5 out of 5 stars The Good Old Days.......2007-05-07

This is a wonderful collection of comics from the 80's in the Dreadstar story arc. Good production value: high quality inking, lettering and coloring. This storyline brings together the Vanth Dreadstar of pre- and post-Milky Way destruction.

                    2 out of 5 stars Level 6+ Sphere Powers.......2000-04-06

Are the only reason I can think of anyone buying this Book. The Book describes extremely powerful Mages, (In a 2nd Ed format), and uses of spheres levels 6 and 7. These powers are kind of silly, (Forces 6 can used to destroy Planets), and then the book goes on to suggest ideas for Archmage campaigns. Ancient Vampires are listed as foes for a Cabal of Archmages, among a few others. There is another book - "Masters of the Art", or somesuch which has better material, but doesn't have the brief description of the Horizon Realm detailed in this book. Or the Level Six Sphere Powers.

3 out of 5 stars A good book, but not terribly useful.......2000-03-30

I initially purchased this book as an aid to an umbra-based Mage game I was running. The book gave me a few ideas, but ultimately I found it was less useful than most of the other Mage books I own.

The book is, as its title suggests, all about the history, geography, society, and politics of the Horizon Realm. It also contains a good deal of information regarding "recent" events. This information is a story unto itself and unfortunately dominates a good portion of the content. This is not to mention all the hanging questions it leaves regarding the realm itself and the Mage universe in general. My curiosity was piqued in that regard, but still I found little that I was interested in working into my games.

Horizon's entire history is detailed here. It's an interesting read, but of dubious value. The biographical information on the archmages was admittedly well-written and interesting (if a little predictable), but I personally never use someone else's characters so it was also of little use to me. This goes double for the story they slipped in between the informative bits. On the other hand, the information about the secret societies of Horizon Realm was just enough to spark ideas for entire chronicles. The geographic information was very thorough as well, including maps and detailed descriptions. Again, not something I would bother using but useful for some Storytellers.

Overall, this is just a typical setting book with a cool underlying story. Storytellers who like to know where every little thing is located and who every one of the big players is will probably find this book very helpful. Those who prefer to create the majority of their games from scratch, like myself, might not have much use for about half the content. A better resource for such people might be The Book of Worlds. Still, Horizon is, if nothing else, a fun read.

This book beats the others I've seen hands down. Not only does it explain exactly what the problems are; it also tells you how to go about fixing them, in detail, including code solutions in some places. Where there aren't solutions it presents very useful workarounds.

The W3C guidelines only take you so far. This book gets you to the next level, and helps you start thinking the right way so you can solve new problems that come up in a similar fashion.

Now, if someone would only write a book on making web sites *usable* for people with disabilities (not just accessible), we'd be laughing.

                        Book Description

There is much controversy over the number of wives attributed to the Prophet Mohammed: various claims range from four to nine or more. On one point, however, everyone agrees: Aishah was his favourite.

The story of this remarkable woman has been concealed or ignored for generations. She lived for several decades after the Prophet's death and was deeply involved in the turbulent political conflict that shaped the early Muslim nation. Certainly, Aishah did not conform to any proscription against women in Islamic public life.

Having extensively mined scholarly Arabic source material, Abbott nonetheless tells her story in a popular, narrative style. Aishah is not only a gripping tale, but also an attempt to recover part of the lost history of Muslim women who resisted the restrictions Islam sought to impose on them.

                        1 out of 5 stars unfortunately disgusting.......2001-08-28

An unfortunate and disgusting play on "research" -- inauthentic sources and second-hand guesses at best. Definitely a biased Orientalist book with biased and prejudiced information. Books and information by author Karen Armstrong are much less biased and more honestly developed.

2 out of 5 stars Unnecessarily Insensitive Writer.......2000-01-14

Nabia Abbott's lack of respect and insentivity to Islam and its leaders is very rude and unpardonable. The introduction and early chapters put the reader off, especially Muslims, as it un-necessarily catagorizes and opinionizes the Prophet's actions, motives and the Quran's contents. It is unfortunate to read a well researched book with such slanting views. Her account of Muslim history seems balanced and unbiased from a sectarian point of view, though her own prejudices and preferences, as customary in her times, of an orientalist are evident throughout when she comments on individual actions and events. The book carries many themes and agendas of the writer in itself. At times, it reads like a history book, though on occasions, it has a flavour of a sociological commentary of the period and at times, a critical review of Islamic Injunctions and practices. It is unfortunate that a book that could have been a valuable historical reference has lost its impact due to the biases and bigotory of the writer towards a religion that has over a billion following on earth.

                          Book Description

Childbirth in Renaissance Italy was encouraged, celebrated, and commemorated with a wide range of objects, from wooden bowls and maiolica wares to paintings, sculpture, clothing, and food. This groundbreaking book examines for the first time these highly significant objects and what they meant to the individuals and society that created, purchased, and bestowed them.

1 out of 5 stars Crazed Fanatics Unite!.......2003-10-27

Typical of the pro-free energy crowd: Vague descriptions, no proof whatsoever, conspiracy theories, new vocabulary terms leaning on other new vocabulary terms. Most assuredly we all would love for free-energy to be real so that we may stop polluting the earth. However, this book simply puts another nail into the coffin. An unorganized jumble of reprints of reprints of "reports" and fuzzy pictures. Amazing that such garbage even gets printed, let alone gets sold. I know better now. Save your money unless: 1) you are a fanatic or 2) you like to collect this kind of nonsense to prove the foolishness of man.

1 out of 5 stars Let the buyer beware.......2001-06-04

The Free-Energy Device Handbook is less a handbook for the would be inventor and more a collection of various ideas, patents and whatever else the author could use to fill this 'book.' Inside you will find some theory, historical oddities and many re-printed magazine articles. There are a few designs for devices included but don't expect any kind of instructions, I didn't see any. The cost of return shipping requires keeping this book, it was cheep but why spend more? My advice is this: keep looking for better references and use your own ideas, there aren't any in here!

5 out of 5 stars The Best Book on Free Energy.......1999-12-27

This is the best, and virtually only, book available on free energy motors. A great book on N-Machines, The Adams Pulse Generator, Magnetic, Ether, Gravity, and other motors, and their concepts, are not generally known in the mainstream media. This is the most thorough, and up-to-date compendium on this fascinating subject! This is a compilation with lots of patents, diagrams, and scientific papers. Such devices appear to be very feasible. This is the book!

1 out of 5 stars Geek Science for the Drooling True Believers.......1999-09-01

Geek science. The author is clueless of basic high school level physics. Its possible, although unlikely, that some 10 year old will one day explain the concept of the laws of thermodynamics to this guy. Perpetual motion machines are garden variety frauds, the only money they make is from the losers who line up to buy this particular brand of snake oil.

                              Makes decent kindling though.

                              Bon appetite!

4 out of 5 stars A "must read" for anyone researching free-energy devices!.......1999-01-24

While it isn't exactly a collection of detailed plans for free-energy devices, it does give some very detailed information towards their construction. Don't purchase it expecting to find a list of parts and assembly procedures, rather be prepared to have your awareness of such devices raised to a higher level. With the addition of some foresight, and creativeness, it might be possible to duplicate many of the devices described in this book. I am presently undertaking a model of the Adams Pulsed Electric Motor Generator,"described in some detail in the book". The PEMG might well be one of the most promising FE devices of our time.
