Customer Reviews:
A great storyline!!!.......2002-04-14
Magical pokemon Journey (Aka Pipipi Adventure) is the best Poke-comic ever!!!
Hazel, a ditzy-lovesick kinda gal, is in love with the handsome skilled Pokemon Trainer Almond... He would actually BE skilled if Hazel would let him catch any Pokemon.
So basically Almond hates Hazel for not letting him catch any Poke's.
But then Grandpa, an old man, tells Hazel that if she catches Pokemon for him he'll prepare a Love Potion for Almond.
So Hazel tries to catch Pokemon (Although she didn't catch many) to win the Love Potion and Almond's heart! But many other characters soon appear making Hazel's quest easier/harder than ever! HILARIOUS COMIC!!!!!!!! READ IT EVERYONE!!
More Love Rivals! More Fun!!.......2002-01-05
In this volume, Almond is put through a test from Squirtle's sisters, so he can keep being friends with him. At the end, Almond has to be hospitalized, which leads us to the next story. While he's in the hospital, Hazel goes to buy flowers for him from her friend's brother's flower shop. He gets a crush on Hazel, which may lead to a lot of trouble later! And Yumi Tsukirino-sensei has a really cute picture of Almond with his hair down at the end. ^_^ Then, since Pistachio's Bulbasaur is really jealous about his crush on Hazel, she tries to get a love potion from Grandpa. And then, a Pidgeot is trying too hard to impress his crush. When will he learn what she really wants? Um... I can't really remember the other two stories... so I'll just go onto the bonus stories. ^^,
In one of them, the characters are all playing hide-and-seek, but Peanut, Pikachu, and Clefairy get lost! How will they get out, and how will they escape the monster that is going to eat them?! In the other bonus story, the Pokemon get told a scary ghost story, and relive it, sort of.
As for this volume's bonus bonuses, there's a Pokemon file, a small story with Walnut, and two very short anime crossover-thingies. One has that adorable Tracey in it. ^_^ There's also an itsy-bitsy section with Yumi Tsukirino-sensei herself in it. :)
This is a great volume in a great manga. I'm sure anyone who loves Pokemon, cute things, and lots of love triangles will love this. ^____^
Book Description
In this sixth entry in the series, Eevee has a major crush on another Eevee, but the target of its affection is way too shy to introduce itself. Can Hazel and Coconut make love bloom between the two Eevee? Meanwhile, Ditto is good at mimicking Pokemon, but can it impersonate a human? Elsewhere, Hazel finds an egg floating down the river and takes it upon herself to care for it. Will this egg hatch or become a tasty breakfast for the Pokemon?

Book Description
The Unspoken-and Previously Unrecorded- Rules That Govern Men's Social Behavior Garland Green, Bill Meyers, and Dan Hartshorn Remember The Rules' Well, these ain't them. These are GuyRules, the unspoken-and until now unrecorded-rules that govern men's lives. For generations, men have jealously guarded these secrets, leaving women struggling to figure out what the heck was going on. Now the secret is out. GuyRules is based on a wildly popular Web site started two years ago by the authors, who contributed the first 110 rules. They then encouraged other guys to submit their own rules (provided they could pass a "Guy Test," included in the book), and things took off. The book is divided into chapters covering:* Buddies: "A Guy must compete for the biggest scar and most painful story. The Guy with the ugliest scar and the most grotesque story will win the Scar-Off Olympics."* Ego: "Guys are never lost and they never need a map. They've just chosen to take an alternate route at this particular juncture."* Hygiene: "One true measure of Guydom is how well a Guy can burp. Amongst Guys the belch is a true work of art. "While GuyRules is funny, it is also true. For the first time in history, guys from around the world explain in their own words why they do the things they do. Every true Guy who reads GuyRules will recognize himself immediately, and women will instantly recognize the Guys they love-and love to hate.

Great Book written by a great Teacher and friend.......2000-05-13
I have just gotten my own copy of this book and would recommend that you do to. I read this before it was published and thought it was great. This book truly sums up all those unsaid rules with guys. A must for a guy that doesn't have a clue.
A great book by a great guy.......1999-11-25
This is an excellent book. And it ws written by a great guy, Gar Green. Mr. Green is my teacher. Ihave read the book (even before it was published) and I think it is a great book for guy's. The bok is so true...it tells things about us guys that we don't even relize without thinking about it. Well anyways I really recomend thiss book UY RULES!
Very Funny. So close to the truth any guy will see himself........1999-10-08
The great accomplish here is that this is a book of humor that makes you think about yourself and recognize things you may never have thought of before. Very funny and very enlightening. Although I'm a LOT older than the authors, it rings true for my generation as well. I bought it at the suggestion of a friend. Now let me be your friend and give it my highest recommendation for your pleasure.
Why we do what we do, as told by a true "Guy"!.......1999-10-06
And you thought girls were complex! This is the manual that explains (tongue in cheek) why we act like we do as told from a "guys" point of view. Warning: This book is for entertainment puposes only! A "must have" for any coffee table.
Humor and Insight!.......1999-09-21
I have read books that profess to give insight on the male physique. This book is the first to really do it and do it with humor. I like being able to laugh at myself and in the same breath feel like someone has finally "said it." Way to go GuyRules!

Book Description
If you prefer a more streamlined alternative to the bloat and complexity of Microsoft "sport-utility" programs, AppleWorks 6 is the stealth office suite. Hugely popular in classrooms, colleges, and small offices, it's got word processing, graphics, database, web design, spreadsheet, and slide-show functions in a single, beautifully integrated application. Every year, AppleWorks arrives in the hands of four million Apple iMac and iBook buyers. There it sits on the hard drive, a masterpiece of smooth integration and clever interface design, accompanied by templates, art libraries, and fonts--and no printed instructions. AppleWorks 6: The Missing Manual is the book that should have been in the box. It covers:
-
What's new. The authors place special emphasis on easing the transition into the new AppleWorks 6 interface, its Internet hooks, the Starting Points window, and the new Presentation module.
-
Part by part coverage. The early chapters delve very deeply into the six core AppleWorks modules, including 85 pages on the word processor alone.
-
Power tools. Much of AppleWorks's power comes from its macros, templates, assistants, customizable Button bar, and web-based clip-art libraries.
-
Document exchange. AppleWorks 6 can no longer export Word and Excel files. But this book covers exchanging documents with other programs, versions, and platforms--and includes a 25% discount coupon for MacLink Plus, which restores the file-conversion feature.
-
Troubleshooting. Because this book isn't an Apple publication, the authors freely acknowledge the program's weaknesses--and offer workarounds. Witty and jargon-free, AppleWorks 6:The Missing Manual treats AppleWorks as the serious productivity tool it is. With over 250 illustrations, a 2,000-entry index, and a menu-by-menu explanation of every command, AppleWorks 6: The Missing Manual is as smoothly put together as AppleWorks itself.
Amazon.com
Too many writers of books about software let the software determine how they organize the material. If the File menu contains commands A, B, and C, the writers put A, B, and C in the same chapter, regardless of whether they're functionally similar. AppleWorks 6: The Missing Manual is organized more logically, tackling the functional units--including Internet integration, macro programming, and table creation, among others--in separate chapters. It's an approach that makes sense for AppleWorks, in which the spreadsheet module can be used to create tables for word processor documents and all the modules rely on a common graphics editor. For those who want to know what a particular menu command does, there's menu-by-menu documentation in an appendix.
You get the requisite instructions: explicit steps to follow if you want to transpose rows in a spreadsheet, for example, or export button graphics for use in Web pages. Other procedures, like making calculations that refer to cells in multiple spreadsheets, are explained in text. "Workaround Workshop" modules call attention to shortcomings in AppleWorks (such as its two-palette limit when you're working with colors) and explain how to get around them (use a custom palette). Throughout, the instructions are engaging and fun to read. --David Wall
Topics covered: AppleWorks 6, the multipurpose office-productivity suite for Mac OS; the suite's capabilities, comprehensively--including word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, databases, and presentations; how to create documents and databases from scratch, as well as from existing materials.
Customer Reviews:
The Missing Manual / AppleWorks 6 by Jim Elferdink.......2007-03-09
I am a user of all the Missing Manuals. I would not be without them. This one is well laid out, is easily understood and very helpful. It is always nice to have directions in print. Unfortunately in today's world, the producers of the software do not understand such a concept. That is why we are lucky to have folks like Jim Elferdink to take care of us.
You Have Got To Be Kidding?.......2006-04-14
As someone who bought his first computer in 1986 it's been a long strange trip from there to here. And things have not exactly been gettin better all the time!
QUE published the first computer manual I ever bought. It cost $29.95, contained over 1,000 pages and covered every conceivable aspect of WordPerfect 5.0. It wasn't always easy to understand (Where do they get the people who write these books? And how many IQ tests are they required to fail to prove themselves worthy of computer manual authorship?) But if you were patient and willing to put in the time you could usually find an answer to your question.
That happy sort of situation ceased to exist some years ago when computer programs began to become as bloated as a dead cow in fly time and things only got worse with the publication of Apple Works 6 the Missing Manual!
"If Only it were missing!" I've found myself thinking to myself time after time after time as I have struggled futilely to find the simplest answer to the simplest question with no luck whatever.
Today, for instance, I crafted a letter to an old friend that was quite long. Though I usually am satisfied with one sided printing, this opus was soooo long that two sided printing was more than clearly called for. Soooo, fear rising like the Red Sea in my throat I grit my teeth and plunged headfirst into yet another frustratingly complex search for the infamous "simple answer" to the question:
"How do you print on both sides of the page?"
First, I turned to the almost nonexistent index in hopes that some mention might be made there of printing. Although printing problems are legendary in the world of computing there was a mere 10 items listed under the heading of Printing in the index. And, you guessed it, none of them seemed to point in the direction of two-sided printing.
Oh, I gave it a try. In fact I flipped through page after page of indexed references, but I came up empty handed.
So next, off to the Table of Contents. Where, under Advanced Word Processing I found - can you believe this - not a single mention of printing, let alone two-sided printing.
I would continue but I fear that what tottering remains of sanity I still manage to cling to with desperation might not survive the test so I will bring this rambling and time wasting rant to a close with three suggestions for O'Reilly Publishing:
1) Burn this book before the word gets out that you published it. Failure to do so might mark the beginning of the end for your company.
2) Raise the failing score of the IQ exam your computer manual authors must fail to get the job by at least 60 points! Perhaps then the candidates will at least have to be able to read before being allowed to write.
3) See what you can do to arrange a long relaxing trip to some Gulag for Elferdink and Reynolds. Believe me, they need a vacation and so do WE!
The Missing Manual.......2005-08-30
Just Switched from MSFT. Not as good as Apple Works For Dummies.
The Missing Macros.......2005-03-08
Page 323-327 tells you how to use the macros in AppleWorks 6. It says to look under FILE and MACROS. If they're there I couldn't find them.
Truly "The book that should have been in the box".......2005-02-05
I have used Appleworks since it was Clarisworks 4, then Appleworks 5, and now 6. I love this program with it's ability to drag and drop between the Word Processing, Database, Spreadsheet, Graphics, Drawing and Painting. I create all of my fliers, newsletters, etc. with it. You can create slide shows and presentations, too.
This is a great book for anyone who already uses Appleworks, or would like to learn. It truly is "The book that should have been in the box" as the subtitle indicates. It is full of step by step instructions for understanding each part of the application. It has plenty of graphics to show you what it should look like and what your menu choices are.
The layout is easy to read cover to cover, or to skim for tips and tricks. The index and table of contents make it easy to find what you're looking for.
I recommend this book for beginners or veteran Appleworks users. From O'Reilly Books, it is one of the Missing Manual Series which you can always count on to be helpful.
Book Description
No longer is it 'History for it's own sake'.
- Challenges conventions of modern history.
- Provides examples from antiquity to present.
- Emphasizes the future moral role for history.
Why Bother With History? argues for an increasingly important role for a revitalized historical study. Examining the motivations of past historians, the author rejects the ancient aspiration to a 'history for its own sake' and argues that historians' importance lies in their own adoption of a moral standpoint, from which a story of the past can be told, that facilitates the attainment of a future we desire. Why Bother With History? challenges the conventions of modern history and will prompt and discussions of contemporary concerns while emphasizing the future moral role for history. Inevitably controversial, in that it challenges many of the assumptions of modernist history, Beverly Southgate draws in on psychology and literature, as well as history, in stating her case.
Book Description
Discrete-valued time series are common in practice, but methods for their analysis are not well-known. In recent years, methods have been developed which are specifically designed for the analysis of discrete-valued time series. Hidden Markov and Other Models for Discrete-Valued Time Series introduces a new, versatile, and computationally tractable class of models, the "hidden Markov" models. It presents a detailed account of these models, then applies them to data from a wide range of diverse subject areas, including medicine, climatology, and geophysics. This book will be invaluable to researchers and postgraduate and senior undergraduate students in statistics. Researchers and applied statisticians who analyze time series data in medicine, animal behavior, hydrology, and sociology will also find this information useful.
Customer Reviews:
This is fairly good book for applications.......2000-07-26
This book describes a variety of hidden Markov models and points out where they arise and how to estimate parameters of the model. It also points out where they arise in a natural manner and how the models can be used in applications. It is not supposed to be a mathematically rigorous treatment of the subject for which one should look elsewhere like the book by R.J.Elliott, L.Aggoun and J.B.Moore (1995): Hidden Markov Models: Estimation and Control. Springer-Verlag. It is easy to read. But it lacks depth to a certain extent and is not comprehensive enough to satisfy all types of needs.
