This book was a complete waste of paper, ink and money. I don't think the author even had to do any research. These quotes are all so common as to have long ago entered the general lexicon. There is nothing new in here. Don't bother.

This is a fascinating series of interviews that appeared in "The Realist" with individuals that inflenced the American scene starting in the 1950s. One senses that neither Paul Krassner nor those being interviwed pulled any punches thereby allowing the reader to enter the mind set of the interviewees.

excellent strategy for a flawed game.......2001-10-26

As usual Sybex has put out a fine game guide.If only the game lived up to it's potential.I was disappointed the unrealistic graphics after playing mech 3 which was to my eyes on a great path towards that goal. Mech 4 is a step backward.With this guide you can't lose a mission,but that may be because the game is too easy.What do you think?

Solid book with good info for beginners and advanced players.......2001-07-08

I found this MechWarrior 4 book pretty solid. I was a novice to MechWarrior 4 games and the guide helped hone some of the skills I needed to survive the campaign game. Decent mech and weapon info and fairly comprehensive walkthroughs. Would have appreciated more online play discussion but still a useful book for all types of players.

Of little use at best........2001-06-21

As aforementioned, the mech and weapons stats are already in the game manual and in the game. So nothing new there. The supposedly "detailed" mech descriptions and evaluations really don't tell ya anything you didn't already know.. Ie going toe-to-toe with a big mech in a little mech isn't smart, or that one particular mech which is nothing but missle racks should be used for standoff missle combat--"gasp" how scandalous. The single player mission walkthroughs are a joke, though they are helpful in warning you that entering area x is going to trigger hordes of scripted enemys to descend on you. As for the books advice on how to beat those hordes...well, most of it is idiotic at best.

Basically, if you are desperate need of someone else to provide common sense while you play this game then this book is for you. For the other 99% of the ppl who buy this game its totally redundant.

Of no value to online players........2001-03-07

I bought this book looking for tips and hints for the online multiplayer battles, having already finished the regular game a couple of times.

It really offers nothing in terms of strategy that anybody with basic gaming experience wouldn't already know.

The specs that it offers are already in the manuals and on the web, so no real value there. A large part of the book talks about each mech, but says little of importantance. Most of the information is already in the manual or in the game itself except for some minor editorials on recomended loadout changes.

This is one of the best computer games out that I've played. Lots of action and some exciting moments. Got the strategy guide and it's pretty good as well. Full mission walkthroughs with some hidden tips that I didn't discover the first time through. All in all, a lot of fun.

It's difficult to keep up with all the changes,impact, and new tools that Netweaver technology is requiring for configuring and maintaining the environments. I think that this book has merit in that it stick with some of the aspects and tasks that have not changed as much, and gives an update to some of the older information. For the $$ it is a good book.

Great Overview Without Getting Bogged in Details.......2006-01-20

One of my long standing complaints about computer software books is that they so often eliminate the first forty pages or so that explain just what this software is and what is supposed to do. This book (at 606 pages it's a lot more than forty pages) is essentially the front end description that explains what SAP ERP is and what it si supposed to do.

The subtitle of the book is 'Essential Skills for SAP Technical Consultants.' It appears to be aimed at the individual who is trying to decide what SAP can do for them. It's much less concerned with the detail of how to do it.

I found this to be of great help, as SAP is a huge software system. It has perhaps a thousand components (does anyone really know) from various vendors that can be tied together to handle most ERP problems. If you're going to use SAP, just which of all these components are you going to pull together to solve your particular set of problems.

After you know what you're trying to do, then there are other books and manuals that will give you the details about how to do it. So if at this point you are wondering just what is the difference between SAP R/3, and mySAP.com, and SAP Web Application Server, and SAP NetWeaver, this is the place to start. All in all, it's good to see such a book. I hope this is a trend getting started and that we can see other books coming on other big software packages that's more aimed at what can be done.

What happened in the new edition?.......2006-01-18

This edition appears to be about 1/3 the size of previous editions; and refers to a fairly old version of SAP... even though this was released in Dec 2005.
There is a great many things missing here. SPAM... I guess you do not need that any more.
Perhaps the publishers wanted a book for managers.

Anyway, if you are considering this, get the 2nd edition... or buy one of the many that are used, as I expect there will be many BASIS admins selling this back the day after they purchase it.
Sorry... I was hoping for an updated version of Edition 2.

Poor Book, barely skims the surface.......2004-12-29

This book provides no real usable knowledge about SAP. There is absolutely no information on some areas, such as CATT's. And the areas that have some meat have only bologna.

Engrossing and Thought-Provoking.......2001-10-30

Angold's is a wonderful and wonderfully readable analysis of two periods of Byzantine history: the fall of the Macedonian regime (1025-1081), and the rise and fall of the Comnenian regime (1081-1204). His explanation of the former goes well beyond the conventional story of incompetent emperors and courtly intrigue, bringing to the foreground the political, social, and intellectual changes of that time and the regime's attempts to cope with them. His portrait of Psellus is particularly illuminating. The analysis of how Alexius Comnenus adapted the government to meet these challenges is also penetrating. Only in the final part of the book is these a loss of focus (as indeed there was in the empire itself). Not a book for beginners, but useful for anyone who wants to look deeper at a fascinating period of history.

I was disappointed.......2001-07-26

As a Byzantine history buff, I bought this book when it first came out, and was disappointed, though it's hard to say precisely why. It wasn't written, for my taste, in a particularly engaging style. (For point of comparison, I love Treadgold's style). Or perhaps it's just that is a time in the history of Byzantium when everyone appears to be pursuing their individual interests to the detriment of the state as a whole, and this simply made for a depressing read. In any case, I found myself skipping through the book to find those portions that interested me. On the other hand, since this is the only book I know of that covers this period in detail, I will keep the book in my collection.

An excellent account of an exciting period.......1997-11-19

Michael has brought his vast knowledge of the subject to bear in a lucid and very readable account of one of the most fascinating periods of this great civilisation. A joy.
