Boring.......2007-05-16
I should have read the title better...."Life and Death of An Oilman: The CAREER of E.W. Marland". (capital letters mine). This was mainly 90% about the business life of Marland, whereas a true life story would have been VERY interesting. How he married his step daughter and lived in that wonderful mansion, but very little is said about any of that. Hence, I skipped through the book and read hardly any of it. Glad I bought it used.
Enjoyed this book.......2001-04-18
This book is an easy read. There are really two stories told: Marland's biography, and also, an history of early economic development in the northern part of the young state of Oklahoma. In a few chapters you will read about geology, Native American tribes, seizure of Indian lands in the "Cherokee Strip", early oilmen, New York bankers, the roaring 1920's and the Great Depression. They all influenced Marland's career as an oilman. The author's (often acerbic) opinions about persons and events are freely given throughout his book.

Book Description
Nineteen-twenty was a crucial year not just for the Chicago White Sox but for the game of baseball, in the aftermath of the 1919 World Series scandal. This work is both a collective biography of four individuals whose careers in baseball were forever altered in 1920 and an examination of the 1920 baseball season as a whole. It highlights four legendary personalities-Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis, the longtime commissioner of Major League Baseball; Babe Ruth, the great pitcher and slugger who changed the game forever; Buck Weaver, the true lone innocent among the Black Sox players who threw the 1919 World Series; and Rube Foster, the fine pitcher, imaginative manager, and great administrator of blackball who founded the Negro National League. Key events that affected the season and the history of baseball are discussed. Nineteen-twenty was the year that Ruth shattered his own home run record and began a hitting spree that brought in record numbers of fans to the ballparks. It was the year that Rube found a way for large numbers of African-Americans to play the game meaningfully, before loyal crowds, despite Jim Crow laws that kept them out of the majors and minors.

Like being transported to 1920.......2003-08-17
This is an excellent book covering one of the most interesting baseball periods in history. It really evokes the era, and what it was like to witness Babe Ruth's ascension. The Rube Foster story is just amazing and I can only imagine what a genius like him could accomplish today. The Black Sox sections are probably the least interesting, simply because the story has been covered so extensively in the last few years. What's here is very well done, however, and if Buck Weaver was half the person/player this book claims, he was done a bigger injustice than I thought. Definitely recommended!

Book Description
If cultures are always in the making, this book catches one kind of culture on the make. Academics will be familiar with audit in the form of research and teaching assessments - they may not be aware how pervasive practices of 'accountability' are or of the diversity of political regimes under which they flourish. Twelve social anthropologists from across Europe and the Commonwealth chart an influential and controversial cultural phenomenon.
Book Description
Newly revised, enlarged edition of first book on great Russian chess master focuses on the tactics, strategy and even psychological approaches employed by Karpov in winning against Bronstein, Smyslov, Browne, Gligoric, Spassky, Korchnoi and other greats. 100 games analyzed simply and clearly, showing exactly how Karpov won. Indispensable for players seeking to improve their own games. Over 300 chess diagrams.
Customer Reviews:
An essential peice to mastery in the KARPOV STYLE!.......2006-04-29
You can easily get opening repertoire books [try Batsford due to their excellent track record] on the Ruy Lopez, Taminov Sicilian, Queens Gambit Declined (for black)- these are Karpov's main opening and defensive weapons in this text, Buy a program that builds tactical motifs and endgame motifs (most of us all need this, unless were GM / IM), and finally this book will show us how to work them all together as a cohesive unit. And you should have a clear path to mastery, inspired by Karpov. All you have to do now is just devote whatever precious time you have left for chess into this system. I've improved A LOT (went from 1600 level to near-Expert) and still haven't scratced the surface yet. The reason I have it 4 stars instead of 5 was that, I don't mind the descriptive notation and Edmar Mednis's analysis which is very helpful and clear. However, what I would like to see in the NEXT edition is algebreic notation and having Anatoly Karpov himself throw in some of his own comments on the book. Don't discount the comments of the late Mednis, but hearing from THE MAN himself about his own chess thoughts and what he is trying to accomplish would be ideal. I highly reccomend this title! Definitely on my stranded island list.
Karpov's Technique.......2005-09-16
This book covers one hundered of Karpov's games up to 1972. The games are outdated but the book has got excellent annotations and reasoning behind Karpov's moves. It shows how Karpov uses his technique to grind out a win. It is a good example of how to win from a winning position. Another similar book is Turning Advantage into Victory which shows how to use technique to win a won game. Both books are best read side by side. You can learn to improve your technique by playing through these games and see how GM Karpov wins in effortless fashion.
Enjoyable book.......2005-09-13
Just like the title this is a most have for chess lovers. Im enjoying every game . I think this is not for analisys freeks. Its a sensitive and nice recount of the psychological factors and practicals factors of Karpov strategies. I think it is a most enjoyable book and sure it is improving in my understanding of the game
Karpov is Dissected with this book.......2002-08-31
Full Packed book on Karpov! It has statistics on Karpov's chess records during the 1970's era, which includes favorite openings used, wins / losses / draws against IM's and GM's, etc.
The work done by Mednis here is more for the "easy reading" type of chess player, unlike Botvinnik or Kotov's books which are jam-packed with variations and analysis and more analysis. The reader is to be entertained. Mednis often praises Karpov here when Anatoly makes those "multi-purpose" moves. Karpov has a knack of making such moves. Learn some of those tricks from this book.
I am a 1800 - 2000 rated player, and regularly play in the school-university tournaments. I used the material in this book (the openings Karpov plays, the karpov Middlegame Technique, the 'How -to-win-ala-Karpov' commandments that Mednis gave) to capture the gold medal in the year-round tournament.
I didn't know Karpov this way.......2002-06-24
Before reading this book I thought Karpov was a kind of "Chess Beast". But now I know he became great 'cause of his patience and ability to read correctly the position without taking unnecessary risks. I was astonished to see the number of games he won in quite balanced positions because his adversaries were not able to keep the balance and let the draw run away.
The comments of Mr.Mednis are generous and easy to grasp.

The Definitive Guide to MySQL 5, Third Edition (Definitive Guide)
ASIN: 0596003064 |
Book Description
As users come to depend on MySQL, they find that they have to deal with issues of reliability, scalability, and performance--issues that are not well documented but are critical to a smoothly functioning site. This book is an insider's guide to these little understood topics. Author Jeremy Zawodny has managed large numbers of MySQL servers for mission-critical work at Yahoo!, maintained years of contacts with the MySQL AB team, and presents regularly at conferences. Jeremy and Derek have spent months experimenting, interviewing major users of MySQL, talking to MySQL AB, benchmarking, and writing some of their own tools in order to produce the information in this book. In High Performance MySQL you will learn about MySQL indexing and optimization in depth so you can make better use of these key features. You will learn practical replication, backup, and load-balancing strategies with information that goes beyond available tools to discuss their effects in real-life environments. And you'll learn the supporting techniques you need to carry out these tasks, including advanced configuration, benchmarking, and investigating logs. Topics include:
- A review of configuration and setup options
- Storage engines and table types
- Benchmarking
- Indexes
- Query Optimization
- Application Design
- Server Performance
- Replication
- Load-balancing
- Backup and Recovery
- Security

Self made DBA.......2007-08-14
A great overview of MySQL, with a cursory introduction to virtually every field a DBA will encounter over the years. The book is aimed at someone who has already used MySQL, but does not require in-depth knowledge - it's well written and should serve as a great starting point for further research. Jeremy covers: indexes, engines, query tricks, backup, security, and more. For a seasoned DBA, this book may not offer as much, but for the rest of us, it's a highly recommended read!
Practical Book for MySQL 4.x users.......2006-02-10
This book is very practical and gives a clean insight for Power Users of MySQL. It also illustrates some concepts in brief and gets user going fast. Some of the topics like backups, load balancing are covered very well. In short following is what I can say in points.
-Very good quick reference and tips for mysql 4.x users
-Practical Tips and performance issues which you may not find in mysql official reference
-Writing style is definitely "get going" type and not a "comprehensive guide" style.
I liked this book and I use it as a reference. I would recommend this book to any MySQL 4.x users. Specially for those having the database in production environment, this book is really handy.
Good book overall, but may grow obsolete to MySQL5........2006-01-15
I mainly bought this book so that I could get some insight into 'advanced' Storage and Replication techniques w/ MySQL.
Jeremy provided some pretty detailed and easy to understand examples, with decently comprehensive descriptions which did help answer some of the questions I had.
I'd suggest this book to anyone who wants to understand the principles of Storage and Replication techniques in MySQL4. This book is definately a kick in the right direction, but does not take you too far, so I'd say this is for intermediate users.
MySQL5 has many new storage and replication features not mentioned in this book, some of which resolve a lot of the 'problematic' storage and replication issues that this book discusses, thus making SOME of the content irrelevent (or obsolete) to MySQL5. However, the overall principles remain the same, and can be applied to either version.
If you're using MySQL4, then this book is for you!
If you're using MySQL5, you may want to wait for a revised edition of this book.
I sure hope Jeremy is working on a revised version for MySQL5! *hint*hint* =)
A computer book actually worth reading.......2005-09-13
I read approximately 2 computer-related books a month, and have done so for the last 10 years. This book is the best computer book I have read in the last 5 years, hands down.
Not content on the basic "how to install, learn SQL, etc" route, Zawodny and company have chosen to give you real nuggets of wisdom to tune your MySQL instance with. This book is for the advanced MySQL developer/DBA/Admin, and medium to high knowledge of MySQL is a must to use this book effectively.
I would recommend this book to anyone with performance problems coming from MySQL. As always, check your code first :)
Easy Reading but lacking some things.......2005-08-20
This is a book for someone that knows MySQL and wants to give a leap forward, the book is an easy read, you start read and in an afternoon you finish it (it is not a boring book).
Despite all the explanation between the different engines, master/slaves, optimized queries, there is no answers about the topic of binary versus compiled install. The author has 2 or 3 pages about it but it doesnt say absolutely nothing

Great History.......2007-06-08
This book begings with the big bang and ends with the end of the world. In between are thousands of years of interesting historical occurances from the time before Christ to the death of Princess Diana. If you are interested in any aspect of History this book is for you
Clear-eyed, if extremely conventional.......2003-02-16
This fascinating book is a look at many historical mysteries and misunderstandings, ranging from the Big Bang, through the "real" George Washington, and on to the death of Princess Diana. Along the way, conspiracies are debunked and misinformation is swept away. Each topic is given between two and ten pages, with many colorful pictures and informational sidebars being tossed in.
Overall, I found this to be a fascinating read. If you have any pet conspiracies, then this book will disappoint you. But, if you are interested in a clear-eyed, if extremely conventional, look at a group of historical mysteries, then this book is for you.
intriguing.......2002-09-09
This book covers a wide range of mysteries and conspiracy theories, and is very interesting.Don't hesitate to buy it if you are at all interested in the unexplained.

wonderful.......2007-03-06
My father also is a Lumbee from Pembroke NC. Information about our tribe is very hard to find, yet this book helps answer many questions. Thankfully my father lets me know who is who which is helpful, since I have never lived in Pembroke. I highly recommend this book to anyone, Indian or not who would love to learn more about a beautiful native culture.
Great history of a little-known Native American tribe.......2000-08-04
My father is a Lumbee who was born and raised in Pembroke, North Carolina. Unfortunately, in California, it's next to impossible to find out information on the Lumbee Indians in any general text on Native Americans. This book, along with "To Die Game" (which I first read as a teenager) are the two best resources on Lumbee history I have run across.Like many people out there, I've always wanted to know something about my ancestors, and Mr. Dial seems to know just about everything. I've never met him but he is spoken very highly about by my relatives, and upon reading "The Only Land I Know" I can see why!

History of Ideas of Models and Physically Similar Systems.......2007-08-10
As author, I'd like to provide the synopsis/abstract of my book "Wittgenstein Flies A Kite: A Story of Models of Wings and Models of the World" as it appears on my own webpage:
"Abstract: Wittgenstein told friends on many occasions that he came to see how things in the world can be represented in language by thinking about scale models, and that it occurred while he was a soldier, in the autumn of 1914. This book is the result of investigating the idea that perhaps he meant _experimental engineering_ scale models. It is well known that Wittgenstein had been an aeronautical engineer before going to Cambridge to study philosophy with Bertrand Russell in 1911. Why only in 1914, then, did this insight occur? It so happens that 1914 was the year that the basis of the method of experimental engineering scale models was formally set out and presented, by a philosophically-minded physicist, as a matter of a purely logical principle about any symbolic system that is used to represent physical relationships. In fact, a whole array of discussions about similarity arose in 1913-1914, in physics, biology, and chemistry. The book lays out this previously untold story in the history of ideas, presents a new reading of Wittgenstein's philosophical work (Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus) and explains how many heretofore puzzling claims in it click into a coherent account on this new reading. "
However, I don't think you need to have any interest in Wittgenstein to appreciate the history of ideas in the book. I am not aware of another book that gives an account of the historical background to, and a critical-historical review of, the idea of physically similar systems ranging from Galileo to Rayleigh and beyond, including physics, mathematics, biology, and chemistry.
The book also contains an English translation of Boltzmann's 1894 lecture on Aeronautics as an appendix.
.
Sterrett Flies a Kite.......2007-04-24
As a newly arrived student at Cambridge University Ludwig Wittgenstein bluntly demanded of his tutor, Bertrand Russell, to tell him whether or not he had any talent for philosophy - "if not, I shall become an aeronaut." His pre-Cambridge aeronautical and engineering studies (including at an experimental kite-flying station) are briefly discussed by his biographers, Brian McGuinness and Ray Monk, without, however, attaching much importance to their relevance for his subsequent philosophical work. Although it is part of Wittgenstein lore that he was led to philosophy through a preoccupation with the foundations of the mathematics he was using for his engineering studies, until now no one has suggested that there was a close linkage between his work on aeronautics and his first book, the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. This is Susan Sterrett's thesis.
Sterrett does have some interesting things to say about the kinds of aeronautical problems which would have preoccupied Wittgenstein during his studies, and about the role played by leading theoretical physicists, like Ludwig Boltzmann, in exploring the foundations of heavier-than-air flight. She also has some illuminating insights into the parallelism between Wittgenstein's ideas on how language can represent reality and the work of physicists on how the models used in aeronautical experiments can represent the real thing, a flying machine.
Unfortunately, however, the book doesn't much further our understanding of this period in Wittgenstein's life, not least because of its heavy reliance on secondary sources (in particular the biographies by McGuinness and by Monk). It also veers between labouring over some quite obvious points (I lost count of the number of times the reader was reminded that Wittgenstein was born in 1889) and explanations of scientific and engineering concepts that left this philosopher, for one, floundering. If this book was intended for a general readership it seems to have missed its mark.
In the final analysis, however, Sterrett fails to establish her central claim - that the leading idea of the Tractatus was derived from an obscure mathematician called Edgar Buckingham. We're asked to believe that Wittgenstein was influenced by a mathematician he never mentioned in any of his work, published or unpublished, or in conversations with friends and pupils. Yet, if nothing else, Wittgenstein was punctilious in recording his influences, including people who influenced him in surprising ways. Moreover, Buckingham's paper was published in an obscure American journal in mid-1914 when Wittgenstein had already returned to Vienna and was preparing to go to the Russian front. The only person flying a kite, it seems, is Sterrett herself.
A search for Wittgenstein's inspiration.......2006-05-14
A reviewer of my book, `Concepts: A ProtoTheist Quest for Science-Minded Skeptics,' was critical of my not having cited authors "... such as Hegel, Wittgenstein and Rorty ..." and for not making "... aspect[s] central to postmodern narrative construction ... part of [my] approach." In order to understand what he's taking about, I've since read several books about Wittgenstein. Admittedly, based on my previous readings of scientists who dismiss postmodernism as unscientific, I had not open-mindedly explored postmodern authors. Sterrett's grounding Wittgenstein in the technology of the turn of the twentieth century appealed to my engineering background so I thought she might provide the key to my understanding.
In her first chapter Sterrett cites Wittgenstein seemingly equating the recording of music in a groove of a phonograph record with its musical score. This struck me as a gross misunderstanding. The groove contains a recording of the air vibrations which we hear as musical sound whereas the musical score is an encoding, a transcription of that sound into the `language' of musicians. The recording of sound in the groove is similar to remembering that sound in one's brain; that is, a phonograph can reproduce that sound just as a person can imagine, hum, sing, whistle or play it on a musical instrument from memory without having to transcribe it into its musical score. Thus the recorded sound is not the equivalent of the musical score.
But it really doesn't matter whether that analogy is valid if that's what inspired Wittgenstein to his insights about philosophy; so be it. Thru-out Sterrett's book she speculates about what in Wittgenstein's milieu may have influenced him and helped shape his thinking; for example see pages 203-5. For a Wittgenstein scholar, this may make fascinating reading, but for me it was only marginally helpful in understanding his ideas, altho I found her history of the early days of aeronautical research interesting. It also took me back more than fifty years to my course in fluid mechanics.
What I gained about Wittgenstein's ideas from reading Sterrett is the distinction between facts and propositions. A proposition is an attempt to depict a fact in some language, whatever that language might be. A musical score is a `language' of musicians. A formula is a mathematical `language'. And of course there are many spoken/written languages that are only intelligible to those who know that language. These `languages' are attempts to encode perceived reality, facts, into propositions, that is, statements about reality that humans can comprehend provided they know that language. Then there's the relation between language and models. I would argue that, while languages may be analogous to models, they're not the same, any more than the musical score is the same as the record groove.
Curiously, Sterrett only covers Wittgenstein's thought processes up to his "Tractatus" eventho later, as reported by other authors, he reconsidered and rejected much of what he'd said in the "Tractatus". Another minor quibble: on pages 182, 185 & 201 she refers to Figure 3 with no mention of where to find Figure 3; it doesn't appear until page 225.
Very intriguing thesis!.......2006-02-22
I do not even recall Ray Monk delving into this connection though I will have to go back and look. Looking at the link between modeling in engineering and language analysis certainly seems to supply some intriguing questions with answers.
Product Description
History: Fiction or Science? is the most explosive tractate on history ever written - however, every theory it contains, no matter how unorthodox, is backed by solid scientific data. The book is well-illustrated, contains over 446 graphs and illustrations, copies of ancient manuscripts, and countless facts attesting to the falsity of the chronology used nowadays, which never cease to amaze the reader. Eminent mathematician proves that: Jesus Christ was born in 1153 and crucified in 1186 The Old Testament refers to mediaeval events. Apocalypse was written after 1486. Does this sound uncanny? This version of events is substantiated by hard facts and logic - validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources - to a greater extent than everything you may have read and heard about history before. The dominating historical discourse in its current state was essentially crafted in the XVI century from a rather contradictory jumble of sources such as innumerable copies of ancient Latin and Greek manuscripts whose originals had vanished in the Dark Ages and the allegedly irrefutable proof offered by late mediaeval astronomers, resting upon the power of ecclesial authorities. Nearly all of its components are blatantly untrue! For some of us, it shall possibly be quite disturbing to see the magnificent edifice of classical history to turn into an ominous simulacrum brooding over the snake pit of mediaeval politics. Twice so, in fact: the first seeing the legendary millenarian dust on the ancient marble turn into a mere layer of dirt - one that meticulous unprejudiced research can eventually remove. The second, and greater, attack of unease comes with the awareness of just how many areas of human knowledge still trust the three elephants of the consensual chronology to support them. Nothing can remedy that except for an individual chronological revolution happening in the minds of a large enough number of people.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
