Ageless Sam Snead made golf look easy with his silky-smooth swing, and he played the game at an elite level longer than any other golfer. His accomplishments were phenomenal: a PGA Tour record of eighty-one career victories, including Greensboro at age fifty-two; seven major championships, including three Master's titles and three PGA Championships; a round of 59 in 1959 at age forty-six; and induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Snead was perhaps the sport's most graceful and limber champion. Together with Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson, who also were born in 1912, Snead formed what arguably was golf's greatest triumvirate of competitors. These three men nearly dominated golf for much of the 1940s and well into the 1950s.
Even past the age of seventy, Snead battled his way onto leader boards against men a generation younger than he. He was a star attraction for many years on a Senior PGA Tour he helped pioneer.
When Snead passed away in May 2002, he left behind a life filled with stirring accomplishments as well as stunning heartbreaks. I Remember Sam Snead includes detailed reminiscences of "Slammin' Sammy" as told by dozens of the players and people who knew him, including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Fuzzy Zoeller, early tour days traveling companion Johnny Bulla, and many other friends and golf writers.

Made between 1936 and 1956, these films -- Fury, You Only Live Once, You and Me, Man Hunt, Hangmen Also Die, The Ministry of Fear, The Woman in the Window, Scarlet Street, Cloak and Dagger, Secret beyond the Door, House by the River, Rancho Notorious, The Blue Gardenia, The Big Heat, Moonfleet, While the City Sleeps, and Beyond a Reasonable Doubt -- broadly validate the insights of auteur theory while emphasizing the importance of the narrative and representational codes peculiar to a given genre.
Humphries examines these films in light of semiotics and psychoanalysis, drawing on Freud's "Wolfman" case and Lacan's theories of "the subject" and "the look" to bring novel solutions to crucial theoretical problems in such areas as the spectator, classical film narrative, and genre. In applying critical theory to Lang's Hollywood-made film noirs, melodramas, Westerns, and spy films, Humphries provocatively complicates auteur theory and revitalizes an unjustly neglected phase in the career of one of cinema's boldest visionaries.

This little kit was missing whatever style tools were supposed to be included. We bought it as part of a gift, so we felt badly... even though it looks like any tools would be tiny.

Great Starter Book for Office 2003!.......2006-07-15
I teach small classes for Nebraska Workforce Development clients - usually from 1 to 4 students - and I have used this book for 2 years now. You should see the delight on their faces when they begin to learn Office skills and do real projects! Many of them go on to learn more and get good jobs... but they just needed a user friendly way to get started.

Rejecting the artificial dichotomy between qualitative and quantitative research strategies in the social and behavioral sciences, Isadore Newman and Carolyn R. Benz argue that the two approaches are neither mutually exclusive nor interchangeable; rather, the actual relationship between the two paradigms is one of isolated events on a continuum of scientific inquiry.
Through graphic and narrative descriptions, Newman and Benz show research to be a holistic endeavor in the world of inquiry. To clarify their argument, they provide a diagram of the "qualitative-quantitative interactive continuum" showing that qualitative analysis with its feedback loops can easily modify the types of research questions asked in quantitative research and that the quantitative results and its feedback can change what will be asked qualitatively.
In their model for research—an "interactive continuum"—Newman and Benz emphasize four major points: the research question dictates the selection of research methods; consistency between question and design can lead to a method of critiquing research studies in professional journals; the interactive continuum model is built around the place of theory; and the assurance of "validity" of research is central to all studies.
