FBI Agent Carl Hanratty (Hanks) made it his prime mission to capture Frank and bring him to justice, but Frank was always one step ahead of him, baiting him to continue the chase.

Customer Reviews:
Highly entertaining.......2006-01-20
This book is an example of truth giving fiction a run for its money. I'm sure that the stories were polished just a bit for publication, but the fact that they are true makes the book all the more interesting. I would list this book as one of the ten best that I have read in the past year. The story contains humor, suspense, and a web of intrigue that will tempt any law abiding citizen. I'll never look at a pilot the same way again.
Makayla's review.......2006-01-07
I choose this book because I had seen the movie and every one said the movie is different from the book. The movie is different from the move in many ways.
It left out when he becomes a professer, when he moves to Paris, and when he is put in solitaire confinement.
I liked this book because it shows just how easy it was to rip off a bank in the 60's.I think it is funny how much training the tellers had at finding a bad check. Back then the tellers only asked for ID on large amounts, now we have technology so we can search out phonies.
This book is about Frank W Abagnale and how he conned every bank in New York City and several other major cities in all different countries. His schemes involved an airline pilot, an attorney, a physician, professor and a detective. He goes from state to state and from country to country and scams any one he can for what ever he needs.
The type of person that would like this book
a lot would be girls because he also tricks girls into helping him in his scams. I think that we all could learn a thing or two from this book. That is why I liked the book.
Catch Me If You Can.......2005-11-29
Catch Me If You Can is a great book. It is about an 18 year old con-man named Frank Abnagle. He was an airline pilot, a lawyer and a doctor before he turned age 21. He also stole over 2 million dollars through counterfeit checks. This is a great book and also a great movie.
A Must Read.......2005-04-18
You can't put this book down. A very good book if you are into true crime. What a story.
A keepsake for avid fans.......2003-03-04
Words and photos to the Catch Me If You Can screenplay document the action which takes place behind camera and script for this re-creation of a con artist's life. This official pictorial moviebook includes over a hundred color production photos along with archival photos from Abagnale's personal collection, making for a keepsake for avid fans.

Elixirs Exotica! More lost recipes from the Golden Age of the Tiki Bar from the Polynesian Pop Scholar and Mixologist Jeff Berry, co-author of the praised Beach Bum Berry's Grog Log - dubbed "the best bar guide for tropical drinks ever published" by Joe Bob Briggs. Packed with vintage graphics on every page, and everything you need to know about making the perfect tropical drink. With additional commentary from Berry, and a cover by renowned tiki artist Bosko.
Customer Reviews:
Thank god the tiki bar is open.........2007-08-30
We have made quite a few of the drink recipes and they have all been great!!! It was exactly what we were looking for.
Modern encyclodepia of recipes from the drinking age........2003-08-26
This is volume two, and just as good. The only other "tiki" drink books worth buying were printed in the 40s and 50s, and this update is better. You have the current ingredients. Any drink enthusiast needs to have the recipes of the masters on hand.

Get Your Tiki Party Going!.......2002-09-17
Just when my "grog log" was beginning to fall apart in curacao-stained tatters, the Beachbum comes out with the new edition. Intoxica is even BETTER than the first. Timeless recipes and unending fun await. For anyone who wishes to delve into the world of exotic drinks, this is the BEST book that I've come across. In no time at all you will be mixing the most amazing and tasty concoctions in your own kitchen. You will never order a tropical drink at a bar again. Get This Book!
Intoxica is the perfect name!.......2002-08-31
More great tiki drink recipes from Beachbum Berry and a great follow up to his previous book. A must buy if you want to wow your friends at your next party.
Intoxica! & companion book Grog Log.......2002-08-02
These two volumes will make you never want to order a high priced, poorly mixed, tropical drink from the bar again!! I highly recommend these books to anyone who wants to have a cocktail from an era when making a drink was an art form. Why I say, "Buy both of these books!!" -
1. Vintage tropical drinks from the 1930's to 1970's featuring Don the Beachcomber.
2. Has easy to follow receipes, a strenghth scale so you dont get too tipsy, & a handy conversion table that makes measuring so simple.
3.W/ just a few ingredients, you can make a variety of drinks, so you don't need to spend your whole paycheck getting started.
4.Calls for fresh fruit juice...squeezing your own lemons & limes is fun & good excerise :) Seriously...fresh juice makes the difference!!
5.I had Mai Tais while I was in the Hawaiian islands. Actually, I had one at every bar & hotel I stopped at ;) hee hee, but NONE compared to the two vintage receipes found in these logs.
Kudos to the cool cats involved w/ creating this great collection!!
I am eagerly awaiting Volume #3
Mahalo nui loa, a hui hou!

A box of drow and Drizz't thrown in!.......2002-11-18
We're going to run through the WoTC adventure City of the Spider Queen, and so I'm preparing by painting Drow and other Underdarklings. I like the assortment in this boxed set, although I'd have thrown in a couple extra Drow soldiars and perhaps left out one of the Kuo-Tao.
Also, the Drow ranger could pass as the popular Forgotten Realms character Drizz't.
I had no trouble assembling the models. The Drow wizard came with a back banner that I thought looked a little silly, so I didn't attach it, and simply puttied over the small hole in the wizard's back.
Some nice miniatures.......2002-11-12
I didn't have any of the problems the other reviewer had. I actually got a free extra kuo-toa fig thrown in by mistake. These figs are a bit less dynamic in their posing than the 2 other Drow figs available. The displacer beast is a great sculpt reminiscent of Dave Trampier's original Monster Manual illustration
WOTC customer service is fairly good about sending out missing or broken bits. Its a shame Chainmail was cancelled.
WotC sells GARBAGE.......2002-09-24
I just recieved my Attack of the Drow set in the mail not more than fifteen minutes ago, and I'm so mad I don't ever want to buy anything from WotC again.
The Drow Ranger, arguably the coolest figure in the set, was missing an arm. Whatever- it might be somewhere else in the box. It wasn't. And when I touched the sword on the figure, it fell off! So I don't get the coolest figure in the set, and have to shell out six more dollars if I want it. WotC isn't getting that cash.
The displacer beast has so much flash on it it would take you at least a day to file it all off with a dremel set and a set if needle-point files. All figures come with a little flash, that's to be expected. This displacer beast has something like a quarter of the total weight of the figure taken up by flash. I sure have better things to do with about five hours than scratch away flash from an ineptly-cast figure.
I don't ever plan on buying anything from WotC again in the miniatures department since they can't seem to make a figure that takes less than a day to assemble and paint. Their competitors simply make better products at cheaper prices.

Great Author.......2007-09-11
Learn alot from the book about Project management. It does not only apply to management but apply to daily life. It teaches you more than there is. Definitely recommended. Like the CD and the material.
Great buy!!!!!.......2007-03-08
The book got to me in a timely manner and was in great shape.
Book is Fine.......2007-01-09
What can I say, the instructor required this book, so I purchased it. Well laid out. Broken down into sections that make sense when learning project management. The examples in the appendix could be done a little better, but the appendix is already over 100 pages. Wish it would have the Index on CDROM for easier searching, but overall it is a good book.
Great book .......2007-01-04
I used this book as the accredited book for my project management course in my master study, actually it is a great book, I did not get enough time to read it all, but it really covers all the project managemnt subtitles, I recommend it for those who have project management experience, and also for those who just need to know something about project manegment, but you make sure you have time to read, it is not a small before sleep book, it is really technical one.
Excellent additional book for CAPM or Project + Exam.......2006-10-14
I was issued this book for my project management class this past spring. The information contained in this particular book was detailed, and the author provided great examples plus a 120-day trail version of MS Project management software to add in practical development. I am using this book as additional information to pass the Certifed Associate in Project Management exam offer by the Project Management Institute.
Customer Reviews:
Oscar Romero.......2007-07-28
While living in Central America during the 1990s I came into contact with the writings of Oscar Romero, many biographies of his life and work, and writing about his writings. As I read this book of Reflections on His Life and Writings I was once again inspired by Romeo's life, thought and writings. I would like to quote a line from the Introduction that I believe is important to understanding Romer's life- "he discovered a God who was emeshed in the ordinary, messy, conflictive struggle of the Salvadoran people." Oscar Romero represents another side of Catholicism that is often forgotten and ignored in favor of more anteseptic forms of thought and practice. I highly recommend this book for all those seeking a spirituality for living in the world as Christian people.
Seeing the Value of Every Person.......2006-05-19
Dennis, Golden, and Wright offer an informative and interesting biography with "Oscar Romero: Reflections on His Life and Writings" (2000). Originally penned to persuade Roman Catholic officials toward canonization of Archbishop Romero, this small book (only 127 paperback pages) provides a necessary witness for a great man's extraordinary life.
Introducing Romero with his birth (in an El Salvadoran barrio in 1917) the authors tells of his training and ordination (in 1942 Rome), and his quick rise through church ranks to the arch-episcopacy during the turbulent era of 1970s Central America. The authors witness his saintly qualities and his pursuit of holy living. They regard him as a 20th century prophet whose life was a symbol for the struggle of the Meso-American poor. Romero's life is characterized as "the mystery of faith and God's grace as well as...the mystery of betrayal and evil". Archbishop Romero "tried to make the world see the value of every human life".
The authors explain Archbishop Romero's theology through each of the book's 5 chapters. The centrality of the poor, the historical demand of the Gospel, and the testimony of the martyrs provide the principle basis for his Christo-centric accompaniment theology. Romero's call to the universal church is to offer itself to the poor. His invitation resulted in the inevitable clash between the "haves" and the "have-nots". In the end everyone lost something (the Archbishop lost his life).
After various unfruitful public confrontations with the corrupt (U.S. backed) Salvadoran government, Archbishop Romero decides, in 1977, to challenge its avarice, greed, and human rights violations. He formally requests the secession of U.S. aid, he preaches against repression, and he publicly invites the western media to see his country's plight. With his own bishops opposing him, Romero is reminded that a prophet always stands alone. Gunned down during worship, by government soldiers in 1980, Romero's life became a cry for Central American social realignment. (This calls to reform remains yet to be heard by many south of the Rio Grande.)
Unfortunately, the authors only glance over Romero's writings. They offer signifcant research (with 7 pages of endnotes) into the Archbishop's sermons, books, and college lectures. Several notable theologians and church colleagues are also quoted about Romero's life and influence. (By book's end, I wondered as a non Roman Catholic what the hold-up is for Romero's canonization.)
"Oscar Romero" is a poignant and gripping read. It tells a story a few others do. This book is recommendable to all students of Central America, church history buffs, and as a class text. Its story should never be forgotten.
A relatively inspirational hagiography.......2004-09-05
OSCAR ROMERO: Reflections on His Life and Writings is a slim volume written by three American scholars expert in and inspired by the new care for the poor in the Latin American church for which the martyred bishop worked. It is published by Maryknoll's Orbis Books, which is known for its many titles in support of liberation theology. This loosely-knit series of reflections by Marie Dennis, Renny Golden, and Scott Wright is no mere biography, but rather approaches a traditional hagiography.
The focus of the book is on Romero's work and illustrated by numerous quotations from his writings and homilies. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to see that the authors kept his life in context by briefly mentioning some of his contemporaries among the disadvantaged of El Salvador. The mention of murdered NGO workers or continually victimized campesinos shows the repressed people for which he gave his life.
I found two facets of the book unsatisfying, however. The first is that there is a great deal of needless repetition; I feel that the book could have benefitted from tighter editing. I was also disappointed to see that only the English translation of passages from Romero was provided. Romero was an excellent rhetorician--that is why his homilies continue to inspire--but one can enjoy them best in the original language, so the Spanish should have been represented here.
For those who want to know what all the fuss is about in the remembrance of Romero's martyrdom and why his memory continues to give hope to the poor of El Salvador and Christians around the world, this is a book worth reading for a simple explanation of the archbishop's piety. A more serious theological study can be found in Jon Sobrino's ARCHBISHOP ROMERO: Memories and Reflections.
Transcending Fatalism.......2001-10-10
Amazing! When a man takes the plain words of Jesus to heart, when he preaches them and practices them, the poor flock to him, and the powerful fear, despise, and execute him.
"The poor are a sacrament who can transform our lives if we are willing to open ourselves to them, to accompany them." (p. 14)
This book briefly outlines the story of Oscar Romero, his message, and his death. It touches on the violence and injustice taking place in El Salvador. It contrasts the Christian commitmen to life with the Capitalist/materialist commitment to death. The book cites his writings and journals on nearly every page. These passages touched my heart deeply.
But, this book was week on discussion about =HOW= Romero converted to the poor. I would have liked to know more about that--this was the primary reason I purchased the book, and I felt disappointed that it seemed to take a back seat to Romero's teachings and praxis.
"There is nothing pretty about Christian hope. Whatever Chiristian hope is, it begins in terror and utter disorientation in the face of the collapse in all that is familiar ... It is no longer the hope of a rescue, but a fixed surety of that which is not seen, where there seems to be no way out, and where death and its system seem absolutely dominant; and it is this fixed surety of that which is not seen which empowers us to the forging of a counterhistory to that of the domination of death." (p. 84)
As Romero's story is told, he is held up as a christ figure, walking in the steps of his Master, proclaiming the gospel of the poor, to the poor, rebuking the powerful, and finally, executed at the altar during mass.
If only this book sold like "The Jabez Prayer" or some of the other, shallow, Christian best-sellers. That would reflect a transformation of mind and heart, one that is sorely needed in a land that condemned Clinton's sexual escapades, but not his policies of economic and structural injustice.
Five stars for broad coverage of Romero's thought. Four stars for telling the man's story--I wanted to feel how he wrestled through the issue of conversion to the poor, how he wrestled through his inevitable martyrdom.

Romero: Prophet, Mystic, Martyr.......2000-11-23
As a biography, this book is a mere introduction - but a good one. Latino country boy works as carpenter, enters seminary, studies in Rome, becomes priest, lives comfortable and respectable life of cleric hobnobbibng with the elite of El Salvador, becomes Archbishop of San Salvador, loses priest-friend to assassination, has conversion experience, condemns elite for oppressing the poor, loses support of elite and fellow Bishops, is assassinated while saying Mass for cancer patients, and is proclaimed a saint by his oppressed poor.
As a story of a conversion experience and life thereafter, it is an outstanding and soul-stirring book. Dramatic conversions are not new. St. Paul had one. Constantine had one. Both changed the world. Romero had one and, once again, the world will never be the same.
Romero's conversion makes this book possible. The authors' skill makes it exciting. Romero, a moderately conservative Catholic Bishop, friend of his country's oppressive economic, social, military, and ruling elite, is installed as Archbishop of San Salvador. Warmly welcomed by this elite, he is opposed by the oppressed poor who view him not as a friend of the oppressed but as a supporter of the oppressor. Within weeks of his installation, his friend, Father Grande (supporter of the poor and oppressed), is assassinated by this elite. Big mistake! Romero begins his conversion experience.
He joins the oppressed poor. They become his spiritual sustenance. In his commitment to them he finds the Sacred. His spirituality increases. His mysticism deepens. He becomes a prophet. He is an outcast from the elite and from his fellow Bishops. He enters his dark night of the soul and emerges from it finding God not in the desert cave, or the isolated monastery, or in the stained glass cathedral, but among his tortured and suffering poor. There he finds the sacred, the spirit of God.
This is the message of Romero. It is the message which this book conveys with such power, clarity, and depth. It is an onion book whose layers can be peeled back to satisfy every category of reader: the intellectual, the casual seeker of information, the mother at home in her kitchen, the subway rider on the way to work, the solitary monk or nun, the activist in the street, the powerful of the world, and the ecclesiastic in the church. It is a book that will leave no reader unchanged.
Customer Reviews:
Whatever DID happen to Jimmy Hoffa?!.......2006-11-01
If you lie awake at night wondering if Marilyn Monroe really was murdered or where the 'Tylenol Murderer' ended up or if New York's 'Dartman' is still roaming the streets...you need to get a life! But, seriously, you also need to get a copy of this marvelous book covering unsolved crimes of the past hundred and fifty years, mostly in America.
Author Michael Newton casts his net fairly wide, covering all the famous American cases (JonBenet, Judge Crater, the Lindbergh kidnapping, etc.). Obviously most of the cases deal with murder most foul but there's disappearances, thefts, etc.
Arranged alphabetically the book has lots of cross references. If you're a crime buff or just an "I wonder" type, you'll enjoy this book. It makes for interesting reading; you can read it straight through or jump in at any page. Recommended.

A treasure trove for armchair detectives. Examines oddities and raises questions about facts always taken for granted.
Customer Reviews:
Review of Encyclopedia of Unsolved Mysteries.......2006-07-31
I generally enjoy this author's style and thought provoking content. However, I did not find this book to be at the same level of clarity and attractiveness of "Beyond the Occult" and "The Occult" (which in fact repeats some of the facts and stories in the attached book, which I am not sure is so good).
Also, I find some irregularity in "importance" of the topics selected - some seem to be very personal cases (I am sure that that the archives of any solid police department may yield many more unresolved crimes stories and even more challenging than those in the book) and others more general. Mixing the two levels does not give a very good impression. Nevertheless, this book did not "put me off" the author yet. I am inclined to give it a very large 3 stars, but still in my opinion it does not make it to 4 stars.
An excellent general grounding.......2004-04-02
The person who reviewed this book before me and said it was a good introduction to the subject hit the nail on the head. And to be truthful, subjects like the Oera Linda book, Andrew Crosse and Time Slips get a pretty good discussion here, written in the Wilson's usual dry yet informative style. A good introduction to weird oddities.
Interesting and Fun.......2001-06-22
This book gives one a good overview of strange and the supernatural. One by one the book discusses odd events in history and tries to explain them for the reader. The events covered included everything from "Was there an Atlantis" to "Who was Shakesphere?"
Written by two authors, the books seems to be dualing with itself, and its explanations for these events. On the one hand, the authors will try and give a scientific explanation; on the other hand, the authors give bizarre reasons for these events. Since some of the events are bizarre, however, maybe only bizarre answers can be given.
I think you will especialy enjoy this book if you want an introduction into the bizarre. Don't expect in depth discussions of these issues, this is an Encylcopedia. But as an overview this book was especially good at discussing strange topics, of which, I had never heard. From a man who claimed to be immortal, to the "Gray Man" found in a distant mountain.
Good, not great. The short sections makes for an interesting read when you are short on times. Enjoy
Disappointing.......2000-09-20
Reads like a book written 40 years ago. The author touches on the usual subjects of the genre, but addresses a few mundane stories (Dillinger's death, et.al.) as mysterious. There is at least one "mystery" in this book which has since been explained, and quite publicly and acceptably to those astute in these matters. Also, an annoying number of grammatical and spelling errors distract from the stories (spelling Dr. J. Allen Hynek's name as "Hyneck" and listing CSICOP as "CSCIOP" are examples.) I admit I didn't finish reading this book...there are too many finer volumes in the genre to enjoy.
A disappointment.......2000-07-29
When I first got the book and read it I was pretty disappointed. I was hoping to read interesting stories that I hadn't heard about before. It was just another book that repeated the same stories about the Lockness Monster and others. I think that if you're a reader who is more than curious about the unusual, there are better books out there.

Book Description
A thrilling "user's guide" to the genomics era
Welcome to the genome, the miraculous blueprint of your DNA, coiled tight as a spring in the nucleus of each cell of your body. If unwound, the DNA from just one cell, while only a molecule in width, would stretch six feet in length! The information stored in its double helix structure - three billion bits worth - could fill 142 Manhattan phone books.
Yet far more amazing than these facts is the impact the study of genomics has had on so many areas of our lives. From the promise of personalized medicine and gene therapy to disputes over the safety of genetically modified (GM) foods, there is little doubt we are in the midst of the Genomic Revolution. Now how do we make sense of it all?
Welcome to the Genome takes you right into the thick of today's most cutting-edge science and its far-reaching implications. Authors Rob DeSalle, who curated the highly successful Genomics Revolution exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and Michael Yudell, Assistant Professor of Public Health at Drexel University, have written a book which clearly explains the ongoing saga of our attempts to understand the mystery of biology's Rosetta Stone and use its code to better our lives.
This reader-friendly book employs an understandable style and eye-popping full-color illustrations to provide real insights into the complex science involved. It delves into the past discoveries that led to the sequencing of the human genome; it presents the challenges facing today's scientists and society and culture in general; and it considers the future possibilities of the developing genome era. Social issues, particularly questions of ethics, receive special attention, covering an important area too often overshadowed by science and technology.
If the genome really is the book of life, then we have only just opened to the first of its many pages. Those who triumphantly claim DNA is destiny may have spoken too soon; it is far more likely today's discoveries will lead to insights yet to be imagined. A stirring and informative introduction to a scientific epic still unfolding, Welcome to the Genome is an essential guide for understanding - and participating in - the incredible explorations, discussions, and realizations of the Genomic Revolution.
Customer Reviews:
nicely presented but elementary, politically correct.......2006-03-28
i agree with another reviewer about the multicultural bias in the book. im strongly opposed to politics interfering with science, and for that i was tempted to give this book 1 star. a book by cavalli-sforza and a wealth of other evidence clearly document the existence of distinct human races. pity that left wing doctrine had to be infused into yet another work of scientific literature. additionally, eugenics is incorrectly interpreted with respect to the Holocaust. other books do justice to the topic of eugenics instead of branding it as evil as this book does; i heartily recommend them. eugenics is fascinating and is the ultimate aim of the study of human genetics--given that the latter is the topic of this book, its ironic and inappropriate for the authors to wholeheartedly denounce eugenics in the way laymen would.
aside from that, the book is really basic. anyone with some college level background in genetics and biotechnology will find himself quickly skimming through the book's entirety, like i did. for folks below college age or with little exposure to the subject matter, this book is good. its visually appealing and easy reading, also short. there was a neat do-it-yourself at home experiment at the end for viewing your own DNA. its just an extraction, for those of you in the know, but i didnt realize it could be performed so readily.
read the book if youre inexperienced with this but interested in it, and the same for younger ppl. just think critically about the politically touchy subjects rather than accepting them at face value. fearless authors would confront them head on, but after The Bell Curve fiasco its understandable that people would take the easy way out and offer up the usual PC science. consider Lawrence Summers (formerly) of Harvard
An executive summary of genomics for the lay person........2005-04-24
If you need a quick overview to the current state of the art of genetic science and its applications, you'll find this book to be a useful text. I appreciated the succinct style and depth of presentation.
However, as one who follows the news on the ethics of genetic testing, I was annoyed by the authors' obvious bias towards the multicultural viewpoint. They champion the view that there is no genetic basis for race, baldly stating on page 131 that "commonly used ethnic and racial categories do not accurately reflect human genetic variation." The endnote to support this claim is a reference to a 1997 study.
Being a 2005 publication, the authors had both the opportunity and the duty to cite more recent, conflicting studies that support the opposing view, namely that genetic variations fall closely into traditional groupings of race. For example, see the February 2004 American Journal of Human Genetics article by Neil Risch of the Stanford University School of Medicine.
My point is that neither view is definitively supported at this stage of understanding of the genome, yet the authors present the issue as a settled question. Other, similarly-slanted statements throughout the book stain the authors otherwise readable presentation of the science and the ethical questions to which it gives rise.
