This is a wonderful book covering the career of one of the great racecar designers and builders of all time. I can't imagine how a better job could have been done with the subject in the same space. Many, many great photos illustrate this history and the text is first-rate.
Cool design, Cool topic.......2002-01-11
This is book full of cool pictures of cool cars. I really like these early roadsters, so I buy everything I can about them. I have to agree with the other review, though, the writing in this really is bad. There are so many cool pictures, though, that they make up for the writing. If you like roadsters and already know a good deal about them, buy the book. If you are a first timer looking for an introduction to the history, this one probably isn't for you.
Don't waste your time!.......2001-12-18
Too bad about this book....Great topic, some good pics, but the author just ran the subject into the ground. I don't think he could connect two thoughts if his life depended on it, so to make up for it, he simply spilled out every mundane detail he could dig out about Frank Kurtis and/or his cars. There is a lot of good primary stuff here, but the author did a lousy job of historiography in distilling it into a concise, engaging story.
The pictures COULD have been awesome, but they are not. Many look like they were photocopies or bad digitals that were reproduced. I am surprised the publisher even considered them...in any case, it contributed to the overall fact that the book is a pile. It really is too bad. This is a very cool period of racing and an interesting, albeit, not crucial, part of the history. The neatest thing about the book is the cover. It will look darn nice on your shelf if you end up with a copy. You will like the pictures, but don't try to decipher the author's ramblings. It will only turn you against Frank Kurtis and his very cool cars.

This book was not what I expected. I thought it was thicker than that, but it is a good book for review.
Builds Nicely on Schaums Principles of Accounting.......2005-11-24
Accounting has never been a favorite subject of mine, but the Schaums Outline series has been wonderful. Presentation of topical material is concise, Solved Problems reinforce chapter concepts, and chapter-end questions have solidified my understanding of accounting.
This book serves as a logical progression to Schaums Principles of Accounting (Levels I and II). It is well-written and enables the reader to understand accounting at the "next level".
Intermediate Accounting has 11 chapters which explore long term liabilities, stock ownership, retained earnings, dilutive securities, investments, revenue recognition, leases, statement of cash flows, accounting changes, pensions and loss carrybacks / carryforwards.
What the book lacks in continuity, it makes up for in the depth of study the Principles of Accounting can only introduce. As a a CFA candidate, I found this book to be an excellent supplement to the curriculums recommended hardbacked books.
I highly recommend this book. For $20, you get a lot of bang for the buck. Enjoy!
Schaum's Outline of Intermediate Accounting I.......2005-10-14
I am an accounting student. Sometimes the textbook can be quite confusing. Schaum's simplifies the explanation. It is a great additional reference for any accounting student. I purchased all the Schaum's Outlines related to Accounting and now I get wonderful comments from my instructor and classmates on how well I understand the material. It is soooo worth the investment. :-)

Good Study Guides.......2001-12-16
These series of books are good study guides. I use this in addition to my text book. The text book gives you so much unnecessary stuff, it makes it hard to read and understand. The Schaum's Outline books give you enough information without being overwhelming to completely understand the subject.

I have read MANY Elvis books and everything you can think of. I cannot put this book down...I am amazed at the details, the dates, the inside stories...it is amazing and in a few hours I have read half the book, and it is 4am! GREAT!
the author didn't know Elvis's birthday?.......2005-09-25
This book by Pamela Clarke Keogh is, in many ways a condensed, water-downed summary of Peter Guarlnick's exhaustive and meticulously researched two-volume biographies on Elvis. I read Keogh's attractive coffee table-style book and noticed how much material she has virtually lifted from Guarlnick's books. Keogh does acknowledge Guarlnick as a source but, really, so much of the text is not her own.
The pictures are lovely, and I did enjoy reading the author's discussion of Elvis's sense of style. Elvis Presley is a cultural icon in our secular world and Ms. Keogh has some interesting comments in this respect.
Having just read Peter Guarlnick's biography on Elvis,I was keenly aware of how much of this book was simply a condensed copy of his detailed work. If you are looking for "the biography" on Elvis, I would recommend Guarlnick's work.
Keogh's book is a "coffee table book" - pretty pictures, easy read, fun to glance at. But, I give it a 2 star rating since the author made a HUGE mistake in my mind - she cited Elvis's birthday as "January 30" 1935. Any fan of Elvis knows he was born on January 8, 1935. I'm not sure how such a goof could be missed but there it is, in black & white. This error made me really doubt the content of the book - there is relatively little text - surely they could have proofed a bit better? It just makes me question the rest of book's biographical "facts" and interviews.

The photographs are beautiful and the writing is a breath of fresh air- putting you right in the heart of Memphis... and Elvis. You won't find tall tales, gossip, or dirt on Elvis here, just many reminders of why we love the man so much. The style of writing is musical and fresh and it is a delight to read.

The Paraguayan War (1864–70) was the most extensive and profound interstate war ever fought in South America. Companion for the serious student.......2005-05-25
The Paraguayan War, or War of the Triple Alliance,is little known in the US, although it was as much a transforming experience in Southern South America as the Civil War was for the Untied States (and comparatively much bloodier). Whigham and Kraay have added immeasurably to the body of literature in English by assembling and editing a series of papers on a wide variety of topics related to the war, ranging from the role of women in Paraguay to free blacks in the Brazilian army to letters home from a junior Brazilian officer. The latter proves the universality of the military experience as his complaints about everything from the foolishness of the high command to his living accomodations would be familiar to any soldier from the Hadrian's Wall to Da Nang.
As in any compendium written by multiple acedemics, the perspectives vary significantly in style and accessibility. However in general this book is free of professiorial jargon. This is not a book for someone discovering the Paraguayan War for the first time, for that one should read "To the Bitter End", by Chris Leuchars or "The Paraguayan War" by Thomas Whigham. If one is reasonably conversant with the War, then this is a perfect companion piece to any general history.

Not Sure What Happened.......2005-10-19
I am sure that when this book left the seller it was in greaat condition, however the way it was packed or handled, the book was bent and the cover was broken. I am hoping this is not how all of their books are sent out, and this accident should be seen as such.
