Here's another excellent book from John, with every statistic you could ever want to know about Jeff Gordon, and arranged in a way that makes it easy to find. Check his record at one track. Check his record for one year. And it's loaded with great pictures of the Rainbow Warrior in action and some great commentary for your reading pleasure. If you know a Jeff Gordon fan, they gotta have this book!!!

Amazing Easy Interesting Account of Cinema Through The Years.......2002-12-10

This huge compendium of journal-like snapshots of the Cinema from the beginning is a fascinating, capsulized visit to the highlights of movies described by year and special interest articles with plenty of pictures and poster art, citing most of the major movies and personalities involved in the motion picture industry including foreign films. Minor irritations only slightly detract from this amazing work. There are glaring black and white photos used for color motion pictures confusing the transition between the history of black and white to technicolor. There is special attention made to Oscar award winners without many of the awards failing to get the detailed attention that they might deserve or at least some guideline as to how the editors picked their film selections. Many of the picture arts and extra photos are given good exposure, yet the reader is left often times wanted to know a bit more about them. Regardless of these faults, "Cinema" remains a gorgeous, easily read masterpiece of film across the years.

More reference than strategy........2000-06-23

The SimTower Official Strategy Guide, in my opinion, is more of a reference to the game than a strategy guide. It has a few "easter eggs" listed that are most often cheats. But, it does include a lot of strategy for zoning the tower and especially building noise-effective hotels and commercial areas. I'd recommend it not for the beginner, but somebody who has already spent a couple (maybe 10-20) hours with the game already and has spent some time looking up hints on the Net. If you have a little experience and have some time on your hands, this book could greatly improve your gaming experience with SimTower.

SimTower: The Official Strategy Guide. This is the first and only book available for SimTower. This book is a very well-done job of the only book available for the game. Every aspect of the game is covered in it, everything from building your first lobby to elevators to what to do if disaster strikes. Also covered in this book are some of the game's well, and little-known, cheats, along with a step-by-step procedure on how to accomplish them. I already had SimTower for almost a year when I first bought this book, however, I learned more than double the things that I had learned during that time by reading this book. I would reccommend this book to anyone, whether they are just beginning using the game or have had it for some time

Good Textbook.......2002-08-21

Okay, I had to get it for a class. Now, I'm not saying it's a bad book. But, it's a text--lots of useful info written in the most insomnia-defeating way possible.

You'll find out everything you ever wanted to know but never knew would be on the final. But, it's weak on the 'Net. For that, a friend loaned me her Guerrilla PR: Wired by Michael Levine. Wow! Totally deals with the Internet and how to use it to your advantage.

Like I said, This is PR isn't bad or anything. In fact, it's actually pretty good. I wish it were a bit cheaper, though, but it's a text--ever find a new text for under $100?

This book gives you a general view of public realtions that is good for those who are curious about the industry. However, I would read Michael Levine's Guerilla PR Wired to gain a more thorough view of Public Relations.

Though it could use an updated edition, This is PR is a terrific textbook. It doesn't get the respect or attention that Cutlip's Effective Public Relations text gets, but it's nearly as good.

Is it time for America -- a country founded and forged by immigrants -- to shut its doors? After decades of liberal policies that welcomed ever greater numbers of immigrants, America is seeing a surge in anti-immigration sentiment. Congressional debates, polls, incidents of violence, and the growing strength of anti-immigration groups all indicate a growing nativism. In Unwelcome Strangers, David M. Reimers enters into the emotionally charged immigration debate, looking at all sides of the argument. Who are the nativists, and are any of their views legitimate? This balanced investigation traces the history of American attitudes toward immigration and offers a new perspective on the current crisis.

The core of this book uncovers the heated arguments of the anti-immigration forces, from environmental groups that warn against the consequences of overpopulation, to economic concerns that immigrants take jobs away from Americans, to assimilationist fears that newcomers -- especially from Latin America, and Asia -- threaten American culture. Reimers questions these arguments while acknowledging that pro-immigration forces hurt their position by not considering whether the United States can actually absorb one million immigrants a year. Reimers sees potential solutions in English language instruction for newcomers, greater accountability of sponsors, and government intervention to counterbalance the negative economic impact some immigrants have on poor communities. The rise of nativism that began in the 1880s culminated with the highly restrictive immigration policies of the 1920s. Reimers shows how immigrant groups have historically been targeted -- whether for ethnic, racial, or religious reasons. Quakers, Catholics, and Jews were the focus of anti-immigrant sentiment as were Germans, Irish, Italians, and Asians. This history of prejudice throws light on later developments in immigration history, such as the public response to the Cuban refugee crisis, the growing proportion of Third World immigrants, and the relationship between legal and illegal immigration, right up to the battles over California's proposition 187 -- which proposed to restrict public assistance for aliens and their children -- and major congressional legislation passed in 1996 to deal with immigration.

Much of the photos in this book are taken from fairly high up, helicopter or aircraft. Composition is better than anything in the genre. Medium format Pentax 645 ensures a high level of detail. Printing quality is among the best i've seen. This is not just another book on the beauty of Alaskan wilderness. Interesting text for those with little background on salmon and their rivers.
A masterpiece!

Rivers of Life: Spectacular photography. Poignant history........2004-07-31

Rivers of Life has stunningly beautiful photography of the rivers and fish of Bristol Bay, Alaska. Although I have been there several times, Ketchum and Hampton's book reveals so much more about this remote region than a visitor would typically see or learn. It also documents the poignant inside story of the history of this, the world's greatest wild salmon fishery, and the century-long struggle among the natives, commercial fishermen, sport-fishermen, and government to conserve the resource and use it wisely.
