Lookout Matt, Dale, and Jeff !.......2003-08-21
At age 25, Kurt Busch is an excellent contender in the 2003 WC season. Straight from the Craftsman Trucks, his talents on the track compare to Gordon, Earnhardt, and Petty.
Young Gun starts with Kurt's days of dirt tracks in Nevada up through present day. Understand that a lot can be written even though it is only his 3rd season in WC. The pictures are great, except I was hoping for the historic photo finish at Darlington. The book makes you appreciate all of his hard work. And he's a Cub's fan ! Even both of Jimmy Spencer's fans will enjoy this masterpiece.

Book Description
All companies rely on e-mail as a critical business tool, but few have considered the policies and systems necessary to safeguard their interests. Important information including transaction details, trade secrets, and confidential documents contained within messages are business assets with serious legal and financial implications. If an organization is to be safe, it needs a practical system for handling everything that comes into-and leaves-its computers. A toolkit for protecting any company's electronic capital, E-Mail Rules shows how to:
* Use technology, policy, and employee training to minimize the loss of data * Create enterprise-wide retention rules for the saving and disposal of messages * Gain control of transmission and ensure a secure electronic environment * Develop strategies for related technologies like instant messaging, list serves, and online chat
E-Mail Rules shows readers how to maximize the effectiveness of their organizations' e-mail systems, and put an end to lost or compromised information.
Customer Reviews:
Rules and Policy.......2007-08-13
A fine book, and a nice addition to the growing necessity for managing employee activity and office automation. It should be said that a more comprehensive treatment can be found in "I.T. Wars: Managing the Business-Technology Weave in the New Millennium."
Getting A Handle on E-Mail Compliance.......2005-07-12
In a recent review of "The ePolicy Handbook: Designing and Implementing Effective E-Mail, Internet and Software Policies", I wrote asking questions such as "Does your company or organization have a policy that covers writing style in electronic communications? Does your company or organization have cyberinsurance to cover losses attributed to errors or employee misbehavior using your e-mail systems? Does your company or organization offer netiquette training for employees and managers?"
In her follow-up book, E-Mail Rules - A Business Guide to Managing Policies, Security, and Legal Issues for E-Mail and Digital Communication, (254 Pages, The American Management Association, 2003), Nancy Flynn takes a narrower view of the management of E-Mail and Digital Communication in the enterprise.
Much like her first book, Flynn lays out 37 Rules to follow in establishing and managing these policies. She starts out by establishing a framework to build a case for e-mail management. This section covers the need to reduce liability and exposure, real world legal issues, and spelling pout that e-mail belongs to the employer not the employee. From this point, she goes into specific issues surrounding privacy (very important for international communications and differences in laws), content management, Listserv use, and more. The book also has very good concise discussion about retaining e-mail as business records, different methods of storage, and employee education. Flynn then delves into discussions of E-mail Security and managing alternative technologies such as instant messaging and peer-to-peer networking technologies.
Fir this reader, the most important rules are the last two in the book, that deal with employee training as the key to reducing risk, and working to instill a sense of ownership in employees. Without these two items, no policy ever written will work or be effective.
Much like her first book though, the only caution for potential readers is that this book also seems to be a lead-in as a commercial for the services and her colleagues as listed in Appendix C.
The Scorecard: Par on an average Par 4.
Great Book.......2004-03-05
Nancy Flynn is brilliant. Love this book! I also heard she's speaking at two conferences. I'm going to Enterprise Messaging Decisions in Chicago in early May. I think the url is enterprisemessagingdecisions.com. She's also speaking at another conference in June in San Fran. Maybe I'll go to both!
It Will Pay for Itself a Hundred Times Over.......2003-05-01
This book covers it all. From email etiquette to how to protect yourself in case of a law suit. Email is a major part of any business --- large and small. And if you're not prepared to handle it; if you don't know how to use it, what to save and what to get rid of, you're going to end out in one big mess.
This book can save you a lot of time and money by telling you how to deal with spam, what sort of policies to implement in your company or business, what email etiquette is all about and many other topics.
This is a book you should have and use no matter how large or small your business is.

Best Small Book on Ronald Reagan.......2007-10-08
John Barletta, through his insight and understanding, with a rock-solid foundation of character and integrity, has connected with President Reagan as few others ever have. Reagan's inner-core and genuine goodness, plus our personal contact with him and the guidelines and special bonds we forged with this uncommon man were granted to a few of us who were privileged to spend those rare moments at his side while his core values transferred, as if by osmosis, to our minds and our hearts.
Barletta's view and understanding of Reagan is exceptional and true. His pleasant,easy-to-read, conversational style of writing is reader-friendly and gives the reader a "you are there" "eyewitness" feeling. The author had to come away from each experience with RR feeling more and more as if he were part of Reagan's extended family; an almost brotherly connection for the two of them.
It sure did for a few of us who were there at the beginning of RR's political career, like Edwin Meese III, Wm.P. Clark, Lyn Nofziger and Tom Reed.
What a pleasure NOT having to wade though pages of footnotes and notes to get to the meaning of this remarkable book. Not necessary when the author is intimately aware of his subject, as Barletta is. No nonsense, fabrications or embellishments in this book; just the facts--- beautifully explained. Thanks! Curtis Patrick, author, REAGAN: WHAT WAS HE REALLY LIKE?
Not a RR fan, but knew him better after the read.......2007-05-15
I had personal reason to buy this after seeing the author on C-span Book TV since I knew people close to one of those mentioned in the book. Can't say who or how it got to her, but after reading it got a nod and wink. Think you'll do the same.
Inside Look.......2007-05-14
Barietta lets us into the inner circle outside Reagan's 'kitchen cabinet'. He paints a picture of Reagan that allows one to understand the essence of the man; his connection with the individual, and as such, the people. The author's allegiance to the President does not cloud the reality of the relationship between these two men. Despite the professional connection, Reagan had a way, I summize, to bridge that barrier and maintain a bond that is clear through the author's typewritten words.
Please Get This Man An Editor!.......2006-04-03
While I have included this book in my collection of Ronald Reagan books, and enjoyed the stories and photos of President Reagan's life at the ranch, the book is often clumsily written, and needed a strong editor's hand.
There are numerous mistakes that should have been corrected in the proof stage. Just for example, Mr. Barletta repeatedly spells the name of Margaret Thatcher's husband as "Dennis" rather than the correct "Denis". He refers to a White House state dinner at which (a long-happily married) Tom Lasorda is accompanied by his "date" Angie Dickinson. He describes the Reagans' friends Alfred and Betsy Bloomingdale as the "founders of the famed department store", when the store was founded in 1872 by Alfred's grandfather -- Alfed Bloomingdale is actually known as the "founder" of the Diner's Club card. Barletta refers to Maureen Reagan's "parents" in discussing Nancy Reagan (on Page 183) such that it appears he thinks Nancy was Maureen's mother! He says (on Page 101) that "after Reagan left office" Barletta commissioned an artist to paint a portrait of he and Reagan riding, "which he completed in June 1988". Since Reagan didn't leave office until January 1989, this does not make sense, and it's the kind of mistake which any competent proofreader would have caught. Finally, there are several quotes in the earlier part of the book (less so in the later sections) in which the language is stilted and unnatural.
Nevertheless, people interested in details of Reagan's private life during and after his presidency will enjoy the book.
The Gipper Would Be Proud!.......2006-03-14
I loved this book! It's such an interesting and different book about Ronald Reagan. Instead of politics, it's the recollections from his friend and secret service agent. I learned so much about horses and the secret service that I could not put this book down. It was nice to read about Reagan the man instead of Reagan the president. And it's always nice to read the insights from someone who was really there. I can picture Reagan riding his horse on his ranch thanks to the vivid descriptions in this book. I also learned a lot about the character of John Barletta. It's easy to see why Ronald and Nancy liked him so much. He's quite a guy. The story gets very sad at the end but I'm so proud to have this book in my collection. Also, I was glad that John was blunt and honest about Ron, Jr. and Patti. Those two have been speaking up a lot lately, but as is said in the book, they rarely visited their father when he was in good health. I wish I could have met Ronald Reagan. Thanks to this book, I feel like I know him.

Book Description
Written from the perspective of someone who has worked in local government, this text is a comprehensive, thematically-organized treatment of California politics. The author brings the subject to life for students using the two themes--diversity and hyperpluralism--that make California's political climate so interesting. In particular, the author examines the growing proliferation of pressures and groups that compete for attention and make governing the state increasingly challenging. And, to illustrate the connection between California politics and American politics, the author discusses aspects of American politics--such as the democratic, elite, and pluralist theories--and how these broader concepts add new clarity and depth to any understanding of California politics.
Customer Reviews:
Gorgeous pictures - great deal.......2005-11-04
The pictures are fascinating and the price of the book is reasonable. We bought it for ourselves and as a gift.
Somewhat of a disappointment........2004-08-26
Since I got myself involved into landscape phototgraphy I have been a fan of David Muench's breathtaking large format images.
I purchased several of his books and my favorites so far are Plateau Light and Colorado II. So it is with excitement that I ordered this book. But for the first time I have to say that I am quite disappointed. The work here is quite inequal in quality. One great image is sometime next to an average one. Looking at the credits, I realized that most of the pictures I do not like are from March Muench. It is clear to me that he's still got work to do to catch up with his father in terms of image quality and composition. Overall, I would say that there's about 1/3 of absolutly great images, 1/3 of good ones and the last 1/3 of average (average for someone like the Muenchs but still better than most week-end photographers).
Overal I sometime have the feeling that this book is more a catalog than a real, coherent work of art.
If this is your first California book, buy it, you will be amazed by some of the pictures. But keep in mind that this far from the best David muench has produced over the years.
Breathtaking photos, wide varitey of beatiful landscapes.......2000-03-20
I love David and Marc Muench's photography and this book is a treasured addition to my library. The color and production values are exquisite and up to the high standards I expect from Muench.
These photos capture the awesome beauty and fantastic variety in California's natural landscape through the seasons. The book is divided into sections for the mountains, forests & plains, coast and desert.
Muench has brought new life to many often photographed landmarks with his mastery of light and detail. He has also uncovered many beautiful but less known places; dawn & dusk skies, vibrant flowers, delicate waterfalls & more.
James Lawrence's accompanying text touching on a wide range of topics relating to California's natural history is fascinating and entertaining. I have loved spending hours with this magnificent book.
Incredible.......1999-12-18
This book confirmed my feeling that David Muench is, for lack of a better description, the Ansel Adams of color photography. I already owned his Appalachian Trail book, "Uncommon Places" (I think it's called), but my brother wanted a California-related book for Christmas, so I picked this up, sight unseen. Quite simply, it's breathtaking. The photos span the length and breadth of the state, from Humboldt County's misty redwood stands to the La Jolla coast, to Yosemite and the mountain passes and lakes of the Southern Sierras along the John Muir Trail. There are even a handful of urban photos that make downtown L.A. look quite nice. If ever you doubted that we live in the closest to a natural paradise as there is, take a look at this book, and doubt no more.
Gorgeous Photos.......1999-12-11
The most beautiful book with California's photos I've ever seen. I have already one book by Muenches and when I so this one I didn't have to open it to make sure it's gorgeous. But it was even better then I expected. It has 4 parts: Mountains, Oak and Grass, Coast and Deserts. So, you are not gonna miss any detail of nature in California (of course poppies, redwoods and spanish moss on the trees are there too). If you want to make somebody going to California give him this book :) I promise anybody will fall in love with California and Muenches' books.

Book Description
In this innovative study of the rise of the conservation ethic in northern New England, Richard Judd shows that the movement that eventually took hold throughout America had its roots among the communitarian ethic of countrypeople rather than among urban intellectuals or politicians. Drawing on agricultural journals and archival sources such as legislative petitions, Judd demonstrates that debates over access to and use of forests and water, though couched in utilitarian terms, drew their strength and conviction from deeply held popular notions of properly ordered landscapes and common rights to nature.
Unlike earlier attempts to describe the conservation movement in its historical context, which have often assumed a crude dualism in attitudes toward nature--democracy versus monopoly, amateur versus professional, utilitarian versus aesthete--this study reveals a complex set of motives and inspirations behind the mid-nineteenth-century drive to conserve natural resources. Judd suggests that a more complex set of contending and complementary social forces was at work, including traditional folk values, an emerging science of resource management, and constantly shifting class interests.
Common Lands, Common People tells us that ordinary people, struggling to define and redefine the morality of land and resource use, contributed immensely to America's conservation legacy.
