Those lessons range widely, from the psychological ("Let your attitude determine your golf game; don't let your golf game determine your attitude") to the physical ("To hit the ball far, hit the ball straight; I try to hit the ball at 80 percent of my overall power, because at 80 percent I have a much better chance of hitting the ball with the center of the clubface") to the technical ("When you begin your downswing, and your left foot returns to the ground, put your cleats in the same holes they were in originally"). They include drills like the Hitchhike Drill, where you place your right hand behind your back and your left thumb on your right shoulder, then in a spinning motion move your thumb to your left shoulder -- that's the golf swing in miniature! There are the Ten Commandments of Putting, six steps to successful long bunker shots, and tips for playing in the wind and rain, on fast greens, or out of long rough. Yet all are ultimately about something more than golf.

Every shot I take is a classic peace written by my favorite golfer, Davis Love III. This book portays his relationship with his father and how this father, Davis Love Jr., helped him on his way to success and on his way to becoming a great golfer and American. This book tells about this Davis Jr., Masters debut in 1988. The U.S.G.A. Book of the year was truly amazing and I would read it again and again.

Davis is so classy a person and a talented golfer. What about that shot on 17th at Augusta? This book tugs at your heart relating the death of his father. Then the episode with his first major and the rainbow. His brother caddying. The eleven cent putting drill (I keep the putter and eleven cents in the den for practice since then.) This endures many who never pulled for this humble man cheer for another big win for DL3 and the rest of his legion fans pull for another title for our hero! Keep on being you, DL3. You and Freddie are our guys. Thanks for this read.

Even if you are not a true golf fan, this is one book you should read. The instructional tips are inevitably useful and the inspiration that you receive will stay with you. For all of us who idolized our fathers, this book expresses those feelings wonderfully and compassionately. Thank you for writing this book Davis.
The Best Most Inspirational Book I've Ever Read!.......2000-02-17
This is a very inspirational book and is more than just a plain golf book. I am 12 years old and a big fan of Davis Love 3. This showed me what golf was all about. There were many hints and tips that guided me through my gof years so far and I believe this to be the best book i've ever read.

I currently have three HOT books included this Illustrator CS book. This one is really disappoint one. Why? The book is about graphic, but all the pictures in the book are black and white. However, it comes with cd-rom, so it receives 2 stars otherwise.....
Not as good as other HOT publications.......2006-06-22
I have used the HOT for Flash and for Dreamweaver and have learned a great deal from both of them. But the Illustrator CS publication is far inferior on many levels, I am afraid (I know that I am in the minority here). The communication and conveyance of information is many times unclear and unfocused and assumes a level of knowledge is already in existence. The structure of the lessons are many times confusing, as is the graphics associated with them. I luckily got mine from the library and did not pay for it. I would not spend the money on this one, and do the same. Or try it out for yourself and then spend the money. Good luck, and keep up the good work with the other HOT publications!
Tells you why, not just how.......2006-05-24
Jeff Van West has a winnner of an Illustrator tutorial. A lot of other how-to books give you a bunch of steps that lead the user to a "whiz-bang" result, but they lack in explaining why and how that result was achieved. This book goes through the process of explaining the cause and effect of Illustrator's tools and effects _before_ going through the steps, leading to a better understanding of when to use those tools and effects. I've used "Adobe Illustrator CS Hands-On Training" as a textbook in my beginning Illustrator class, and it's been a wonderful teaching tool. My only real complaint (and it's a minor one at that) is that the graphics are not all that pretty (graphic artists are attracted to shiny objects). Still, the book accomplishes what it sets out to do.
An excellent Illustrator Tutorial.......2005-08-18
This is an excellent training book. It is well-written, presents the material in logical order, and holds the reader's attention. Examples are clearly presented, step-by-step.
An excellent introduction to Adobe Illustrator.......2005-06-26
This book does a great job on teaching the basics of Adobe Illustrator CS through a step by step approach. Each lesson has plenty of detail and background information for the topic covered. Additionally, the Mac and PC differences were pointed out when needed. The 20 plus chapters cover a lot of useful materials from the various tools to type effects and even the new 3D capabilities. With this book I was able to familiarize myself with Illustrator quickly and painlessly.
The only problem with this book is that it's a bit sloppy. I spotted a number of spelling and grammar errors throughout the book. A few sections even had a minor step or two missing or out of place. But with so many screen shots and even videos it's quite hard to get lost. There are about a dozen videos that demonstrate some of the more complicated steps. The companion web site has another 20 or so extra videos on various new topics. The included CD also contains extra material such as a bonus chapter on integration with other programs. There are also sample chapters and demo movies from other books in the hands-on training (HOT) series.
I've had good success working through other books in the HOT series including this one. Some more editing could have probably benefited this book. But, I can still, without a doubt, recommend Adobe Illustrator CS Hands-On Training by Jeff Van West.

Long Overdue.......2004-12-10
I live out in the west where the Buffalo Soldiers (so called by the Indians because the tightly curled hair of the soldiers matched that of the buffalo). When I picked up the book I first looked for and found stories of the famed 24th Infantry Regiment, one of the black regiments founded right after the Civil War of mostly veterans and freed slaves.
From there I found myself fascinated by the stories of individual African Americans in military service. It is clear that the colored, then negro, then black, then African American soldiers have more than earned their place in the sun. I can only hope that this book shines that light.

What a rip-off!!!.......2007-08-16
What a rip-off! If you buy this piece of over priced toilet paper, you will definitely be sorry. It's 1/3rd of an inch thick and has a little over 200 pages. And guess how much they charge for it new??? 40$!!!! I got mine USED for 18$, but still. I could buy the 7th Harry Potter book with a hard cover which is at least 2 1/2 inches thick cheaper than this over priced piece of kindling. It's just another example of how companies are exploiting poor college kids to make their stock's value jump up a few extra cents.

The projects are pitched at a level such that a physicist can reproduce them in a few hours' work at home with commonly available materials. Alternatively, with some supervision, a student could also build the projects for a science fair or undergraduate course. The science will appeal to a broad age range. This book contains selected contributions from the geoENV98 - the Second European Conference on Geostatistics for Environmental Sciences, held in Valencia, Spain in November 1998.
This second book of the geoENV series illustrates the developments on geostatistics as applied to the environmental sciences which have occurred during the past two years. It also presents practical applications which will be of interest to both researchers and practitioners.
The book starts with three keynote papers on ecology, climatology and soil science, followed by forty-three contributions. The contents of the book are eminently practical. The objective of the editors was to compile a set of papers in which the reader could perceive how geostatistics is applied within the environmental sciences. A few selected theoretical contributions are also included. The papers are organized in the following seven main areas
