Not the best book written on 'Hoss For Boss', but not the worst either. Ross, warts and all was the best choice in '96, not '92 .......2006-07-21
Col. James Bo Gritz was. Why he didn't get
on the bandwagon of Bo, or vise-versa is
one of the biggest mysteries in third party
history, since they both worked covertly and
together on bringing home our P.O.W.s and
M.I.A.s during tht years 1985-87! This was
originally Clint Eastwood's project, when he
contributed $30,000 for the rights to get the
story he wanted to do a movie on. But after-
wards, Perot, who got his own people out of
Iran, in '83, got Bo into and out of SE Asia
twice in the middle '80's after Perot accused
Bush of flubbing on Reagan's original number
one campaign promise of 1980. But when the
bright lights got on Perot in '92, he wilted
after Bush the Elder (father of 90 I.Q. idiot
presently @ 1600 Penn. Avg.) threatened to
wreck Perot's daughter's wedding. Perot, how-
ever did a good job with his economic graphs,
et, al. This book details some of Perot's
stronger points, though it doesn't endorse
him. Better than a lot of other books the
Establishment put out to smear him, however.

Book Description
Bobby the "Brain" Heenan's wrestling career spans nearly 40 years - from the early AWA and NWA to the WCW and WWF. Was wrestling as wild and crazy at its start as it is today? Try wilder and crazier! In this book Bobby tells all the stories, names all the names, and doesn't care who gets mad about it. Wrestling fans won't be able to put this down this "no-holds-barred" book - at least until the count of three.
Customer Reviews:
THE wrestling bad boy.......2006-05-17
Bobby Heenan... here's a man that didn't finish 8th grade yet became one of the biggest names and most hated men in wrestling history. Bobby fills us in with a plethora of anecdotes about his career and has no qualms about telling you who he didn't like (Valiant Brothers, Haystacks Calhoun, Tony Schiavone to name a few). This is a very loose writing style which covers loads of stories throughout his career, often jumping back and forth in time. Stories are brief and straight to the punch, usually just a paragraph or two. Time periods are based off your wrestling knowledge as Heenan does not identify the year something happened; but if your reading this book, you're probably a fan and know it just by those involved in the story.
There are some great stories involving Andre the Giant, Baron von Raschke, and even his real life appreciation of Hogan. He also really gets into his dislike of how WCW was run and all the positive career chances he received when dealing with WWF. My favorite chapter may have been the run-down of the Bobby Heenan Family which quickly covered most of the men he 'managed'. Overall, quick and fun read, wish it were longer.
Bobby's the man.......2006-04-17
Few people in the history of professional wrestling were as disliked as Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. He was smarmy, arrogant and flat out obnoxious. Mostly due to the fact he always gave off an air of being superior to those around him, especially the fans. What I'm saying is meant as a compliment because it was obvious to me that was the full intent behind his character. Bobby was supposed to be all those things and he managed to pull it off as well as anyone I've ever seen. Even as a little kid I knew the guy was something else.
If you are a fan of Pro Wrestling there's no doubt you will really enjoy this book. Fans of all ages will learn a whole lot about the biz. From the squared circle to the behind the scenes action it's all here. Bobby was in the industry for a very very long time and so he knows what he's talking about. The man let's it fly and pulls no punches. It's an enjoyable read. There's even a great foreword by the legendary Hulk Hogan. I would recommend this book to any and all fans of wrestling. You do not have to specifically be a Bobby fan to enjoy this book.
THIS BOOK TAKES STRAIN OFF YOUR BRAIN.......2005-01-30
THIS IS ABOUT BOBBY HEENAN LEGENDARY WRESTLER AND MANAGER. BOBBY TAKES US A BIT INTO HIS LIFE BUT MOSTLY HIS EXPERIENCES IN THE WEIRD WORLD OF PRO WRESTLING. BOBBY TELLS US SOME SCARY AND HILARIOUS STORIES COVERING ANDRE THE GIANT, NICK BOCKWINKEL, VERNE GAGNE, VINCES MCMAHON AND RUSSO, AND MANY MORE. BOBBY HAS A QUICK WIT AND IN MANY CASES IS JUST PLAIN HILARIOUS. HIS BOOK IS EASY TO READ AND THE HUMOR HELPS TO EASE THE MIND. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BRAIN. VERY RECOMMENDED.
Great read.......2004-04-14
This book is worth buying for the Andre the Giant stories alone.
One scene describing Andre during his afro years describes Bobby accidentally walking in whilst the big one was enjoying a local groupie in Japan. He description of the scene as appering to walk in on "a lion raping a rabbit" is perhaps the greatest line in literature since Shakespeare.
i love the brain but not his book!.......2004-04-01
wrestling fans save your money! i'm a big bobby heenan fan, but just can't recommend this book. it's PONDEROUS to read and other than one or two wisecracks, the brains personality just doesn't show here. doesn't give much detail and you get the impression it was written very quickly.
Book Description
Covering every Italian Spaghetti Westernmainly the good but also the bad and the uglythis is an authoritative, entertaining and comprehensive companion to the implausible international fusion of producers, directors, actors and composers who created the mythical Spaghetti West under the most improbable circumstances. Sergio Leones Dollars Trilogy led the field but many more major Spaghetti Westerns were made by important directors, including Sergio Corbuccis Navajo Joe, Carlo Lizzanis The Hills Run Red, and Duccio Tessaris A Pistol for Ringo. Combining analysis, information and lively anecdotes, this popular guide explores all of these films through the biographies and filmographies of key personnel, stories of each production, their locations and sets, sources, musical scores, detailed cast information and many illustrations, including original posters and stills.
Customer Reviews:
Not a complete Spaghetti Western filmography.......2005-11-24
I haven't read the book... But I checked out it's Index, and browsed for several of my favorite (moderately obscure) Spaghetti Westerns and directors. It didn't have any of them listed. So take that as a warning I guess... the discription seems to make this book seem more comprehensive than my brief overview of the Index. I would recommend you too check out the Table of Contents and Index page to make sure this is the book you're expecting.
Lots of minutae, not much theory.......2005-08-11
Very comprehensive in terms of actor and crew bios and production trivia, but very thin on theory and discussions about the social/thematic/character underpinnings of the genre and the films that made it so great. I was hoping for more of the author's thoughts on those sorts of things than lists of little known facts about cast and crew and so on.
Great Reference Book for Spaghetti Western Movie Lovers.......2005-06-19
If there's a man in your life who loves spaghetti westerns this is a perfect gift.

The manual - Volume 2.......2001-09-17
That the vulgar 'official strategy guide' label cheapens this book reflects SimLife's uneasy categorisation as a game. I don't know how well it sold, but I'd guess that people who bought SimLife on the reputation of SimCity and SimEarth were disappointed. Like the other Sims it doesn't make that much sense as a game, but unlike them, to most people it doesn't make much sense on any other level either. SimLife is about genetics, and unless you know something about genetics it looks rather dull.
SimLife only begins to make sense when you understand something about what it's doing under the covers, which means that the kinds of people who are drawn to the program are those who are interested in genetic algorithms and emergent behaviour. These kinds of things are generally grouped under the title of 'artificial life', and I'm betting most copies of SimLife that didn't end up in the bin found their way onto the computers of A-Life groupies.
I'm also guessing the game's authors knew this, because this book, written by the same team, reveals just how frighteningly technical the mechanisms concealed behind SimLife's cuddly interface really are. For me, this is where the book scores. It treats SimLife as a testbed for doing A-Life experiments, and it pulls no punches in describing the technicalities. It also becomes clear on reading that although SimLife models nature, it does so in a grossly abstract manner.
SimLife may have been ill-conceived as a game, but as a tinker-toy for A-Life aficionados it's a hit. But to get the most from the program you need to understand its design and philosophy, and this is the book that will fill you in. If it was my call I'd repackage SimLife with a two-volume manual set, and this would be Volume 2.

Superb resource book.......2007-05-03
I had this series of books before - loaned them out at work and never got them back (go figure!). Happy to have found them again here.
Recipe for one WILD office Xmas party.......2002-12-19
After we heard what a crazy holiday party the auditor's office was planning, our agency was determined to outdo them, so we hurriedly formed a committee to study the problem and suggest workable plans of action. After rejecting several alternative ideas (such as duckpin bowling and tea at the state museum) we decided to really cut loose and order pizza at lunch time. Supplemented with soft drinks from the machine in the lobby, no less! Everything was set for the best holiday party ever.
When (after days of waiting) the magical day and hour arrived, we all sat down to enjoy our lunchtime celebration when the realization hit: the only way we were going to have fun and interesting conversation was if we actually talked to each other!!
For a few agonizing minutes we silently munched on our pizza and considered the grim situation, until (in a moment reminiscent of the deus ex machina device of Greek theatre) one of our number arrived late, a Santa cap jauntily perched on his head, an easel and flip chart under one arm, and THIS BOOK under the other (he had a magic marker too, but I don't really remember where he was carrying that - perhaps in his pocket protector?). The party was saved!
Now when the folks from the auditor's office show off this year's crop of photocopies of their faces and other body parts, we'll have some stories to tell them about how much fun a REAL party can be.
Even More Games.......2000-11-27
Like a Rocky sequel, this book doesn't get it. It would be useful with children and young adults, but I could not use it with high functioning adults. Had I not been in a hurry, and had reviewed the book, I would not have purchased it.
Great idea's for anyone to use, anytime, anywhere!.......2000-04-08
This book has wonderful idea's to use in almost any setting. You could use the idea's with adults or youth. It is a complete resource for anyone who leads groups of people. It is full of fun activities to do!
Book Description
Lucie Aubrac (1912-2007), of Catholic and peasant background, was teaching history in a Lyon girls' school and newly married to Raymond, a Jewish engineer, when World War II broke out and divided France. The couple, living in the Vichy zone, soon joined the Resistance movement in opposition to the Nazis and their collaborators. Outwitting the Gestapo is Lucie's harrowing account of her participation in the Resistance: of the months when, though pregnant, she planned and took part in raids to free comrades—including her husband, under Nazi death sentence—from the prisons of Klaus Barbie, the infamous Butcher of Lyon. Her book is also the basis for the 1997 French movie, Lucie Aubrac, which was released in the United States in 1999.
Customer Reviews:
..a great story but it is just that.. a story.......2003-04-02
..Set in Lyon after the Germans had invaded the southern 'zone libre' this book purports to be a diary, written during a nine month period of 1943 by one of the most France's most famous resistance 'personalities'. Claude Berri's acclaimed 1995 film 'Lucie Aubrac' was based on the events described. As a number of reviewers have already remarked , many scenes in this account appear to have been directly conjured up from the author's imagination and the Aubracs themselves, subject to media scrutiny as France's resistance history is increasingly put under the microscope have admitted that this book is indeed part novelisation. Translated from the French 'Ils partiront dans l'ivresse' the author revels in her self portrayal as mother, heroine, & machine gun toting guerilla fighter and resistance cell leader. No where does she state that she and her husband were leading lights in a communist resistance grouping and no light is shed at all on what their role might have been in the capture by the Gestapo of De Gaulle's envoy and resistance unifier Jean Moulin in Caluire, a suburb of Lyon during June 1943. One of the main espisodes of the book is Aubrac's attempt to liberate her husband, captured at the same time as Moulin and held by Gestapo chief Klaus Barbie. The facility with which she is able to come and go from Gestapo headquarters in Lyon has led more than one writer to question whether or not the Aubracs were indeed on Barbie's payroll; either that or many elements of Raymond Aubrac's subsequent escape are pure invention. Of course Klaus Barbie muddied the waters somewhat at his trial in the late 80's but the brutal portrayal of him here simply begs the question...how could he possibly have been taken in as Aubrac suggests. Post Liberation, Aubrac's husband oversaw the 'épuration' or cleansing in and around Marseilles and effectively presided over a killing spree as suspected collaborators were ruthlessly hunted out of French society and summarily executed in many cases. Facts that sit uneasily with the rather rose-tinted view of resistance presented here...In France the Aubrac's are still taking to court authors who question the veracity of their accounts...
One of the best WWII Books I have ever read!!!.......2002-10-12
Lucie Aubrac captivated me. She writes about facts with the warmth of a woman who is dedicated to the Resistance, to her husband, and to her child. When you read this you are plunged into the French Resistance almost as if you had been there!!!
Very Interesting Account of Resistance Activity.......2001-04-26
Lucie Aubrac's first hand account of her "career" as a key member of the French resistance in the city of Lyon can't help but evoke an emotional connection between the author's gripping story and the reader sitting in comfort at home. I mostly second all that the previous reviewer lauded. The story itself is compelling, and the glimpse that it offers of a woman's struggle to balance the cares of wife, mother, "girlfriend," "fiancee," patriot, etc., provides a much needed balance to our understanding of the total effects of a conflict such as WWII. The personalness of the book is perhaps its greatest strength.
The translation is extremely fluid and detracts not at all from the author's tale.
Some criticism to keep in the back of the mind: it could simply be the author's purpose, however, I was struck by the seeming lack of concern of being caught -- until the end of the book (I won't spoil it for you). Lucie's life seems to be minimally impacted by her resistance ties. Like I said, maybe she left out those details on purpose, I don't know. The other thing the "bothered" me was the unconvincing account of how she was able to arrange for the purchase of silencers in Switzerland, travel to Switzerland to pick up the silencers, and then recross the border the same day without arousing suspicion. I doubt she was able to pick up the telephone and call a gun dealer to arrange the transaction -- maybe I missed it. Whatever, just something to consider.
On the whole, I heartily endorse this book; it is exciting without being Bond-ish, and it is personal without being too proximate. Furthermore, it convincingly demonstrates the various motives of resistance, and it illustrates the fact that even a single person can make a difference in a struggle as vast as a world at war.
A true story of selfless love and generosity!.......2000-06-27
Outwitting the Gestapo is the real life experience of one woman's determination, at all costs, to save her husband, her true other half, from execution by the infamous Klaus Barbie, "Butcher of Lyon." That is what makes it so compelling. I was drawn to this memoir, written in diary form, from May 14, 1943 through February 12, 1944, because I had seen the French film, * Lucie Aubrac *. A gorgeous film, that follows the same experience as this book, I was left wanting more. I was richly rewarded by reading this intimate revelation of the French Resistance and the couple who are equally committed to each other and the freedom of France. This story is a vivid portrait of devotion and fortitude. Raymond, Lucie Aubrac's husband, and the father of her young son and the child she carries in her womb, is arrested and sentenced to die. Lucie has been involved with the resistance since its beginning, but with the advent of this new ordeal, she masterminds a terrifying attempt to free her beloved husband. With her "buddies" in the resistance, a plan is orchestrated that involves the increasingly expanding Lucie to have almost daily contact with Klaus Barbie. Singlehandedly, she attempts to convince this monster to allow a contact with Raymond, making Barbie believe that she is an unwed mother who must marry Raymond to give her child a name. Constantly changing names and domains, Lucie and the other members of the resistance live with the constant fear of being caught, yet nothing inteferes with their goals. Their unflinching resolve is what makes for true heroism; their dedication to each other redefines friendship for me. The film is indeed beautiful, but it is in many ways short-sighted. There is so much more to this story than is presented on celluloid. Lucie Aubrac tells her remarkable story while enveloping her comrades into her heart, and presents the reader with the depth of her love for Raymond and France. This book gives a more complete picture of France and the Resistance, and of course, the love that many people would want to die for. Outwitting the Gestapo gave me a deep feeling of satisfaction.

Book Description
This is a Syriac text written, in all probability, by an inhabitant of Edessa almost immediately after the conclusion of the war between Rome and Persia in 502–506 AD. Although that conflict is treated in other ancient texts, none of them can match "Joshua" in his wealth of detail, his familiarity with the region where the hostilities occurred, and his proximity in time to the events. The Chronicle also vividly describes the famine and plague that swept through Edessa in the years immediately before the war. The work is a document of great importance for both the social and military history of late antiquity, remarkable for the information it provides on Roman and Persian empires alike.
Book Description
Winner of the 1999 Herskovits Award by the African Studies Association. This boldly critical book explores the contradiction of massive genocide in a country considered by Western aid agencies to be a model of development. Focusing on the 1990s dynamics of militarization and polarization that led to genocide, Uvin reveals how aid enterprises reacted, or failed to react, to those dynamics. He goes on to discuss the profound structural basis upon which the genocidal edifice was built.
Customer Reviews:
Was the development industry complicit?.......2003-12-12
Uvin's argument is not that aid workers in Rwanda participated in the genocide of 1994, nor even that they were accomplices in it. Rather, "AIDING VIOLENCE" contends that the development business--by the very nature of its mission--contributed to a state of severe inequity and "structural violence" that over many decades had made Rwanda fertile ground for widespread ethnic hatred leading to massive bloodshed.
It is the apolitical nature of aid, the author tells us, that plays into the hands of the killers and their ringleaders. The book is reminiscent of Ferguson's "ANTI-POLITICS MACHINE" in this way. Where Uvin's contribution is greatest is his ability to situate this discussion about the ramifications of "development" in the Rwandan context, with ample documentary support for his conclusions. He also isn't so naive as to think that the Rwandan genocide was somehow foisted on a passive population by an overpoweringly evil elite. Sure, they were evil, but the hundreds of thousands of Rwandans who took part in the violence had more reason to do so than simply because their leaders told them to.
This book will likely give you some serious doubts about the entire concept of development and just what it means anyway in a world rife with turmoil, inequality and discrimination. And that is precisely what Uvin intended it to do.
Book Description
From the northern shores and tundra, across the western plains and mountains, to the swamps and southern shores, AMERICA'S WILDLIFE REFUGES honors and celebrates the centennial anniversary and incredible success stories of our nation's wildlife refuges. Larger than our National Park System, the National Wildlife Refuge System is the largest system of lands in the world dedicated to placing "wildlife first." Represented in every state and visited annually by more than 34 million people, there are 538 refuges covering nearly 95 million acres that provide protected habitat for over 2100 species of animals, including 260 of our most imperiled species. The spectacular color photography of Tom and Pat Leeson brings the dramatic beauty of the refuge lands and their inhabitants to life, while author Jeanne Clark tells the amazing success stories of American wildlife, including the brown pelican, the bison, the bald eagle, and the desert pupfish.
