WILDCATTER.......2006-05-12
This is an interesting book on a fascinating family. H.L. Hunt was truly one of a kind. At on time he was the richest man in the world and amazingly had three seperate families. His life and that of his children is a case study in Texas Oil Wealth. The Hunts are to Dallas, what the Rockefellers are to New York or the Cabots are to Boston, their name alone means wealth in Dallas. It a shame that all of their money did not create a university or endow a great medical facility, instead they created posh hotels like The Crescent and The Mansion or redevelopment projects like Reunion, all of these ventures where for profit and though they helped retain Dallas' posh image, they really did not effect the average Dallasite. The first family brothers trying to corner the silver market was the height of huburis and they paid a steep price for their arrogance. Ray Hunt of the second family has definitly done the best of the children, he had much less money to work with, but he did the best with what he had and he is worth billions and is the wealthiest of the Hunts, he would have made the old man proud.
Excellent History Of The Hunt Dynsaty!.......2004-12-01
This is a good history of H.L. Hunt as well as some of his
children.Hunt turned a wildcat oil venture into a fortune of several billion dollars. His oil company eventually became Placid Oil.His early days in the oil patch up until the present are given excellent coverage. You are also able to read about
some of his sons who also did well.Lamar was the owner of the
Dallas Texans who became the Kansas City Cheifs.Nelson Bunker
Hunt attempted to corner the silver market that eventually
crashed. His daughter Carolyn became a hotel tycoon. You are also
able to read about his son from the other family Ray who also
became a business leader in Dallas. This is a very good book
that you will enjoy reading.

Product Description
Though best known for its horror films, Hammer produced a wide variety of movies in many genres. The British studio was famous for its exciting stories and expert action-all on very small budgets and short shooting schedules. From The Public Life of Henry the Ninth (1935) to The Lady Vanishes (1978), this is the definitive work on Hammer s 165 films. Complete filmographic data are provided for each film, including release dates in both the United Kingdom and the United States, running time, length, distributor, complete cast and production credits, and alternate titles. These data are followed by an extensive plot synopsis, including contemporary critical commentary and behind-the-scenes information from many of the players and crew members.
Customer Reviews:
Exhaustive indeed.......2006-03-17
As the title says, this is a complete listing of every Hammer Film ever made, including those made under their earlier company names, in chronological order with exhaustive credit and cast listings, detailed synopsis, critique and some historical information for each film. Don't expect a large glossy volume replete with colour stills. Although the text makes an entertaining enough read, the book comes in a plain black cover and the many stills are all in black and white on flat paper stock. This makes it a fairly pricey item at $60 but it probably had a small print run and would be most suited as a reference book for libraries but for Hammer completists or even film fanatics in general it is a must. Highlights are the many original posters that are littered throughout; it is just a pity they are not in colour.
BEST BOOK EVER ON HAMMER FILMS!!!.......2003-05-03
This is, without a doubt, the BEST book ever written on the legendary British film studio best known for their Gothic horror films of the 60's and 70's that starred Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. It is indeed an "exhaustive" scholarly reference book on EVERY film the studio made, not just their horror/ fantasy pics. The authors go year-by-year, and give detailed info about the films, listing complete cast and credits, story synopsis, facts about the making of the movies, reviews and more. Illustrated with many fine b&w stills, this is THE volume to have for any Hammer fan interested in this fine studio and its very impressive output. Many of their films are not just horror classics but FILM CLASSICS as well (i.e., "HORROR OF DRACULA", "QUATERMASS AND THE PIT" and "THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES"). The only negative for me was the fact that the authors see fit, every chance they get, to deify Peter Cushing and harshly criticize Christopher Lee. This appears to be something going on widely amongst Hammer fans and writers, ever since Mr. Cushing died. Cushing's role in the studios success is over-valued and Lee is under-valued. Many people point to the fact that Cushing is billed first in "CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN", "HORROR OF DRACULA" and "THE MUMMY" ahead of Lee to lend weight to their arguement that Cushing made those films the success' they were. The fact is, Cushing was a popular actor at the time in England (gaining fame for a version of "1984" he did on the telly [TV]), and Lee was a struggling, unknown. And many say Lee had only 8 minutes of screen time in the Dracula picture and in "CURSE OF FRANK" didn't even appear until the movie was half over and in "THE MUMMY" he had no dialogue (except the Egyptian mumbo-jumbo in the flashback scenes). Well, as for having little screen time in "HORROR OF DRACULA", what does it matter? He makes a heck of an impression with his limited screen time. After watching the film, the scenes with Dracula really stick in your mind. They are what you remember. And, in fact, someone once said, "There are no small parts, only small actors." Indeed. And I think the creature is an important character in the Frankenstein picture and the mummy is kind of important in a mummy film, don't ya think? In truth, the early Hammer Gothics would not have been the hits they were without Peter Cushing AND Christopher Lee. Those two stars, TOGETHER, made those films and made Hammer a success. End of editorial. All in all, a great book. Buy it and enjoy! - George Bauch.

Book Description
It is the most famous home movie of all time, the most closely analyzed 26 seconds of film ever shot, the most disturbing visual record of what many have called "the crime of the century."
In 486 frames--a mere six feet of celluloid--Abraham Zapruder's iconic film captures from beginning to end the murder of President John F. Kennedy in broad daylight. The film has become nearly synonymous with the assassination itself and has generated decades of debate among conspiracy theorists and defenders of the Warren Commission's official report. Until now, however, no scholar has produced a comprehensive book-length study of the film and its relation to the tragic events of November 22, 1963.
David Wrone, one of our nation's foremost authorities on the assassination, re-examines Zapruder's film with a fresh eye and a deep knowledge of the forensic evidence. He traces the film's forty-year history from its creation on the "grassy knoll" by Dallas dressmaker Zapruder through its initial sale to Life magazine, analysis by the Warren Commission and countless assassination researchers, licensing by the Zapruder family, legal battles over bootleg copies, and sale to the federal government for sixteen million dollars.
Wrone's major contribution, however, is to demonstrate how the film itself necessarily refutes the Warren Commission's lone-gunman and single-bullet theories. The film, he notes, provides a scientifically precise timeline of events, as well as crucial clues regarding the timing, number, origins, and impact of the shots fired that day. Analyzing it frame-by-frame in relation to other evidence--including two key photos by Phil Willis and Ike Altgens--he builds a convincing case against the official findings.
Without fanfare, he concludes that more than three gunshots were fired from more than one direction and that most likely none were fired by alleged assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. If true, then JFK's death was the result of a conspiracy, for the Commission's nonconspiracy conclusion requires a maximum of three shots and one gunman.
Wrone, however, does not speculate as to who actually shot JFK or why--or even if Oswald was involved. In fact, he is just as critical of the legion of conspiracy theorists as he is of the Warren Commission (which, he reveals, crushed dissent within its own ranks).
Doggedly pursuing the evidence wherever it leads, Wrone has produced a meticulous, clear-eyed, and provocative new reading of this remarkable cinematic Rosetta Stone.
Customer Reviews:
Good on the films' history, but highly questionable on conspiracy theories.......2007-04-04
Highly controversial indeed ! I totally agree with one of the reviewers here that it is rather disappointing that we do not get a true break down on what is happening in the key shot sequences of the film i.e. the single bullet theory sequence from Z220 to Z270 approx and head shot sequence Z312 to Z340 approx. And it is quite disappointing too that we do not have the witness list of the people closest to the limousine in Zapruder's film and in fact to know how many came forward and who are not known to this day if any.
It is an interesting read in some ways in that you are given a good history of the film, but the books conclusions around conspiracy are thin and do not stand up to modern day scrutiny in my opinion. One for the collection, but if you are new to the case there are other books which are better read such as Richard Trask's book on the Zapruder film and Mel Ayton's works.
Junk.......2006-03-16
Another attempt to change history at the expense of a tragic day in history. Authors always come out of the woodwork around the anniversary of 11/22/63 and this one is no different than most because it just rehashes the same information into a new "theory" or "myth". Don't waste your time or money on this garbage.
Good, but ULTIMATE SACRIFICE the best book ever .......2005-12-20
Good, but ULTIMATE SACRIFICE the best book ever
While I thought this book was worthwhile in many respects, ULTIMATE SACRIFICE is simply the best book ever on the JFK assassination.Still, worth your time.

A Major Disappointment.......2005-12-15
Finally, a book just about the Zapruder film. Just the Zapruder film. Not. Oh, this is a history of the Zapruder film, and much more. Too much more.
For example, one whole chapter is devoted to "The Man in the Doorway". "Ike" Altgens's famous photograph looking up Elm Street at the limo after the first shot. Wait a minute--wasn't this book supposed to be about the Zapruder film? The Altgens photo is reproduced so small, the head of the man in the doorway can be blocked by a pin. Photos? You ask about photos? Okay, we have 19 B+W photos. Of them 3, yes 3 are photos taken during the assassination. The rest--got two nice pictures of JFK in Fort Worth, a map, a photo of the plaza, LBJ, LHO, Billy Lovelady(2), J. Edgar Hoover (in case you didn't know what he looked like), Deputy AG Katzenbach, Sen. Richard Russell, need I go on? The color section, all Z frames, from 189 to 201, 203,204, 225, 313, and 338 at a half page each! If this film was so important (which it is), give up one frame per page! Other frames are included with partial enlargements (but not 313). And to end up, a fine color picture of the Warren Commission with former President Johnson.
I thought this book would be a fine reference manual on the Zapruder film, telling us what each frame depicts, and to the best of the availible knowledge, who was in each frame as the crowd thinned (the best eyewitnesses to the head shot). Well, it doesn't.
good, not-so-good points made.......2004-11-23
I've followed the assassination from day 1, have read countless books on it---including the Warren commission and Posner---and so, if I come away from a 'new' book feeling I've indeed learned something new, then that book is good-to-excellent. Wrone's book *did* provide new insights that I thought were excellent; for example, a careful reconstruction of Oswald's movements before and during the crime taking into account the so called 'new' evidence which argues he could very well have done all that was alleged in the time frame originally posited by the Warren commission; the deposition of multiple lead fragments not consistent with the several grains of weight lost from the so-called "magic bullet" which was predominantly copper jacketed; the really ambiguous circumstances of how the bullet was found and the chain of custody with which it was passed on through and many other interesting points. However, there were very critical issues ignored and key eyewitness accounts not quoted which suggest the authors' lack of thoroughness and the same old pro-conspiracy conjecture which has marred serious debate of this subject in recent years.
For example, Wrone makes the old argument that a bullet which entered Kennedy's back could not possibly have exited his throat. Unfortunately, a careful review of Kennedy's actual back wound suggests a bullet could very well have lined up perfectly with the proposed wound of exit in Kennedy's throat---in an area which is in the lower third of his neck. One need only visit the JFK Assassination Homepage and examine the left profile of Kennedy lying in death to see how such a trajectory could very well line up. In fact, using Kennedy's ear as a point of reference, a diagram (same homepage) pinpoints the alleged back entry wound and its subsequent exit---again using the post mortem left profile view. One can clearly see that a bullet could have traversed both men as the Warren Commission indeed postulated.
Other speculations loom. For example, Wrone cites the alignment of both victims in the motorcade to refute new assertions that photographic evidence shows Connally to be seated far more to the left of Kennedy (thus accomodating a single bullet path). Wrone stipulates that the photos only show an *earlier* seating alignment of the men and this is supposed to solidly refute the actual seating during the shooting. However, Wrone is trying to prove a negative with another negative; it simply doesn't offer hard proof positive that Connally wasn't still sitting to the left during the shooting sequence.
A more problematic example is Wrone's assertion that for the single bullet to have left "lead" fragments, it *must have* entered Connally in such a way that the bullet turned and the butt end went through part of the torso (since the sides and nose of the bullet were primarily copper and undamaged). However, this 'must have' allusion shows either real or feigned ignorance by the author. The fact is, Connally's back wound was completely consistent with a tumbling bullet---the wound measuring 3cm vertically or the exact length of the bullet itself---a point that Wrone doesn't even address; that this fact could also have explained some of the deposition of lead framgents should have been clearly examined by Wrone. More significant, that a bullet doesn't tumble unless it strikes something first raises serious questions about what, in fact, the single bullet did strike before entering Connally's back; the only object in its path was Kennedy and this presents a serious challenge to the single bullet critics. Incidentally, new tests do show that a bullet fired through bone and other dense objects can emerge in "pristeen" condition when the muzzle velocity is reduced---an assertion that modern critics are now making.
If you're going to write a pro-conspiracy book, you'd better include ALL the evidence both pro and con; Wrone does a fairly good job of presenting detailed evidence of the pros even though here, there are still lapses such as the failure to mention Roger Craig's testimony of having found a German Mauzer in the book depository, or Audrey Bell's eyewitness description of 4 or 5 bullet fragments taken from Connally. But the biggest problem is that Wrone clings to the same old, and in some cases outdated, assertions to dispel the newest computerized and digitalized bullet trajectory assessments, and this suggests either sloppy research, or a bias---neither of which will ever contribute to a better understanding of the JFK puzzle, one way or another.

a super dense collection of valuable tips.......2007-02-15
Lots of wide ranging, useful Intermediate Plus level tips. Of the 557 tips, at least 500 are good, the otehrs are bit too obvious.
Great value for the money. This contains twice as much material as many otehr books, despite its only being 210 pages
Lots of hands with the tip presented, so you can see the tip in action, not just read it.
Kantar is funny as usual. Lots of amusing quips.
The only warning is you will get the most out of this book if you are already familiar with many of these tips. They will reinforce your knowledge.
A very fine book

Customer Reviews:
ok, if you like suckering people out of money.......2005-01-26
Feng Shui, as any educated person knows, is complete BS. Money can be better spent hiring a real designer. The basic idea of the book is to hire someone to 'Feng Shui' the house and mention the word during the sell. Feng Shui is purely an American invention and has no relevance whatsoever. It is dominated by people too stupid to get real training in interior design. Don't be fooled by these con men/women.
The Bottom Line..........2003-08-28
Okay, here's the bottom line: I bought the book. My house had been on the market for four months. I had tried everything (lowered the price twice), fired one agent, hired another, offered incentives, I was about ready to pray to some Catholic saint in charge of selling homes and my real estate agent said, "buy this book." So I did. I did the stuff the quack author recommended (cost me about $$$ and two days of my time) and four days later, the first person to see the house after I made the changes, wrote an offer for full price. I'm not into miracles. Guess that does not matter. The house is now sold. That's the bottom line. Do I recommend this book? Only if you want to sell your house.
McFengshui strikes again........2003-04-07
Another two-day wonder of the feng shui world writes a book that rehashes the advice realtors normally give to clients (before "feng shui" became a meme). The fact that the author reviewed her own book is particularly remarkable. That Lin Yun wrote something is not remarkable, because his dictum is that all of his students should write books about what his church sells as feng shui.
Most realtors are simply waiting for this fad to pass.
Sell Your Home FASTER with FENG SHUI.......2003-01-07
As a Feng Shui Consultant, I met Holly Ziegler at a FS conference. I literally purchased one of the first books off the presses. We were planning to put our house on the market. I read the book, followed Ms Ziegler's suggestions, our house sold in HOURS! I now incorporate these practices when working with clients who are selling homes (and businesses) and have had great success. Ms Ziegler is right on the mark.
Cheers

Dwight Smith's book is very readable bicycling adventure and is a personal, fresh eyewitness account of Dwight's experience cycling around the perimeter of the U.S. Although not published until 20 years after the event and although highly distilled from over 2500 pages of notes to 246 pages digested into 1 and 2 page thumbnails per story, Dwight kept a first hand account by dictating his notes via recorder when his observations were first made.
Unfortunately Dwight plays his cards close to his chest and never really clearly reveals how, when or where he overcame the death of his wife, having been previously battered by the prior accidental deaths of two teenage sons, which losses he seemed to have never completely dealt with until possibly the bicycle trip. We really don't know how Dwight cycled through loss to renewal, although it is clear that he did. Hence, the reader feels cheated by the subtitle. Dwight never admits to nor reveals any kind of epiphany, healing moment or realization of healing. You will not learn how Dwight healed by reading this book. One also wonders why his new love, Elizabeth, never fully flowered, when obviously there was considerable mutual attraction and regard. Elizabeth sort of appears as part of the renewal without much explanation and fades away with a similar lack of explanation. Nor is Elizabeth's part in the renewal described or even explored. It's like your child telling you half the story and you both know it.
A nice book on bicycling, an anecdotal and idosyncratic description of a very small part of American society (when he described my hometown, his description hardly captured who we are), and a nondisclosure or nonstory of a man's travel from loss to renewal.

Some will see this as an interesting story concerning one man's ride around the perimeter of America. Most will find in these pages, the story of how a man faced some of the most discouraging challenges life presents and worked through them. Dwight Smith writes about his journey in a manner that is as interesting as it is inspirational.
Terrific read.......2004-10-24
This book has some of everything. As he cycles around the perimeter of the U.S. (he was in his sixties, so that is incredible), he describes a lot about the environment and the people he meets. It is amazing all the different climates, weather patterns, cultures, fears, beliefs, and animals there are in this country. There is also interesting info about "Old Faithful" his bike, how he took care of it, and prepared for the trips. This book is amazing.
Old Faithful and Dwight.......2004-05-10
One Mile at a Time is a unique chronicle of the cycling journey of a man in his 60's who decides to take a ride around the perimeter of the U.S. after enduring tragic family losses. Smith used a throat mike while he was riding, thereby adding a fresh perspective to his descriptions. His dry humor and broad-minded outlook on our country is not only entertaining but also thought-provoking. The physical and mental stamina required to complete such a journey is inspiring and will make the reader want to drag his/her bike out of the dusty, old garage and take a spin - at least around town.

Book Description
In this important work of historical restoration, Amos Elon shows how a persecuted clan of cattle dealers and wandering peddlers was transformed into a stunningly successful community of writers, philosophers, scientists, tycoons, and activists. In engaging, brilliantly etched portraits of Moses Mendelssohn, Heinrich Heine, Karl Marx, Hannah Arendt, and many others, Elon traces how a small minority came to be perceived as a deadly threat to German national integrity.

Simply Marvelous.......2007-09-17
The author describes the history of German Jewry in such an eloquent, informed and story-telling way that is just fascinating. Easy to read too. Excellent buy.
Historical Gem.......2007-08-23
This book depicts details of life of the Jewish people in Germany from the two centuries preceding the Holocaust, including well researched reasons for the assimilation processes and conversions that took place, details of the literary and scientific contributions, and the political and societal contexts surrouding Jewish life in Germany. Many fascinating facts abund that makes this a gem of historical detective work, well written, and difficult to put down. You know how it all ends, hence the title. This is the best non-fiction book I have read in a long time.
Magnificently Researched and Written.......2007-07-30
One immediately thinks of paralells with the last centuries of Jewish life in Spain. High levels of acculturation leading to complete assimilation. The "loophole" was a simple one - conversion. As such it was the admissions ticket to acceptance and opportunity yearned for by German Jews. For the Jews of Spain the ending was the inquisition and expulsion of 1492. For the Jews of Germany the result was annihilation in a different, more terrible way. Elon is a master writer and thinker.
A must read for every Jew who cares about Jewish continuity.......2007-05-13
My take on this book is simple: If you don't respect and live within your own roots and culture, don't expect anyone else to respect you either.
Be a proud Jew. That simple.
Profound.......2007-04-17
This well researched history of what finally resulted in what happened after 1939 is profound and enlightening. It certainly brings up the issue of minority cultures trying to assimilate into the majority culture and if that is possible. The irony is that the German Jews thought they were German.

Book Description
What if a criminal cabal (a white collar crime syndicate) took over the US Government?
Al Martin's shocking memoir, "The Conspirators: Secrets of an Iran Contra Insider," is the true story of how it happened. It's an uncensored and unprecedented revelation of Bush Family frauds and other criminal activities.
Government whistleblower Al Martin, a retired US Navy Lt. Commander, explains the interactions of criminal corporate and government networks. He tells the facts and names the names no one has dared write or publish before.
"The Conspirators" is the hidden history of government fraud and corruption.
Al Martin's eyewitness accounts include first hand knowledge of US Government sanctioned narcotics trafficking, illicit weapons deals and an epidemic of fraud -- corporate securities fraud, real estate fraud, banking fraud and insurance fraud.
Now with the Bush Cabal back in power, the losses for taxpayers are in the hundreds of billions of dollars. And the losses continue to mount daily.

Spoonfed critics.......2006-02-04
This book is fantastic! There is so much going on inside this book, you almost need to chart it, and maybe you should if you have an interest in these subjects. Sure many things seem untenable as they don't fit into our little world concept of should be's, but the unimaginable is only a limit for those who cannot openly think.
Although we all have a right to our opinions, I wish more people would research and connect ideas, thoughts and facts rather than espouse what they have been told or not researched themselves.
I blame Halliburton..........2005-10-06
Nothing more than paranoid conspiracy theorist ramblings. Poorly written, providing no verifiable supporting evidence. If this vast conspiracy reached so far and resulted in the "accidental deaths" of so many people who knew too much, then how exactly was Al Martin able to write and publish this book without ending up in a shallow grave next to Jimmy Hoffa?
The Conspirators.......2005-08-12
This book is a sensationalized report of the Iran-contra affairs. Its author seeks to shock the reader of the government's misconduct. There is very little historical, methodical, or academic virtue to this book. It's for sheer shock and awe, which can easily be taken from serious book like Theodor Draper's A Very Thin Line.
A MUST READ for those who care about democracy!!.......2004-07-11
The Conspirators by Al Martin was ranked #1 by myself in my Lone Nutter News e-zine. I have reviewed dozens and dozens of conspiracy books over the years and this one tops the list for the obvious reason that Al Martin has the courage to name the names behind some of the most corrupt cabals imaginable. Disgusting yet a MUST READ for any one who cares about democracy, our constitutional rights not to mention human dignity as well.
Read it for yourself to discover why I ranked it NUMBER ONE!

A shocking expose written by an insider.......2004-06-12
Written by a retired US Navy Lt. commander and former officer in the Office of Naval Intelligence, The Conspirators: Secrets Of An Iran-Contra Insider is the gripping true narrative of a white-collar crime system's involvement in the U.S. Government. Exposing fraud, corruption, government-sanctioned narcotics trafficking, illegal weapons deals, and much more, The Conspirators does not hesitate to name its accused in its cry for justice. A shocking expose written by an insider to government misdeeds and wrongdoing.

Book Description
The wildlife management controversy over the deer on the Kaibab Plateau, north of the Grand Canyon, remains one of the best-known examples of nature's balance being upset by human efforts to protect a certain aspect of nature. The controversy involves an apparent deer population explosion and crash on the Kaibab Plateau in the 1920s, which was initially blamed on the removal of natural predators.
In the first comprehensive account of the Kaibab deer controversy, Christian C. Young describes the interactions, rivalries, and conflicts between state and federal agencies, scientists, nature lovers, conservationists, and hunters. Young blends a contextualized history of events with a new and more useful understanding about the promise of scientific knowledge in the face of factual uncertainty and public controversy.
Scientists and historians have used this case to illustrate the difficulties of controlling wild populations. Their message is typically one of failure, and the reason most often given centers on our lack of knowledge of the natural world. As such, the burden of failure seems to rest on scientists, who work diligently but always seem to offer too little too late in the way of practical advice. Since our knowledge of the natural world will always be incomplete, Young argues that our ability to investigate nature requires flexible and interactive management plans. He shows how earlier "truths" learned on the Kaibab came to be recognized as myths and offers a compelling lesson about how science and society interact within challenging contexts of disagreement.
