Since I named my son Graham after Bill, I thought perhaps I should know a little bit more about his life. I now now know alot more!

It is written in a narative style which makes it very easy to read. The stories are told by the people who were there, some happy, some sad ,some very funny.

If you are interested in the life of this man or even the history of modern day Rock and Roll Concert Production, how it started and evolved, I highly recomend this book.

This book is a little weird (to me) in concept but it works out really well in the end. The book goes from Bill's early days in Nazi Germany all the way to his death with no major stone left unturned. Lots of great stories with very little in the way of punches being pulled. I mean Bill really tells you what he is thinking. Very uncensored. Covers the drugs and the behind scenes stuff with no BS involved. Shows the guy for who he was, warts and all and lets him and the people he is talking about retort one another which I thought was weird in a good way. This book is of great interest to anyone who has probably gotten to this point in reading reviews. If you are interested in this type of subject then this book is a must.

This book is structured so that as Bill Graham comments on different times of his life, he allows the persons hes speaking of to comment in the next paragraph. This makes for some very interesting reading. Grham discusses his time in Korea and killing the enemy. This experience allows him to have an abundant amount of courage when it comes to dealing with band managers in the future. Bill discusses Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Zeppelin, the Stones, J Geils Band, Santana, the Who and all the tense dealings with each of these personalities. This book could have benefitted from better pictures of the bands. Thats my only critical comment.

This book tells stories about hock from when it first began. It tells about the triumphs and tragedies. You hear about how eddie shore stopped a players career and how howie morenz died. This book is a must read for all hockey fans.

Amazing.
Even if you never plan to game in this world, this is a book well worth owning two copies of at least, since i give you low odds on getting it back when any friend borrows it who has a thirst for high adventure!
The Urth of Severian's time is a very very strange place, about as weird as the dreams you might have had if you are lucky.
As a game sourcebook, it stands as a monument of achievement on the part of the writer, since it must have been the most difficult GURPS book to write, ever.
The only thing it misses is the droll melancholy humor of the source material, which is a very forgivable sin. It is still a compendium i don't think i could have written even with a team of friends to help me.

A solid GUPRS supplement, but somewhat lacking.......2000-05-04

First of All, this was written by Michael Andre-Driussi, who also wrote Lexicon Urthus, not the writer credited to it on this page. This is a good GURPS supplement, and useable with other RPGs as well. I think the broad strokes of the world Wolfe presents make a worldbook based on Urth a bit thin. Too much detail and stuff would have to be made up. I really wanted more fleshed-out plot ideas for adventures in the New Sun world, rather than a guidebook. Also, I missed having an overall area map.

This is a great book! I truly wondered; after seeing that it was to be made, if they could POSSIBLY do it justice. They did and more. I found this to be valuable enough that I reccomend it even to non-gamers who want a cool resource book for the series itself. DO you have questions about societal caste? Look it up it is in there. It also gives a complete breakdown of the life of Severian in case Mr. Wolfe was a bit oblique for you. (Which is ENTIRELY possible:))

The End of History.......2000-04-17

Gurps New Sun lets you enter the weird and wonderful world of Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun, wherein one is allowed to accompany the young Severian, journeyman of the guild known as The Seekers of Truth and Penitence (the torturers), on his travels through an ancient and dying earth. If you haven't read the books, you should, be it just for the greater enjoyment of this roleplaying supplement. Gurps New Sun is maybe the strangest world yet to be published for Gurps, but it is also one of the most beautiful: strange beasts, aliens and smilodons, knights with "pyrotechnic polearms", mysterious guilds, barely human nobles, enourmous cities and antique spaceships, all set on an earth so ancient, it's inhabitants no longer practice history, for fear of an overwhelming past. In this setting ANYTHING can happen - and the possibility of time travel makes it the ideal "Far Future" setting for any Gurps Time Travel campaign. P.S.: even the artwork is good.

The book covers all of the bases. buttons, interactivity, sound and websites, more importantly, it is easy to comprehend and get the gist of actionscript 2 which will make it easier to pick up actionscript 3.

Great resource for the intended audience.......2007-05-08

Do not attempt to be able to learn from this book without first knowing how to create Flash documents. Of course, you should also know how to program (logic can't be taught) and JavaScript seems to be very similar to ActionScript (although knowing any object-oriented language and event-driven programming will suffice).

This book does what it sets out to do, which is to get you familiarized with ActionScript. Its explanation on creating empty movies and ordering of layers (which during the runtime don't actually exist) was not as good as other references but overall, an excellent reference book.

What a horrible introduction to such a great programming language. I lost all motivation to learn anything about ActionScript after trying to stay awake for a couple of hours. Not good for those using Flash for artistic purposes. Maybe good for programmers who just need a reference. I've had good teachers, and bad teachers. This one puts you in a coma due to a lack any type of human emotion or social skills. If you have spent your life in front of a computer, not communicating with anyone other than your 10th level paladin/wizard and his cohort of wood nymphs, this book is for you!

If you are familiar with flash and/or programming at all then this book is for you. Together with the online Flash documentation from Adobe's website, I can find out how to do anything I want to. The book gives great examples of everything that it discusses. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to make killer Flash content.

It's true that it requires a little bit of programming background to understand what this book is saying sometimes but let me emphasize that it takes minimal experience.

Huh?? Which Part of the Series??.......2007-01-18

This description doesn't include enough information to be useful. "Heritage: Civilisation and the Jews" refers to a book and to a set of about eight 60-minute video programs on VHS or DVD. So what is it that this "Video Tape" contains? (Unfortunately, this is a problem that comes up frequently on Amazon--does the book have a CD with it? etc. and there's no way to let anyone know except by writing a "review".)

Essential Concepts for Geotechs.......2006-06-22

I hope the reviewer who rated the book one star doesn't consider himself a geotechnical engineer. To state that book is not good because it was not useful on the PE exam is laughable. This text presents essential concepts and methodolgies that are needed in the field of geotechnical engineering. The chapters on the shear strength of cohesionless and cohesive soils as well as stress paths is worth the money alone. The three most important things in geotechnical engineering are shear strength, shear strength, shear strength. A geotechnical engineer needs to have complete understanding of the shear strength soils. If all you want to accomplish is to pass the PE exam, then like the reviewer said, look elsewhere. If you to be a competent geotechnical engineer, purchase this classic text.

It is a good book, used as the requred text for the graduate soil mechanics class at UC Berkeley. I learned a lot from it. There are also other good references there, e.g. Soil Mechanics and Foundations by Muni Budhu.

If there were 6 stars to give...I would.......2002-10-03

As a Geotechnical engineer in a graduate program I can honestly say that this is my most frequently consulted reference.
More accessible and practical than Mitchell, or Taylor, (though not as theoretical or fundamental).

Holtz & Kovacs is a clear step above Das, Coduto, or Huang in scholarship.

This is a book that you keep for your engineering career.

This book is an outstanding text for learning soil mechanics. I have used it extensively in post-graduate work, and wish I had it when I was an undergrad. Clear and concise, it makes understanding some of the more esoteric concepts a lot easier.
