Book Description
In this rollicking, absurd ride, Brian Thacker, bus-tour leader extraordinaire, confesses all as he reveals the best (and worst) of more than 20 trips as a tour leader though Europe. He tells how he fed passengers horsemeat spag bog, hamburgers made from breakfast cereal, and roosters' testicles. He also introduces people to the world of scams, broken rules, terrible blunders, promiscuous locals, and inevitable clashes of cultures when a busful of tourists take on Europe on a four-week tour. Other stories include how he left a passenger standing by the side of a motorway in France for three hours in his underwear clutching a purple toothbrush, and how he lost his driver, his cook, his bus, 10 brightly colored canal bikes, a large church, and eventually his patience. Countries dissected include Belgium, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Spain, and France.

Rule No 5 sex on the bus.......2007-03-22
Funniest book I have read in a long time. Really enjoyed it don't take any notice if the title.
oh, man........2006-10-01
i encountered this book on a friend's bookshelf nearly two years ago. after deciding that i needed to give her copy back to her, i bought my own. it's hysterical and evokes my own laughable memories of trips abroad. definitely worth a read!!
brings back memories.......2006-06-30
absolutely loved this book! reminds me so much of the tour i did in europe and i've even been to most of the extra excursions that were mentioned in the book (i'm suspecting it's the same company). everything about being on tour was completely accurate. fantastic read. made me miss europe, made me miss the people on my tour and made me miss being on holidays and having fun
Poor humor.......2005-07-04
After 2 hours of reading about people drinking and puking and "bonking" you have had enough. Sprinkled in with the gross stuff, are some interesting comments about the landscape and countries they have been in. However, why does he insist on describing every moment someone has to throw up. I also wish he would have skipped the entire section on Amsterdam. Not funny.
Really brought back the memories.......2005-02-24
I've personally been on one of these tours and I can tell you this book is both right on the money and absolutley hilarious! I have some very from memories of my tour - and after leading 20 of them Brian sure has a good story or two to share.
A must for anyone with itchy travel feet.

Spy Kids 3-D Is Da Bomb!.......2003-07-20
If you want to know everything about the Spy Kids 3-D movie that is in theatres July 25, this scrapbook is what you need! The book begins showing us about the "Game Over" video game, who the Toymaker is, what happens when you get into the game and that Carmen is missing inside of it.
Then it tells us about Carmen and the actress that portrays her, Alexa Vega and Juni and Daryl Sabara.
There is a small section on the director and the Beta Testers: Arnold, Francis, Demetra and Rez and the actors that play them. Of course they tell us how they did the computer graphing and all about the green screen 3-D effects.
The book ends with the gadgets of the movie, behind-the-scenes, some old characters that return and on the set pictures.
So, now you know where to get the inside info and really rad pictures of the Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over movie.

A truly impressive product.......2005-02-27
The Blue Planet roleplaying environment is remarkably detailed and shows an amazing amount of creativity. The good folks at Steve Jackson games have simply outdone themselves in recreating this vision within the GURPS system and bringing this unique roleplaying environment to a much larger group.
I strongly urge anybody who has an interest in hard Science Fiction roleplaying to pick up this book. You can either integrate the wonderfully detailed and gritty situation directly into your campaign or use it as a source of ideas for years to come.
Imagine, if you will, that humanity has found a wormhole at the outer edges of our solar system that takes us to one other star system. Further imagine that it contains a big beautiful world with very compatible life forms, no terraforming required. The planet is 97% covered with water so it is named Poseidon.
Now hit humanity with a bioengineering disaster on Earth just as the colony was taking root on the new world. The colonists were primarily scientists and explorers and didn't have the manufacturing capacity to support themselves when Earth stopped sending supplies. Earth's population drops from 10.5 billion to 4.8 billion and the colonies around the solar system are devastated lack of by support from Earth.
Seventy years has passed and humanity has finally recovered enough to start sending ships to Posideon. The surviving locals have done quite well for themselves and mostly ignore the strange visitors from the stars. After all, what could Posideon provide that would be worth a year-long trip in a cold spaceship? Nothing until a new compound is found that has extraordinary medical properties... Then the race is on, the new frontier explodes with miners, explorers, scientists, and others trying to make a living.
Will Posideon go the way of poor battered Earth and become a victim of Humanity's rapaciousness? Has Humanity learned its lesson? Or does Posideon have something up it's sleeve? Something sinister and long hidden? Read the book and find out, this one is a treat.

You'll get much better luck and practice with the online free material than this book
SSDD - Much like it's predecessor (Site Server).......2005-09-21
Like Site Server - you won't find a ton of material that is actually useful about this technology.
[...]
as well as other online resources.
Sorry, guy. We want to give you a big pat on the back, but that's kind of improbable under the current book conditions. This has been a current problem since back in the day when Site Server first pushed into the marketplace (if you will recall that mess, and that BizTalk's features used to be part of the pipeline configurator mechanism for extending SS-EC to full EC-functionality).
Give it another try. Still, something is better than nothing, but in terms of spending personal money, I'll pass.
The Only Book Availalbe for BizTalk 2004.......2005-08-30
I understand the frastrations of the other reviewers towards this book. BizTalk 2004 is quite different from the earlier versions. BizTalk 2004 is not well documented and there is no other reference book available. Many of us waited anxiously for the arrival of this book and hoped it would biring us extensive and in-depth coverage beyond what was available online, in particular since one of the authors is Scott Woodgate, the product manager of BizTalk, wellknown in BizTalk community.
To be fair, I believe this book desearves more than the current 2-star rating of average customer review. The authors promised "complete coverage" and they did a reasonable job to cover this product. If you are new to BizTalk, you have not choice. You should read this book since it is an authorative introduction.
Scott, I give you 4-star rating to encourage you to provide more in-depth material online at your blog site or in another book.
shoddy and replete with errors of ommission and commission.......2005-07-20
The least the authors can do is review their own work and provide their readers with an errata or a list of corrections for the numerous errors in the book.
I would love to get my money back. Reselling it in the used-book market would be a disservice to the buyers.
Not good enough, Microsoft!.......2005-07-20
With so many errors, I wonder if the authors have even bothered to read through the book after writing it.
They even change the project and solution names during some of the examples.
Maybe that's not a big deal after all, but it's very annoying.

Customer Reviews:
the best reference .......2007-10-10
one of the best encyclopedias in my collection. Excellent two-pages pictures, lots of information, all you need to know on modern military aircrafts.
Very good.......2003-05-05
...Very simply put: You will not be disappointed.
To put into more words...
Very specific, Each plane/helicopter is only one page long, includes dimensions, payload, weight, country of origin, as well as a few paragraphs on how the plane/helicopter came to be.
It is very good, and very sturdy...
Great Book! Awsome Visuals! Great Info!.......2002-07-04
It has awsome information and is one of my favorite books to bring on any trip (just in case). Its use of quick reference is great and as good or better than a Janes Aircraft Recognition guide for the same money. Good deal. You won't regret!
my son loves it!.......2001-08-24
I dreamed about such a book in my childhood. Very colorful, a lot of planes and pictures. My 3-yrs old son loves it. Though, there are some bad points: 1) less known planes are not included 2) at the same time, much attention is often paid to different variants of one plane 3) I found a discrepancy in the schematic view of an aircraft
But, in general the book is great for general reference and children!
Worth buying!
Well done!.......2001-08-06
As usual, Bill Gunston has done an outstanding job in bringing to view the many modern combat aircraft employed today. Though I give it 5 stars, Gunston should have expanded each aircraft with at least two pages to include more photos and a section of what countries have particular aircraft in their inventory. Overall, the book is absolutely fantastic!

Accessible Study on Royal Image-Making.......2003-06-21
I read this book in grad school, and it was one of the most enjoyable and accessible books I read. It is not a biography of Louis XIV but an extensive study on the image-making of the king. The use of the negative-sounding word "Fabrication" in the title makes the cover look very intriguing as it may imply to some that Burke has uncovered much deceit surrounding Louis' image. Actually, Burke uses this term to mean the process and constant renewal of the representation of Louis XIV (10-11). Burke includes chapters on the following subjects: the types of persuasion used (medals, festivals, allegories, etc.), a brief background on Louis' "sunrise", the organization of Louis' image-making system (academies, etc.), the royal image from the time of "personal rule," image-making through victories, reconstruction through peacetime, Louis' "sunset," differences between the ideal and the real, antagonistic images (loyal subjects making gentle fun or giving hopeful advise and actual enemies of the king), the ways in which Louis' image was perceived including the "targets" of Louis' image-makers, and a comparison with rulers before, during, and after his reign. Strangely enough, the Third Reich is not mentioned in the latter chapter which would be a glaring omission to me had it not left the door open for me to write a term paper making such a comparison.
Burke presents a very thorough study examining such things as the changes in medal inscriptions through the years of Louis' rule to a look at what was meant by "public" during this time (pp. 131 and 152). The many photographs makes for a very interesting and enjoyable book. There is also appendixes on the numbers of medals and portraits created during the different decades of Louis' reign. It is a case study of image-making which, if taken as that, is an excellent, complete study. Do not expect a complicated thesis from this work. Burke, for example, does not pursue very strongly the idea of "charisma" (introduced on page 11)and how much "charisma" is tied to personality and "fabrication." One petty complaint is Burke's tendency to throw in French words and phrases. Most often it does not detract from an understanding of the study but, in certain cases, it can be very frustrating. Two of the worst examples are when Burke is describing how the king was surrounded by the gentlemen of his chamber "even when he was..." [the rest being in French] (91) and when Burke mentions a man who found himself in court for remarking "in brutal simplicity, that..." [the rest being in French] (167). But I won't knock off a star because I do not know Francaise.
Power, Pomp and Circumstance.......1999-03-08
The theory that ritual, pomp and circumstance can serve to enhance political power is not a new one. This book, however, makes the case that Louis XIV, in everything he did, worked to style himself as an absolute leader, a god-like ruler. From his artistic and architectural programs, to sumptuary laws, and official celebrations, Louis XIV's goal was always to assert and enhance his power. This is an enthralling book that gives insight to the era of Louis XIV as well as perspective on the use of symbol and ritual to create and maintain power.

Book Description
In this book, Gregory Feist reviews and consolidates the scattered literatures on the psychology of science, then calls for the establishment of the field as a unique discipline. He offers the most comprehensive perspective yet on how science came to be possible in our species and on the important role of psychological forces in an individual’s development of scientific interest, talent, and creativity. Without a psychological perspective, Feist argues, we cannot fully understand the development of scientific thinking or scientific genius.
The author explores the major subdisciplines within psychology as well as allied areas, including biological neuroscience and developmental, cognitive, personality, and social psychology, to show how each sheds light on how scientific thinking, interest, and talent arise. He assesses which elements of scientific thinking have their origin in evolved mental mechanisms and considers how humans may have developed the highly sophisticated scientific fields we know today. In his fascinating and authoritative book, Feist deals thoughtfully with the mysteries of the human mind and convincingly argues that the creation of the psychology of science as a distinct discipline is essential to deeper understanding of human thought processes.

What Others Are Saying about The Psychology of Science .......2006-12-02
Winner, William James Book Award, American Psychological Association, 2007: "Feist argues convincingly for an integrated study of the psychology of science. The writing is entertaining and compelling. The book should be of interest to every psychologist and a very wide audience of educated laypersons" (Prize Committee)
"This book does two things: It provides a comprehensive review of the origins and development of scientific thinking, and it argues for a dedicated study of the psychology of science. . . . The book is entertaining and introduces a perspective on understanding science and the scientific mind that should benefit a wide audience."--Magda Osman, Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA)
"Have you ever wondered what goes on inside scientists' heads when they formulate a grand theory? Or when they decide what hypothesis to test? How does this differ from the mundane reasoning involved when you explain why your car won't start or choose a birthday present for a relative? More generally, do scientists use the same cognitive mechanisms available to us all (supplemented with formal, conceptual, and technological tools)? Or does scientific thinking require more specialized cognitive abilities, available to only a talented few? If you are interested in such questions, then Gregory Feist's The Psychology of Science and the Origins of the Scientific Mind is the book to read...The Psychology of Science and the Origins of the Scientific Mind succeeds on many levels. Feist pulls together a vast range of psychological research with clarity and insight, and he advances an intriguing framework for the cognitive origins of scientific thinking. The book makes a strong case for an integrated study of the psychology of science."--David Lagnada, Science
"A fascinating look at the subject of science and scientific knowledge, The Psychology of Science is a worthwhile book for both academic and non-academic audiences."--Shereen Hassanein, Metapsychology
"Gregory Feist's new book covers two broad topics. The first and longest part is an extended argument that a large body of recent work implicitly falls under the rubric "psychology of science." Feist reviews studies from neuroscience, developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, personality psychology and social psychology to support his assertion. The second part of the book presents a novel theory of the origins of science as the outgrowth of evolutionary processes...Even a casual browse will uncover many fascinating findings...A rich and diverse book."--Ryan Tweney, American Scientist
An important discipline- establishing work .......2006-10-16
This book makes an argument for the establishment of a new academic discipline, " The Psychology of Science". In its first part it discusses the qualities and character of those who do scientific work. In its second it gives a evolutionary psychological explanation of the development of science. This development is summarized by Russ D. Tweny in his outstanding review of this book in 'American Scientist'
The explanation " builds on recent work in evolutionary psychology, cognitive anthropology and evolutionary biology, applying concepts from all of these areas to sketch a theory of how the modern scientific mind could have evolved. Drawing from such writers as Mervin Donald and Steven Mithen, Feist proposes four stages, beginning with "preverbal science," originating perhaps two million years ago, in which predictive folk science operated. The evolution of language (which took place perhaps 50,000 years ago) triggered a second phase, "verbal science," in which storytelling, myth and cosmological explanations appeared, followed by the emergence of externalized representations (about 30,000 years ago--think cave paintings). These depictions signaled the beginning of a phase of applied science in which units of measurement, rudimentary mathematical operations, archaic forms of astronomy and the like were developed, culminating in the engineering achievements of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. The final stage, that of "pure science," then emerged with the ancient Greeks (around 2,600 years ago), opening the door to science as we think of it today."
Tweney wonders whether Feist's definition of Scientific work is not too broad but he highly endorses the book as a rich and comprehensive pioneering study.
As our world is more and more dominated in 'truth- seeking ' by scientific exploration it seems to me that the study in depth of the 'psychology of Science' is an almost inevitable development, one which
this present work advances.
This is a work which not simply scientific researchers, but general readers with interest in Science will probably wish to read.

This is an excellent book of color photographic images........1996-05-30
John Ward is an excellent fine art photographer who works
in both black and white and color. Here, John Ward has
created a beautiful book of color images on a subject close
to his heart: the colorado landscape. While some of the
images are relatively standard scenics, many show Ward's
eye for fine composition. Some exceptional images are
here, images in which Ward has made wonderful use of the
light "of the moment". This is a very nice book, one
collectors of fine color images will want to own.
