Book Description
This is the story of the chase for an elusive dream, the Stanley Cup. Pierre Turgeon has always been an achiever, a winner, first as the star pitcher on a little league baseball team from Rouyn-Noranda, Canada that went to the semi-finals of the Little League World Series to being picked first overall in the NHL Entry Draft. What more could a French Canadian hockey player desire than being the captain of the Montreal Canadiens, playing the last game in the famed Montreal Forum and opening a new facility, the Molson Center? Pierre Turgeon will tell you that although that was the event he will never forget, the Stanley Cup is his goal. Three of Pierre's childhood friends have Stanley Cup rings. But, this is also the story of a young man that has had to struggle to make his presence known in a game full of vocal stars. Pierre is a quiet, unassuming guy, who works hard, makes plays and puts the puck in the net. Pierre, a French speaking Canadian, has struggled ! all of his professional career with the difficulties of dealing with the media and coaches in a second language. This problem has contributed to the lack of publicity that his hockey achievements deserve.
Customer Reviews:
An Excellent Book for All Hockey Fans.......1999-08-14
I would reccommend this book to any hockey fan. I think that Pierre Turgeon is one of the most underrated players in the NHL. Every year he is among the scoring leaders in the league. The media always make negative comments about him saying that he is a soft player, he has no heart or intensity and chokes in the playoffs. This book helps to contradict those ideas by showing that he is a determined and competitive player focused on winning, even if he is not the most phsyical player in the game. This is a story about a player who has faced criticism throughout his career, much of it undeserved, and has went on to have a successful career.

Excellent book.......2005-07-26
This well written, well thought out book uses the archetypes of mythology (Campbell, Jung, etc) and uses them to help us understand the importance of myths as they apply to the modern world. Stone's films are some of the best examples of modern mythology and have a heightened sense of realism. This approach contributes to a new and maybe better understanding of his movies. I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates mythology or the films of Oliver Stone. I think he is one of our finest modern-day storytellers.
Combines academic and non-academic perspectives.......1997-12-13
Ms. Mackey-Kallis apparently comes from an academic perspective, as she weaves a variety of interdisciplinary theories (mass communication theory, film studies, etc.) while still drawing from imagery that is understandable to non-academics. If you want to understand the theory behind the creativity of Oliver Stone, you'll want to read this book.

Book Description
Often, parts of the marijuana plant such as leaf or trim are discarded because they are lower in THC content and unappetizing to smoke. The second title in the Ask Ed series, Marijuana Gold: Trash to Stash shows how to rescue these unused parts of the plant by processing them to increase concentration, or by using alternate methods of consumption to rescue them from inadvertent waste. With photographs, illustrations and his usual expertise, Ed Rosenthal tells you how to get the most mileage from a personal stash.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent resource.......2007-07-17
This book will save you a lot of surfing through mediocre web sites.
The recipes are simple and easy to follow, and explained by just enough science to make it all interesting and reasonable. Every section includes a list of relevant internet resources, such as where to get supplies. Potential pitfalls and dangers are carefully noted. It's brief, but to-the-point and smartly written.
Imagine the delightful home industries that will spring up when this stuff becomes legal again! I hope I live to see it.
* * * * * Great Book for Stoners! * * * * *.......2004-07-23
Trash to stash was incredibly informative and easy to read. I enjoyed the hi-resolution images and the detailed descriptions of each process. I had fun learning about how to convert what I would normally throw away (clippings, leaf, shake, and stems) into something that will get me high. I also liked reading about vaporization; it?s cool to know there are ways to inhale/ingest that are much healthier and easier on the lungs. It was nice seeing reviews and comparisons of the different vaporizers, because it gave me the ability to know what I want before I buy. There are also extensive sections on cooking, tincture making, and tea brewing. Specifically, I really liked the detailed instructions concerning hashish (many different ways to make!) and keif, I love the smell of fresh keif in the morning (hello green bud O?s!).
Trash to Stash is a definite thumbs up; no stoner should be without it!
Definitely a need-to-have book.......2004-02-14
Look at this book and you will get so excited about everything you can do with your stash, especially the leftover trim and leaf. There's stuff in here you've never thought about and stuff you have thought about but didn't how to do- how to make pills, tinctures, butter, baked goods, everything. Looking at the pictures even got me motivated enough to actually try to do some of this, and that's definitely a feat. Read this book! Then cook for me.
The most useful "how -to book" I have.......2003-01-28
I don't think I have seen any book like this on the market, because I would have bought it. This fantastic book gives all the information about what to do with the parts of the marijuana plant that aren't bud. I have searched far and wide for easy hash making tips and recipes for anything that's not a brownie. This book has everything I want to know and in one place. Ed Rosenthal is the master at direct, easy-to-understand cannabis information. There's reviews for most of the big name vaporizers, great recipes, dosage guidelines, contact information for all the products and companies featured, a whole chapter about making hash and another about water hash.It tells you all about what "trash" is and how to store it.There's a color photo section and tons of photos and illustations throughout. All the information is easy find, understand and apply. A must have. Did I mention I really like this book?

Throughout the world, hundreds of thousands of readers have been enthralled by the antics of David Bird's versatile Abbot. The scene now shifts from the cloister to Sherwood Forest, where we meet many familiar characters.
Customer Reviews:
Not so good as the "Abbot" books........2001-06-14
Having achieved great success with his humorous bridge fiction involving the monks of St Titus, David Bird sought to move his bridge tales out into other areas. One of the first was to move the game back several centuries and have the game played by the outlaw Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest near Nottingham.
As with the "Abbot" series, each chapter in the book puts the protagonists into a situation that allows them to play bridge and provides a backdrop for the humour that is what makes up such a large part of the appeal of this genre. Each hand is presented as a play problem and there is an opportunity for the reader to try to tackle it as a double dummy problem before seeing the solution found, or not found, by the players.
One of the things that has changed with the new scenario is the bridge. Here, rather than playing almost exclusively in duplicate tournaments, the characters are almost always seen playing rubber bridge, often for substantial stakes. That does change the nature of the problems that are set and in general, they seem to be easier and less interesting than the puzzles that face the Abbot and his monks. To be picky the bridge problems are not without mistake. On at least one hand the line of play described in the narrative does not lead to the end position shown in tabular form.
The humour changes also. While the St. Titus books are close to the "Yes Minister" school of humour, Robin Hood and his friends come right out of the bawdy end of a "Carry on" film. Keen Bridge players are rarely prudes but they are not so likely to be amused by jokes about which player ends up with which cheap ....
Compared to the "Abbot" books then, this is not so good. If your are new to David Bird, I would suggest one of the books in the monks series as a far better introduction. Fans of David Bird's bridge humour will be interested in this books in any case and, while it is not of the highest standard, it is still above average for the genre.

Excellent book.......2007-05-20
I found it an excellent walk-through of Fireworks. Within a short time, I was applying oval marquees, bevels, drop shadows and other terrific graphic effects. I carry this with my notebook computer -- it goes wherever I go, for the next few weeks at least.

So So.......2007-03-18
Not exactly the best tutorial book, but then again, there isn't much out there on Fireworks. If you are new to Fireworks, then this is the book for you. However, if you are looking for more advanced content, then don't get it.
Awesome Book for us Beginners.......2007-01-28
This book along with the tutorial cd really help to try out a lot of the features of the Fireworks program. As a beginner in the website development field, it has been a lot of help.
About what I expected ..........2006-11-03
My impression is that this is a reasonably good book for a first introduction to Fireworks. It helped me to already be familiar with Photoshop since many functions are quite similar.
I like "learn by doing" books but they, like this one, can be a little light on why you are doing something in a particular way.
One irritation with the book's structure is that the author would tell you to do something, not explain exactly how to do it using Firework's definitely quirky interface, then explain it after all in a call-out tip box a paragraph or two later. This after one stumbles all over the menu and icons searching for the function and finally move on, discouraged. Then, I'd discover the tip box and go back and revisit the assignment.
When I caught on that this was a pattern, I learned to search ahead when something wasn't self evident and often found the information I needed and progress was smoother.
Another irritation was that the files on the accompanying CD seemed to be incomplete. I was able to construct similar components myself, but I would like to have had the example ones to see where mine differed.
In summary: I found the book a bit cumbersome to use, but it achieved its purpose. It gave me an overview of the more important functions of Fireworks and a humble capability with its interface. I didn't complete the last couple of chapters where you are asked to export to Dreamweaver and complete the functionality there. I tried and the resulting program was a hash. Hardly anything worked. The two programs do not seem well integrated. But, since I intend to use Fireworks for text and limited graphics and do not intend to generate navigation with the program I wasn't concerned. If you are to become proficient in the use of Fireworks, I suggest you plan on reading some other books on the subject. Sadly, I haven't discovered any good ones to recommend.
Good for beginers not advanced uses.......2006-10-03
I was hoping this would cover the advanced features of fireworks, but this is clearly not the point. Masking, for example, is barely touched. Compositing hardly at all. I was really dissapointed as it does not help with the great features that set fireworks 8 apart from other graphics programs for the web. I think the online help is actually more helpful and useful.
I usually like the training from the source books as a great reference, but this is one time the book falls far short of it's potential.

Book Description
In the space of a single decade, the African National Congress has changed from a party for the poor and oppressed to the political home of the powerful and opulent. Yesterdayâs freedom fighters are todayâs corporate raiders. Boardrooms are the battleground now. Within the ANC different groups have contrasting backgrounds and political cultures: the exiles, back in Africa after many years in Europe, the USA and UK; the "islanders", a close knit group of former Robben Island prisoners; and the "inxiles", the local political activists who fought apartheid from within South Africa. But transformation comes at a price, and for the urbane Thabo Mbeki, this means nothing less than total loyalty and uncritical support. As both his political adversaries and erstwhile allies have discovered to their cost, the man who followed in Nelson Mandelaâs footsteps brooks no opposition, tolerates no dissent. In capturing the ANCâs soul, South Africaâs second black president has stifled its spirit. This book not only explains why and how he has done so, but also offers invaluable insights into the arcane machinations behind political decisions that touch the lives of millions every day. The first detailed analysis of the presidency of Nelson Mandela's successor, and possibly the most powerful man in Africa.

Book Description
"Thousands of years ago, before Christ or Buddha or Muhammad...before the Roman Empire rose or the Colossus of Rhodes fell," Eric Burns writes, "people in Asia Minor were drinking beer." So begins an account as entertaining as it is extensive, of alcohol's journey through worldand, more important, Americanhistory.
In The Spirits of America, Burns relates that drinking was "the first national pastime," and shows how it shaped American politics and culture from the earliest colonial days. He details the transformation of alcohol from virtue to vice and back again, how it was thought of as both scourge and medicine. He tells us how "the great American thirst" developed over the centuries, and how reform movements and laws (some of which, Burn s says, were "comic masterpieces of the legislator's art") sprang up to combat it. Burns brings back to life such vivid characters as Carrie Nation and other crusaders against drink. He informs us that, in the final analysis, Prohibition, the culmination of the reformers' quest, had as much to do with politics and economics and geography as it did with spirituous beverage.
Filled with the famous, the infamous, and the undeservedly anonymous, The Spirits of America is a masterpiece of the historian's art. It will stand as a classic chroniclewitty, perceptive, and comprehensiveof how this country was created by and continues to be shaped by its everchanging relationship to the cocktail shaker and the keg.
Customer Reviews:
Entertaining, lucid, and very well researched.......2007-08-29
This book has a perfect balance between in depth reaserch and entertainment. It is like Barbara Holland's "Joy of Drinking" with more in depth research. Burns does an excellent job of illustrating the joys of American spirits throughout our country's history. I found the book very enteraining, especially the passages about the founding fathers and the way they used to drink. It was very helpful with the research I was doing as well. If anyone has an interest in the subject or is curious about the roll alcohol played in our country (its a lot larger than you'd guess), then they should defineitley chose this book over the others.
Charming, Entertaining and Somewhat Sobering.......2006-12-03
Burns has produced a fascinating book and demonstrated that alcohol, as well as Americans' ambivalent attitudes towards it, has been an important subtheme in American history. Breezy and energetic, the book is well organized and moves briskly through many good stories of temperance wars. A fascinating read and a reliable historical reference.
Informative, Informal History of Alcohol use in America.......2006-03-13
"The Spirits of America" covers alcohol use in the United States from roughly colonial times to the end of prohibition, with some coverage of latter developments, such as Mothers against drunk driving. I enjoyed Burn's writing style.
I was surprised at how much drinking people in colonial times did, and how early in life they began.
Burns devotes much attention to the several waves of temperance and prohibition movements that began in about the 1820s and eventually culminated in prohibition.
easy to read.......2005-08-02
The spirit of america described the important facts about the social history of alcohol in america and it does it with a lot of humur. If yuo are interested in broadning your knoledge it is wonderful. But if you are intersted in a thorough history that will help schoallars and atudent of the field, you should read Drinking in America by Mark E. Lender and James K. Martin which is written in a more formal fashion (but also easy to read).
Eric Burns is great.......2004-02-09
Eric Burns does an awesome job on Fox News Watch and now he does just as good a job in this book. His fascinating stories about people like Thomas Jefferson are really entertaining. Who would think that the Supreme Court Justices were drunks! Probably a lot of people based on their rulings! lol
This book goes from the beginnings of drinking in America to the endings. It focuses on the big players and even some no names who I'd never have heard of if not for this book.
Even though Eric Burns is no scholar, he weaves an interesting tale. And he certainly deserves another Emmy for this one.

Book Description
The period of prohibition, from 1919 to 1933, marks the fault line between the cultures of Victorian and modern America. In Domesticating Drink, Murdock argues that the debates surrounding alcohol also marked a divide along gender lines. For much of early American history, men generally did the drinking, and women and children were frequently the victims of alcohol-associated violence and abuse. As a result, women stood at the fore of the temperance and prohibition movements and, as Murdock explains, effectively used the fight against drunkenness as a route toward political empowerment and participation. At the same time, respectable women drank at home, in a pattern of moderation at odds with contemporaneous male alcohol abuse.
During the 1920s, with federal prohibition a reality, many women began to assert their hard-won sense of freedom by becoming social drinkers in places other than the home. Murdock's study of how this development took place broadens our understanding of the social and cultural history of alcohol and the various issues that surround it. As alcohol continues to spark debate about behaviors, attitudes, and gender roles, Domesticating Drink provides valuable historical context and important lessons for understanding and responding to the evolving use, and abuse, of drink.

Domesticating Discourses - Drink with regard to the Dames.......2001-01-17
Catherine Murdock's book 'Domesticating Drink' is an intiguing and insightful look into the world of alcohol in the US between 1870 and the Second World War. In direct opposition to the many historians who claim that Prohibition was caused by the interests of big business, Murdock's study brings the locus closer to the home, a locality that she claims was responsible for the majority of change. Utilising cookbooks, etiquette guides and department store catalogues as primary sources, Murdock reveals the major part that alcohol played in the everyday life of the middle class woman in the time under study. Fascinating for it's attention to detail and it's myriad of sources, Murdock's treatment of the lead-up years to Prohibition, and the eventual breakdown of the Eighteenth Amendment makes for compelling reading. A great introduction into a hotly contested debate, and a welcome change from texts which ignore the role of women in the 'Noble Experiment'.

Jesus did exist and did leave behind artifacts to prove it........2006-09-03
In the last few years a great deal of discussions have taken place regarding the existence of Jesus of Nazareth and some have even come to deny his actual existence in the form of a human being. ASARIM has gone back in time and located the true garden where his physical body was laid to rest after he was tortured by the Romans and crucified. Jesus was laid on this shroud without a doubt, and we think Mark Antonacci proves this fact. Asarim only adds in passing that the Sudarium found in the Cathedral of Oviedo contains blood of the same man. The Sudarium came directly from Jerusalem to Spain and was never contaminated. As for the question did Jesus die on the cross? Asarim holds that the blood found was "live" blood and not of a "dead" human being. Jesus was given "Vinum Moratum" before his passion and therefore was able to survive being crucified. Pontious Pilate had already agreed with Jesus that all this would be carried out to fullfill the scriptures and that Jesus would be able to go to Rome and meet the others upon healing. To prove this theory, Asarim has used the Shroud, Sudarium, other artifacts and historic accounts found in the Vatican about the birth and extension of Christianity. Asarim highly recommends this book for all those that need new scientific, medical and archeological evidence that Jesus was and is alive, and continues to live amongst us in our soul and hearts.
Well argued!!.......2005-12-06
This book's "radiation" theory of image creation isn't as far fetched or a radical leap of reasoning as skeptics would have you believe. Why? Because the peer reviewed, scientific findings of a image composed of dehydrated, surface linen fibrils defies any "natural" explanation.
The image isn't a paint, powder, stain or transfer image. It's not imitated by decomposition stains, sweat stains, oils or herb stains. A heat scorch can't contain the subtlety or sophistication of this relic's image. If "vapors" created the image, there would be no possibility that the image would have any focus or definition. Nor is body contact the catalyst for image creation, since a body impression would have a fattened, "fun house mirror" effect.
Add to the exclusion of these past explainations the possible x-ray qualities of the Shroud image, the 3- dimensional "distance sensitive" intensity of the image, the exterior objects near the body "imaged" on the cloth... AND...
The MOST RECENT feature discovered, one Mr. Antonacci wasn't yet informed about as he wrote this book... a faint face image on the backside of the Shroud!
Why the imprinting of only the highest image features on the backside of the cloth? If it was paint or sweat responsible, it would diffuse outward and not be limited to (mostly) the face. Skin oils and sweat would had also darkened the Shroud man's "posterior" image dramatically... the back and buttocks which had the most weight pressure on the linen... yet the Shroud's back image is as subtle as the front image!!
Mark promoted the theory that the cloth collapsed through an image creating field of energy. The faint imprinting on the exterior side of the Shroud seems to validate this!
This theory now has support... discovered AFTER this book was released!!
As for whether the man in the Shroud is Jesus, consider... the Romans didn't always nail crucifixion victims; that a crown of thorns mocking of this victim should be unique to Jesus; the man was severely scourged; that this man had the athletic build of a manuel laborer (Carpenter, Stone Mason); was a young Jewish man beaten severely. The man was DEAD, as shown by the stiff, "rigor mortis" quality of the body image and the hemorrhage of the spear wound. And most significantly...
This crucified, Jewish "criminal" had a wealthy friend or relative who gave him a high quality linen Shroud! (Aka, Joseph of Arimetha?) Only high quality linens found at "Masada" featured the fine "invisible seaming" that this Shroud does.
This cruified Jewish "criminal" was allowed the privelege of burial!! Most crucifixion victims were considered defiled or cursed ("by the wood of the tree"), and were thrown on a disgusting pile of public decomposition by the brutal Romans. Dogs and crows routinely consumed the remains of crucified victims.
The man in the Shroud didn't decompose.
And the final point... ancient Jews overcame their aversion to "unclean" burial clothes and KEPT ... and PRESERVED... this shroud !! The blood stains ALONE would had prevented any normal Jewish individual from handling the cloth. Obviously, the man kept in this Shroud was considered "Holy," with "Holy blood."
How could this man NOT be Jesus?
Jeff Messenger, author of the novel "The Shroud of Torrington."

Five Stars? Oh! You'd better believe it!
The previous reviewers have done a very admirable job in extolling this "WONDER-FULL" book. I merely wish to add my voice to the chorus singing its praises.
THE SHROUD OF TURIN is an ancient burial cloth containing the mysterious image of a Man who had evidently been crucified - believed by many to be Jesus Christ. The internationally renowned, Peruvian poet, Yoey O'Dogherty, once wrote, "Nothing astounds like Truth." And the truth that has made The Shroud the most studied and least understood artifact on planet Earth is astounding indeed!
About 4 years ago, I happened to catch the author, MARK ANTONACCI, being interviewed on a radio program and found his statements so interesting that I went right out and acquired a copy of his book, 'THE RESURRECTION OF THE SHROUD.' From a young age, I had been intrigued by the implications of the Shroud although my knowledge was limited. Like countless millions of other people, when the 1988 Carbon-14 dating test results were announced, "proving" the Shroud to be a hoax conceived between 1260 and 1390 A.D., I thought, "Well, so it goes." Of course, I've learned A LOT about human nature and some so-called "scientists" since then. I'm not so gullible anymore, and after reading 'THE RESURRECTION OF THE SHROUD', I'm more intrigued than ever by this extraordinary treasure!
In the preface, the former agnostic, Mark Antonacci, relates how he was somewhat mysteriously goaded into investigating the Shroud, and how in pacing his apartment, reluctantly pondering some of its unfathomable anomalies, it suddenly hit him in midstep, "If all of the possible implications from the scientific examination were true, it would not be bad news - it would be good news."
Give Antonacci credit for having been an intellectually honest skeptic, unlike the flapjack who wrote the Kirkus review that our host has unwittingly presented in its Editorial section. That writer says that 'THE RESURRECTION OF THE SHROUD' "is unlikely to win any converts among empirical-minded skeptics." BALDERDASH! That is EXACTLY the sort of person who will be knocked for a loop by this great book! Actually, it is the intellectually dishonest (scared out of his wits) individual who will not permit himself to be converted, who will dismiss it. I know there are willfully ignorant people out there, but you'd hope that they could at least be a bit more imaginative and less blatant in their efforts to mislead others with their bias.
True, the book explores some fairly heavy scientific principles, but necessarily so. Unless the reader understands the science behind it, they will fail to appreciate the incomprehensible attributes of the Shroud. But if it makes you feel any better, I can tell you with perfect honesty that I'm one of the least mathematically and scientifically-minded people on God's green earth! I must be operating from the "left field" side of the brain, or something. If I could follow the science, so will you. I found the information unspeakably fascinating because of its portent.
Once you've grasped the complexity of it, you'll understand why John Walsh has written, "The Shroud of Turin is either the most awesome and instructive relic of Jesus Christ in existence...or it is one of the most ingenious, most unbelievably clever products of the human mind and hand on record. It is one or the other; there is no middle ground." And how the respected scientist, John Heller, could claim that, "If you were to give me a budget of ten million dollars and told me to make a replica of [the Shroud]...I would not know how to do it."
You'll learn why the faction that wants us to believe that the Shroud (which displays many anomalies that contemporary science can't even explain) is the handiwork of a medieval artist, doesn't have a leg to stand on. And why the Carbon-14 dating procedure, which supposedly put the final nail in the Shroud's coffin, was unreliable to say the least!
Antonacci's book examines the Shroud from every conceivable angle, including the very possible and enlightening connection between It and the Mandylion - gee whillikers! (Oops. Is one still allowed to say, "gee whillikers" in 2005?) It left this reader thoroughly mesmerized. Buy it and be amazed. Be VERY AMAZED!
I could go on all day about this book, but I'm going to pack it in here. I gotta go find that deceptive Kirkus Reviewer now and take him out to the woodshed. (Oh, come on, I'm only kidding! I know that God wouldn't approve of that. ...Would He?)
EXCELLENT AND THOROUGH.......2004-05-08
The Shroud of Turin is the most thoroughly researched artifact in the history of the world. Because of its wealth of astonishing attributes, the Shroud of Turin has draw over a quarter million hours of research by research scientists (mostly at personal expense) between 1977 and 2000--for good reason. All this rigorous attention is due soley to the merits and rewards they have reaped as they continue discovering its wonders.
Of all the books I have read about the Shroud of Turin, this is by far the most excellent, thorough, well researched, and well documented. Yochanan (John) records in his gospel that the miracles recorded of Yeshua (Jesus) were only the tip of the iceberg (John 20:30; 21:25). Back in those days people had different opinions about the miracles: some rejected them, some doubted, some believed (but took it all for granted), and some were appreciative and glorified God. Everyone must draw their own conclusions about the Shroud--don't let others and media spin masters make up your mind for you. When it comes to the Shroud, the powerful amazement of it lies in its details. If you do not know the details, you are missing the boat. This is the book to find those details. The more technology grows, the more they research the Shroud, the more powerful and impressive it is. Quantum leaps in technology uncover, corespondingly, quantum leaps in hitherto hidden mindboggling aspects about the Shroud. It seems evident to me that Yeshua has left this as a special sign, especially for our generation. We are the first generation to have the scientific technology to fathom the wonders of the Shroud. You owe it to yourself to investigate for yourself and draw your own conclusions. This is the book to give you the best coverage and analysis of the details among all the books I have read. My commendations to the author, Mark Antonacci, for his excellent work, resulting from 20 years of writing and research!
Welcome to Addiction.......2004-03-28
If you've never been exposed to Shroud material before, "The Resurrection of the Shroud" is a worthy introduction. Mark Antonacci provides an exhaustive introduction to several shroud theories, from several different scientific fields. There are, for example, the Mandylion theory from international art history, the VP-8 3 D theory, from high tech imaging, the paint theory, from microscopic examination, the pollen theory, from botany ...
Antonacci writes well, but there are places where his prose could have benefited from a careful copy editor. Compared, though, to the often execrable writing found in many best selling books today, Antonacci's prose is just fine. There are a couple of places where he makes minor errors of fact, for example, when he refers to Veronica's veil as one of the fifteen Stations of the Cross. There are fourteen Stations of the Cross.
The insurmountable problem is, of course, that shroud scholarship is very much alive. Visit Barrie Schwortz's excellent website www.shroud.com, and you will read active, living exchanges between high powered scholars who are convinced that diametrically opposed points of view are correct. Are there traces of paint on the shroud, or aren't there? One can find opposite opinions, firmly attested, by equally prominent scholars.
In short, the mystery of the shroud *is not* something that will be solved for you by this book. You will merely be introduced to a mystery that has gripped minds for over one hundred years, since it was first revealed, through the first photographs of the shroud, that what the naked eye sees when viewing the shroud is a blurred shadow compared with what the camera reveals in its *negative* images of the shroud.
What does all this mean? I came to Antonacci's book knowing that no definitive answer has yet been produced, and that scholars in hard sciences better qualified than I to assess evidence are convinced of the fantastic premise that the shroud is the burial cloth of Jesus.
Even though I know that the issue is not settled, Antonacci's book was a real page turner for me. I read late into the night, hoping that I would hit upon that one bit of evidence that conclusively proved either that the shroud is a fantastic forgery, or an even more fantastic artifact.
That final, conclusive bit of evidence has yet to surface, but that did not interfere with my considerable enjoyment of this book. I do recommend it, to skeptics and believers alike.

Book Description
Hazardous Air Pollutant Handbook: Measurements, Properties, and Fate in Ambient Air provides a comprehensive review of the 188 compounds and compound classes designated as Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) by the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, with a specific focus on their potential presence in ambient air. The relevant chemical and physical properties of the compounds are discussed and tabulated, and suitable methods for their measurement in ambient air are identified. A survey of measurements of ambient HAP concentrations is provided for use in historical comparisons and for evaluating the current human health risks from these chemicals. Finally, the book reviews the atmospheric reactions that control the lifetime and fate of the HAPs in ambient air, and summarizes the current knowledge about their transformation products.
