        Book Description

He was the man who followed The Legend, exiled forever to his fate as the man in the shadow of Woody Hayes. He was fired from Ohio State in a stormy Thanksgiving controversy played out in national headlines--"Money, Sex, and Football: A Tale of Bungling and Chaos, Honor and Revenge," screamed one headline. Yet in terms of tenure, only The Legend himself had a better record at OSU. In his first year, Earle Bruce's Buckeyes narrowly missed the national championship in a one-point Rose Bowl loss. In his nine years, he was the best coach in the Big Ten and--more important--beat Michigan five times. He was a highly-recruited running back who fell in love with Ohio State the first time he saw Buckeye Stadium, which, he thought, must be one of the seven wonders of the world. After a career-ending injury, he began his coaching career in the Ohio high schools, his teams at Mansfield and Sandusky beaten only twelve times in nearly a hundred games. At Massillon, he was never beaten. Tampa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa were all stops in a long and varied career, remarkable for his consistent winning at every level. After he revived the Colorado State program and beat Oregon in the Freedom Bowl, the Associated Press wrote, "Good teams just seem to follow him around." Filled with the recruiting, the behind-the-scenes stories of the big games, the controversies both on and off the field--and the unforgettable presence of Woody--Earle is a story of toughness, honor, and independence. It is, finally, a coach's life at the pinnacle, conforming only to the code of the field itself, where movement is ruled by perseverance, pride, and gritty determination

3 out of 5 stars A look at an intense coach.......2000-12-03

Earle Bruce had the difficult task of following a legend, Woody Hayes. His first season resulted in 11 wins and everyone thought the Buckeyes would become the dynasty of the 1980s. However, parity in college football became more and more of a factor and OSU didn't achieve the heights that many people thought. Still, Bruce was a very successful coach and proved he could at least beat Michigan more often than not. The only disappointment with the book was the fact that it couldn't go more into depth about Bruce's firing. I realize that must be because of legal ramifications but I think Buckeye fans would still love to know the complete story.

4 out of 5 stars Buckeye and Football fans----take note.......2000-10-04

Fantastic writing with great stories and an insite into college football. Buckeye stories as well as player stories provide perspective to a coaches life.

Great read... can't put it down.

Remember the days when a night at the movies comprised a full three to four hours of varied entertainment? The attraction was not just the colossal main feature, but the supporting program: the newsreel, the cartoon, the shorts and the before-interval picture or "B" feature. Here's a book where you can re-live those wonderful times. No less than 140 varied features (from Hollywood's main studios to Poverty Row) are discussed, all with full cast and technical credits plus other background information. And to round the book out, I've also included 28 cartoons and 9 shorts!

            Book Description

Introducing the chunky, obsessive book of Breasts.

Using over 600 illustrations and photographs, The Breast Book is about changing social mores and attitudes, from classical Greek statuary to the Victorian corset to Twiggy to Pamela Lee. The Breast Book is about envy and etiquette, differences-why 90 percent of French women do not breastfeed, for example-and adornment, including make-up, tattooing, nipple rings, and more. Breasts is about politics, art, religion, kitsch, and burning the bra. About perceptions-90 percent of men prefer a size C over a D. About high art-whether the humanist breast in Renaissance painting or its feminist send-up by photographer Cindy Sherman-and pop art, from Vargas girls to World War II bomber mascots to Madonna. The Breast Book is about getting them right-falsies, bust improvers, gadgets, pumps, and creams-and showing them off, like Jayne Mansfield's, immortalized in cement in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater.

A work of pop culture in itself, The Breast Book includes recurring visual elements like Time Lines and Great Moments of the Breast, plus Titbits-fascinating trivia running throughout.

4 out of 5 stars In appreciation of the human body.......2006-03-18

Curiosity killed the cat, so they say, and since such books of anatomical titles rarely appear in local libraries.. I had to order a copy- and why not? The price was right!
Loved it- the breast is a great conversational item, no doubt, and as such, makes a great subject of a book. My only complaint: it is a TINY book, better suited to the coffee table book format, in my opinion- I am over 40, as are my eyes, and the print was laborious to say the least- the pictures deserved to be presented on a larger scale, as well.
I would recommend it to any one, but especially those who have had Lasic or who own grand magnifying glasses!

            3 out of 5 stars Too small.......2005-09-08

While I like the contents of this book and its many photos, it should have been the size of a coffee table book. Its cropped nature makes for a less enjoyable read than would a larger lap book. The smallness of it makes the book seem big, because it is extremely thick for any book; about 450 pages. Why not a larger, more readable book of 100 pages? It is a disappointing physical format.

5 out of 5 stars Best Breast Book By Far.......2003-01-21

The Breast Book by Maura Spiegel and Lithe Sebesta is a fascinating and fact-filled compendium about the breast.

The Book is scientific, yet saucy, which it makes it fun to read and filled with solid information.

From the delightful collection of breast photos (both old and new) to the Slang Appendix of Breast synonyms, the Book continually amazes and surprises the reader.

A definite, delightful read sure to please all readers. Don't miss reading this Book!!

5 out of 5 stars LOVE YOUR BREASTS!.......2003-01-04

In our culture of breast implants, sexual focus on breasts, negative views of breastfeeding, the rise of breast cancer, and the sexual and esteem implications that come from it all, this book is sure to TITillate, humor and EMPOWER women!

This book covers the historical views of breasts, as well as the functioning breast (yes, they're actually made to lactate!), the political breast and the sexual breast. I love that it is small, but packed with illustrations and photographs that I had never seen before!

A great little gift for yourself - start appreciating your breasts and they won't let you down!

3 out of 5 stars Mostly sound bytes but great pictures.......2003-01-02

I bought this book after seeing "Cleavage" on A&E a few weeks ago since one of the authors was featured on the show. (Side note: I was quite frankly amazed not to see Marilyn Yalom on this show, but maybe I missed her.) This is a small, cute and flirty book that contains a sort of sound-byte history of the female breast. The pictures are great although far too many are not captioned - if you want to know what you're looking at, you'll need to comb through the credits at the back of the book. A few sections of the text are more or less meaningless (i.e., The Veiled Erotic); others do have lots of genuine facts and insights. In other words, if you want to look at pictures of bosoms without getting too wrapped up in history, politics or other serious issues, this is the book for you. That said, I do think that the book does a good job of looking (very, very briefly) at the breast in its many incarnations: sex object, food, cultural icon, etc. It's a good starting point if you have a serious interest in the history of the breast. I would probably rate this book higher if 1) the book was bigger, 2) and went into more detail. To my mind, if this book is a publishing gimmick (which I believe to be the case), then why not spring for a bit more substance? With all the pictures, I am certain people would be willing to plunk down the cash for it.

I read that the authors put two years of research into this book, and I am pretty perplexed by that. The book came out in 2002, yet a lot of the information could have been directly lifted from Marilyn Yalom's A History of the Breast, which was published in 1995, and which is excellent and far superior (I would recommend it to anyone). Perhaps those two years were spent compiling the very nice collection of photos.

                5 out of 5 stars Great Insight!.......2007-06-01

Lots of great information here to be considered. The emotional aspects of any sale should not be taken lightly. Kelle Sparta has a wonderful outlook and approach to consulting buyers and sellers through the real estate transaction. Many agents label their clients as "crazy", "loonie toon", or "psychotic", and they don't consider the emotions that go through each and every one with such a large transaction. I really like her suggestions for getting more information about each clients' situation and trying to look at the world from their perspective to draw from it and help clients through an emotional state. I went to school to be a Child Psychologist, and ended up as a Realtor, but the training I had does come into play with every transaction. Thanks, Kelle, for giving us such a great step-by-step process to help clients, and thereby excel in sales.

As a new agent, I found this book invaluable to starting my business. The Consultative Real Estate Agent book gives insight not only to the real estate business and how to succeed, but prepares you for different types of people at different stages of transitioning from home to home. After reading other books, training through my company, and feedback from seasoned agents, nothing has prepared me more than The Consultative Real Estate Agent. The book puts you on track and strengthens your confidence so you can do the job you were meant to do. As competitive as the industry is, this book unquestionably sets you apart from others.

The Consultative Real Estate book is precious gem and a must have for new and seasoned agents!

Kelle has captured the essence of being a true real estate professional! Her book is filled with wisdom to help realtors grow into being true advocates and guides in the real estate transaction for their clients. Kelle's writing style makes this book a wonderful read - like a conversation with a great friend. If you read any book this year to further your career, make it this one!

Coming from an experienced real estate agent, this book was fantastic and well worth the money! The best thing about the book and Kelle Sparta's writing is that it makes your brain work to come up with your own ideas and it goes about this in an easy to understand way. I have recommended this book to all the agents that I know that are new to the field and several experienced ones as well. It is one of the better real estate books on the market!

5 out of 5 stars Finally, a book for real estate agents that explains how it should be done!.......2006-01-24

I have been a real estate agent, recruiter, trainer and coach going on 10 years, and have read many popular books on how to be successful as a real estate agent, but this book is the Holy Grail of real estate sales.

This is the first book I have read on the subject that explains the essence of real estate sales, which is that it is a relationship based business and that it takes time, patience and understanding to build clients.

Real Estate sales is not easy and most people fail in the industry and that is a fact. Too many "sales gurus" and many books tell you that you just need to learn techniques or put your name out there and you will succeed, when the truth is that you need to learn how to care about people and develop true relationships to be very successful.

Kelle's book is one the first I have read that gets to the essence of this and it is the book that I will encourage all the agents that I train and coach to read.

                Book Description

In 1999, John McCain wrote one of the most acclaimed and bestselling memoirs of the decade, Faith of My Fathers. That book ended in 1972, with McCain’s release from imprisonment in Vietnam. This is the rest of his story, about his great American journey from the U.S. Navy to his electrifying run for the presidency, interwoven with heartfelt portraits of the mavericks who have inspired him through the years—Ted Williams, Theodore Roosevelt, visionary aviation proponent Billy Mitchell, Marlon Brando in Viva Zapata!, and, most indelibly, Robert Jordan. It was Jordan, Hemingway’s protagonist in For Whom the Bell Tolls, who showed McCain the ideals of heroism and sacrifice, stoicism and redemption, and why certain causes, despite the costs, are . . .

                Worth the Fighting For

After five and a half years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, naval aviator John McCain returned home a changed man. Regaining his health and flight-eligibility status, he resumed his military career, commanding carrier pilots and serving as the navy’s liaison to what is sometimes ironically called the world’s most exclusive club, the United States Senate. Accompanying Senators John Tower and Henry “Scoop” Jackson on international trips, McCain began his political education in the company of two masters, leaders whose standards he would strive to maintain upon his election to the U.S. Congress. There, he learned valuable lessons in cooperation from a good-humored congressman from the other party, Morris Udall. In 1986, McCain was elected to the U.S. Senate, inheriting the seat of another role model, Barry Goldwater.
During his time in public office, McCain has seen acts of principle and acts of craven self-interest. He describes both ex-tremes in these pages, with his characteristic straight talk and humor. He writes honestly of the lowest point in his career, the Keating Five savings and loan debacle, as well as his triumphant moments—his return to Vietnam and his efforts to normalize relations between the U.S. and Vietnamese governments; his fight for campaign finance reform; and his galvanizing bid for the presidency in 2000.
Writes McCain: “A rebel without a cause is just a punk. Whatever you’re called—rebel, unorthodox, nonconformist, radical—it’s all self-indulgence without a good cause to give your life meaning.” This is the story of McCain’s causes, the people who made him do it, and the meaning he found. Worth the Fighting For reminds us of what’s best in America, and in ourselves.

In 1999, John McCain wrote one of the most acclaimed and bestselling memoirs of the decade, Faith of My Fathers. That book ended in 1972, with McCain's release from imprisonment in Vietnam. This is the rest of his story, about his great American journey from the U.S. Navy to his electrifying run for the presidency, interwoven with heartfelt portraits of the mavericks who have inspired him through the years -- Ted Williams, Theodore Roosevelt, visionary aviation proponent Billy Mitchell, Marlon Brando in Viva Zapata!, and, most indelibly, Robert Jordan. It was Jordan, Hemingway's protagonist in For Whom the Bell Tolls, who showed McCain the ideals of heroism and sacrifice, stoicism and redemption, and why certain causes, despite the costs, are... Worth the Fighting For.

After five and a half years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, naval aviator John McCain returned home a changed man. Regaining his health and flight-eligibility status, he resumed his military career, commanding carrier pilots and serving as the navy's liaison to what is sometimes ironically called the world's most exclusive club, the United States Senate. Accompanying Senators John Tower and Henry "Scoop" Jackson on international trips, McCain began his political education in the company of two masters, leaders whose standards he would strive to maintain upon his election to the U.S.

He describes both extremes in these pages, with his characteristic straight talk and humor. He writes honestly of the lowest point in his career, the Keating Five savings and loan debacle, as well as his triumphant moments his return to Vietnam and his efforts to normalize relations between the U.S. and Vietnamese governments; his fight for campaign finance reform; and his galvanizing bid for the presidency in 2000.

Writes McCain: "A rebel without a cause is just a punk. Whatever you're called -- rebel, unorthodox, nonconformist, radical -- it's all self-indulgence without a good cause to give your life meaning." This is the story of McCain's causes, the people who made him do it, and the meaning he found. Worth the Fighting For reminds us of what's best in America, and in ourselves.

5 out of 5 stars Worth the Reading.......2005-08-25

As a long time admirer of John McCain, I wanted to read further about his life after having read "Faith of My Fathers". His first memoir chronicled the military experiences of both his father and grandfather, and the time that McCain spent in Vietnam as a prisoner of war. While that status has helped him in his political career, McCain has never used the term 'hero' to define who he is. In "Worth the Fighting For" he chronicles his career in politics, interspersing his recollections with portraits of men he has admired and whom he considers heroes.

After ending his Navy career, John McCain moved to Arizona and began his assent in the political arena. He moved up the ranks to state senator and has served in that capacity for twenty plus years. His writing is candid and often almost too honest for a man still practicing politics as he recounts fights over legislation and his run for the presidential nomination. But John McCain is about laying every card on the table. He doesn't hide anything and he never shirks from anything - even if it means fighting for an issue that goes against the Republican party politics. McCain seems to be one of the rare politicians who can put partisianship aside and truly work for what is best for America and the American people. He acknowledges his triumphs, as well as his failures, painting a portrait of a man who has spent his life in service to the country he loves.

An interesting blend of memoir and political science, McCain has crafted a read that extends beyond party lines. Whatever your political preference, you can admire John McCain for what he has achieved throughout his life. The title "Worth the Fighting For" is an apt description of McCain's naval and political career, but it more importantly applies to what is at stake in American politics today. For the government to truly serve the nation, there needs to be less fighting between the two main parties. And for Americans not in government to make a difference, they need to be active citizens who realize that democracy and freedom are things that are worth fighting for, (even when they come at a high price).

5 out of 5 stars Well Written, Informative & Entertaining.......2005-03-05

John McCain is a Republican Senator of Arizona - he is currently serving his third term as Senator. This book was written in 2002. It documents his life: during the Vietnam war, after the war, and during his terms as Senator, also his 2000 bid for the Presidency. McCain offers a lot of introspect into his life and his decisions. I sometimes get upset when I see the decisions Senators and other politicians make but after reading this book I see that there are so many different types of people and special interests that politicians have to please. They are constantly walking on a thin line.

McCain's father and grandfather were both members of the military. His ancestors also fought in the civil war. McCain's family has a rich history. After reading this book, I can see McCain has a deep love for this country. I liked how McCain takes accountability for his decisions and tries his best to be honest.

I liked McCain's feelings about how he feels poor people fought in the Vietnam war while rich privileged kids got to stay home safe. McCain feels that this country belongs to the poor people - because they have fought all of our wars.

I'm by no stretch a Republican (I am conservative though), however, if McCain was President right now - I would feel this country has an honest, patriotic American as the President. This is an inspiring book and is also well written.

                5 out of 5 stars Aptly titled...Powerful, Inspirational Messages.......2003-09-19

After reading his other memoir "Faith of my Fathers," I was given "Worth the Fighting For" as a gift. And what a gift it turned out to be! Senator John McCain proves that he is truly one of the great All-American heroes of our time.

This memoir is honest, entertaining, and enlightening. By including the biographies of individuals McCain admired, we gain even better insight into the way John McCain's mind works. We begin to understand his motivations, his aspirations, and above all, his values. I am almost startled by how TRUTHFUL he is in approaching the challenges and obstacles in his life (running the gamut from his first bid for congress, the Keating Five Scandal, the run for President, and his Campaign Finance Reform movement.)What a life he's led!

I could not have come up with a better title for his work ("Worth the Fighting For"). Senator McCain very clearly demonstrates what he believes are the most important values integral to being a public servant and an American. I read this memoir with a pencil, because I found myself underlining so many moving and inspirational passages in his work.

Although I don't share the same political views as McCain, I can't help but feel an awesome sense of admiration for this man and his accomplishments. His memoir moves past political debates and dialogue...to examining and understanding our deeper core beliefs.

My absolute favorite chapters were the ones describing his bid for the Presidency and his efforts in Campaign Finance reform. However, all his biographical sketches were informative and fascinating. Another perk of reading his work, is getting a more personal opinion of the many "famous" elected officials running our nation--it's interesting to think why he either likes/dislikes these individuals.

An excellent work. Definitely pick this one up!

5 out of 5 stars Candid memoir that increased my opinion of McCain.......2003-07-21

Enjoyed hearing the audio version of WORTH THE FIGHTING
FOR: A MEMOIR by John McCain with Mark Salter (his
administrative assistant) . . . McCain did the narration, and that
had a lot to do with why I liked it so much . . . it felt that he was
speaking to me directly . . . I also got to know much more about
McCain's career after his Vietnam captivity . . . he pulls no
punches, talking about his friendship with John Tower and the
subsequent babble over Tower's nomination for defense

secretary . . . similarly, he revisits the "Keating Five" affair that
nearly wrecked his career in the early 1990s . . . yet both most
amazing and refreshing was his candid admission that he lied
during his 2000 run for the presidency . . . when asked about
the Confederate flag, he first did not tell the truth about his
background . . . he then compounded this mistake by not
divulging how he really felt about the subject.

Yet that said, I think the following quote from the book provides insight into
what John McCain is all about: "A rebel without a cause is just a
punk. Whatever you're called--rebel, unorthodox, nonconformist,
radical--it's all self-indulgence without a good cause to give you
                meaning."

It got me thinking that I'd give serious consideration to voting for
him should he ever decide to run again. . . however, it is unlikely
that he will be given the opportunity--much to my loss but
                to Arizona's continued gain.

                5 out of 5 stars A great American hero.......2003-05-21

While there are many politicians who profess to be uncontrollable mavericks who vote strictly based upon their conscience, there are few who do so in actuality. John McCain is one of these few rare creatures that are slowly growing extinct in a political climate that readily denounces instead of encouraging political reform and true representation of one's constituency. As the noble McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform is pondered by the Supreme Court for its supposed unconstitutionality and concurrently eviscerated by machine politicians such as Mitch McConnell, John McCain continues his admirably idealistic and iconoclastic approach to political reform: It's worth the fighting for.

As the vast multitude of Senators surreptitiously sneak in pork barrel earmarks that waste taxpayers billions of dollars per year, McCain espouses a line item veto - where the President can eliminate such wasteful expenditures while still signing the bill into law. McCain is loath to the inherent corruption and undue influence that soft money has effected upon the election process under the auspices of ostensibly independent ads on the eve of elections. Corruption, pork barrel politics, dishonesty, apathy, and anti-Americanism are all anathema to the most distinguished and honorable Senator in our great country - John McCain. I highly recommend this memoir. Just as McCain does so commendably with his politics, he has put his heart into it as only he can.

This study of politics and the role of the state in the Arab world is aimed at students of Middle East politics, political theory and political economy. Ayubi's main objective is to place the Arab world within a theoretical framework that avoids both "orientalist" and "fundamentalist" insistence on the utter peculiarity and uniqueness of the region. He focuses on eight countries, and deals with such issues as the emergence of social classes, corporatism, economic liberalization and the relationship between state and civil society.

1 out of 5 stars Ayubi is the worst writter I have ever read.......2004-12-12

This book is awful. His writing style is arrogant and wordy, deliberately confusing, and completely inaccessible. It's as though he's getting paid by the word, and the last thing he wants is for anybody to understand what he's saying. A truly painful reading experience. Very few practical examples of the broad, Marxist claims he is making, and very irritating textual citations every second sentence that make reading it about as fun as a root canal.
P.S. The one star above was a technical flaw in the program. If I had my way, rather than a star, I would have a giant black hole. Every time I sat down to read this giant cube book of drivel, I died a little inside. Truly the worst book I ever had to read.

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps the definitive work on the Arab State.......2001-11-06

Overstating the Arab State is the ironic title that Nazih Ayubi has chosen for his 'state' centered and Gramscian informed study of the nature of the Arab State in terms of its bureaucratic and interventionist development. The title also alludes to the overestimation of the actual power and strength of the Arab State. Ayubi has suggested that Arab states have been wrongly categorized as 'strong'; whereas, they are weak in terms of their extractive capacity, institutional strength and ideology.
A principal political argument of the book centers on the notion that the Arab State has not moved beyond the coercive and corporative stage to create a political system that enjoys the consensus of civil society and includes it as a basic component. This is the kind of political strength that Gramsci categorized as hegemony considering its attainment to be the defining attribute of a Strong State. Within this definition of hegemony Ayubi has also understood a state's ability to reduce its involvement in the productive functions of the economy.
According to Ayubi the Arab State rules on the basis of its monopoly of the coercive forces in society and violence that subjugate rather than complement society; thereby, it is better described as fierce than strong. Corporatism, or the domination of the institutions of the middle and working classes by the state in an attempt to create social and industrial harmony, has supplied the typical model of socio-political organization in the Arab world and applied to both monarchies and populist republics. Overall, an Excellent work. Ayubi died shortly after completing this book.

5 out of 5 stars It is an excellent book........2000-02-26

Nazih N. Ayubi makes a good analysis of the point. He gives both the historical background and the contemporary aspects of the issue. Instead of giving useless details, he focuses on the necessary aspects. the order of the book, the language, the level of the knowledge about the geographical area, which is of the interest are all perfect. If you are studying the arab states, the middle east or similar issues, you have to read it!

The Yellowstone-to-Yukon corridor (Y2Y) encompasses nearly half a million square miles of the northern Rocky Mountains, housing 11 national parks and myriad wilderness areas, wildlife refuges, and forest reserves. But with resorts sprouting out of its valleys and housing developments creeping up the foothills, concerns have mounted over the welfare of the region's renowned wildlife and awe-inspiring landscape. The Y2Y Conservation Initiative, founded in the early 1990s, aims to uphold "this biogeographical region's unique beauty and natural diversity by finding ways for human activities to blossom without overwhelming nature and the overall quality of life."

The famed Craighead twins, wildlife biologists both, discovered in their years of studying Yellowstone's grizzlies that the bears typically wander up to a thousand square miles--meaning that even that huge park does not provide enough forage within its boundaries to ensure their survival in lean years. A Y2Y corridor of safe passage would offer animals like the grizzly ample room to roam, as well as clear migration routes to lessen the chance of extinction due to inbreeding. Already changes are taking place with such knowledge in mind, like the construction of animal bridges over major roadways. But the region's vastness also guarantees multiple private, public, and bureaucratic hoops to jump through in the conservation effort.

As a book, Yellowstone to Yukon is a thoughtful primer on the landscape and its wild denizens. Striking color pictures and maps accompany narrative text up to National Geographic's usual standards, guiding readers through 2,100 miles of the "most intact collections of wildlife in the world." --Jenny Burritt

                          Book Description

Crossroads of wild nature and a rapidly growing human presence, Yellowstone to Yukon -- Y2Y for short -- is both a biogeographical region and a conservation initiative. It encompasses nearly half a million square miles along the craggy Northern Rockies, most of it above 3,500 feet. Y2Y's limited lowlands provide prime winter range for numerous wildlife species -- as well as prime ranchland and prime building sites for vacation homes. Wildlife biologist and acclaimed author Douglas H. Chadwick takes you on a voyage of personal discovery as he chronicles the burgeoning threats that face this region -- and the promise embodied by Y2Y.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!! Now I have new vacation ideas.......2006-01-21

I bought this at Yellowstone in the summer of 2005, in the opening legs of a vacation trip from Grand Teton to Banff. After reading the book, I already have ideas for a trip to northern British Columbia and the Yukon. The only thing that could top this would be a nice two-hour video.

But the book is about more than nature travel, although that alone would be a five-star effort. It's also about the preservation of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem on the U.S. side of the border, and similar land on the Canadian side. Chadwick details how the consciousness of ecosystems, especially for large animals such as grizzlies, has grown in recent years as we try to improve wildlife protection in the 21st century.

A must read to understand what natural history in this portion of the Rockies is all about.

5 out of 5 stars America the Beautiful.......2002-07-12

Rediscover what makes North America such a beautiful continent. The photographs are in typical National Geographic excellence, as is the writing. I had the pleasure of meeting Douglas Chadwick in person and having dinner with him one day. This is not just someone doing a writing assignment, but someone who is very passionate about nature and its beauty. A wonderful gift for anyone you know who hikes or even drives around the country. Explore the splendors that Mother Nature has created.
