This book shows Woody Hayes as the true person, not just the ranting coach on the sideline. As an aspiring coach, I see Woody as an excellent model for success. His genuine love and concern for his players is unique and inspiring. This book is a must read for those who want to see Woody as his players, friends, and family see him. Great book about a Great man.

being woody's grandson, i liked it, there was a wide array of people talking to the author about him. I thought that my favorite section was the last, the friends, foes and fans part. it seems as if many people here in columbus have their own personal run-in or encounter with him and for me, those stories are infitley more interesting than anything else.

the recollections from the players and coaches were good, but they kind of blurred together under the "they may be smarter than me but i can outwork 'em" mantra.

overall, good job. the photos were pretty interesting. we have a few at home that will never make it out, including one of woody in my darth vader helmet at christmas (i must've been ten or less).

I was surprised that such a complete collection of stories and experiences existed. Woody was bigger than life but at the same time he was only a simple man that expected the best from everyone he touched. A must read for all fans--not just Buckeyes!

Previous reviewer's comments are noted well, but I was somewhat disappointed in the coverage of forms development. I really wanted to learn to move/place fields on a contact form and designate them drop-down, etc. Simple enough, I thought, for a book of this coverage. But even though the author talked about the abilitiy to do this, there were no directions, no examples, and no description of the 'Controls' options required to do it. For a book of this size and price, I had hoped for more meat. No, not to the detail of VB scripting, but certainly more detailed coverage of Outlook's powerful forms and macro abilities. To my chagrin, I'm finding my answers under the Outlook 'Help' section in the program itself!

A most comprehensive treatment of Outlook. Extremely well suited for an experienced Outlook user, with many details on the use in a server/business environment. Describes the interrelationship with Windows Outlook Express. Probably a little too comprehensive for the single system user just trying to read and write a few email messages. Subject matter is exceptionally well presented and thorough.

Great tab book.......2005-02-25

All the songs from Appetite for Destruction, with detailed transcriptions, song notes and an introduction at the face of the book, lyrics, and more! I also bought THE STYLES AND TECHNIQUES OF SLASH, which was a breakdown of some of the songs from Appetite with a bonus CD. Both are recommendable but this is definitely more straightforward. If you want to learn Gn'R, start there. If you're already good at guitar, get this book. It's hard, and takes practice, but the songs are ALL great. Even Think About You is fun to play, and it's my least favorite song on Appetite.

Appetite for Destruction .......2004-11-19

In Appetite for Destruction, Gene writes about how guns and roses emerged from an LA club that legends Van Halen, Motely Cure and poison, also emerged from. Gene gives an excellent point of view of how hard they had it when they first started. He continues to write about how even know they had numerous albums and concerts, the luck for the band, just kept on getting worse. From someone's head getting stumped in ar a mush pit at one of their concerts, to alcohol and drug overdoses.
It talks of how slash tried to over came his drug problems and how Axel had a huge control issue over the band. This band was created of friendship and ruined by greed, corruption, drugs and alcohol. It even tells you secrets of songs and stories of them. I would give it 5 stars.

i think this is the best book in the world, i didn't buy it, but one of my dad's friends gave it to me. I'm such a fan of GNR, it is not even funny, so i realy enjoyed the book, i can't single out any spot that i like the most, beacause all of it is great

Man this book is such a guilty pleasure for me. I love how Sugerman can weave Rimbaud/Baudelaire, William Blake, William Burroughs, Jim Carroll and Axl Rose. A lot of us were living on the nighttrain to the "Palace of Wisdom" back in 1989. That was my season in hell with GNFR as the soundtrack. Although Axl has revamped them as a karaoke group, it makes you wonder what might have been. Guns and Roses was truly onto something legendary if they didn't implode. But hey wasn't it inevitable. No one in music today is even close to the insanity of pre-illusion Guns. Only the Lizard King's Homer could mythologize the late 1980s of the Sunset Strip. RIP Danny

I have to agree with the consensus here. This book is not a useful biography of G&R.
As an intellectual analysis of the cultural significance of rock music in general, with special reference to G&R it's quite a good read, in the manner of an enthusiastic undergraduate media studies essay.
Sugerman's style is amusing at times, but usually for the wrong reasons, (eg his frequently 'creative' grammar and the excruciatingly over the top parallels between Axl and a pantheon of historical and legendary greats from gods to poets.
G&R are a great band, you're unlikely to be reading this or the book unless you agree, as to "undoubtedly the best rock band performing in the World today", I'm not sure I'd put it that strongly, especially as the book was written when the band had actually only produced one album!
Of course we now know that after Appetite for destruction the band survived to record more material. I dont think that hit the same heights again since that brilliant debut. So it would appear that G&R failed to live up to Sugerman's predictions for greatness by either burning out in a blaze of glory or by continuing to achieve increasingly spectacular musical triumphs.

This is the worst book i have ever read on a autobiography of a band. Just rambles on about nothing. Nothing new in this book to learn. This author should change professions.

I would highly recomend that any fan of Guns N'Roses do not buy this book. It is a complete waste of money. The book is boring and pointless. The author just rambles on and on, until you don't even know what he is saying anymore. If you are wanting a good book about Guns N'Roses, this is definately not it.

Carried Away.......2002-07-25

The author of this book gets carried away to say the least. He strays far from actual facts and delves into his crazy theories and parallels of Axl and Slash (forget about the other members in the group) and some ancient figures. It got quite tedious at some points and was not interesting at all. Buy another GnR book!

A great series of books.......2006-09-07

The first book in the series that I read. Cozzens provides a nice introduction, followed by a great series of primary documents, grouped by event. Beecher's Island is an example of an event, and there are several accounts from the men who fought there. Each account is well footnoted, and the footnotes themselves make for great reading. Maps are included inside front and back covers showing forts, battle sites, etc. Illustrations throughout.

Although not reasonable for most high school students, this book does bring to light the background of modern geometry through its treatment of impossible and hard to solve problems.

Excellent background reading for a teacher!

Classic problems of geometry made simple.......2000-11-26

The principles of geometry are both elegant and timeless. One cannot help but understand why the Greeks considered it a pinnacle of intellectual achievement. This book sets down several of the classic problems, explaining them in such a clear way that it is easy to forget that it sometimes took centuries of work before the problem was resolved. Of course, those who first toiled on the problems did not have some of the additional machinery that we so take for granted today.
The problems covered are trisecting an angle, squaring the circle, constructing regular polygons and constructing a cube whose volume is twice that of a given cube. The background needed to understand the problems and solutions is nothing more than a solid grounding in basic algebra and trigonometry. Calculus is mentioned, but not used. Problem sets are included in all chapters and solutions to all are in the back of the book. They are well-posed, solidly reinforcing the points made in the text.
This is a book that covers several thousand years of progress in geometry in a little over one hundred pages. It is done well and it can be used as a supplement in any course in geometry, from high school to college.

Bold has a gem of a book here. It's only a little bit over a hundred pages, but it's packed full of the great geometry problems that occupied the minds of the world's greatest thinkers for the past 2000 years.

The title describes the book perfectly. These really are "Famous Problems from Geometry" and he does indeed explain how to solve them.

The book has four major sections/chapters. He discusses in detail the three problems from antiquity (one section each): squaring a circle, doubling a cube, and trisecting an angle. Furthermore, he spends significant time with constructions of regular polygons (the fourth section) - which ones can be constructed and why. He also discusses which ones cannot be constructed and why.

The reader will be expected to understand concepts from Modern Algebra, particularly the concept of a Field. While Bold does spend time explaining what a Field is, his definition is quick and is assumed to be more of a refresher for someone who has already learned about them. Bold also has a section on Complex Numbers where he derives one of the formulas used later in the book. Again - this section is assumed to be a refresher on Complex Numbers. High School Geometry or Algebra students would have significant trouble understanding his explanations and proofs.

Bold provides problems for the reader to work along the way. These are problems that logically lead to the proof of the problem being studied. The problems are good. As a third year college student majoring in mathematics, I found the explanations/solutions to be sometimes hard to follow. He assumes a great deal about the reader's level of proficiency in math and in geometry. As a result, he liberally skips steps in proofs that are assumed to be "obvious."

If you're expecting simple proofs to these problems, you're not going to find them. If they were simple, they wouldn't have taken 2000 years to solve. But they are explained clearly here in terms that anyone with a college degree should be able to understand.

Overall, a superb book. A must have for anyone interested in the famous problems from the history of Geometry.
