Book Description

Egypt’s most famous king died at the age of eighteen, and in the three thousand years since his death, the fabulous treasure buried with the young ruler has become as famous as his name. It has long been assumed that Tutankhamun died of natural causes, yet his hurried burial, first in a virtually unmarked grave, suggests there may have been an attempt, or plot, to conceal the evidence of fatal head wounds. Behind King Tut’s calm death mask, Doherty uncovers a turbulent tale of bloody intrigues at the Egyptian court, most of them pointing to the possibility of murder. The powerful cabal that ran the court and governed the country might have had young Tutankhamun assassinated; or he might have been killed at the instruction of the imperious first minister, Ay, who sought to seize the pharaonic crown for himself. And what role did the beautiful Ankhesenamun, Ay’s granddaughter and Tutankhamun’s queen, play in the labyrinthine courtly scheming? Coupling modern research with the original testimony of Howard Carter, the archaeologist who discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb, Doherty reconstructs a scenario of the king’s short reign as illuminating as the revelations regarding his sudden, mysterious death are fascinating. Color photographs are included.

5 out of 5 stars Another Insight into the Life and Death of King Tut.......2006-11-21

Paul Doherty is the consummate professional when it comes to writing historical novels. I for one do not know how he can be so prolific with his offering of books and yet make sure that each of them is well researched. Whether they be 13th, 14th, or fifteenth century they are always true to the period. He also writes about Ancient Egypt and now he has taken to writing about Alexander the Great. Paul Doherty has the rare talent of making you feel as though you are there, be it medieval England, or battling with Alexander. The sounds and smells of the period seem to waft from the pages of his books.

With this book Doherty proves that he is a scholar as well as a writer of novels and is a must for anyone interested in Tutankhamun or Egyptology in general. Ever since that day in 1922 when Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon looked through into the tomb of the boy Pharaoh, the world has never tired of hearing tales about him and looking at the fabulous artefacts that were carefully removed from the tomb in the valley of the kings.

Tutankhamun was only a very young man when he died mysteriously. Even with the lower life expectancy at that time he should have reigned for many more years. Was his death an accident, or was he murdered by people who opposed his rule? With the use of modern technology more and more clues are coming to light about the life and death of the young Pharaoh. This book offers new clues and highlights that intrigue that was going on at the Egyptian court at the time of Tutankhamun's death.

2 out of 5 stars How many books about the murder of Tut is too many?.......2005-02-22

Poor King Tut! His death has now been reenacted in countless novels and at least two television specials. Doherty's book, as another reader has noted, is unscholarly, but in many ways no more so that Bob Brier's very similar book "The Murder of tutankhamen", and "Who Killed King Tut?: Using Modern Forensics to Solve a 3300-Year-Old Mystery" by Michael R. King, Gregory M. Copper, Don DeNevi, Joann Fletcher, GREGORY M. COOPER. The problem with all of these books is that they stretch the subject matter out to the breaking point, while most of the authors have no direct access to the body of the deceased king.

1 out of 5 stars Yet Another Unscholarly Potboiler on Tutankhamun.......2004-01-23

We would never allow nondoctors to write medical treatises (one hopes, anyway); yet non-scholars who write on ancient Egypt in general, and Tutankhamun (or the El-Amarna epoch) in particular, are truly a dime a dozen in every respect. This book is on a par with Bob Brier's "thriller" on the putative murder of Tutankhamun. Ignorance of Egyptian language and history are outstanding here, the constant capitalization of epithets (real and imaginary--mostly imaginary)creates a hysterical tone, and the last chapter (fictional) is simply grotesque. One wonderful howler is that there are two references to "iced melon"--where would the Egyptians procure (and keep) ICE, of all things? Please, if you want delightfully readable AND absolutely accurate treatments of Tutankhamun, read "Akhenaten" and "The Complete Tutankhamun," both by Nicholas Reeves, and skip this overwrought mess. Oh, and one last thing--as genuinely interesting (if quite unprovable) as it may be to speculate that Tutankhamun had Marfan's syndrome, it is as silly to say that the many images of the King seated show that he was physically weak as to say (citing an old joke here)that Walter Cronkite had no legs because you never saw him standing.

4 out of 5 stars A good book marred by editing problems.......2003-01-11

I have read and much enjoyed P.C. Doherty's books of Ancient Egytptian historical fiction, so I thought I'd read this "scholarly" volume.

Doherty makes some excellent points in his explanation of Tut's death. I especially liked his opinion on whether or not Tut was murdered, which is much different from the view presented in Bob Brier's "Murder of Tutankhamun." I recommend reading both books as it is interesting to see the different conclusions drawn using the same physical evidence.

What I did not like was that this book was not edited very well. There are several typos and some awkward sentences (clauses piled upon clauses.) Also, the 4th chapter is extremely repetitive of points made earlier in the book.

And finally, the 5th chapter is a complete work of fiction built around historical events. Though I like historical fiction, it doesn't belong in a book where Doherty has previously discussed historical fact. Were I not aware of Doherty's previous works of fiction, I would wonder where this chapter came from.

This book is worth reading, but does have some minor flaws.

Book Description

Poverty row horror films were usually inexpensively (some would say cheaply) produced with writing that ranged from bad to atrocious. Yet these movies with their all-star horror casts (Carradine, Lugosi, Karloff, et al.) and their ape men, mad monsters, devil bats and white zombies still have a loyal audience 50 years after their release.

Essays contain full filmographic data on the 31 horror chillers made by the three studios from 1940 through 1946 and are arranged by year of release. Each entry includes the date of release, length, production credits, cast credits, interview quotes, and a plot synopsis with critical commentary. Filmographies for prominent horror actors and actresses, from John Abbott to George Zucco, are provided in the appendices.

5 out of 5 stars BRINGING LIGHT TO THESE LITTLE KNOWN FILMS.......2005-12-15

Poverty Row films make today's direct-to-video films look like "A" features. Shot on the tiniest of budgets and often completed in a matter of a few weeks, these films were the bottom of the barrel in 1940's Hollywood and yet somehow many have survived to considered cult classics in the horror genre, This is largely due to the stars of these cut-rate cheapies such as Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, George Zucco, and others.

Tom Weaver, perhaps the foremost expert on these films is the man behind this fantastic book detailing all 31 poverty row horrors produced by Republic, Monogram, and PRC studios. The 31 films are listed in order of release date beginning with "Boys of the City" in 1940 and ending with "Spookbusters" in 1946, both East Side Kids/Bowery Boys films. For each film Weaver provides complete cast and credits, run time, release date, and a lengthy plot synopsis. Weaver gives his expert analysis of each film as well as informative anecdotes. Snippets from reviews of the day are also included.

Among the films featured are: "The Ape", Boris Karloff's only true poverty row film shot in just one week. This gem must be seen to be believed. One can only imagine how the distinguished and proper Karloff must have felt parading around inside a gorilla suit.

Of course the king of poverty row was Karloff's rival Bela Lugosi. Lugosi did nine of these low-budget offerings including "The Devil Bat", "Invisible Ghost", "Black Dragons", "The Ape Man" and "The Corpse Vanishes". One can only feel for Lugosi who needed the work and always gave his fullest in every performance no matter how ridiculous the script was. In an appendix, Weaver along with other luminaries such as Forrest Ackerman, Joe Dante, and Gary Svehla of Midnight Marquee magazine rate all of Lugosi's poverty row films and give their opinions on his best...and worst!

One of my favorite films that Weaver covers is "King of the Zombies" which was intended to star Lugosi as the evil Nazi doctor but he was already committed to another film. Great black character actor, wide-eyed Mantan Moreland steals the show hands down and deservedly, is the only one in the cast who gets good mention for his comedic performance.

Other films in the book are George Zucco vehicles "Fog Island", "Dead Men Walk" and the "Mad Monster". The book also spotlights some of the truly little known poverty row horrors: "Strangler of the Swamp", "The Face of Marble", `The Girl who Dared" and more.

Weaver brings his vast knowledge and intelligent writing to this book. He never fails to surprise me with interesting notes about films and their stars.

5 out of 5 stars good read! worth waiting for a reprinting!.......2004-04-08

Great film reviews and data about these low budget horror films. Good writing, detailed plot summaries and detailed facts. These movies often had far out plots and bad acting, but Mr. Weaver gives them credit where due (original monsters, better than usual direction, or original premises). He also tells of the dizzying heights of absudity they reach . Really good write-ups and highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Weaving Gold from Poverty.......2000-10-14

Tom Weaver does good horror history. Fifty years hence, anyone doing a history of the Horror Film will find himself resorting agan and again to the ouvre of Thomas Weaver. Besides his numerous and valuable Interview books as well as his groundbreaking work in UNIVERSAL HORRORS, Weaver has undertaken an important task in writing about the Poverty Row Horror films produced by Republic, Monogram and PRC. As usual for Weaver, the book is methodical and well written. While also an entertaining and informative read, the book will probably be the definitive research tool for the films covered and the studios discussed for the foreseeable future. As "poverty row" productions, there was some danger of these films "falling through the cracks" and vanishing into the mists of time but, through the auspices of Weaver, the films have not merely been saved but canonized. And, with Weaver, one knows that POVERTY ROW HORRORS is accurate. An excellent book with the only flaws being the brevity that Weaver handles such important films like NABONGA and WHITE PONGO.

5 out of 5 stars It is the book that inspired my name!.......1999-11-10

That this book should be out of print is a travesty. Synposis of 31 "horror" films from PRC, Monogram and Republic are mixed with behind the scenes info, anectdotes and factoids that make this a true necessity for the low budget 40's horror fan. Additional appendices provide info on music, filmographies, "borderline" films and "experts" ranking of the major Monogram entries.

If you are looking to make some sense of this whole subprime market data, this book is for you. This is a great foundation book. This book is ideally for someone who knows a bit about the business already. I would not advise purchasing this book if you are unfamiliar with the business. There is a lot of jargon that may not be understood.

Nevertheless, this book is an excellent resouce. It touches on everything you ever wanted to know about the CDO market and then some.
This book is NOT for the expert on CDO. This is more for the afficionado.

          Enjoy!!! :o)

Ms. Goodman's book is a much needed resource on CDOs. If you are just learning about the CDO market, Ms. Goodman clearly defines key terms and explains the structures from beginning to end. Those with extensive Wall Street experience will enjoy having one of the few well-written references available in the market. It is also a good marketing tool to give to potential investors. This is a good comprehensive reference guide.

1 out of 5 stars Ridiculous and outrageous accusation by an idiot reviewer.......2004-01-07

The reviewer below suggests that Moorad Choudhry has posted a negative review of this book. To him/her I say this: Moorad Choudhry did not write it. I did. Mr Choudhry actually has a very high opinion of this book, and recommended to me I buy it when I attended a Bloomberg seminar he lectured at a few months ago. "Buy the new Goodman/Fabozzi book on CDOs, its excellent" he told me.
Well I did buy it, but I do not share his enthusiasm for it. It is totally US-centric and has no detail on European transactions.
However, the reviewer below, under internet anonymity, and with no proof whatsoever, decides that any negative reviewes must be written by Mr Choudhry. I am sure that were he to know his identity, Mr Choudhry would instruct his lawyers to sue this spineless, gutless idiot for libel and slander.
Get real, whoever you are. I bought the book and I do not like it. You throw around baseless accusations on Amazon, you have no proof, no clue and no idea. Just because you like the book is no reason for someone else to. And Mr Choudhry did not write that 1-star review, I did. So stop making up ridiculous accusations.

5 out of 5 stars Great book on CDOs - personally recommended.......2004-01-02

I have no hesitation in recommonding this as a great book on CDOs. I have bought a copy myself and it is very impressive. Moorad Choudhry.

          5 out of 5 stars Essential Reference.......2003-11-15

It seems oddly convenient that a negative review of the late Marcia Stigum's book, The Money Market, recommends The Repo Handbook by Moorad Choudhry. Ms. Goodman's book has a similar title to a book he has coming out and has been attacked with one star reviews that seem very similar to the attacks on books with similar titles and on Ms. Stigum's book. The envy is easy to understand, since this clearly written book with pleasing type-face is selling well and is a valuable resource.

Don't miss the chance to buy this excellent reference work on collateralized debt obligations.

Drawn from more than 150 hours of taped interviews by authors Stephen G. Michaud and Hugh Aynesworth, CONVERSATIONS WITH A KILLER takes readers inside the mind of an infamous sex criminal (one of the best-known serial killers of the past 100 years). In these timeless and unique interviews, Bundy gives both law enforcement professionals and the general public a close look at how this special breed of criminal thinks and behaves.

          2 out of 5 stars Can't Recommend It.......2007-06-25

I found this little number in my local used bookstore. Having been fascinated with Ted Bundy over the last couple of years but yet to read anything in depth about him, I bought it, hoping to learn something new.

Unfortunately, "Conversations With A Killer"'s biggest flaw is Bundy himself. I feel really bad for Michaud and Aynesworth; they honestly try to write a ground-breaking book about the case, and Bundy promises them before the interviews that he will reveal to them "the truth about everything." How could any print journalist say no? Rather than embarking on the horizon of a new look at Ted Bundy, however, the duo are instead treated to interview after interview of Bundy whipping them around this way and that, never once giving them the kind of information they need.

After initially being asked point-blank about his whereabouts during the crimes he is committed of and clamming up immediately, Bundy is instead offered the ability to speak of these crimes in the third-person, freeing him from self-incrimination. Instead of offering any new outlooks, however, Bundy dances about, choosing to "speculate" about the killer's mental workings and treating us to paragraph after paragraph of half-baked, psycho-analytical noodlings. I'm surprised Michaud and Aynesworth didn't fall asleep while interviewing him; when Bundy's not pumping his side of the testimony full of mostly-nonsensical, winding explanations of the "killer's" mindset, he chooses to be very vague about his choice of words, offering a lot of "could be" and "might have been that, also might have been this" and "I don't know". And, of course, he denies absolutely everything about his involvement in these crimes, standing infuriatingly adamant about his innocence all the while. Michaud and Ayneworth ask him numerous times about his whereabouts during crimes or about the testimony of witnesses, and Bundy is rarely ever able to give them an answer, either sidestepping the question and weaseling his way into another subject, or simply refusing to answer at all.

The book does have a few positive marks, as few as they are. The first few chapters of the book do offer a decent, albiet selective, history of Bundy from youth to the (then) present, revealing an education in words passed on by his mother, crippling shyness during high school, and his strange fetish with socks. Also detailed are his struggles with bi-polar disorder, using his escape from jail in Glenwood Springs as a compelling example. Lastly, one can glimpse some truths behind Bundy's words, including the dangerous influences that both "stress" and pornography had on his transformation into a serial killer. However, while these are great tidbits for a newcomer to Bundy's persona, they're not nearly enough to provide one with a fulfilling look at the man and his life & doings.

As for Michaud and Aynesworth, they humble Bundy at the beginning and are eager to try new approaches, but as the book is chronological, it is easy to grasp their growing impatience with Ted's mind games. Aynesworth gets especially agitated, and his multiple outbursts of anger at Bundy (only to be met with smiles, jokes, denial, irritation, and sidestepping on Bundy's end) are by far the most interesting parts of the book. And that's got to be a sad statement: that the anger of one of the authors at the subject of the book is ultimately more interesting than the sum of the book's parts.

I can't really recommend it. Only those truly interested in Ted Bundy or the way his mind works could grasp much enjoyment out of it. Much of the book will just bore you to tears. An interesting first look at Bundy, it proved to be a vastly unfulfilling one for me, and I hope that Ann Rule's "The Stranger Beside Me" will prove to be much better. Good luck next time, Steve and Hugh.

          2 out of 5 stars A big let-down.......2006-05-25

Pages and pages of verbatim interviews with a megalomaniac, even one as twisted as Ted Bundy, get dull after a while. It would be a necessary reference book for anybody writing a doctoral thesis on Bundy or the psychopathic mind, but really holds little interest for the average reader.

3 out of 5 stars TED BUNDY SPEAKS ABOUT THE PATHOLOGY OF THE KILLER INSTINCT.......2005-10-11

Ted Bundy murdered over 30 women in the late 70's and has a kind of cult status among people who are obsessed with serial killers and voilence, which is not why I read this book. I read this book because I was hoping it would shed light on a problem which seems to be a product of modern American society.
The First half of this book is very interesting. Ted creates a hypothetical psychological model of a killer and in the third person describes how this person developed from a regular guy with deep emotion issues into a full fledged mass murder. That part of the book is very frightening and thought provoking. Ted describes the killer's initial fascination with alcohol and violent pornography. From there he describes the slow progress of the killer instict: how his trips to the pornographic book stores became more frequent and urgent, how he spent a year spying in women's house before almost attacking a woman one night, followed months later by an actual attack, then a rape and killing. He also describes the killer's remorse between killings and his frequent promises that this would be the last one.
Toward the middle of the book it gets pretty boring. The second interviewer takes over and keeps trying to get Ted to admit his guilt, which he won't do. Most of the answers in this half of the book are evasive and tiringly repetitive.
It is redeemed in the last interview in which Ted makes some rather interesting statements about how it is our society which creates the serial killer. He also talks about how this a problem which manifests itself rather early in the life of these sick men,and what's even more frightening, he states that for every man arrested for multiple homicide there are five or six more that are not caught. With a little money, Ted states, a man can kill indiscriminately for the rest of his life without fear of detection. This book is a must read for anyone interested in Abnormal Psychology.

3 out of 5 stars Blah blah blah.......2005-06-11

First, I want to say that I love Ted Bundy and reading anything about him. That's why this book got 3 stars instead of maybe 1 or 2. From everything else I've read about him, this is nothing new. And the way it's presented is so BORING. You can see how manipulative Ted is in his monologues which are often verbose. A lot of times he doesn't make much sense.

If you've read a lot about Ted Bundy, I wouldn't recommend this book. The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule is a much better book. I guess if it's your first time reading about him, it might be interesting.

          5 out of 5 stars Great Information.......2004-01-02

Stephen G. Michaud ,again, has done an outstanding job in writting a great book about Bundy.

There ARE some new insights not seen in other books regarding Bundy's crimes (Like details of Naslund's and Ott's murders, and some insight on Donna Manson's fate.

Bundy spent the next 10 years on Florida's Death Row, using legal tactics to delay his execution and offering confessions to his crimes in exchange for a reprieve. After years of living in denial - insisting he was innocent - Bundy finally came clean, although he referred to himself in the third person and claimed the killings were carried out by an "entity" within him.

He said he became obsessed by hardcore pornography involving sado-masochism and bondage and said he enjoyed the feeling of being in complete control of his victims. He said the primary motive was rape and that he had to kill the victims to prevent them testifying against him.

3 out of 5 stars Did not fulfill my expectations!.......2007-06-24

Okay, you are invited to interview and converse with one of the most deadly serial killers in American History, Theodore Robert Bundy. While I was interested in his background especially his family life and his paternity which might have solved some questions about his genetic composition. Except for when he discusses about possession of items like the television or the stereo that he admits to stealing like a game, do we get to understand his problems. He doesn't know how to relate to people even his devoted wife, Carole, girlfriend like Liz, even his family members like his mother or stepfather. He never really identifies or understands human behavior. Just like the television and stereo, he needs to possess somebody particularly a woman but dead. The book doesn't discuss the necrophilia that drew Ted into placing his victims' heads and other body parts in certain areas because like the Green River Killer, Ted visited them and I won't go any further than that. Even in the prison system, he was embarrassed by his necrophilia which probably would place him lowest scale on the prison system hierarchy even below child molesters since he did murder a 12 year old girl. Not enough mentions of the victims that Ted took away and there were probably a lot more that we don't know about because Ted was slick, mobile, and perfected his set-up in luring his victim like a predator catching his prey and rendering them unconscious and murdering them but maintaining their body parts for his own pleasure at the risk of torturing family members, relatives, friends, and neighbors from continuing their search for their loved ones.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting yet, disappointing.......2006-10-26

This book was slightly a let down, due to no fault of the author. If I had no expectations, it probably would've been very good, but who doesn't have expectations? Especially when they are getting ready to read Ted Bundy's own words, a window into his psyche? But, it's not just the reader who is frustrated with Bundy's hesitant and evasive dialogue. The author, too, voices those same sentiments through the book. Unfortunately, it is not, as I had hoped, some interesting view into the mind of a mad man. But, I suppose I was hoping for the answer to the ever present question of 'why?'. There are no whys here. There are hows, whos, whats and whens, but Bundy will not speak in the first person. He couches everything in the protective cocoon of hypothetical situations, so you aren't exactly sure if he is really telling the truth, or just leading you on. You get a very solid sense of his narcicism, and a disturbing view of his normalcy. While we all hope to see a monster reflected in the page, something recognizable as wrong or dangerous, his words don't ooze evil, and it is easy to see how he was able to fool so many unfortunates. It is an interesting book, and I would still recommend it, but read it with a grain of salt already on your tongue. If you go into it with the wrong idea, it feels anticlimactic.

3 out of 5 stars Informative, yet not as exciting as I had hoped.......2006-07-14

But perhaps this is what would happen when you are reading a sociopath's thoughts. I actually thought it would be more interesting, more first hand, but you find through reading this account, that he still can't admit to himself what he has done. While it allows you to understand the "beast" of being a serial killer, it isn't as gripping to read and descriptive as I hoped it would. I do recommend this book if your interested in Ted bundy, or just interested in the killer mind. It won't be what you think.

2 out of 5 stars Nothing modern about this book........2004-01-25

This book concentrates primarily on the mercenary of the 1960's. Even when this book was published, it by no means concentrated on the modern mercenary.

Nowadays it's all corperations, from MPRI and Sandline. I don't even think the book mentioned the now defunct South African firm, Executive Outcomes.

It's a fantastic historical read if you want to know about Mad Mike Hoare. For that it's worth it.

Another good book about a mercenary is called Soldier Without Fortune, by Dr. John L. McLure, who served in Nicaragua in 1983. It's hard to find, but it's good solid read. The good doctor is dead now, but he did leave behind a fantastic story.

Good book, but the scope is tilted toward the view of the mercenary. Does explain a lot though.

                    Book Description

How can caring Christians approach Islam? As relations between Islam and the West grow more polarized, many Christians are nervous about meeting Muslims. How can we possibly overcome years, if not centuries, of mistrust?Christine Mallouhi, who married into a Muslim family and has lived much of her life in the Middle East, suggests we should emulate St. Francis, who during the Crusades went to be with the Muslims and even shared the gospel with the Sultan. We should start by seeing Muslims as people, she suggests. "When Muslims are skeptical of our creed, confused by our message and wounded by our warfare, the most credible witness left is our lives. Muslims need to see Jesus, and the only way most of them will see him is in us." Here is a book that gives history, insight and much of the author's own story in offering the Prince of Peace to Muslims.

This book will go a long way towards helping the West understand the Middle-East from religious perspectives. I learned a tremendous amount and have been able to apply a lot of it. It was very, very eye openning and I believe should be read by especially by Christians who want a balanced view Christian-Muslim issues. It dealt with history, culture, and faith inter-twining the three to give a comprehensive picture. Bob Roberts - Author Glocalization & Transformation

                    5 out of 5 stars Refreshing Perspective!.......2006-10-02

Amidst escalating tensions between Christians and Muslims, this book presents a refreshing perspective. Fanaticism and stereotyping abound on both sides, yet Christine Mallouhi urges her readers to see people as people, complete with names, parents, kids, siblings, extended families and life stories. And, she supplies plenty of examples taken from her own life story as an Australian evangelical Protestant who has spent the majority of her life in North Africa and the Middle East married to a Muslim disciple of Jesus Christ. If you think that last statement is an Oxymoron, read the book.

As the title indicates, Mallouhi's book targets Christians and proposes peace, love and grace as infinitely preferable to fear, hatred and bigotry when dealing with Muslims. Especially poignant is the insight Mallouhi gives into the plight of the Palestinians, one of the least understood groups of people on earth.

Mallouhi is no Pollyanna and freely acknowledges the existence of Islamic terrorists, though she contends they are a small minority. Her point is that beneath the cultural and religious differences most Muslims are just people like you and me. She also informs us that many Muslims have the same difficulty of seeing Christians beyond their own stereotypes, including several centuries of Christian terrorists who ravished the Middle East during the Crusades. Sadly, even today there are right-wing fundamentalist Christians who probably would love to establish a "Christian Taliban."

The thread that ties the book together is the example of St. Francis of Assisi. The chapter title "The Mad Monk" informs the reader that Mallouhi is well aware of Francis' numerous and well-documented eccentricities and excesses. You may wonder what St. Francis is doing in a Protestant book on the need for an attitude adjustment toward Muslims, but the ploy works well and adds an interesting historical dimension to the book.

The strength of the book is Mallouhi's lifetime of personal experience. Some of her experiences and commentaries will challenge many evangelical readers and stretch them far beyond their personal comfort zones. You do not have to agree with all of her viewpoints to benefit greatly from reading Waging Peace on Islam. I have already recommended it to several people and will continue to do so.

5 out of 5 stars An eye opener for an Evangelical!.......2006-07-03

Christine spends a great deal of time passionately and methodically explaining why our stereotypes of the situations and problems in the Middle-east are wrong. She very clearly articulates that the issues in Palestine are not simply Jew versus Muslim, but also include the dwindling population of Christians, who are also Palestinian! This book is a must read if you want to see behind the cleverly managed and manipulated media presentations of current events so that you can formulate viewpoints and positions based on reality. If you care more about being a follower of Jesus than merely a creature of culture called a "christian", read this book.

                        Book Description

This book brings together for the first time biological and social scientists with the expertise necessary to document the ways in which the economic value of neotropical wildlife can affect conservation. The contributors, who have done extensive research in Latin America, explore the importance of wildlife to people, the impact of the use of wildlife on animal populations, and whether the present pattern of human use is—or could be made—sustainable.
