Book Description

Cecil B. Day, founder of Days Inns, represents the American dream personified. One of his mottos, "Find a need, then fill it," guided him throughout his life and was the counsel he offered aspiring entrepreneurs.

Having experienced the usual ups and downs of one whose mind is set on a business career, it occurred to Cecil Day that affordable lodging accommodations were in short supply in America. To fill the void, he set out to provide motels with clean, comfortable, moderately priced rooms. In 1970 Cecil started his business with one simple motel, and within eight short years more than three hundred Days Inns dotted the American and Canadian landscapes. Today, Days Inns is still the world's fastest growing motel chain. Cecil Day possessed natural business acumen. That, coupled with a fantastic imagination and extraordinary perseverance, were prime ingredients in his march toward success. "Keep on keepin' on!" was his father's sage advice, and Cecil took these words to heart as he indefatigably pursued his dream.

One final ingredient in Cecil B. Day's success story was his unshakable belief in Judeo-Christian values. To Cecil this meant treating everyone--from the most modest employee to the shrewdest banker--with dignity, respect, and fairness.

By the time of Cecil B. Day's death at age forty-four, he had amassed a multimillion dollar fortune, half of which he generously shared with churches and other charitable institutions.

In reading this book thus far, I've learned that I have yet to understand and put trust into following my "tug" to the fullest - which when reading this book is the main part of the formula for success. Add in the basic positives, such as faith, love and respect.....well you'll have to read it for yourself.

Mr. Day is someone I never met, but feel like I know after reading Day by Day by his son, CB Day, Jr. I hope to be like him when I grow up. Honest, in attitude, and spiritually. I'm just 10, but now I know good really can be got in America.

Mr. Day is proof. Read it.

      Book Description

In more than twenty powerful films, Abenaki filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin has waged a brilliant battle against the ignorance and stereotypes that Native Americans have long endured in cinema and television. In this book, the first devoted to any Native filmmaker, Obomsawin receives her due as the central figure in the development of indigenous media in North America.
Incorporating history, politics, and film theory into a compelling narrative, Randolph Lewis explores the life and work of a multifaceted woman whose career was flourishing long before Native films such as Smoke Signals reached the screen. He traces Obomsawin’s path from an impoverished Abenaki reserve in the 1930s to bohemian Montreal in the 1960s, where she first found fame as a traditional storyteller and singer. Lewis follows her career as a celebrated documentary filmmaker, citing her courage in covering, at great personal risk, the 1991 Oka Crisis between Mohawk warriors and Canadian soldiers. We see how, since the late 1960s, Obomsawin has transformed documentary film, reshaping it for the first time into a crucial forum for sharing indigenous perspectives. Through a careful examination of her work, Lewis proposes a new vision for indigenous media around the globe: a “cinema of sovereignty” based on what Obomsawin has accomplished.

2 out of 5 stars Interesting Idea But Plotline Too Restrictive.......2001-04-20

This is a one-on-one adventure designed for a cleric between 4 to 6 levels of experience. The adventure is about a cleric being sent by his or her faith to a small wine-producing town in order to fix its poor attendance at the town's only church. When the cleric arrives, he discovers that there are much larger problems in the town than just low attendance at mass. Undead roam the nights and villagers have gone missing taken by a mysterious creature.

I just finished reading this module, but unfortunately I don't think I will be able to use the module anytime soon. The storyline doesn't allow for a lot of flexibility. The adventure hook seems a little lame to me sending an adventuring cleric to check on the low draw at the local church. I could work with that though. The part I found restrictive was that the PC cleric in the adventure had to be the same religion as the priest in the town. The town in question was very tiny with only 175 inhabitants and in a pastoral setting at that. This severely limited the religion that the PC cleric could be. You wouldn't find a church of a war god or any demi-human god in a small wine-producing human town. In fact, the town's cleric had at one time blessed some grapes, which you won't find to often except for clerics of nature, woodland, sun, or healing gods. Well anyways...I liked the design of the adventure and if you have a cleric or are willing to make a character to fit the storyline then you will probably like the adventure. However, don't expect this adventure to be suitable for clerics of many if not most religions.

        4 out of 5 stars Pretty Decent.......1999-09-07

A good module. I found it a little disorganized (i.e., there were several different places that had information about different sites and characters). However, it was a good concept, and an enjoyable play.

4 out of 5 stars Worth playing through.......1999-06-22

This was a pretty good mod. Overall, I was pleased to DM it for a friend, and I think I would have enjoyed playing it as well. The only real problem I had was that the gamebook makes no allowances for the possibility that the player might be willing to leave town and go get help! My player tried to do this, and I was forced to Deus-ex-machina him into fixing things for himself. But overall, the mod was well worth the miniscule pricetag.

5 out of 5 stars Great All Around Adventure.......2001-04-21

Think of the Night of the Living Dead where zombies rise up and try to kill everything in sight. Well it is nighttime when you arrive in the quaint town of Pommeville, and not long after you slip off to sleep at the local inn all hell breaks lose. Zombies assault the entire town and some have burst into your very room. What caused this nightmarish attack...well its your job to find out. Save the town and yourself and become a hero in the process.

This adventure is set as a one-on-one adventure with one PC cleric of a good or neutral aligned religion with 2 to 4 levels of experience. The adventure is very flexible though and may be played as a regular adventure as well. If playing as a group adventure, make sure that at least a couple of the party members have magical weapons because they are going to need them. The adventure is very challenging, but not overpowering for a well played character. The storyline is ingenious and will results in hours of great roleplaying fun. I recommend this product highly if you can only find it.

        Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Another Kotler Classic.......2006-07-17

This is an excellent book by erudite professors that is well written and an easy read. This is a valuable book in the area of selling services, an area that is more challenging than selling physical products.

The skill of selling professional services is critical and is the one most often in need of improvement for professionals such as engineers, architects, lawyers, marketing, IT and management consultants, accountants, doctors, among others. The authors stress the critical importance of focusing on customer needs, as the one key, which by itself will improve one's success in selling one's work. If one will always focus on client/customer benefits, rather than product/process features, one will improve one's success immediately. Features are components of a service which may include one's experience and expertise.

People do not buy features but benefits, hence the need to focus on turning the important features of professional offerings into true benefits. To assume that one's client/customer will figure out the benefit is to lower the chance of selling one's potential product or idea.

The book does a good job of providing practical advice on a wide range of critical subjects pertaining to this subject such as the 7Ps of marketing, the differences between products and services, the description of the distinctive challenges of marketing professional services, tactical ways to establish the services we should provide, pricing of services, among others.

Case studies and examples enable the reader to reinforce what they will have learnt. As a management consultant, this book is a valuable addition to my library that I refer and consult regularly.

        4 out of 5 stars A solid B+.......2005-09-08

Kotler, for my money, is the ultimate marketing authority. While I agree with much of the book, there are just a few things that I found missing in the approach. As a marketing consultant for independent professionals, I prefer the people I coach to read David Maister, Alan Weiss and Robert Bly.

5 out of 5 stars If you are only going to buy one book, this is the one........2005-04-06

After reading about 4 other books on the same subject this will be the only one that I will keep. This book goes beyond the typical professional services marketing subjects of get published, speak, etc. It instead describs TACTICAL ways to determine which services you should provide, how to price those services and how to let people know you provide them.

        2 out of 5 stars misapplied thinking.......2004-09-11

I am a fan of Philip Kotler but this book misses the mark. There are some factual mistakes and errors but this is not the biggest problem. The book comes across as a frankenstein of joined together marketing theories and application from many of Kotlers other works and there seems little new here. Additionally, many of the concepts discussed, such as the BCG matrix hardly seem applicable to most professionals, particularly those working on large multi million dollar tenders such as engineers and architects. Having taught marketing at post graduate level using Kotlers text books as the core text, this work becomes even more dissappointing as it seems that there is little evidence that the authors have a solid understanding of professional services marketing as it for the professionals who practice it.

5 out of 5 stars Must-have for professionals wanting to understand marketing........2003-10-08

This book is all about marketing for professionals - lawyers, doctors, accountants, management consultants, etc. It takes a textbook approach to this specialized area of marketing professional services but does so in a fast and effective fashion.

The book starts out by defining marketing and quoting Peter Drucker 'The aim of marketing is to make selling superfluous'. Every professional loves to hear that as we all hate selling. The Seven Ps of Marketing are then explained - Product, Price, Place, Promotion, Physical Evidence, Processes, and People. The fundamental way services differ from products is then outlined - intangibility, inseparability, variability, and perishability along with satisfaction criteria being different and the effect of customer participation.

Ten distinctive problems in marketing professional services are also described - third party accountability, client uncertainty, experience, limited differentiability, quality control, doers as sellers, time allocated to marketing, pressure to react, conflicting views about advertising, and a limited marketing knowledge base.

The rest of the book builds on this foundation. This is one of the most useful and readable books I have encountered on the subject of marketing. It has the perfect combination of theory, practice, and actionable steps that you can find in any book specializing on marketing professional services.

So if you are one of the targeted audiences don't hesitate and just get the book. You will not regret it and at the very least, it will give you a deep understanding of where you can improve in your business. You may feel the book is a bit pricey but the value makes it worthwhile. Good luck!

5 out of 5 stars Essential for any SERIOUS dance student.......2006-07-05

This is a beautifully written very open look at the world of a professional dancer. The difficulties and joys of life in a world class ballet company are clearly and thoughtfully laid out by Bentley. The pride she had for her place in NYCB, and the sadness of standing in the background while others danced in the spotlight in front of her. But ultimately we are allowed to see the great joy finds in her dancing, and the struggle and work it took to get her there, as well as the struggle and hard work it took to keep her there. Overall I thought that Bentley was very candid and very honest about her life in NYCB. Every dance student planning a life as a professional dancer should read this book.

5 out of 5 stars Why isn't this still in print?.......2002-09-06

Winter Season: A Dancer's Journal is the exquisite chronicle of a ballet dancer's experiences with the New York City Ballet. The dancer, Toni Bentley, claims a certain naivetee, but I don't believe it's innocent ignorance as much as it is simple yearning for experiences she rarely has.

She has a delicate flair for words, and her prose couldn't be any less lovely than her pliees and tondus.

Dancing with a world-famous ballet company is gruelling. The dancers are overworked, underfed, and have little understanding of how the "real world" works, yet it would seem they like it that way. Ballet companies thusly have much in common with military outfits: soldiers and dancers work brutally hard, but have their concerns looked after by the higher-ups. Balanchine is the dancers' general.

With the incredibly long hours and the accompanying mental and physical exhaustion, how did Toni get the time to write this book?

        She writes,

"We are hairless. We have no leg hairs, no pubic hair, no armpit hair, no facial hair, no neck hair and only a solid little lump at the top of our heads. Any sign of stubble must be closely watched out for and removed.

"That is not all. We don't eat food, we eat music. We need artistic sustenance only. Emotional, inspiring sustenance. Al our physical energy is the overflow of spiritual feelings. We live on faith, belief, love, inspiration, vitamins and Tab."

Toni eventually does break free of the NYC Ballet machine, but she's drawn inexorably back. After all, as she says, "We live only to dance. If living were not an essential prerequisite, we would abstain."

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful glimpse into an intriguing, demanding world.......2000-06-17

With "Winter Season," Toni Bentley allows her audience to see a real picture of the incredibly tough, demanding and creative world of professional ballet. We see George Balanchine at the end of the career, and such greats as Suzanne Farrell and Peter Martins. The incredible, difficult, almost insane demands put on the dancers are clearly drawn, as is Ms. Bentley's love for her art. Especially evocative is her struggle with reconciling art with her demanding profession.

Often, artistic memoirs focus on the superstars, the Tallchiefs and Nureyevs, for instance. The view from the corps de ballet is all the more interesting for being so rare. This book is beautiful, wry, humorous and exquisitely-written. I wish Ms. Bentley had written several other volumes.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, revealing, thouroughly enjoyable.......1998-11-28

I really enjoyed this book. It gave a wonderful glimpse into the real world of professional dancing. Miss Bentley told this story with beautiful language, her words flowed like water. I found it wonderful to know what it was like to live the life of a dancer, to know the struggles and the victories, the fantasies and the realities. I recommend this book for all who love dance and for anyone interested in show business or simply anyone who enjoys a good read.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, Fascinating, Absorbing.......1998-02-17

I enjoyed this book. It was an absorbing, eye-opening look into the world of the ballet written by an insider - a young, intense and highly intelligent young woman, a dancer with the NYC Ballet, who exposes life in this elite and unique world.

        5 out of 5 stars Still Beautiful.......2007-05-21

I have been in love with Titanic since her dicovery in 1985. I was five years old at that time. the Return of Titanic, has brought her even closer to me. To see her still as beautiful today as she was befor her fall. A little rusty, still grand! The photos take are great and have inspired me to look for other shipwercks, of Robert D. Ballard's.
This is a most own by any whom love the Titanic or any other ship of her time.

2 out of 5 stars Re-hash of old material dominates book.......2005-04-10

When Ballard returned to the wreck in 2004, he had before him the opportunity to make his case for encouraging salvage and interactive expeditions to Titanic to come to a halt, in order to preserve the decaying liner. He also had the opportunity to depict the liner in a then-and-now format, from his photographs from 1985 and 1986, compared to the present.

Instead, the book is laden with what could only be described as re-hashed material from his previous book, "The Discovery of the Titanic".
Opportunity was had with this book to offer a more comprehensive look at the forces of nature and man at work to break down the wreck with which many have become fascinated.
The boat was missed, in some sense, almost literally, with this book.

The only saving grace that makes the book somewhat worthy of purchase and not checking out at the local library are the few 'new' photos of debris field items, including the aft grand staircase dome top, lying flattened in the sediment, as well as the 2004 mosaic. Unfortunately, the mosaic itself is cropped poorly, and many of the 2004 pictures are dark or unclear. However, one thing is clear - Titanic isn't as pretty as she was when first re-photographed in 1985. Readers will get a glimpse of the result of what happens when metal and salt water mixes over a period of over nine decades.

3 out of 5 stars Deja vu all over again...........2004-12-31

First off, I am an avid fan of the whole Titanic story, and went to the Titanic Artifacts exhibit to see items brought up from the ship. But this book is very disappointing, especially if you have Ballard's book 'The Discovery of the Titanic' (1987) because this book repeats so much of what was in that book. So for those who do not have that book, this book will make a fine addition. I was hoping for so much more in the way of new pictures but really was not safisfied with what was offered. I feel the book was put together quickly to make the case for preserving the site and the ship and with so much filler from old material was not a good value. A book simply focusing on the threats and the current state would have been better. However, for those new to the whole saga, this book will suffice.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing....could have been so much more.......2004-12-27

A very fast read. Got it on Christmas and was done the next day. Ballard calls it Return to Titanic, but if you are looking for lots of photos and discussion about that topic, you will be very disappointed. It took Ballard over 100 pages to get to finally showing a picture from his 2004 return to the ship. Everything up to that point was historical, other sources, or his 1986 photos. The book was structured in the same way that his other books have been presented. History of the ship in the first part, discussion of methods, equipment, and finding the ship and the dives in the second, then finally a presentation of his findings. In all his other dive books, this has been a GREAT format and I have enjoyed them immensely. However, it just didn't work for me here. The story of Titanic has already been presented ad nauseum in many other books, including Ballard's first Titanic book. The first 50 pages of his 2004 book are just a rehash of the story with very few new facts or tidbits of info.

And the previous reviewer is very on the mark when he mentions Ballard's strong opinions about leaving the ship alone, making it a museum, etc. Ballard is entitled to his opinions, and they may help shape the future of marine archeology, but they are so strongly presented and so often reiterated, that they become somewhat of a turn-off. If Ballard is so interested in keeping the ship intact and turning it into a museum, then he needs to satisfy my desire to see the objects in context in the "museum". I want lots of pictures! He states he did a complete mapping of the objects in the debris field, including areas where no one else has been before. So show me lots of pictures. But he doesn't. There are only 30 2004 ocean floor photos presented in the entire book. Several of those were exciting new items that have never been shown in any of the other books (by Ballard or other authors). But there could have and should have been so much more. If you want it to be a museum, then share your findings with us. We don't all have access to telepresence or deep sea submersibles.

If my review sounds like a diatribe against Ballard, I suppose it probably is. I love his books. But this one could have done so much more and it kind of made me angry that it didn't, especially after his going on and on about making it a "look but don't touch" museum. For the novice who hasn't read a ton of Titanic material, it's good, for just the format that I mentioned early in my review (provides history etc). However, if you are a Titanic or shipwreck buff, I think you will find this book frustrating for its lack of sharing a significant amount of what Ballard saw during his 2004 dives. However, you'll still want to add this to your library for the info and pics he does present.

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures and strong opinions..........2004-11-29

Since I find the whole Titanic story fascinating, I checked out Return To Titanic - A New Look At The World's Most Famous Lost Ship by Robert D. Ballard with Michael S. Sweeney. It's a beautiful book with a definite agenda.

Ballard was the person who originally discovered the sunken remains of the Titanic in 1985. He returns for another look at the ship in May 2004 and undertakes a project to get as complete of an external photo record of the ship as possible. He has definite opinions about the large number of visitors and scavengers who have, in his view, greatly accelerated the deterioration of the ship over the last few years. By comparing photographs of certain key areas, you can see where damage has occurred. Certain popular spots on the ship have become defacto landing areas for submersibles, and they've broken down decking and walls. Pirate scavengers have literally torn open parts of the ship or cut off sections in order to get prized souvenirs, like the phone system from the crow's nest where the first iceberg sighting occurred. The photography is beautiful, and the story of the return trip is interesting.

The only thing that keeps me from giving this book a full five stars is the fact that the author is *very* opinionated about the damage to the ship being caused entirely by human visitors. He's adamant that things should be a "look but don't touch" situation, and I'm inclined to agree. But writing off all deterioration to people instead of the ravages of being submerged for over 90 years is a bit extreme. Since there's no baseline from 1912 forward, you have to assume that pictures from 1985 chronicle the way the ship was during all that time. I don't know that you can prove that conclusively. Regardless, if the Titanic is of interest to you, you should enjoy this book quite a bit.

              Book Description

John Edward, Suzane Northrup, and George Anderson are just a few of the prominent American mediums who have been accused of being frauds. But what if a respected scientist challenged them to make contact with the beyond under controlled laboratory conditions? What if the results not only stunned a skeptical scientist but also offered astonishing answers to a timeless question: Is there life after death?

              THE AFTERLIFE EXPERIMENTS

Risking his academic reputation, Dr. Gary E. Schwartz asked well-known mediums to become part of a series of experiments to prove, or disprove, the existence of an afterlife. This riveting narrative, with electrifying transcripts, documents stringently monitored experiments in which mediums attempted to contact dead friends and relatives of "sitters" who were masked from view and never spoke, depriving the mediums of any cues.

Here are the results that awed sitters and researchers alike: a revelation about a son's suicide, what a deceased father wanted to say about his last days in a coma, the transformation of a man's lifelong doubts about the afterlife, and, most amazing of all, a forecast of a beloved spouse's death. Forced by data to abandon skepticism, Schwartz presents this amazing account of his groundbreaking work, compelling from first page to last.

"An esteemed scientist's personal journey from skepticism to wonder and awe provides astonishing answers to a timeless question: Is there life after death? Are love and life eternal? This exciting account presents provocative evidence that could upset everything that science has ever taught. Daring to risk his worldwide academic reputation, Dr. Gary E. Schwartz, along with his research partner Dr. Linda Russek, asked some of the most prominent mediums in America -- including John Edward, Suzane Northrup, and George Anderson -- to become part of a series of extraordinary experiments to prove, or disprove, the existence of an afterlife. THE AFTERLIFE EXPERIMENTS. This riveting narrative, with its electrifying transcripts, puts the reader on the scene of a breakthrough scientific achievement: contact with the beyond under controlled laboratory conditions. In stringently monitored experiments, leading mediums attempted to contact dead friends and relatives of ""sitters"" who were masked from view and never spoke, depriving the mediums of any cues. The messages that came through stunned sitters and researchers alike. Here, as they unfolded in the laboratory setting, are uncanny revelations about a son's suicide, what a deceased father wanted to say about his last days in a coma, the transformation of a man's lifelong doubts about the afterlife, and, most amazing of all, a forecast of a beloved spouse's death. Dr. Schwartz was forced by the overwhelmingly positive data to abandon his skepticism, reaching some startling conclusions. Compelling from the first page to the last, The Afterlife Experiments is the amazing documentation of groundbreaking experiments you will never forget."

I was reading through this book at Barnes & Noble and jokingly thought, "Loved ones on the other side, let me know you like this book!" Sure enough, right then and there, someone tickled me on the back of my neck. I immediately turned around and nobody was there. Thanks, Other Side. This book got endorsed by the spirits around me, so it's the real deal! The book is very well written and I plan to buy one next week.

5 out of 5 stars Gary Schwartz - A personal experience made this book even more powerful.......2007-08-21

Wonderful book- I too was a skeptic until I was almost 40 and started going
into trance-like states where I would see scenes, people, images of various
time periods. During this trance state, I could barely move, could not speak, except for some strange words, I knew not to be English. As the speech portions progressed, I tried to research what type of language I was speaking and began recording and writing everything. I soon saw a pattern in the words and realized I was speaking another language and amazingly, not of this Earth. There is a star system called Roag, comprised of 22 planets, all united and all speaking this one language. What I WAS seeing were scenes from past lives lived on those planets.Scenes now became much more vivid and extremely specific, with names, dates, places, etc. As my trance states became more intense, telepathic communication now entered into the scenes as a few different people were explaining to me what I was seeing & hearing. I am not a kook, nut or ex-mental patient. I was in Nursing school and my children were almost grown when this began to happen. Now, I can also see a bubble of light around people, looking like threads,
living energy threads of awareness and filled with a person's life-their families, their past, things they like (and don't like to do)and so much more. I cannot possibly go into everything in this limited space-and I do hope to put everything together in a series of books in the future. But I do know that life most definitely goes on and is eternal. We are like balls of light, filled with "strands" of awareness, which never cease to exist. We
not only continue to exist but continue to return. I no longer believe, I know.

Dr. Schwartz, I didn't have a choice of rating your book with NO stars, so I gave it one. You should be ashamed of yourself for exploiting Allison DuBois and her work with you. How dare you promise confidentiality and then betray the very person one of your books is based on?

              4 out of 5 stars Another Possibility.......2007-04-03

After reading this book I can see how people come to the conclusion the mediums are indeed in contact with the spirit world. I believe some of them are. My personal spiritual impression, and I've sensed this with the TV productions produced with many mediums, is that they really are in touch with these spirits. However, what has come to me is that many of these "peeping spirits" giving information to the mediums are spirits of a malevolent nature, in other words evil spirits. They know more about us than we think and can appear as righteous spirits giving special information that "only the departed loved one would know". They really can impart information about a wedding day, a flower in the hair, or a special event because they (the evil spirits) were there as well.

This doesn't always mean all mediums are deceivers, but they can be duped. And why would these evil spirits want to deceive us? My personal experience has been not to underestimate the ends the adversary of all that is good will go to keep us from focusing on what is really important and developing our faith in God.

Once again, I am not criticizing those who believe these things. It's hard not to believe such things. Just be very careful and understand there is a great deal of ourselves to be lost when we give our faith over to what may turn out to be a very cruel, cosmic hoax.

                    Book Description

In the 1960s, a mining corporation quietly applied to build a road to the base of Castle Peak, located in Idaho's magnificent and pristine White Clouds mountain range. That simple request, initially publicized by the Forest Service, brought a challenge to the Mining Act of 1872 and ignited a controversy that stirred a nation and quite possibly determined the results in Idaho's race for governor in 1970.

The state's long-held stance was that environmental protection and economic expansion were compatible. Yet the issue was not simply wilderness preservation versus industrial development. The enactment of the 1872 Mining Law meant that if prospectors and miners filed claims and if they requested approval to build a road to reach that claim—even on federal land deep within the Challis National Forest—no government official, from the governor of Idaho to federal representatives from the Forest Service, had the power to deny them. Environmental groups were infuriated. One of the first to sound the alarm was the Idaho Alpine Club based in Idaho Falls. The fight was on.

Painstakingly researched, author JM Neil describes how Idaho arrived at the confrontation over the White Clouds in 1970 and how it was finally resolved. He explains how a state particularly jealous of its rights and suspicious of any federal control came to have millions of acres of federally protected wilderness. Neil also covers a surprising range of other topics integral to Idaho conservation history, such as environmental pollution and the Depression era's role in changing Idaho's perception of conservation. From a stance of protecting only animals favored for hunting and fishing and killing those species' predators, to protecting all wild animals, Idaho has vastly changed its position. In addition, through the stories of Shoshone Falls, Heyburn Park, Payette Lakes, the Sawtooth Mountains, Craters of the Moon, Bechler Meadows, and the Idaho Primitive area, the author chronicles the reform in local attitudes toward scenic preservation and and the long history of its game preserves. He also notes the reasons these preservation projects succeeded or failed. "To the White Clouds" provides a fascinating look at how Idaho's approach toward conservation came to be, and the significant impact that the state's related policies have had on residents, influencing the availability of state resources, choices of recreational activities, and even political outcomes.
