examples from t.v. shows I grew up watching so
maybe a little dated but still a funny book with
a message for girls and even older women about the
need to use humor and comedy in our lives so that we
can be seen as real human beings and also as people who
manage to have a really good time, and with a message for
females who need to have encouragemnent to take themselves--

I read this book a couple of years ago and liked it but I just read it again because I am going through a bad time (divorce, hate my job, getting fed up with y teenage kids) and it cheered me up like taking a piece of cake from a dessert cart when somebody else is paying.Highly recommended.

Fantastic study of women's humor.......2005-04-02

I read this book after hearing the author speak at a local college. She was wonderful! This book totally met my expectations. It's not a collection of jokes, but it is uplifting. Regina Barreca also makes excellent points about the dynamics of power between men and women, in addition to how humor can either confirm or alter these dynamics. I would recommend this to anyone interested in feminism and/or humor.

Enough stories here to prove the point that women are funnier than men, esp. if you give them a chance to tell their own stories the way they like to--don't cut them off, don't tell them you can imagine where it's going--just listen and love it! Very funny stuff on every page

THE classic book on humor and women.......2005-02-06

I was assigned this book in a class a couple years ago, and I have kept read it every couple of years to give me a boost and to remind me of what a powerful force humor can be. The examples are terrific and actually useful. The writing can be appreciated by a reader from high school age through assisted-living age...it is not a book just for a small group but for everybody. For women who like to laugh this book comes close to being perfect. The jokes about sex are worth the price!

Excellent with adaptions.......2005-03-14

This is an excellent play that explores the true grit behind being a youth in America. Touching on some of the things that effect teens today, Bogosian brought to life the true picture of the beatnik degenerate youth of today. A vivid picture of suburbian teenagers struggling with life. It was almost as if you'd taken a piece of my youth and written a screenplay surrounding it. My only negative is the word choice. Bogosian portrays the truth behind teenagers in America today, but overly typifies their language. The slang Bogosian uses wavears from accurate to grossly inaccurate. Overall high remarks for Bogosian.

i prefer bogosian's monologues to his plays. suburbia was good, but i preferred talk radio. a quick enjoyable read. if you are only going to read one of his books read "pounding nails into the floor with my forehead"

If you liked the movie..........2002-02-25

...you have to read the book! SubUrbia is one of my favorite movies, and I thought I'd read it also. There are several parts in the book that didn't make it to the movie. Also, I finished it in two sittings, so it's not very time consuming.

Gen. X's dramatic voice........2002-01-29

This is one of the most powerful plays I've read (and performed in). Eric Bogosian has captured Gen. X and raised his middle finger to all those who question us. Tragic and beautiful! Skip the movie though. It didn't come close to the play.

Incomplete.......2004-04-29

This sourcebook is designed to help you build a campaign along the lines of the pulps of the 30's and 40's. It gives a lot of history for the period and a few character types, but I found it to be incomplete. It doesn't give enough information for running a game. For example, if you want to run an Indiana Jones type game, you'll need to buy the WWII sourcebook for information about Nazis. If you want to do the Mummy, you'll need to buy the Egypt sourcebook for information on mummies and pyramids. If you want to steal jewels in an ancient Aztec temple, you have to buy the Aztec book. The list goes on and on. If you have a good idea of what kind of story you would like to play, it would be better to get the sourcebook directly related to that story. If you feel like playing a pulp-style game, but you don't have any story ideas, then this book may help you think of a few.

An Era Revealed.......2002-07-30

GURPS Cliffhangers, like almost all GURPS books, is a gamemaster's delight. The book gathers handily in one place almost all the information you will want on the history and background of the 1920's - 1940's in one place. It not only covers the events and the background information for North America, but for almost all of the world. The layout is clean and well organized, and GURPS-specific rules are, as with all GURPS sourcebooks, confined to one chapter. This means that the book is easily usable as a source for GM's running campaignes set in the Cliffhanger era using different rulesystems. Several pages at the end are reserved for a very thorough bibliography of othe sources - not just books, but comics, films, and other games. If you're looking at running a cliffhanger/pulp style game, you can't do wrong by using GURPS Cliffhangers as a starting point.

Covers all Areas of Software Project Management.......2006-12-25

Great for getting a general idea of the different aspects involved in Software PM, which is very different from general project management. Not many books exist that are as focused as this one on the management of the SDLC. However, this book is merely an introduction to each step and you will need additional references for a deeper understanding of any of the topics discussed in this book.

A good reference.......2001-11-14

I bought the "Complete Idiot's Guide to Project Management" first, then found this title on the shelves. So I bought The Dummies book and gave The Idiot's book away.

The Dummies book is a good reference for people dabbling in project management. It is well structured, well laid-out, and well written. At the same time it cuts the (...)found in so many heavy-duty management books.

Particularly useful are the templates found all through the book - and the CD with digital copies of them all. I have introduced many of these templates into my workplace, with slight modifications.

Negatives? The absence of UML and Object Oriented development processes.

CD full of PM Forms/Document Templates Never Seen Before !.......2000-11-22

I've just wrapped up reading "Software Project Management for Dummies" book and would like to start by saying thank you. There are several Software PM books out there though it seems that the majority focus on a highly technical perspective or on basic communication tactics. I am to interview Monday for a Software PM position (am currently an Internet PM) and your book has helped me address the differences between the two.

I came across the book after combing through nearly 15 software pm books. I despise the title "for dummies" and had not picked it up until I was frustrated with the current offerings. As mentioned, they primarily dealt with highly technical software processes or people skills. Hardly any even mentioned a scope document! The CD has proven to be an enormous resource for myself. Those are the forms/documents needed for monitoring and progression of projects that I have not seen anywhere.

Thanks for the book and any tips that may follow.

Okay for an outline, but not a bible to live by.......2000-11-13

I have a big gripe with Dummies books. They never seem to give you exactly what you need. Sure, the table of contents seems thorough, but once you start reading, it feels like you're missing a lot.

This book is no different. Although the included CD comes with some useful templates, the book's content reflects mostly non-standard practices of the author. I was quite alarmed in how little it discusses UML and Object Oriented development. These are the standards of today's projects, and the author seems to provide little attention to how important it is to adhere to standards in projects.

One of the biggest reasons why projects fail if due to a lack of standards involved in the project lifecycle. I recommend this book to give you a basic understanding of what's involved in project management, but I suggest following up with a book that adheres to strict standards. Standards make you marketable when it comes to changing jobs or getting projects approved. The methodology in this book is purely the method of the author.

Super reference.......2000-08-09

The book is a very good reference for beginners. I am a professional educator with Webster University and teach a graduate level course in software project management. I have had approximately 30 years experience with project management in general and 10 years experience with software project management. The material on the enclosed CD-ROM is excellent for beginners to use to get acquainted with the tools of the trade.

History made easy and fun, thats what this book is all about. I hated history when I was in school because the textbooks were boring. Now this book is something completely different. For every month of each year since the beginning of the century it has the highlights of the important events that happened that time. It is like reading an article in the newspaper, giving you the feeling of the era and also providing great pictures. This chronicle is all about pictures. Its structure has a feeling of a magazine or a newspaper.

The whole idea is that you get all the important events of the 20th century in an enjoyable fashion. It covers all aspects of the history like scientific breakthroughs, artistic movements, wars, politics, from all around the world but with a particular emphasis in the US history ( I have also read the Greek version which gives more emphasis in Greek history).

The book is huge and it is more like an encyclopedia rather than a history book. I like to read it before I go to bed and I doubt that any reader will be able to go from cover to cover singlehandedly. It will really strenghten your skills in world history and because of the informal way of covering the events (more like a reporters point of view rather than a professor of history) you will be able to remember a lot after you have read the book. I enjoyed particularly the coverage of the WWII, it is breathtaking, its like reliving the whole thing. I can only imagine the poor people reading in the newspapers of the era the advancement of Hitlers troop across Europe and then the break of war and the losses and the great battles and..... I can go forever.

This book is also a great option for a gift. Believe me the people that you are going to give this book will really appreciate it and will rember you for a long time.

Facinating History.......2000-04-09

The use of actual newspaper articles in their original format showed the style of the day as well a presenting the news of the day. Photographs and even some contemporary ads are interesting. Reviewed by two teachers, one eleementary and one high school.

Too often, Lawrence argues, profiles of Asian American experience focus exclusively on immigrants from East Asia, to the exclusion of South Asian and West Asian voices. New Faiths, Old Fears seeks to make all Asians equally important and to break free of traditional geographic markers, most reflecting nineteenth-century imperial values, that artificially divide the people of the "Middle East" from the rest of Asia, with whom they share certain religious and cultural ties. This book is very user friendly. It takes a perplexing subject matter and puts it in very non-intimidating context. It also has the funtionality of a complex technical manual. Worth it's weight in gold...
