-02 This book now has the same cover and nearly the same number of pages as the edition directly from the publisher: Seven Stories Press, so I do not know if it is censored any longer. The cover is also now the same. I wrote the review below when I had the previous amazon.com version and the one directly from Seven stories Press and they were not the same.
This book reviews many of the most important stories censored from out Corporate$$$$ Media Cartel Propaganda Press. If you are reading this you undoubtedly know that the fast fading reputation of the press as free is FICTION. It is pro-corporate, anti-worker, anti-middle class and anti-poor tripe. There is a small problem with this "version" of the Censored 2003 book however. It is censored. It leaves out the 20 page article on the 1001 Problems of the 9/11 Fable as I term it. Major problems with America's 9/11 Reichstag. I suggest that you buy the uncensored version (different cover even and different number of pages) directly from Seven Stories Press. Do a search for them on the Internet. I hope that amazon.com will not censor this review as I am trying to help Americans get the truth or they will leave my review until they obtain the uncensored version. Pretty sad state of affairs when the ruling Junta censors a "Censored" book. Sick state of affairs acutally. I also recommend that you read up on Vote Fraud. The chickens are not voting for Colonel Sanders despite what the Corrupted Press tells you. Check out ...the book Censored 2001 for vote fraud.
United we stand against corporate owned government= fascism!!!

Book Description
At a time when the world is taking more interest than ever in the fate of North America's grizzly bear population, two avid naturalists take us inside one of the grizzlies' most inspiring strongholds. Fortress of the Grizzlies delivers a unique perspective based on Dan and Wendy's years of respectful interaction with a community of grizzlies, challenging our ideas about this powerful, but also vulnerable creature.
Fortress of the Grizzlies highlights:
-The story of one family of bears, based on observations recorded over a ten-year period.
-New insights into how to predict and understand grizzly behaviour.
-Descriptions of individual grizzlies in the sanctuary.
-Stunning full-colour photography throughout.
