In todays world of soccer moms and overzealous little league dads, here is a touching narrative from a father who "gets it".
Pete Nelson was a hard working , blue collar dad who watched his son become the best college basketball player in the land and then a budding star in the NBA.
The book also gives a perspective of how an entire community (in this case Chester Pa.) plays a role in the formulation of great kids.
The author (recently deseased) gave us, through his story, a blueprint for raising motivated successful kids.

I really liked the Jameer book. I found it a fun and easy read, that had a story with lots of energy and drive. I enjoyed the many page-long stories from family and friends of Jameer as a suplement to the exciting main story. Together they presented a close and personal picture of a young athlete, at the same time that it did not become your standard, one-dimensional "from rags to riches"-story. The story is told by people who love and care about Jameer, and their sentiments make the book the hart-warming story it is.

Simply put, OUTSTANDING! Elaine and Pete, bring Jameer to life! From his early years all the way to the NBA the reader receives an up-close and intimate look into the life of Jameer Nelson. This is simply one of the best sports biographys that I have ever read. This book is not only for the sports enthusiast or Jameer fan. For, it is also takes a personal look at his family and friends. We see his/their dedication and his/their devotion that helped shape the person we all know as Jameer. As a side note, it also has a very positive message about Chester, Pennsylvania, Jameer's hometown and the mutual love and respect they (Jameer and Chester) have for one another. Overall, a wonderfully informative and personal read. I highly recommend this book to anyone.

It is an attempt to integrate my interpretive and popular articles on research in the psychol ogy of music which have more or less direct bearing on the problem of esthetics. Each chapter has appeared in whole or in part in some leading musical, scientific, or educational journal. Since the book opens a large variety of new fields of thought and investigation, the reader is advised to turn to the table of contents for a preliminary orientation by deliberate examination VI PREFACE of the listings of specific topics where he can identify familiar items and new items in which he may be interested. In collecting this material I have aimed to organize these articles into a unified series while retaining as far as possible the original form and setting, whether used in whole or in part or assembled under a single group heading. Well, I was really blown away by this book, which seems to cover more things than I could have conceived! Well written, easy to understand, numerous drawings for us visual people so we have no doubt about what is being discussed, and a sense of humor too.

Although the book is over 200 pages in length, it was a quick read because of the easy format and interesting history behind why we do what we do when it comes to gesturing.

And for me, it brought back memories of places I have traveled to, and customs encountered. For instance, in India when the people you are talking to want you to know that they agree with you or that they are listening to you, they bob/nod their head quickly back and forth, left to right. At first you think they are indicating "no" or disagreeing with you. Had I bought the book before that trip, I wouldn't have been so confused!

Highly recommend this to anyone who travels a lot or for someone who just has an interest in customs around the world.

This book is good to read in general terms as it attempted to explain the gestures from all around the world. Sometimes, it's amusing to read & at times, I would be loss for words as what I thought was the right things to do in certain countries is actually considered as rude or obscene. Perhaps, it's the kind of book that you can read in the plane or just as a matter of interest. The presentation is rather text book-ish with bullet points, occasional pictures to ease readers' boredom, something like a PowerPoint presentation. I guess that denotes the writer's background being a prominent guest speaker.

This is a nice book. If you are going to travel abroad or you meet foreign people, you would like to know what these people understand from your body language. Of course, the book also gives you good material for chatting with friends from anywhere (including your own coutry).

Don't expect the book to tell you what a gesture means in every part of the world or to show you every gesture used in some part of the world. The book of course doesn't do such a hard task, though it tries: it explains you the gestures that are generalized (or most common) in a country. However, be always aware that there are exceptions and gestures you should know and are not included in the book.

Below are some questions you'll answer reading the book. In some cases the book gives you also the explanation about the gesture (what it comes from).

Where should you avoid the "OK sign"?
Where should a man enter before a woman?
Why Latin people get closer to you when talking?
How should you bow in Japan?

I was drawn to this book orginally because of my love of disc golf and I was intrigued about a published book that not only was written by a fellow golfer but also featured the sport. However, I learned the book was more about running a resort than the sport of disc golf but I also learned that the book was well-written and tells a wonderful story. I also learned I will probably never run my own business but also appreciate the owner of my company (a small family business) more now.

Mrs. Cozzens story is hard to put down and will be a favortie of anyone who enjoys a good story of any genre. It moves briskly along and you begin to feel like one of the family. As an ironic twist this book would be perfect for reading on the Sandy Point Beach during your week's stay in one of the cabins.

Mrs. Cozzens, if you read this review, I ask you to please find time to write another book (If you already have I apologize but please tell me what the title is) and tell all of us more about life at Sandy Point and Tuscon, or maybe you can write the book which truly does justice to the disc golf world and makes that world more accessible to everyone.

My husband and I are thinking of owning a B&B. Making the move from private practice as a holistic practitioner and a product creator/manufacturer for my website [...], I wanted to get someone's firsthand experience at dealing with the public when that public-on-your-property and no-privacy is your source of income. Michele's story is wonderful, insightful, amusing, and a quick-read. We live in Wisconsin so we are fully aware of the hardships of winter and of living in the northwoods, but we are also aware of the beauty of nature. Whereas this really didn't address my questions about B&B ownership in specific, it gave me insight as to employee issues and the liberties that customers take. It certainly gave me fodder for thought and more study before we venture forward. It's a great read!

If you have ever wondered what it would be like to own and operate a resort in the northwoods, then this is the book for you. The warmth and humor that Michele Cozzens puts into this book made it fun to read and difficult to put down. Michele shows us that you can live your dream life, but it will take a lot of work and determination to get there. I enjoyed this book very much and I think you will too.

Interesting and occasionally profound.......2005-01-12

Overall, this book is a collection of essays having something to do with the environment and the Church of Jesus Christ (Mormon). If you're not Mormon you won't get a lot of the allusions to religion. However, there are plenty of essays mostly on environment or how family, community, and spirituality are tied up with environment.

Some of the essays are from critics of the Mormon church and some may be put off by these essays. Many of the essays are from Mormon authorities like Vaughn Featherstone or High Pinnock. Quite a few Utah politicians write about environment also.

The essays are quite uneven. Some are deeply intellectual;others are emotional. A few times I finished and essay and wondered what I had just read. But usually I finished an essay with a greater appreciation of this beautiful world we live in.

If I had to give a theme to this book it would be stewardship - that is, the idea that God gave us this beautiful world to care for and not to destroy and abuse. And as I watch the Utah I knew and loved turn into tract housing and fill with cars and people and smog, I think that many of us are not being wise stewards.

One criticism would be not including any conservative viewpoints. Congressman Hansen or Bishop ought to be in here. And writers who live on the land like ranchers, miners and the like. They too have a land ethic and excluding them so completely leaves a large gap.

In general, I commend the editors Terry Williams (Author of Refuge), William Smart (former Deseret News editor), and publisher Gibbs Smith.

Spend your money on environmental writing with substance........2000-04-21

Mediocre, with a few moments of good writing, but the entire theme is contrived. Spend your money on real environmental writing, for example Paul Shepard and Jerry Mander.

Thought provoking and spiritually stimulating. For anyone........1999-03-07

Although the contributors to this book are all Mormons the plea they make is universal. Our ties to God's creations are real. We derive emotional and spiritual strength from them. The earth is given to us as a stewardship from God, to use, but also to protect and "replenish". The contributors cite personal examples to explain their interpretation of this "stewardship." I recommend this book!
