How many times has someone tried to console you by saying, "That's the way the cookie crumbles"? The message implies that whatever we were hoping for was destined to crumble and fall apart. "Well, that logic just doesn't hold water," claims Wally Amos, author of The Cookie Never Crumbles. "It totally slanders the nature of the cookie. When the cookie breaks apart, you don't lose that cookie, you get lots of little cookies." Amos excels at this sort of optimistic, kitchen-table wisdom, as evidenced by the success of his previous book, The Famous Amos Story, which tells the story of building his cookie empire. (Although it's probably safe to assume that cowriter Eden-Lee Murray has perfected the cozy style of writing.) Written in a cookbook format, the narrative often crumbles into clichés. In his opening chapter, "Essential Ingredients for Your Personal Pantry," he includes the "Basics," such as "Honesty, Integrity, Positive Loving Attitude...." Yet his "Recipe for Recovery" is a poignant observation on how to rebuild after disaster strikes. Like the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, this is a spiritually safe book--nondenominational, inoffensive, and full of tasty, inspirational morsels. There are even a few real cookie recipes, such as "Classic Chocolate Chip and Pecan Cookies and "Courage Coconut Cookies." --Gail Hudson
Book Description
Inspiring stories show readers how adversarial situations are often blessings in disguise. Wally Amos made his name creating Famous Amos cookies, learning many business and life lessons along the way, like expect lumps and use lots of nuts. Neale Donald Walsch, in his foreword, says, This book....lifts my soul and lightens my burden. Humorous, charming, and practical, this book is for anyone who wants to find wisdom from the ordinary things in life.

Insightful book ....if Only!.......2006-07-22
Just finished reading such an inspiring book by Wally Amos. My husband and I have been self employed since we have been married (32 years now). I so thoroughly connected with the wonderful advice Wally spoke of. His personality reminded me so much of my husbands who also is a great one for turning lemons into lemonade. After visiting the "chip and cookie" website I must say Geez I know Christine must be a loving and strong women in her own right. It just would have been nice had she also been African American
Extraordinary Vision from an Extraordinary Man!.......2002-05-05
The Cookie Never Crumbles is the manual on how to live an extraordinary, abundant, loving life. What flows from Wally's heart is nothing less than the secret ingredients of living. I keep this book nearby when I need to find my center in courage, joy, compassion and gratitude. I am so blessed to call Wally Amos my friend.
A Phenomenal Book To Uplift and Inspire!.......2001-12-15
This is a terrific book Wally! I'm moved by your passion and determination to see life at its best and not its worst.
This book will inspire people to look past their challenges and forge forth toward their future. Keep making those cookies for life no matter how many may crumble!

Bite Size Morsels--Still Delicious.......2001-11-30
I so enjoyed this book. I read spiritually and emotionally uplifting materials all the time. Some are sooooo heavy. And I must admit that sometimes I need the weight of the information, in the same way that I need and enjoy Thanksgiving dinner. But Wally's book is pure dessert, just like his cookies. When I need a quick energy lift I return to his book. I not only found myself vicariously enjoying the honest and fun loving individual, Wally (Famous) Amos, but I felt that I met a soul mate...a lover of life and a believer in the positive powers of the universe.
I have to admit, he should have written the book sooner. He might have saved my marriage. When he speaks of the process and power of his determination and commitment to keeping his marriage in tact inspite of some "infractions" I realized the impact positive, powerful, decisive action can make.
I share excerpts of the book with my graduate students(educators who are stressed). I give them bite size pieces of positive energy at the beginning or ending of the class. That way they can begin the session or end it with a smile.
I do plan to try the recipe for his famous cookies for Christmas. I'll be glad to let you know if they turn out famously.
Just like A Bad Cookie.......2001-09-28
This book is just like a bad cookie. The material is stale, bland and crumbles to pieces when the reader searches for an in-depth understanding of the issues that are discussed. Wally is no doubt a good businessman and his cookies do mealt in your mouth, but this book mealts in your hand because it is so bad!

Book Description
This volume summarizes the career from 1940 to 1982 of the American modern dancer and choreographer Daniel Nagrin. Until 1956, he performed in musical theater on Broadway, and from 1948 to 1982 he toured as a solo artist and itinerant teacher. Nagrin's remarkable stage and studio activities catalogued here reveal his unusual contribution to American dance history.
Book Description
Popular culture used to reflect the values of America. No longer. Now it is a voracious beast of materialism, celebrity and excess that shapes those values to meet its own greedy needs. Every day your children are bombarded with sexually explicit music, violent movies and video games, shock radio, Internet chat rooms
the list goes on and on. You know this onslaught hurts your kids, and you want to do something to protect them. The reality is that your children's defense against popular culture starts inside your homewith you!
In Your Children Are Under Attack, psychologist and national parenting expert Dr. Jim Taylor exposes how and why today's popular culture is destroying your children's values. Popular culture takes the most despicable valuesavarice, selfishness, gluttony, intolerance, deceit, and many othersand makes them admirable, all to sell more products to unsuspecting children.
Dr. Taylor also describes how you can fight back and win this war for your kids. Your Children Are Under Attack shows you how, by focusing on six core values that popular culture works hardest to destroy:
* Respect that is earned, not entitled * Responsibility for oneself rather than blaming others * Success that isn't linked to wealth or fame * Happiness that can't be bought * Family that strengthens America's values * Compassion rather than indifference
Your Children Are Under Attack helps you identify and reconnect with your values, and make those values the guiding forces in your children's lives. Dr. Taylor shows how your own highest values can help your family resist popular culture's assault and provides you with a reliable road map to lead your children to a solid future as successful, happy, and contributing adults.
This powerful book shows you how to instill these six values (and many others) in your children so they become their own. By making these values a focus in your home, you can ally yourself with your children to create a united front against popular culture's siege.
Dr. Taylor gives you the tools to do this in ways that are clear, practical and grounded in the real world of 21st-century parenting. And they're as effective as they are surprising:
* Feel unconditional love for your children, but don't always express unconditional love * Don't be your children's friend * Your children need to fail to succeed * Happiness is experienced, not pursued * And many more
In the battle for your children's future, Your Children Are Under Attack gives you the power to protect your children and ensure that they grow up to be positive, strong, safe, and caring people in a world that has never been more dangerous.

Founder, Parental Wisdom, Inc........2007-03-04
As I started to read this book, I began highlighting Dr. Taylor's statements, until it quickly became apparent that I would be highlighting the entire book.
I found myself saying, "Yes, I get it now!" as Dr. Taylor explained how even good media can teach bad habits. Parents will feel empowered after reading this book to take a stand in the war being waged against our families.
A book whose time has come.......2006-09-23
Your Children Are Under Attack takes a frighteningly honest look at one of today's most dangerous social diseases: popular culture's battle for control of our children's hearts and minds. Dr. Taylor exposes the ugly war of greed that marketers and the media have been waging on our young, and the spell it has also cast over parents. Step-by step, with the skill of a researcher, the compassion of a wizened therapist, and the heart of a principled human being, he examines each of these unhealthy forces and shows us how to protect our children from this assault and its subsequent ruinous effect on our values. Well-written, poignant, and forceful, Dr. Taylor's work stands as a call to action that comes not a moment too soon. The first step every responsible parent should take to win back control of their children is to read Dr. Taylor's book.
Insightful and Empowering.......2006-07-26
Dr. Taylor identifies the true enemy that is after your child - and gives solid, practical advice on how to protect them from it. In the ever broadening spectrum of pop culture, if you don't have a careful hand in raising your kids, the media will gladly do it for you. Empowering, insightful and straight to the point, Dr. Taylor puts parenting back in the hands of where it belongs.
The News is Grim, but There's Hope.......2006-01-25
It was 1960 on the stage of "Bye Bye Birdie" when actor Paul Lynde, playing Mr. Henry McAfee, shouted out to his audience saying, "Kids! I don't know what's wrong with these kids today!"
Toward the end of his barrage, he finally asked, "Why can't they be like we were, perfect in every way? What's the matter with kids today?"
Dr. Jim Taylor, in his book "Your Children are Under Attack: How Popular Culture is Destroying Your Kids' Values, and How You Can Protect Them," addresses this age-old question with an answer: popular culture is devastating our lives.
Video games, too much TV, corporate fraud, materialism, the inundation of information from the Internet, the unreasonable emphasis on physical attractiveness, plus the lack of physical activity leading to childhood obesity -- these are endangering our children and our culture.
Throughout the book, Taylor's theme never waivers. "The messages that American popular culture communicate to children today are in direct conflict with what is best for them," he writes. "Popular culture is now a truly counterproductive force in families' lives...."
Taylor believes that those who in past generations were institutional partners with parents such as the government, corporate America and even our schools have themselves given in to the illusory promises of instant gratification and the almighty "bottom line."
Parents are left standing alone between their children and millions of images from TV, DVDs, XBoxes, etc.
Taylor believes modern pressures lead to lazy parenting - raising children "in the most convenient way" because adults are exhausted and overwhelmed by the pace and impact of everyday life.
The message is grim, but Taylor offers hope. Taylor explains how families can make their values clear, communicate them to one another, and live discriminating lives aware yet distanced from the dangers of pop culture.
For example, he gives straight-forward language parents can use to guide their children toward making safe, sound decisions.
He also gives parents permission to say no to pop culture and to band together with those of like minds to create safe, nurturing environments for their families -- places that do not focus on self-serving ends but that foster compassion, confidence, and kindness.
Our American Culture-Lunacy at Work.......2005-10-20
Dr. Jim Taylor has written a book that needs to be written. Parents, teachers and interested individuals need to be aware as to what our Ameican culture is doing to our children and the values that are being propogated. Dr. Taylor exposes what messages the " media " are sending. Dr. Taylor shows what values corporations in America are esposing. He knows that greed, corruption, materialism and just plain stupidity are out there on our television sets, magazines and what values permeate our culture. Taylor knows what a steady diet of The Osbournes, Friends and of course Paris Hilton will do. We all need to be aware of the messages that are sent to our children on a daily basis and how these messages influence our kids and our culture. Instead of integrity, cleavage is respected in American society. Instead of honor and truth, mascara and designer jeans are extolled as being important. More than ever, parents need to work at discussing values, things of importance and integrity with their children. Parents who do want to help raise their children should read this. Teachers who want to understand the values of their students should read this. And lastly greedy, money hungry corporate American leaders should read this and understand what their crass commercialism is doing to America.

Tough and good.......2007-05-15
Harder than most of his other books on play. The emphasis is on counting and visualization, not some exotic squeeze.
There are 100 hands, 50 declarer and 50 defense. The problems are paired in the sense that each "theme" is presented once as a declarer play problem and then later as a defense hand, with teh hands slightly changed.
Emphasis on counting, reading signals, visualization, and thinking about how the play will unfold. Will pard be endplayed? Is forcing declarer a good idea (maybe he's trying a trump coup).
Excellent book for avnaved players or ambitious Intermedaites
Good collection of problems.......2007-02-15

Customer Reviews:
I thought I was an expert - what a fun book!.......2003-06-20
This book gave me tons of new ideas about how to shop on ebay. I didn't know that I could buy such interesting items - Pizza? It's written in an easy to read style, and I actually laughed out loud while I was reading it. Some of the stuff I knew, but I really learned a lot about the different areas of ebay that I hadn't visited before. I also found some new ideas on how to get deals. It's a fun book at a great price, I'm giving it as a holiday gift to all my friends who are always asking me about ebay.
Fun Book!.......2003-06-17
This book is different that a lot of the other eBay stuff available. It's more like a value guide. There's a lot of insight into finding cheap prices and bidding to keep prices low in here. I especially like the insight on finding travel bargains and cheap business wear, two of my favorite things to buy on eBay.
Great idea!.......2003-06-14
I've been shopping on eBay (as well as Amazon :-) for years. But my mother and mother-in-law are both novices. They're always bugging me with, "What's this eBay thing? What can I get on there? My friend completed her discontinued china set on eBay.." All with the gist of "How can I do this too." As soon as I saw this book was coming out, I picked up two copies of it (mother in laws are rarely great sharers) and gave it to them. Finally! They get what eBay is all about. They know how to set up their user accounts, how the "store" is laid out, how to uncover the best deals and, most importantly for them, how to stay safe when buying on eBay. Now, they're ready to get off and running. In fact, they picked up so much great information, they even taught me a few things (no more staying up late waiting for an auction to end in order to swoop in with the best bid!) This book is great! It's an easy read, and you can jump around to find the points that are most relevant to you. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to become an eBay power shopper.

An Amazing Life Story.......2004-02-26
This book is a wonderfully informative and touching story of a great and honorable man. Through Totch we learn of a nearly forgotten way of life and we see the Everglades as it used to be. I appreciate his honesty and plainspokeness and I'm thankful Totch made this book to preserve an important history. I also recommend the three movies made about him: Totch Brown's tales of the Everglades and 10,000 islands, The Everglades outlaw Totch Brown, and Yesterday's Everglades.
South Florida revisited.......2002-08-30
Any south Florida history buff will want to add "Totch' to their collection.
Totch a Life in the Everglades.......2001-10-12
Don't be misled by Peter Matthiessen's forward, this one is not for the ecologically friendly faint-of-heart. Totch was a one man ecological disaster, constantly on the move wrecking havoc on the wildlife wherever he went. His life of slaughtering animals for personal profit was a willful life choice, hardly dictated by the times, as he claims in his self-serving attempts to justify his pogrom against nature. His self-indulgence was carried to the extreme by illegally poaching thousands of alligators in the protected Everglades National Park in defiance of the laws of man and nature. The purpose for his illegal acts was personal profit, to skin the animals, only using their hides. Their dead carcasses, several hundred in a period of a few days, were dumped into the water to rot. This was hardly an act of survival. He did this because he wanted to, not because he had to. There are several other books, more accurate, better written, and less self-centered, that better describe the early pioneers of Southwest Florida. Rather than augment Totch's bloody legacy by buying his book, I encourage readers interested in the Everglades to look elsewhere, and leave Totch's book describing his carnage against nature to rot, like one of his skinned alligator carcasses, on the ash pile of despicable acts by the self-indulgent.
A view into the past..........1999-12-14
Totch is a fascinating book written in a natural writer's style illustrating how it really was down in the islands. The chapters not only offer us the life of Totch Brown but share photos and history unmatched in any other source I have found. Any reader interested in Florida history and/or anyone who was mesmerized by Peter Matthiessen's trilogy (Killing Mister Watson, Lost Man's River, and Bone by Bone) will revel in this book's information. The photographs add so much to the story offering a glimpse at this rather mysterious corner of Southwest Florida (where else, for example, can one see a photo of Ted Smallwood's store as it looked at the turn of the century?). I read it cover to cover without putting it down, and I turn to it often for Florida history/environmental/sociology information. A great find for any lover of Florida history! Totch offers us all a real glimpse into the lives and lore of inordinately tough, brave people who were real pioneers in a little known and enigmatic part of America.
A wonderful account of yesterday's Everglades & its people!.......1999-05-23
Peter Matthiessen, author of "Killing Mr. Watson," and a master in is on right, is definitely on the mark in describing Loren G. "Totch" Brown as "a natural-born story-teller." A wonderful account of yesterday's Everglades & its people, "Totch, A life in the Everglades" is so colorful and entertaining you'll almost feel the need to keep the mosquito repellent handy while reading it.

Eugen Weber.......2005-12-21
If you are interested, Eugen Weber has recorded 15 hours of lectures on the Western Tradition on the following site
learner.org in the social studies category. He is fascinating to listen to and I really suggest having a look.
Insight Into History.......2000-04-04
This book is a list of primary sources on the major events of European History from the Renaissance to the present. Weber does a good job of presenting balanced viewpoints (except maybe in the case of evolution, where he's definitely pro) The works are a bit dry, but that's not his fault. Plus, he gives a quick summary of each author before presenting his work. Perfect for AP classes (as practice for DBQs)

Sources of Western Tradition.......2007-08-23
It was rather slow in arriving, but the price was good and the quality was fine (it was a new book).
Book Description
Introduces the embracing world-concept long sought by scientists, mystics, and sages: an Integral Theory of Everything
⢠Explains how modern science has rediscovered the Akashic Field of perennial philosophy
⢠Reveals how the universe stores a record of all that is happening and has ever happened on Earth and throughout the cosmos
⢠Explores the origins, role, and future of life and consciousness in the universe
Mystics and sages have long maintained that there exists an interconnecting cosmic field at the roots of reality that conserves and conveys information, a field known as the Akashic record. Recent discoveries in the new field of vacuum physics now show that this Akashic field is real and has its equivalent in the zero-point field that underlies space itself. This field consists of a subtle sea of fluctuating energies from which all things arise: atoms and galaxies, stars and planets, living beings, and even consciousness. This zero-point Akashic-field--or âA-fieldâ-- is not only the original source of all things that arise in time and space; it is also the constant and enduring memory of the universe. It holds the record of all that ever happened in life, on Earth, and in the cosmos and relates it to all that is yet to happen.
Scientist and philosopher Ervin Laszlo conveys the essential element of this vision of the âinformed universeâ in language that is accessible and clear. The informed universe lends credence to our deepest intuitions of the oneness of life and the whole of creation. We discover that, as philosopher William James stated, âwe are like islands in the sea, separate on the surface but connected in the deep.â

An excellent intro to holistic philosophy.......2007-09-14
A superb book on holistic philosophy. The article by Dr Peter Teiman, "holism and gestaldt"discusses the more philosophical aspects, yet this book looks at holism from the philosophical as well as physics and psychological perspectives.
Dr Peter Teiman
Switzerland
clear, coherent, and concise........2007-06-22
finally, a coherent study of the bridge between the concept of the 'a-field' and the current developments in physics which may support these theories. simple enough to make sense to a non-scientist, but certainly detailed and thorough enough to satisfy an intelligent inquisitor. another excellent work from ervin laszlo.
Revolutionary Thinking.......2007-05-06
Mind-blowing concepts which force us to question our understanding of the "real world."
Technical.......2007-05-06
Not a bad book, but rather technical for my liking. This book is more for the chemist than the alchemist (if you know what I mean). I agree with the reviewer BJ Day, the spiritually esoteric aspects of the Akashic record was not touched upon at all. The closest he came to this, was mentioning how "Native Tribes were able to communicate beyond the range of human eye and ear. At times entire cultures were able to share information among themselves, even though they were not in any known form of contact with each other". Maybe Ervin Laszlo will give more of that in his 2nd edition (May 2007). He has a pretty impressive resume, and a interesting surname.
Why stop at the akashic ?.......2007-05-02
A very great scholarly book but i was a bit dissapointed with the conclusions he reached. he is coming from a scientific background and only very carefully concedes anything that might be labelled spiritualistic. That is fair enough ... keeps us from going off the rails completely but sometimes i wish great scholars wouldn't be so rigid. Sometimes academia gets in the way of other, far more intuitive and (ironically) RATIONAL conclusions. However, he does have the very great virtue of scientific rigour, so that you know if he admits for example telepathy into his discourse, that it must be solid.
He explains how information is transferred instantaneously
during phenomena like the quantum spook 'action at a distance' and telepathy (which he readily admits into his framework), and then poses the question 'how' is the information transferred , given that it must be faster than the speed of light. He also marvels at the level of 'coherence'
between organisms such as ourselves and our envoirnment, and again points to feedback loops and systems theory (covered very well by the way in
fritjof capras 'web of life').
Again the big question is 'how' - how does the information get 'fed back' so quickly on natures broadband, so to speak, in order to maintain such a high level of coherence. This points convincingly to another type of 'connectivity' - not translatory across a surface, but vertically towards a common center (in this case an omnipresent etheric, or common field sustaining and informing the observable world). The idea of the ether raises its head again and, inspite of mitchelson&morley it is very plausable. (incidentally, according to nature magazine, this was revisited in 1986 and traces of etheric wind WERE found, using more sensitive equipment. Where was the huge sensational reaction in the scientific community ? .... this is what i mean about scientific rigidity, or fear of ridicule).
This is how the book starts out, and it is very exciting, and then he goes on to posit the existence of the akashic field (read 'etheric field', vacumn or zero point field) which mystics and spiritual teachers have always maintained.
This field would explain neatly a range of phenomena - just like Lynn
mcTaggarts book 'the field' - in fact, basically, at this point he has just caught up with McTaggart.
I was then hoping he would maybe explore the possibilities of the other fields (or plenums / planes) , just as the esoteric literature tells us - ie. the astral plane, the mental plane, the causal plane etc. but he stops at the akashic. (in fairness, as a scientist he had to).
From there he says it is an information reservoir that 'informs' the physical world of phenomena, storing the information holographically in wave patterns - and that everyones conscious experience is stored there for everyone else to tap into ... (reminded me abit of Carlos Casteneda and the eagle devouring our awareness at the point of death).
The thing that dissapointed me is that he was dismissive of reincarnation and the idea of a soul existing as an entity within the field as 'unlikely' without giving any further explanation. He said that peoples experience of past lives were actually people just tapping into the field of all experience in a manner not unlike radio reception - ie. you pick up on the frequencies that resonate with your own. The consious experiences are recorded there , but there is no trace of the agent who put them there .... abit like the song being immortalised when burned (encoded) onto the cd , but the cd burner (the agent) itself dissapates)...The obvious extension of that analogy is who or what is the listener to the cd's ?
At the end of it all , and after many iterations of universal creation, all of the fields potential gets realised (in the form of these holographic, soliton like, patterns) and this is equivalent to all of the possibilities inherent within the mind of god becoming realised - or god has become self realised through us as his agents (yes ... very like the eagle devouring the awareness at the point of death). All the different possible permutations and combinations , that exist as potential , do eventually get materialised (or 'made observable') and their exact details get recorded in this field. Thus both the being and the becoming are in there (as they would have to be if they exist as potential within the mind of god) ... BUT, here he seems to take the path of the materialist when he seems to suggest that these wave patterns ARE the very mind of god. There is something missing in this picture ... it is like having a cd and no listener.
The esoteric literature would appear to suggest that we may well be thoughts in the mind of god, and that we are exactly as immortal as this gods mind is - no less. We don the clothes of many etheric planes (giving us for example a mental body and an astral body as well as the outward physical body), but we remain that immortal spark, that static point in eternity. The creative forces of the universe are inherent in us as much as in any God - at the level of our eternal core, it is we ourselves (as one) who spin the web of the outer worlds, including the sheath known as the akashic field.
Why can't there be other 'higher' agents, such as the soul and the monad within what the author has termed the akashic field ? Why does he just dismiss the idea of the soul incarnating as 'unlikely', and instead postulate something far more requiring of a leap of faith - ie. the cd's without a listener ? It could be a case of bringing a bit of scientific scepticism to bear , just for the sake of it , in order to compensate for the giant step taken in the direction of spirituality - so as not to TOTALLY alienate himself from his peers.
Its still a great work though - just a pity he restrained himself from going the whole hog.
Esoteric literature on the otherhand seems to maintain that we ARE immortal ... that we form collectively the mind of god, and that these forms are structured in a certain way (for example the numbers 3 and 7 seem to feature pretty heavily in the picture, as well as recursivity (galaxies of galaxies type of thing). The personality is the agent of the soul, and the soul is the agent of the monad. The soul spawns many personalities over many lifetimes(these do dissipate back into the field) and collects the conscious experience of each (this is the eagle). After a while the soul no longer needs the experience of physical matter ... its agent (the personality) is a perfected instrument and carries out the souls purpose in matter - just as the sculptors art eventually takes form through the heavy medium of marble, the souls vibration achieves a true and faithful expression in the world of matter. The personality is dispensed with and you just have a soul operating in the world. Eventually in a similar manner the soul itself is absorbed back into the monad ... and so on as long as there is freedom of thought within the mind of god, the process goes on and on - it is eternity itself. The mortality or immortality of the self would appear to be a question of identification ... if i identify myself with my personality, then i get a different answer than if i identify myself with my soul. In the second case i (soul) will survive death, in the first case (personality) no. Similarly at another level you would need to identify with the monad to get the happy answer. i think jesus identified with the very force of life itself (the father) ... and thus knew for certain that he was exactly as immortal as the creative forces themselves. One thing that can't be created is creativity itself - it has to preceed the creation, and thus the creative forces of the universe are immortal.

Book Description
This book presents a major new study of the potential for a "sustainable economy" in Norway. With support from the Research Council of Norway and the Ministries of Finance and the Environment, the research team structured a dialogue between leading economists, environmental NGO's and politicians. The goal of the project was to integrate ecological indicators proposed by a so-called "Green Parliament" into the macro-economic models and projections used by the Official governmental planning apparatus. The book recounts in detail the structure of the project and the results of the analysis, laying particular weight on the fact that a more sustainable economy is clearly possible without a serious disruption of consumption of welfare. The implications of factoring in more stringent ecological demands for a number of sectors are explored, providing thereby specific parameters and scenarios for a more sustainable economy.
