5 out of 5 stars This is a great book for all ages........1999-02-05

There is a nice informal picture of Prince Charles, Princess Diana, and Prince William on the front cover. On the inside cover and the next page is a family tree of Prince William's relatioship within the British Royal Family and with the Royal Families of Europe. The Prince of Wales' coat of arms which Prince William will inherit when he assumes he title.

I have had this book since its publication, I have read it many times, and I have looked at its beautiful pictures so many times. I've really never paid much attention to Prince William's horoscope which was written at the time of his birth by John Naylor, President, Federeration of British Astrologers.

The following is taken from the horoscope : "... Conservative in thought and basically cautious in action, though not without strong prejudices too. These qualities will be combined with an uncanny intuition which will enable him to read minds, anticipate actions.

"...he has a good share of courage, ambition, aggression and physical vitality, quite a temper, and a vein of foolhardiness...

"...Prince William's horoscope has the hallmark of monarchy, whereas his father Prince Charles' lacks this distinctive feature, as did King Edward VIII, the Duke of Windsor's.

"A good I.Q. and a useful academic ability is indicated, but it is an intellect which is imaginative and artistic, which inclines toward idealism and perfectionisim, rather being pragmatic, anaytical or rational...His ready sympathies and his emotionalism make him a romantic, gullible, susceptible to flattery, a 'good fellow.'

"Prince William has an affinity for the sea...Yet, more than most members of the royal family, he has intellectual capabilities. He leans towards being an academic...he could develop an interest in constitutional law...

"Not only because he is a prince, but because he has great charm, is sensitive, sympathetic and responsive as well as being full of vitality, he will wreak havoc with feminine hearts...

" The astrological picture is therefore of an affectionate, sensitive yet lively child, courageous, and possessing a vein af aggression which will flare from time to time. He will need and demand, a lot of affection and attention, being prone to vivid emotional affection and approval.

"...In maturity he will have a vigorous, active dispostion and will be capable of becoming a considerable stateman, combining keen intuition and a feel for public mood and reaction with a useful capacity for leadship...

"...Yet the most interesting indication in regard to Prince William's future occurs in the late 1980's. Both he and his mother, the Princess of Wales, are Cancer subjects...Different but comparable indications occur in the horoscopes of the other principal royals, the Queen, Prince Philip, and Prince Charles. Royal stars suggest that the second half of the 1980's the winds of change will blow through the royal corridors; the younger generation, Prince William amongst them, coming into greater prominence. Happenings in the summer of 1985 will set this trend into motion."

I included these excerpts because I believe that are most interesting in view of all that's happened to Prince William in his short life.

Shortly before dawn a royal-blue Rover police car proceeded out of the gates of Kensington Palace and sped towards Paddington to St. Mary's Hospital. There were only four people in the car - the chauffeur, the personal detective, Prince Charles, and his twenty-year-old wife. Shortly after five o'clock Diana, Princess of Wales, was admitted to the Lido Wing. For once in her twenty-one months in the glare of publicity, there was not a photographer in sight. However, it was not to reamin this way for long. By the time Buckingham Palace released the news of the princess' arrival, there was a continous, steady stream of well wishers and onlookers. By ten o'clock the fist flowers had arrived.

Within the hour after the birth of Prince William, Buckingham Palace made its official announcement. However, the news traveled faster by mouth. There were tremendous choruses of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" and chant variations on a footbal theme of - "Nice One Charlie-Give Us Another One."

The crowds began to swell in anticipation of Prince Charles' emergence. I can remember watching TV and wondering if he were ever going to come outside. Of course, when he emerged, it was the first time he had been seen in public that day. There was lipstick on his cheek and soon there was more. He appeared to be extremely happy as he spoke of his first-born in glowing terms such as "beautiful" and "marvelous form" and he himself was "relieved and delighted" and duly impressed by the experience of attending the birth. With warmth and concern Prince Charles thanked everyone for their interest and concern. I was almost 11:30pm when the Prince left for home at Kensington Palace.

Anyone who was watching TV will never forget the Prince of Wales leaving the hospital the next day with the glamourous Princess and their baby prince. Prince William was the first direct heir to the Throne who was born in a hospital. Princess Diana could not wait to get him home. They certainly appear to be a radiantly happy couple as they leave the hospital with their small bundle of joy. picture p. 123

I hope there is a republication of this book so that those who don't have it will be able to puchase this beautiful book.

This book is a must for all who collect books on the Royal Family or just enjoy reading about them.

This refers to the hardback edition which was published in 1982 and measures 91/4x113/4 inches.

5 out of 5 stars A heartwarming, loving look at the boy born to be king........1997-10-25

This is a tender, loving look at Prince William and his royal heritage. There are plenty of color photographs of the royal family showing clearly the love of the proud parents as well as photographs of them as babies. This book will warm your heart and have you ooohing and aaahing within the first few pages. This is a must for anyone who is interested in the royals or anyone who loves babies. If each picture is worth a thousand words, then this book is priceless. It is a pure joy and holds the memories of a family which was dealt a tradgic, cruel blow.

5 out of 5 stars Bravo, Buskin. Bravo, Willy. Bravo, Publications Int'l.......2002-10-13

I live in England but, do you know, I've never followed the activities of the royal family. It's not always something special when you've grown up with it all your life, and they've done much to let themselves down in the past 20 years, the poor souls. So I've never followed Prince William and, really, know nothing about him. That is, I didn't until I read this book. I was at O'Hare airport in Chicago, flying back to England, when I saw it in at the bookstall. Something made me take it off the shelf - I've no idea to this day why - and it caught my interest as I flicked idly through the pages. I immediately liked the writing style - it's very descriptive, but not too much: it's artfully done. Why, for just a few bucks I got to learn more, much more than I ever thought I'd want to know about William. But I enjoyed it! It's quite a rollercoaster story, and an amusing though pretty accurate insight into British life and culture, written by one who should know - The author biography says that Mr Buskin "is a British journalist". It shows. (It also says that another of his books, about Princess Diana, was a New York Times bestseller. That must be one heck of a book - I'm already looking out for a copy.) I think Buskin must be a pretty savvy guy, and he certainly writes a witty line reminiscent of the British Carry On films. For example, I think he had tongue firmly in cheek when he wrote: "And so the stage was set: His naughtiness was about to evolve into Dreamboat Willy."

5 out of 5 stars This book is written for all ages........1999-02-02

The author promises to let the reader know: " Why William was know as 'Billy the Basher,' How he coped with his parents' troubled marriage, What he does for fun and excitement, Why his former nanny is now his closest friend, and How he feels about being popular with girls all over the world." Richard Buskin does accomplished these things. However, if one has kept up with the Royal Family, then, one know everything in the book and much more. Princes William possesses many more nicknames than just 'Billy the Basher.'

Despite this, the book is well-written which one can not say about many of the books written about Prince William. This book can be appreciated by adults and not just gushing teenagers who are crazy over Prince William. It's easy reading and can be easily read in an hour.

Richard Buskin has written several books about the Royal Family - Diana in particular.

Prince William has had to grow up rapidly considering the events which have taken place in his life. As everyone knows, the world is on the verge of a new millennium, and for William, the twenty-first century king, it appears to be there for the taking. There are many picture of Prince William from infancy to the present; however, there are no new ones.

Since the death of his mother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales, Prince William has grown into a mature young man, and whatever the future holds, the eyes of the world will certainly be on Prince William.

This is a paperback book which contains 159 pages and measures 4x63/4 inches.

              Book Description

The volume provides a broad range of materials and resources for the study of Fritz Lang's classic 1927 film Metropolis, including both well-known, previously-published critical essays and contributions appearing for the first time here. Lang's film has justifiably become an icon for the complexities of Weimar culture. Among the important general issues it also raises are the relation between ideology and art, the status and authorship of the film text in the entertainment market, the city, the construction of gender, the relation between the human body and the machine in modernity, and the relation between mass and high culture. Minden and Bachmann provide a two-part introduction which provides a context for what follows: Bachmann's part deals with the genesis, production, and contemporary reception of the film, while Minden's defines the problems posed by the text and reviews the solutions to these problems as proposed by later generations of critics. The first part of the book proper then provides selected contemporary reviews, commentary by Fritz Lang and others involved in the making of the film, and extracts from Thea von Harbou's original novel. In the second part, eight modern scholars provide fresh essays on the genesis, promotion, and reception of the film. Approximately half of the material in the volume has never before appeared in print. The volume will appeal to students of German, film, cultural and intellectual history, and social theory.Michael Minden is University Lecturer in German at Cambridge University and a fellow of Jesus College. Holger Bachmann received his Ph.D. from Cambridge on Arthur Schnitzler and film.

4 out of 5 stars his personal impressions are pretty interesting.......2001-09-22

Bronstein gives the scores of 200 of his open games - pretty much his entire practice, win, loss, and draw, including gm draws. With each, he gives a paragraph or two of what he finds of interest - a maneuver, a combination, a tournement situation, personalities, or whatever. there's not a lot of analysis, but there are a lot of ideas to be picked up. More than anything else, the book seems to be about personal attitude. I don't play open games any more, but I haven't been able to give up my copy.

                1 out of 5 stars AWFUL.......2001-01-20

Boring and awful. Worst chess book I have ever bought.

4 out of 5 stars A great book on the Open Game!.......1998-02-20

David Bronstein is one of the most colorful chess writers. This book is written in an odd style but is informative and fun! He covers almost every opening that contains (1. e4 e5): "The Open Game". The book is not burdened with analysis instead Bronstein gives a more subjective view of the players objectives. This is a "must have" for a king pawn player!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook on E-commerce.......2006-04-05

I just received the new edition of Laudon and Traver's textbook on e-commerce and think its just great! I previously used the 2nd edition, which I also loved, and this new edition lives up to its predecessor. It contains all new and updated information and is extremely current. Its so well-written that it doesn't read like a textbook at all. I highly recommend it to anyone interesting in learning about e-commerce.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but dated...........2005-11-26

I have used this textbook for several years - while it is a good basic source of information, it badly needs updating and supplementation in several important areas: RFID is not mentioned; Mobile/hand set E-Commerce is covered at a surface level, Search Engine and major Portal marketing needs updating, and much of the data are 3+ years old - very old given the rapid changes taking place.

If you are teaching an E-Commerce course from a Marketing perspective, with this book as the base, be prepared to suppement this textbook with books such as Spychips, and student subscriptions to WSJ or NY Times. Ad Age is another excellent supplementary information source.

This is one of the few areas in business where the textbook should be updated every 2 years.

Note from Spring 07 - the newer edition is better but still requires supplementation on areas auch as RFID and security.

This was a great buy, The book came in the indicated condition and has been a great help!

Good book, easy to read and informative. Gives a good overview of e-commerce and introduces you into the business giving you a historical perspective and good hints to develop you own site.

5 out of 5 stars Practical, Informative, and Interesting.......2005-07-06

This is a college level text book that is actually interesting. It is very well written and most importantly, it is NOT boring. It's amazing how easy it is to read such a large book in a short amount of time when the book is well written. You will be able to actually design and learn how to host your own E-Commerce web site after reading this book. And it's a lot less expensive than you might think. This book is expensive but well worth it with excellent print and illustrations. It's easy to see that a lot of work went into this gigantic hardbound masterpiece.

Is there an afterlife? Janice Hudson, who's seen her share of death, ventures an assuring yes in this memoir about her years as a trauma nurse.

In May 1987, newlywed intensive-care nurse Hudson was recruited to join a helicopter ambulance service and "fly out to accidents, scrape up the patients and try to get them to qualified care in that first 'golden hour,' when they'd have the best chance for meaningful survival after traumatic injuries." The possibilities for traumatic injury are, of course, legion. Hudson hits on the usual suspects: barroom brawls, failed suicide attempts, and grisly car wrecks. She also recounts what are likely to be some of the more unusual cases in the annals of emergency medicine, including a call from a woman who insisted that her mountaintop home was being overrun by an army of mountain lions (which turned out to be a single housecat, amplified thanks to the caller's diet of alcohol and crystal meth). Death is a constant in her pages (and death itself isn't so bad, she observes: "It's the circumstances that are tragic"). But so is Hudson's belief that something interesting awaits us afterward, as a few of her eerie anecdotes attest.

Doctors' and medical researchers' memoirs are many; those of nurses are comparatively few. Well written and thoughtful, Hudson's is a welcome addition to that small literature--though it's definitely not for the squeamish. --Gregory McNamee

                          Book Description

Trauma junkies are people who feed on danger and stress. They do their best work under pressure. Janice Hudson was an adrenaline-charged emergency room nurse in a San Francisco-area hospital when a friend told her about CALSTAR, a fledgling helicopter ambulance service with an opening for a flight nurse. Weeks later she was swooping over the Bay Area to scenes of shootings, accidents and disasters. The trauma junkie had found her element.

Hudson spent ten years as a flight nurse, answering calls that were by turns horrifying, heroic and absurd. She decries her personal flights from hell that involved children and drunk drivers. In this moving story, she recalls her triumphs, like the time she performed a surgical cricothyrotomy on a patient as he hung upside down in his overturned car -- in the dark. And she shakes her head at some of the bizarre calls, like the one that took her to the scene of a suspicious mountain lion attack (there are no mountain lions in the Bay Area). But no matter what the call, CALSTAR and its dedicated crew braved danger and hardship to reach the scene of catastrophe in a race against time to bring help to those whose only hope of survival lay in the speed of the helicopter and the skill of the medical crew.

A born storyteller, Janice Hudson writes with compassion, insight and wry humor. Trauma Junkie is an in-the-trenches account of emergency nursing at its most demanding.

I've always wondered what life was like for a flight nurse and this book describes all aspects very well. The responsibility is enormous.

5 out of 5 stars Telling It Like It Is.......2007-01-09

Janice Hudson writes about her experiences as a Flight Nurse in a manner that is personal and passionate. Her writing bridges the lay person's and the experienced health care provider's understanding of what it is like to work in Helicopter Emergency Medical Services. Although there have been many changes in HEMS, this book captures the spirit of providing critical care in an often harsh environment.
Ms. Hudson tells it like it is and the reader could be moved to tears reading about the successes and failures of trying to save lives.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing! Entertaining, touching, emotional, informative.......2006-06-29

I bought this book because I am in nursing school and personally aspire to be a flight nurse. This book was wildly entertaining as Janice Hudson's way of writing is very informal, descriptive and emotional. I particulary enjoyed this book because it takes place in the bay area with which I am very familiar. Two of my favorite memiors of her's are written about the '89 San Francisco earthquake and the '92 Oakland Hills fire - both of which offer a unique perspective only to be appreciated by reading her personal experiences. This book is a quick and easy read, never boring and often very informative with regards to the scope of practice in flight nursing. Highly recommended to anyone with an interest in EMS, prehospital medicine, or nursing.

What a great idea for a deep-dish tell-all! JFK's lonely, classy wife, Bobby's athletic, competitive wife, and Ted's meek, alcoholic wife, together at last between covers, soothing each other when not fighting like fishwives. Taraborrelli's breathless prose makes you a fly on the wall when formidable mother-in-law Rose Kennedy walks in on Joan commiserating with Ethel about their honeymoons: "I think Bobby was finished before I got into the room!" said Ethel. "Now what are you ladies talking about?" asked Rose. Jackie, who was present, cooed, "Oh, we were just saying how well Bobby sleeps at night." "He gets that from me," said Rose.

Ethel should never have been so catty when gentle, simple Joan joined the clan: "Goodbye wine and cheese," hissed Ethel. "Hello macaroni and cheese." And she shouldn't have mocked Jackie for being unable to compete in touch football--with the Kennedys, it was more like "claw, scratch and bite" football. And what about when she rubbed it in that she and Bobby were closer than Jackie and Jack? After all, when Lee Remick phoned Ethel to say "You're on the way out," and Ethel replied that Bobby was home in bed, Bobby was in fact (says Taraborrelli) in bed with Lee Remick.

You may have heard that JFK's dad, Joe Kennedy, offered Jackie $1 million not to divorce JFK, but did you hear Jackie's alleged reply? "The price goes up to $20 million if Jack brings home any venereal diseases." Did Ethel betray Jackie's discontent to Joe--and then go ballistic when Joe only gave Ethel $500,000? You'd think Joan would be the clinker in the group, like Zeppo Marx. She was a bit dim, but should Ted have put her down as dumb? He's the one who showed up soused with a prostitute for dinner with the king and queen of Belgium, whose priceless antique couch Ted's date ruined by wetting it.

                              Book Description

What a great idea for a deep-dish tell-all! JFK's lonely, classy wife, Bobby's athletic, competitive wife, and Ted's meek, alcoholic wife, together at last between covers, soothing each other when not fighting like fishwives. Taraborrelli's breathless prose makes you a fly on the wall when formidable mother-in-law Rose Kennedy walks in on Joan commiserating with Ethel about their honeymoons: "I think Bobby was finished before I got into the room!" said Ethel. "Now what are you ladies talking about?" asked Rose. Jackie, who was present, cooed, "Oh, we were just saying how well Bobby sleeps at night." "He gets that from me," said Rose.Ethel should never have been so catty when gentle, simple Joan joined the clan: "Goodbye wine and cheese," hissed Ethel. Jacqueline Bouvier. Ethel Skakel. Joan Bennett. Three women who married into America's royal family and became forever linked in legend. Set against the panorama of explosive American history, this unique story offers a rarely-seen look at the relationship shared among the three women -- during the Camelot years and beyond. Whether dealing with their husbands' blatant infidelities, stumping for their many political campaigns, touring the world to promote their family's legacy, raising their children, or confronting death, the Kennedy wives did it all with grace, style and dignity.

I Loved reading this book!! I recently saw the TV movie version, so I decided to read the book. I was SO impressed! I was 10 years old when Pres Kennedy was killed, so of curse I'm familiar with Camelot and all that goes along with it. Now that I'm in my 50's I thought I'd look for a book written in recent years about the Kennedy wives. I'm so glad I found this one! The last 66 pages! are devoted to "Acknowledgments and Source Notes", which I didn't read thoroughly, but now know this isn't just another made up Kennedy story, but Facts!

5 out of 5 stars Jackie Ethel Joan: Women of Camelot.......2007-08-17

This book is well worth reading more than once! It has so much information that I could hardly put it down!! You feel so very bad for Joan and what Teddy did to her. He was a very poor specimen for a husband and it is amazing she has managed to hold onto life. I don't know what the quality of it is now, but what she endured was truly unfair. My heart really goes out to her and now that Jackie is gone I can't imagine how she is doing.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting in a tabloid way.......2006-11-01

I really enjoyed reading this book because I am fascinated by that time in our history and with Jackie Kennedy. I found this book to have an interesting point-of-view on all three Kennedy women. Ethel seemed to be easily envious or jealous but loyal and loving of her family. Jackie seemed to be snobby with a mind of her own, but again a deep loyalty for her family especially her immediate family. Joan seemed to be sad and a 'door mat' until she grew much older. She seemed to put up with the most crap and lost the most in return. I have no idea if any of what I read was accurate or not, but I liked reading it regardless. It was fun and fast in a very tabloid sort of way. If you're interested in the Kennedy women, then you'll probably like this book. The movie that was made based on this book is also pretty good, but naturally the book is by far better with more details.

5 out of 5 stars Book you'll enjoy in a guilty pleasure sort of way!.......2006-03-07

Heard the cassette version of JACKIE, ETHEL, JOAN: WOMEN OF
CAMELOT by. J. Randy Taraborrelli and enjoyed it--in a guilty pleasure
                              sort of way.

It is a tell-it-all about the three Kenney wives and listening to it
helped me relive some days of my younger days when John, Robert
and Ted Kenney were alive and running for various political offices.

For some reason, I never followed too closely the dirt behind
their respective careers . . . yet this book more than made up for
                              anything I may have missed.

If everything in it is to be believed, I now know that Joe Kennedy
offered Jackie $1 million not to divorce JFK and Jackie allegedly
replied, "The price goes to $20 million if Jack brings home any
venereal diseases." . . . also, that Bobby had an affair with
actress Lee Remick who actually called Ethel to tell her that they
were sleeping together--only to be told by Ethel that he was
home in bed (when he was actually with Remick) . . . and that
Ted once showed up for drunk with a prostitute for dinner with
the king and queen of Belgium, whose priceless antique coach
Ted's date ruined by wetting it.

Overall, the book left me feeling sorry for the Kennedy women . . . although
they appeared so glorious from afar, how they were forced to live
their lives because of the constant spotlight made life anything
                              but easy for them.

4 out of 5 stars An insightful look behind the scenes.......2005-05-03

I found this to be a very intrigueing read, but the reader should have a working knowledge of the history, events and relationships that shaped the Kennedy dynasty because they are not going to be detailed in this book. In fact, some will be glossed over or entirely omitted. What you will read about is the experiences of those intimately involved in the events and tragedies: their personal thoughts, conversations and feelings, wrapped up in fierce political ambition and family loyalty.
Even though I'm sure the conversations and personal information, albeit based on substantial research, has been "developed", anyone who has experienced a family death or misfortune will easily relate to the Kennedys' amazing ordeals, struggles and fortitude.
                              I thoroughly enjoyed it.
