Book Description
This non-fiction work about the Kennedy assassination refutes all the popular theories on the assassination and makes a convincing case for whom the real perpetrators might have been. It is both shocking and, at the same time, believable. The author implicates Jacqueline Kennedy and Aristotle Onassis. They were two people who had the means, the motive, and the alibi to commit the perfect murder of all time.

possible?.......2006-04-06
the book, though not best in grammer, is still interesting and plausible. nobody wants to believe this because they still see jackie O as some goddess who was wonderful ina almost every way, which is far from true. if you've read the book A woman named Jackie, and how greedy, cold, and calculating she was, you'd be shocked! this woman was no sweetheart, and it may be plausible that she did orchestrate her own husband's death. I still even wonder why some documents she has on her husband's death she still won't open until the year 2067. jackie was no saint. this book may shed a new light on the murder of JFK, and all else if proven true. we won't know that until those files are opened. Jackie was no role model. if you want a good, nurturing example of a first lady, try eleanor roosevelt, barbara bush, or even nancy regan. they are true examples.
One word: Yecch!.......2002-09-16
I've read January Jones' other book on this subject, and again I have to say this is the most offensive thing ever put out. I'm sorry I can't give it a "0" rating.
Examine the evidence for yourself!.......2002-05-22
I get tired of the other reviewers saying they disagree with the book. The fact is, this book is full of facts! If you can't debunk them, then keep your mouth shut!
It's a shame that a tree was cut down for this book!.......2000-08-09
Ugh! What an awful book! It hurt to give it even one star. I guess people will believe anything.
A REAL TREASURE.......2000-08-09
A whirlwind of never before told information about one of the most puzzling crimes of the 20th century. Truely captivating. Wonderful. FOR QUESTIONS OR DISCUSSIONS ABOUT JACKIE ONASSIS, PLEASE E-MAIL ME AT MellissaLD@aol.com. HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU.

Fast Lane to Victory: The Story of Jenny Thompson Jenny Thompson grew up in a working class New England coastal town with a single mom and three older brothers. As her family struggled to make ends meet, Jenny found a bounty of good fortune and success in the swimming pool. The family folklore maintains that Jenny could swim before she could walk. This water baby went on to win eight Olympic Gold medals as one of the fastest female swimmers in the world. Jenny had to deal with some hardships, including wearing a brace for scoliosis and being teased about being so tall and strong. And she did it with her constant positive outlook and rugged determination to succeed. This story lets the young reader know that being competitive is okay for girls and that dreams really do come true.

Great book for young girls.......2007-02-20
Swimming is a sport that attracks so many girls, and this book can help them get a picture of what it means to be a champion. It is an easy read. It reaveals some of the things she struggled with in her life as she grew up. We used this book to write a biography report. The appendix has a list of highlights of Jenny's career, and a history of women's swimming. I also appreciate the "Sports Talk" section that is a spring board for discussing (1) dealing with disappointment, (2)body image, (3) competitive anxiety, (4) benefits of Sports participation for girls, and (5) other general questions about competing in sports.
Disappointing.......2006-10-31
This book is a great idea. Jenny Thompson is a great choice for an inspirational story for young athletes, but the book is sub-par. The artwork is embarrassingly bad, using crude line drawings. Important obstacles are mentioned without fully being explained as to how they impacted Thompson or how she overcame them. Jenny Thompson's is an inspiring story worthy of a better book
Inspiring role model.......2004-02-07
I love this book! It's a great story of how sports can shape your life in a positive way. Swimmers and non-swimmers alike will be inspired by Jenny's story. This great book is now available as an e-book for those of you who can't find a copy of the original printing. You can order here from amazon.com, the isbn is B0001GDOUQ.
How Jenny dealt with the negative peer pressure.......2001-06-09
Fast Lane To Victory is the third in Wish Publishing's outstanding "Anything You Can Do...New Sports Heroes For Girls" series and the story of swim champion Jenny Thompson. Swimming was what Jenny like best, but when her friends at school started to tease her and call her "tomboy" and "Too Tall Thompson", she felt the pressures placed on a lot of young girls to conform to social norms of what was "proper" for girls. Jenny dealt with the negative peer pressure and became so successful as an athlete that she came to be called the "Fastest Swimmer in the World". Also very highly recommended for school and community library collections are the first two volumes in this superbly presented and inspiring sports oriented series for girls: A Drive To Win: The Story Of Nancy Lieberman (40-8, ...) and Sword Of A Champion: The Story Of Sharon Monplaisir (39-4, ...).

Book Description
This discography provides a comprehensive listing of the songs from motion picture musicals, and the singers who performed them on commercially available albums. Covering the period from The Jazz Singer in 1927 to Three Amigos in 1987, and including 666 albums and 6,500 song titles, the book is a companion volume to Lynch's Broadway on Record (Greenwood Press, 1987), arranged in a similar format. While the scope is primarily American, albums of some foreign films that became popular in this country have been included. The entries are listed alphabetically by film title with the name of the company that produced it and the year it was first released. Remakes of musicial films are listed chronologically, and the original label and number are given, as well as information on the most recent reissue. This thoroughly researched reference offers easy access to a wealth of information on the subject of recorded songs from motion picture musicals and assists the user in identifying many little-known facts, such as the names of the title-song singers, names of singers who "dubbed" the voices of the stars, and additional composers and lyricists where there were several contributors to the film's score. Also provided is a complete guide to recording availability and type, and major composer, lyricists, and musical conductor credits are given, with an alphabetical list of cast members who sing on the recording. An exhaustive source for students and scholars of film history, film music, and popular culture, this book will be a valuable addition to all university and public libraries.

Book Description
Advocates of "new musicology" claim that technical methods of music analysis are conservative, elitist, positivist, and emotionally arid. Pieter C. van den Toorn challenges those claims, asking why cultural, sociopolitical, or gender-studies approaches to music should be deemed more democratic or expressive of music's content or impact. Why should music analysis be thought incapable of serving larger aesthetic ends?
Van den Toorn confronts Susan McClary, Leo Treitler, and Joseph Kerman in particular, arguing that hands-on music analysis can penetrate the complexity of music and speak to our experience of it. He criticizes new musicologists for retreating from issues of musical immediacy by focusing on cultural issues. In later chapters van den Toorn defends Schenkerian methods and demonstrates the usefulness of technical analysis in the appreciation of Beethoven, Debussy, Schoenberg, and Stravinsky.

Book Description
Leadership Strategies That Work from the Greatest Leader of All Time.
Best-selling authors Kenneth Blanchard, Bill Hybels, and Phil Hodges offer a unique, compelling, and paradigm-shifting model that effectively interweaves successful leadership methods with character development principles based on the teachings of history's most influential leader, Jesus Christ. Told in the parable format of The One Minute Manager and Raving Fans, Leadership by the Book offers unexpected and exceptional answers to crucial leadership issues today - helping leaders in all walks of life to fulfill their calling and help others do the same.
Is there any common ground between leadership success strategies on one hand, and the Biblical principles regarding character on the other?
Yes! And this new book - from three of America's most successful and compassionate leaders - clearly and creatively explains the answer. With unique value for leaders of all kinds, Leadership by the Book interweaves character development principles with successful leadership methods - using the example and words of Jesus as the catalyst and framework for it all.
The framework for the sound and practical teachings of this unique and powerful book is a story about three acquaintances who each have something vital to learn. One is a businessman who, after years of fabulous success, finally comes face to face with the emptiness in his soul. His struggle becomes critical when a heart attack leaves him hovering near death. This crisis brings together two figures from his past - a teacher of leadership strategies, and a successful pastor. Their renewed interaction leads them all to deeper discoveries of the value of biblical leadership principles.
In Leadership by the Book readers - particularly company presidents, corporate leaders, middle managers, department heads, parents, coaches, community leaders, pastors, lay leaders, and others - will learn the very practical side of Christ's teachings on leadership. And they'll learn that truly effective leadership cannot be divorced from the character issues that Jesus taught.

Perpetuates Stereotypes.......2005-01-31
As a professor of leadership myself, I am struck by how this book perpetuates stereotypes.
The first stereotype is about the role of women. The wives in the book are nothing more than interchangable helpmates who provide nice homes and emotional support. I suspect that during the editing process it was suggested that the women be assigned degrees and "jobettes"...but even so, it is clearly the men who make thing happen and who sit and ponder the Great Ideas for the book's conclusions. The women are supporting characters, and reinforce the stereotype that leadership is a game for men.
A similar stereotype exists about the nature of jobs. In the book it is the business person who lets his job pressures and focus on the bottom line get the better of him. This same scenario has been played out time and time again in discussing the work/life balance to the point of it being a cliche.
In addition, the main characters seem to perpetuate a stereotype of a "dominant culture" in which the world is full of happily married white-collar suburban couples (who I would bet are Caucasian), with husbands who play golf, and who have the cash to buy vacation homes.
When combined with the Christian perspective, one is left to wonder whether Christianity is solely relevant to these stereotypes of people. I would have hoped for broader thinking from authors with such credentials.
weLEAD Book Review from the Editor of leadingtoday.org.......2004-12-22
This is a unique book in both its purpose and style. Blanchard, Hybels and Hodges set out to teach servant-leadership by returning to its religious roots. Leadership by the Book is written in the form of a parable or story. It portrays the interaction of three different leaders: a professor, minister and young business professional. The purpose of the book is to teach management skills and ethics by examining the example of Christianity's founder, Jesus Christ. As the authors state in the introduction, "We believe there is a perfect practitioner and teacher of effective leadership. That person is Jesus of Nazareth, who embodied the heart and methods of a fully committed and effective servant leader."
However, this book is not intended to be either sectarian or a promotional treatise on Christianity and its founder. The authors continue, "In this book we invite students of leadership from all faiths, cultures and experience to take another look at the leadership genius of Jesus." Throughout the text Blanchard, Hybels and Hodges endeavor to cite various examples of Jesus Christ as a source for learning valuable lessons in effective leadership. They also suggest basic strategies for bringing values and vision to any organization.
Many books written on servant leadership are authored by intellectuals who make this essential philosophy difficult to grasp and appreciate. This book is different. Leadership by the Book can be called a primer on servant leadership and is written in an easy to understand linguistic style. Don't let the number of pages fool you. With large print and generous word spacing, it can easily be read in one or two sittings.
Very Slow Story!.......2003-10-06
I was absolutely bored to tears while reading this book. I think that a lot of the suggestions towards better leadership are very well intentioned and are good ideas, but it is very heavy in religion. If you are a strong believer in JC then this book might appeal to you. I was sick of the many religious references by page 30. The story was also poorly written. I found myself having to re-read portions of the book to understand the point. The only thing I will remember from this book is EGO (you'll get it once you've read it).
Another great Blanchard book.......2003-08-03
Leaderhsip By The Book is another in a great string of management books. While many books scratch the surface of management and other delve into the minute details, Blanchard and his co-writers deliver practical, useable ideas in a common-sense manner that will allow the brightest of managers see new insights and the newest of managers see the bigger picture of the challenges ahead of them.
The story is told in parable format, similar to Raving Fans and Gung Ho (two books referred to within LBTB), which allows Blanchard, et al. to tell the story of a hard-charging businessman who had built a solid foundation for his direction and effort and had lost his way getting caught up in the fever of big business and big EGO. I'm confident most managers can identify with some of the mistakes made by Michael, the good guy that gets turned around, has a heart attack and finds his way back. The heart attack is symbolic of what often confronts leaders that allows them to see the wrong choices they make that are casued by EGO or other motivators that are not aligned with the idea espoused in this book called servant leadership.
You have to read this book. I am leading a leadership program at work and this book is the capstone of the program. Buy it and get a copy for all your employees who are in the position of leadership, whether in management positions or line positions.
Let there be leaders.......2003-06-25
This is yet another parable by Ken Blanchard in his characteristic style for driving home powerful messages. This story is around Michael the executive and his friends the minister and the professor. It clearly brings out the pressures experienced by a high-flying executive in his pursuit of success, that soon he loses his links with friends and guidance from the Lord.
Business leaders tend to assume themselves as masters to get things done through lesser mortals to achieve business goals. Their egos start bloating, denying them the true unconditional love bestowed on us by the Lord. EGO is aptly described here as "Edging God out".
The leadership model as described in this book is based on Jesus and, in my opinion has not been discussed in most management books on the topic.
Let there be leaders....who lead as servants of the Lord.
Highly recommended for all men and women who would like to lead in leading.

The most complete single reference on the IJN.......1999-12-26
Warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy, 1869-1945 is the culmination of three German naval historians in ttempting to document every combatant to serve in the Imperial Japanese Navy. This is the most complete book on the IJN available and contains excellent data on all major and minor warships.
A useful reference for the modeler, the only weakness is the size of the illustrations, which are mostly in 1/1200 scale. The original German edition had better line drawings, but few photos. The strength of this English edition is the collection of photos, many not seen outside of Japan until now. I would rate this as a 4 1/2 star effort and definitely superior to the book by Watts on the same subject.
Excellent reference for the IJN.......1998-08-23
An excellent reference. This book contains listings for nearly every IJN ship up to the end of WWII. This book does not have pages of descriptive info concerning ship types, instead this book's info is listed in short tabular layouts. All in all a great book to have if you are interested in the IJN.
A very complete review on Imperial Japanese Navy's warships.......1998-05-15
The book is very complete, listing almost EVERY warship, of every size and type, manned by the IJN during the covered period. The data are quite detailed and the book is filled with a lot of fine drawings. The photos are not so numerous but all of them are of good quality. Every class is briefly described in all respects: technically, historically and as regard the operational career of each ship till her life's end (scrapped or lost, it doesn't matter). If you are looking for a complete reference on the IJN's warships, you can't miss this book: I own a good warship library, comprising other books dealing with the IJN, but I regard this one my true reference on the matter!

What an eye-opener!!.......2002-05-08
I am a fourteen-year-old who someday wants to become a doctor, but until I read this book I honestly had no idea what the medical residency entailed. Although Residents did not discourage me from my dream, it definitely opened my eyes to what I will be facing in less than ten years. However, I feel that this book is also of interest to people who do not have any interest in a medical career, simply because when it's estimated that 100,000 people die every year because of doctors' errors, it's obvious that this issue affects more than just the small percentage of the population going through residency training. A definite five-star read.
Trials and Tribulations of Medical Residency Training.......2000-04-12
Residents : The Perils and Promise of Educating Young Doctors gives a very true-to-life description of the often overworked and abused physician in training. When I read this book I was at the end of a very frustrating political battle in my own residency training which ended sadly with my moving into another field where I could still make use of my medical knowledge and training. In the book there are cases which sadly paralleled my own experience. The most positive aspect of this book is that it can make everyone aware of this often abusive training system which has a very powerful impact on medical training in this country and which ultimately effects everyone's health care. It is important for everyone to know what goes on in teaching hospitals and this book is both informative and very readable. It is unfortunate that it is currently out-of-print since it is important reading for anyone who is concerned about the health care system. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the field of health care or who cares about those who may need the services of a physician both now and in the future. It is a must read!
Better than NBC's ER!.......1997-02-02
David Duncan's exploration of the life of residents was fascinating and frightening. I couldn't put the book down. He really made me think twice about the current educational system for Doctors in this country. I can't wait to read another of Mr. Duncan's explorations!

Today's 'conservatives' don't know much about conserving.......2003-11-20
How on earth can you call a book about sustainability 'Mindful Conservatism', you might ask. Please don't let your preconceptions and the current usage of the term 'conservatism' make you turn away from this important and timely book.
C. A. Bowers opens up one of the most crucial debates that we should lead if we are serious about an ecologically sustainable future. We generally shy away from this discussion because of its potential pitfalls, misunderstandings and a tradition of abuse of the term 'conservatism'.
I believe that Bowers' book is hugely important because it emphasises throughout the concept of mindfulness, as opposed to preconceived convictions. It challenges us 'to rethink our traditional political categories' and to question what the media and politicians want to make us believe. We have to learn to step out of the box because the traditional political vocabulary simply is not fit to cope with the sustainability challenge.
The central question of the book is 'What do we need to conserve in order to have a more sustainable future and just world order?' This clearly calls for a complex answer and is also arguably the most important question to be asked if we want to turn our destructive, exploitative, overdeveloped and overconsuming global world order into something which can sustain itself within the limits of the ecosphere.
