Preacher Kids.......2006-10-17

This is a hilarious, though a little unprofessionally written book sharing (sometimes exaggerated) anecdotes from the lives of two preacher's kids.

Warning: contains many Biblical and church references. If you didn't grow up in church, you probably won't appreciate a lot of this humor! =)

This is a simple and fun book to read. It is a great book for Preacher's Kids or anyone who grew up in the church. The Hafer brothers use personal stories along with some 'preacher licence' to tell some humorious antedotes.

Laughter from the Vestibule........2002-01-02

This book was a delight to read. It's fairly easy to read (except for chapters such as 'Searching for "Mr. Right"' when really big theological words are used). The Hafer brothers are funny, even though it seems that sometimes they are trying too hard. Still, the book provides a lot of laughs and there are a few serious messages sprinkled throughout. A fun book that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

This is the funniest book I have ever read. I even read parts of it outloud to other people. Todd and Jedd can go ahead and shamelessly plug away. Some of us are waiting for Snickers II!

Wow! A Christian humor book that is truly funny! The Hafer Brothers are the Christian Marketplaces answer to the Smother's Brothers . . . they are truly funny! Each story is filled with things that anyone who has attended church their whole childhood can relate to! From getting in trouble to funny things that happen during church! Todd and Jedd do a great tribute to their upbringing . . .what a way to grow up! Snickers makes you feel like you are right there with them. This book would make a great gift for a minister, or anyone really who has grown up in the church! I will look forward to their next book!

I was truly impressed with this book. It has satire, great story-telling, hilarious cartoons, and even a serious message here and there.

"Snickers" offers a lot of variety and can be enjoyed more than once. I highly recommend it!

surprisingly funny, for Christians........1999-07-06

Say "Christian" and "funny" isn't the first thing to spring to mind, but this book fights the stereotypes. These irreverent Reverend's kids have exposed a side of "the cloth" that we haven't seen before; and much to this reader's amusement. We all need a laugh, and this book is guaranteed to deliver (in the non-spiritual sense of the word).

One of the Best Biographies Of All Time.......2003-06-13

This very detailed and descriptive analysis of Barbra Streisand's career by Alison J. Waldman. She examines almost every detail and aspect of Barbra's very large and extensive career. The part I enjoyed most was the music section where she describes the preparation of and commercial action of each of Barbra's CDs. It is nice to see how stars choose what songs and how all the songs work together. No less fascinating is the Movie section which is very comprehensive. Waldman even crafts a Scale rating the movies' many factors such as Longtime Durability and Success. For the private life, there is some spilling of the beans here and for projects Barbra could have participated in, one can imagine. The book also has a section that chronicles the top rumors of Streisand that are either proven or disproven. One can tell that the author is a fan of Streiand as she details many elements in a style and manner that is highly uncontestable among other biographers of not only Streisand but others as well. Also, the Bette Midler Scrapbook also by Waldman is a good read as well.

Everything You Always Wanted To Know ...........2002-07-19

Allison Waldman's book is great for any Streisand fan. It is exhaustingly researched and as idiosyncratic as anything Barbra would produce.

The picture choices are wonderful - no run-of-the-mill API photographs here. Lots of rare and candid shots.

Allison does a particularly great job on the unreleased stuff (movies, songs).

Not enough updates.......2001-12-07

If you already own the original Scrapbook (which is a great read, no arguing there), don't bother buying this "revised and updated" version. The only "revised and updated" things in the book are a new chapter added to the end of the book that summarizes her projects over the past few years and a new cover . The first chapter of the book still states she is single...it has not been updated to reflect her marriage to James Brolin. Also, her discography in the book has not been updated to include her past several albums. This is just a few examples of the examples why this "updated" version is disapointing and not needed in your book shelf. Wait for a real updated version, I have no doubt that the author will update it again, as it seems to be a great and cheap way to earn extra money.

This is THE definitive book about Barbra Streisand, no question about it. It has gorgeous pictures and a lot of information, and it is simply a joy to read. (...)

Wildspace....You make my heart race!.......2000-05-06

The wildspace adventure is an excellent introduction to the Spelljammer game system.

The adventure starts in any town in the adventurers campaign world and hooks the players straight away with a mission to save the entire world (literally). From this point on the players are whisked off into wildspace and introduced to a whole knew way of playing AD&D.

The adventure leads the players into the largest and most spectacular dungeon ever created (although the campaign will be greatly benefitted if the Dungeon Master spends alot of time fleshing out the various 'rooms' into mini adventures).

The main protagonist is a suitably impressive character, who also provides an excellent twist to the plot, and the final confrontation will make your players sweat with anticipation.

Wildspace is a superb way to 'suck and see' Spelljammer...if the players don't want to continue careening around the spheres you can easily deposit them back on their home world. But if your players are anything like mine then you will be in for a long space-ride.

To summarise then, Wildspace could be one of the most challenging and certainly the most memorable adventure your players will have for years to come. The adventure will only acheive it's true potential, however, if the DM is prepared to spend a fair amount of time fleshing out the encounters and adding subplots of his or her own.

A truely cosmic adventure!

This exceptionally useful text offers Scott Myers's expertise in C++ class design and programming tips. The second edition incorporates recent advances to C++ included in the ISO standard, including namespaces and built-in template classes, and is required reading for any working C++ developer.

The book opens with some hints for porting code from C to C++ and then moves on to the proper use of the new and delete operators in C++ for more robust memory management. The text then proceeds to class design, including the proper use of constructors, destructors, and overloaded operator functions for assignment within classes. (These guidelines ensure that you will create custom C++ classes that are fully functional data types, which can be copied and assigned just like built-in C++ classes.)

The author also provides a handful of suggestions for general class design, including strategies for using different types of inheritance and encapsulation. Never doctrinaire and always intelligent, these guidelines can make your C++ classes more robust and easier to maintain. --Richard Dragan

This book really helps you become a sharper c++ class designer. Tips are brief and yet very well explained. I read the book from A to Z in a single day!.

Very didactic.......2007-08-23

This is the type of book I recommend to everyone with little experience in C++ and willing to become a better and more experienced coder.

The author talks about several items which are useful for dealing with class hierarchies, design, good coding practices and solution to usual problems (and also shows some problems dont have a simple solution).

The way he writes makes it very easy for every coder to understand even for non native english readers. Sometimes you feel like going to the PC to implement what hes talking about and see the magic of C++ come alive.

Great book.

not all the suggestions in the book are sound.......2007-03-15

I would consider this book somewhat useful, but readers should treat the suggestions in the book judiciously. Some of the suggestions are too trivial for advanced programmers. For example, "prefer const and inline
to #define". Every C++ programmer knows this! And this is also exactly the same advice clearly stated in Stroustrup's book "the C++ programming language". I think that the author is highly unprofessional by not citing Stroustrup who gave the same advice much earlier in the classic book that every C++ programmer knows.

Some suggestions in the book are not even correct. For example, the suggestion "never redefine an inherited nonvirtual function". This suggestion is incorrect. The author argues that the virtual functions should be defined. However, it does not need to. In some cases, redefine an inherited nonvirtual function is necessary, efficient, and the right way. For example, in the following case:

class A{ public void print() {cout < <"A print";};}
class B: public A { public void print() {cout < <"B print";};}
class C: public B { public void print() {cout < <"C print";};}

A a; B b; C c;
a.print(); b.print(); c.print();

In this case, the correct functions are called. More importantly, it does not need the virtual function and the dynamic binding to do that. So it is much more effecient that virtual functions. And efficiency is the main advantage of C++.

Cleary, if redefine the nonvirtual function is a bad practice, the C++ standard would have already banned it.

This case applies to the scenario that the compiler knows the exact type in compile time. If you use pointers or reference, like

A *a=new A(); B *b=new B(); C *c= new C();
Then only the "A print" would be the result of the output.

the book does more damage than good.......2007-02-24

1)
the book doesn't know about the basic rule for writing exception safe code,
which is: DO only a single allocation inside a constructor-body and to the matching deallocation inside the matching destructor-body. Throw if allocation fails. Then chain such classes into base-class or member-class relationships. You wont have to deal with partially constructed objects, since the compiler is generating all the code for you.

2)
there is a glaring error on page 138. The order of construction/destruction is wrong. The correct order is:

bm1::constructor()
bm2::constructor()
Base::Base()
dm1::constructor()
dm2::constructor()
dm3::constructor()
Derived::Derived()

This mistake alone may have caused plenty of programmers to design their classes in a wrong way.

If you program in C++ this is a must read........2007-02-23

Excellent practices for programming in C++. For all levels of programmers. Not only has it been good for my programming, I require that every programmer that works for me read it as well.

This first edition is a must have for the professional Questioned Document Examner. Excellent details in pen, ink, paper, indented writing Forensice Document Examination. Some methods of ink and pen identification qre not even covered in most Forensic Questioned Document Books, Not in the detail covered here. How do you know if an envelope has been steamed opened and reglued? What methods of page substitution are not covered in other tests? How can you quickly identify, beyond watermarks, if a page may not be consistent with others in a corporate agreement? Mr Ellen is truly a master Forensic Document Examiner. In my opinion he is the modern day version of Albert Osborn. My Osborn's Questioned Documents was the first complete book on Questioned Document Examination. It is dated now but Mr. Ellen's book covers it all. A great book. A must have for the 21st century.

The 1st and 2nd editon should not be confused with the 3rd edition. The 1st and 2nd edition give great technical detail as to methodology in use of Forensic Equipment, VSC-1, ESDA, IR/UV, ink and paper analysis. The 3rd edition answers methodology in visual examination as to methods of construction,disquised writing, simulations,significance of similarities and differences. The 3rd edition is more general than the previous editions but an excellent resource for the Forensic Questioned Document Examiner in training and as a refresher for the seasoned Forensic Questioned Document Examiner. It is also a must have for the Forensic Questioned Document Examiner Library.
