Perplexing.......2006-12-07
Why on earth was this woman's life and death anything but a personal tragedy to her family?! (And her two decades long feathery, matronly before her time, bowl cut a great fashion tragedy. For all their animus, I think Camilla Parker Bowles and Diana shared the same hairdresser.) Why do Americans of all people care?
Yes-It is total trash.......2005-12-09
I too believe that Nicholas Davies is a little toad who hated the Princess. His book was total crap and it is so obvious he is writing it to get money for himself. Don't waste your money!
Total Trash.......2004-01-18
Well if I'm not greatly mistaken this is published by the same people who published National Inquirer, The Glove and The Star. Enough Said. It's just rumours put into a book.
I mean whatever gossip that's been on the royals that's been out there for the pass 30 or 40 years is thrown in this book.
It's a great titles at least the LIES part.
I love the rumour which has been going around since it was disclose Diana had the misfortune to chose James "the cad" Hewitt as a lover that he's the father of Prince Harry. Well as been stated many times they didn't meet or start their affair until 1986 with Harry being born 1984 but why let that stop you Nicholas Davis? What has been know of Hewitt is since the affair ended he has done whatever he could to make money of this affair giving interviews, writing books, trying to sell her love letters to him proves he's totally without character so if there was even a remote possiblity he could be Harry's father don't you think he would milk it for what it's worth??? Plus if the Royal Family wanted to murdered an annoying person who better then Hewitt especially should there be an ounce of truth to him being Harry's father. As someone else stated red hair is a family trait just look at the present Earl Spencer plus Lady Sarah and Lady Jane truth is Diana was the only one without red hair it's fairly obvious that a child of her would have red hair.
I have read about Princess Diana since she got engaged to Prince Charles in Feb. 24'81 so I feel I'm pretty knowledgeable but this book it's from the gutter. I bet this wasn't published in the U.K. it's too libel???? Total total trash save your money.
PS Wish I could get it no stars it's that horrible.
Finally, a writer with courage to write what others won't.......2003-10-25
Hurray, Nicholas Davies! The cover caught me, but the book held me, continously from beginning to end. I couldn't put it down! You bring to light some issues and points worth thinking about. Any reader out there is a fool to think they understand the whole story just by having read one book. You must read many books on the subject from different authors, different perspectives to only begin to put the whole complex puzzle together. I recommend this book!! The Royal history it provides gives it even more depth. A must read!!
Should be a short story not a book.......2003-10-16
Such a big deal was made of his courage to tell the truth about Princess Diana's death, well one chapter doesn't explain it. In fact this book is about beating up on a woman that was loved by many. Luck for Princess Diana the public will love her no matter what a money hungry writer will say. Also shame on the people(magazine writers)that misrepresented this book. Total disappointed and a waste of time and money
Book Description
In his last year of eligibility, Robert Anasi, age thirty-two, decided to fight in the Golden Gloves tournament, the premier event in amateur boxing. "The gym becomes a way of life," he explains, and so it does for the reader, as Anasi ushers us into the world of training and competition, of friendly rivalry, of artistry and violence. He tells his story not as a journalist on assignment but as a man in the midst of one of the great adventures of his life, and in his hands "a dying blood sport is reincarnated as a metaphor for redemption under flawed circumstances" (Nita Rao, The Village Voice).

Pretty good read.......2007-07-23
A very enjoyable read with a lot of interesting people in it. It isn't rags-to-riches and it isn't Cinderella. It's just day-to-day life of people (the author very much included) who live what they love. He throws in a few stats here and there, a lot of things that are related to boxing in general (everything from small gym history to brain injury stats) but he doesn't interrupt the flow, you're not distracted by it (for the most part). My only complaint is that he got a little preachy on the race stuff. I don't disagree with the message, I'm just not into preaching.
A must read for Pro or Amateur Boxing Enthusiasts .......2005-11-30
A very compelling look into the life of an amateur boxer; Anasi takes the reader into the gym where white athletes are clearly the minority. He toughs it out with a trainer that at first is less than encouraging to Anasi's style and everything he's ever been taught about boxing. It is by far one of the most interesting books I've read about boxing pro or amateur. No matter how much you know about the sport, you will learn something new from the perspective of Anasi.
An "excellent Buy".......2005-10-07
I thought that this book was very well written. It told a very entertaining story of the life of a boxer. I was able to visualize and feel everything he was going through, Good and Bad, through his words
Gritty, Open View of Non-Pro Boxing.......2005-04-10
An excellent read from start to finish. Anasi's style jumps around a little bit (flashback, present, flash"sideways?"), but it adds to the flavor. I really felt a part of the scene. Also, Anasi's knowledge of the sport, and racial tensions, is deep. Opinionated, but deep. The ending could have been stronger - that's the only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars.
Impressive, Exciting and Honest Look At Amateur Boxing.......2004-09-14
Addictive, Exciting and Honest Look At Amateur Boxing
4.75 Stars
George Plimpton is quoted as having said that The Gloves "As good a book as any I've read about the sport" - not exactly a ringing endorsement and I was a little worried -
This is actually a great book right from the start.
I was immediately hooked and addicted to his trainer's (Milton) style of fighting - something about the concept of Southpaw's just grabs me and especially a non-natural Southpaw - anyway that's what truly hooked me in.
The story is true - and the experience of reading Anasi's practice and journey through the world of amateur boxing is so real and compelling that you just can't put the book down.
The characters and people he meets and trains with are very interesting and he does such a great job in retelling his tale.
There was a point where the book dragged a bit, but as a whole it's a great story.
It's an impressive, exciting and honest look at amateur boxing, of amateur boxers and the sport of boxing in general.
Great book - give it a read.

Western movie buffs, this book is definitely for you.......2006-01-21
Do you want to know where Stagecoach or Giant were shot? Or, vice versa, what movies have been shot in Old Paria or Moab? The information is all here, complete with directions on how to get to the various top Western movie sites and what to look for.
The very helpful appendix includes information on Westerns that have won Oscars, city and state film commissions, best locations to visit, and fictional sources for selected Westerns.
So saddle up the horse, or your car or other vehicle, and get ready to see some outdoor, larger than life movie studios.
A good book on movie locations but.......2004-08-27
I hope nobody wasted any time trying to match up the Gunga Din picture on page 74 to the sand dunes of the lower Colorado River. It was filmed mostly in Lone Pine, California. That scene of British gatling gunners was filmed just off Whitney Portal Road.
A Work of Love.......2000-12-07
The author John A. Murray really wrote a work of love on movies and their southwest location (California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas). From such diverse films such as High Plains Drifter; Leaving Las Vegas; Sergeant Rutledge; Thelma & Louise; Jerimah Johnson; Easy Rider; and Tender Mercies. If you travel through parts of the Southwest (including the mystical ones) then your journey's will be a bit more enjoyable having been to the spot where Clark Cable, Montgomery Clift and Marylin Monroe created the Misfits! My trips have been more interesting! Cheers!

Book Description
As a generation of baby boomers nears retirement, our country is facing a dilemma. By 2010, there may be a shortage of 4 to 6 million workers, causing a dearth of effective leaders. Nearly every recent crisis-corporate bankruptcies, political scandals, moral failures in the church-can be traced to a leadership deficit. The common denominator? Broken trust.
Author Les T. Csorba sees trust as the most indispensable force between leaders and followers. Here he offers observations gleaned from two decades of experience in government, business, church, and family. Part meditation, part how-to manual,
Trust examines characteristics of trusted leadership, including The 7 Principles of the Trust. Finally, the book features interactive elements such as The Leader Check: a guide to evaluating whether you are developing the trust necessary to motivate and richly lead followers.
Customer Reviews:
Right wing and religious.......2006-02-02
Good for the right wing, religious individual or (for those of us who are neither) those looking to expand your horizon. Must have a VERY open mind to read this book if you are not spiritual or are more liberal.
Well written, interesting arguments, just not for me.
Right Philosophy, Questionable Examples.......2005-12-17
The premise put forth in the title is supported by some keen insights into "leadership by Calling" and comparisons to it with "modern leadership theory." Les Csorba writes about the danger of pursuing results without compassion; a point with which I agree. Unfortunately, some of the examples he chooses are questionable...
After warning about the danger of weak character in powerful leaders, Csorba chastises German Chancellor Schroeder for turning back on some promises to George W Bush regarding the war on terrorism and then goes on to deride him for his four wives. Meanwhile he praises Jack Welch for going from Neutron Jack to a gentler Jack (which Jack says he would abandon if needed)while still making the "tough" decisions that got the "results" for the shareholders. Jack can change is mind and go back to compassionless results... OK. Also, there is no mention that Jack was getting results with his personal secretary whilst the wife was at home...
Unfortunately the theme in Csorba's examples becomes one of bashing the mistakes of Democrats and forgiving the sins of the Republicans. He does sprinkle in some condemnation for a few wrong-minded Republicans in a meek attempt at balance. It's a shame that he turned this into a politcally tainted work. It started off so well.
It started off well even though it will turn off readers who are not people of faith as faith is central precept to this book. It also started off well even though he chose to make George W Bush the role model for how to be a trust-able leader. Unfortunately this conservative/political bent turned an even harder right from there and kept going. It kept going to the point that I could no longer plan on sharing this book with some folks I know who really need it. They would simply say its a Bush-ie/right-winger book and dismiss the valuable and otherwise soundly argued premise. Too bad. Csorba almost had a classic instead of a politically tainted leadership manual.
I say this even though I am Republican, am one of the few folks who would admit they were voting for Bush BEFORE the election, am a person of faith, and tend to find the Dems an easy target. But this book was supposed to be about so much more than Republican politics. Too bad.
"Trust" - Relevant and Informative.......2004-09-17
Les Csorba's book, "Trust: The One Thing that Makes or Breaks a Leader," provides instructive guidance in analyzing the business, political and civic challenges that leaders face today and in the future.
Many of the illustrations in the book come directly from Csorba's own experiences or through interviews with well-known leaders. With the backdrop of the Enron trials and an upcoming Presidential election, the issue of trust becomes highly relevant.
Csorba uses insights that he has gained in the business world, and in working at the White House, to analyze what leaders need to be successful. He combines historical stories with his real-life experiences to weave together a comprehensive explanation on why trust can make or break a leader.
One aspect that is not often seen in current business books is including the spiritual perspective. The Saturday or Sunday spiritual lessons are many times forgotten or ignored by Monday morning. When addressing a character/moral issue like "trust," one cannot forget the spiritual guidance and Biblical lessons that are the bases for character/moral issues.
I highly recommend "Trust: The One Thing that Makes or Breaks a Leader" as a relevant and informative source for analyzing the current state of our leaders. Hopefully, our future leaders are taking note of these insights as well.
Trust blasts Pragmatism.......2004-09-16
If you have been wondering why you're so frustrated watching the News, you need to read this book.
Les Csorba has identified a major defect in our culture. Our motivation is all screwed up. We need to do what we do because it is the right thing to do - not just to get the results that we want.
This book calls a spade a spade and gives helpful solutions to a broken and bleeding culture. It calls us all to be leaders.
Very worthwhile reading.
Trust: The One Thing That Makes or Breaks a Leader.......2004-08-27
Mr. Csorba is right on target with this book. The book is full of hard hitting information that will have a great effect on the way we conduct our businesses and lives. The book gives us a renewed respect and awareness of what really matters in a person. A great read.

Tell Me More..........2007-06-08
This audio book surpassed my expectations! The life of Ed Feldman was wildly entertaining and Christian Hoff does an incredible job. I feel such an appreciation for the hard work of a producer and value each movie I watch that much more. I would like to thank Ed Feldman for allowing us to step into his life and enjoy his stories of some of our favorite actors. I couldn't of thought of anyone better to narrate than the brilliant Christian Hoff. How does he do that!John Wayne was my favorite.
I recommend this beautifully written story of Ed Feldman's life to everyone.
World-Record Great Voices and a Wonderful Story of the Movie Industry over the Past 5 Decades.......2007-03-02
I've heard the book twice now. I obtained the CD set initially looking to hear Christian Hoff's Guinness world-record 241 voices, which are amazing, but I was treated to a wonderful story by publicist/producer Ed Feldman, with collaborators Tom Barton and Jimmy Merrill, as well.
The audiobook took me through the last half-century, concentrating as much on Bette Davis, John Wayne, Cary Grant and Barbra Streisand as on Harrison Ford, Eddie Murphy, Jim Carrey, and Glenn Close--with wonderful backstories about Murphy in "The Golden Child" and Close in "101 Dalmations."
The stories were thrilling, so much so that I sat in my parked car not wanting to interrupt the wonderful story-telling of the antics on the set of "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" or the casting challenge of Barbara Streisand in "Funny Girl." Christian Hoff brings Bette Davis and Joan Crawford back to life, and does a magnificent Streisand inflection.
And I also finally learned exactly what a producer does, as Ed (Christian) takes us through his own wonderful experience of producing Harrison Ford's and Kelly McGillis's "Witness", from having no major studio interest to 8 Academy Award nominations, including one for Ed himself.
I also finally learned what a "producer" actually does. Basically, he "fixes" problems and is the general manager of the film. One thing a producer doesn't do, though, is put his/her own money into a production! Funny, all these years, I've thought the producer was putting his/her monies at risk along with mine!!
But the best part of "Tell Me How You Love the Picture" is personal, describing how Ed met and married Lorraine, literally the girl next door in the Bronx as Ed was growing up, and how they've now been together for 53 years.
Great job, Ed, Tom and Jimmy. And absolutely marvelous story-telling and voice creation, Christian. These stories are a great and wonderful education in the movie industry over the past 50 years. Worth every penny.
Tell Me How You Love the Picture .......2006-02-23
Ed Feldman has been a distinguished producer for many years. He spent several years in advertising, and various aspects of the motion picture industry on his way up, met many of the "greats". He tells his story in a lively and convincing manner. His "7 rules" extend beyond producing and can apply to many aspects of life. I particularly enjoyed his discussion of his meeting and marrying the girl next door.
Funny and Superb Account of Hollywood.......2006-01-15
I just finished, Tell Me How You Loved the Picture and really liked it. Feldman worked his way up the Hollywood ladder from pr guy to producer and has very funny experiences along the way. The book covers Feldman's Hollywood covers antecdotes from Liz Taylor to Jim Carrey filming The Truman Show. I've never read a better book for understanding what a producer actually does. I highly recommend Tell Me How You Love the Picture.
If You Love Pictures, You Will Love This Book About The Pictures.......2005-11-29
Ed Feldman's "Tell Me How You Love the Picture: A Hollywood Life," written in collaboration with Tom Barton, is a fascinating, behind-the-scenes account of a Hollywood movie producer. Feldman, who started out in the movie business as a publicist for 20th Century Fox and worked his way up the ladder to produce big time, blockbuster hits, recounts in his book the tricky path that a movie producer frequently must walk between investors, studio executives, directors, actors and sometimes even puppy advocates in order to get his picture in the neighborhood cinemaplex. Readers, especially Hollywood movie fans, will enjoy the many humorous stories and delightful reminiscences about big named actors such as Elizabeth Taylor, Glenn Close, Jim Carrey, Harrison Ford and Eddie Murphy.

Book Description
Settler-native conflicts in Northern Ireland, Israel/Palestine, and South Africa serve as excellent comparative cases as three areas linked to Britain where insurgencies occurred during roughly the same period. Important factors considered are settler parties, settler mythology, the role of native fighters, settler terror, the role of liberal parties, and the conduct of the war by security forces. Settlers and natives in each area share similar attitudes, liberal parties operate in similar fashions, and there are common explanations for the formation of splinter liberation groups. However, according to Mitchell, the key difference between the cases lies in the behavior of British security forces in comparison to South African and Israeli forces. Mitchell's chapter on liberal parties includes an independent account of the Progressive Federal Party of South Africa, the official parliamentary opposition from 1977 to 1987, along with the first major published account of the Alliance Party in Northern Ireland. His study of splinter group formation contains the first major account since 1964 of the Pan-Africanist Party of Azania, including its insurgency campaign in the 1980s and 1990s. Mitchell also contrasts behavior among the Inkatha Party and Labour Party in South Africa with the Social Democrat and Labour Party in Northern Ireland.
