The Maestro is Wild..........2004-05-27
What more can be said of Jodorowsky that hasn't already been said by both fans and detractors? Love him or hate him, you can't stop reading until the final frame. It seems that his trials in the world of cinema have forced him into the comics medium and he isn't looking back. I should mention that in Bess, Jodorowsky has once again found a worthy foil realize his singular visions. 'Son' touches on a few themes that Jodo is no stranger to. Fans of 'El Topo' will no doubt spot these, but there's a truly dark, lean quality to this story that may shock even his long-time fans.

Book Description
A living testimony to the people and spirit of American Airlines. Extraordinary stories of everyday life as told by its current and former employees.
Customer Reviews:
How service counts in the airline business........2006-02-13
A nice collection of stories about how service counts in the airline business. American is the only legacy carrier not to go into bankruptacy and for people who wonder why, it is not leadership but the people providing customers with great care. Only when you care for your customer do you build a clientele who will buy your product. Other airlines failed to do this, but American has always done this.
The book is a series of stories related by employees of how they follow that strategy. At the end, there is a story of the CEO (Casey I think) and how the base put him on the wrong plane. Casey ended up in Chicago rather than Washington. The stories are simple, service and care for your customer and they will reward you with repeat business.
This was a very good book.......1999-03-22
I read the copy of this book that my father got from American- he is an employee. It was great to see put into words the many reasons why I have always loved American Airlines, and why I will continue to do so. This book recounts many stories from employees who talk about what makes American special- Not why American is better than anyone else, but what it is that sets them apart. This was really an excellent book for everyone to read. I found myself up for hours, wanting to read "just one more story."
This book was very interesting........1998-12-13
This book is what American Airlines is all about. My brother has worked for American Airlines for 25 years and he always goes out of his way to make sure each and every customer is treated First Class. It is employees like this that make American Airlines "Something Special in the Air". .
Great collection of employee accounts of working for AA.......1998-11-29
Intersting colloection of stories and everyday anecdotes of the routiney customer service issues to the letter from the passenger who lost her wedding ring on board an aircraft...only to be tracked down months later my mechanics at the maintenace hub in Tulsa after tearing up the floor panels. If you're interested in customer relations or employee morale, this is a great pick.

Psychotropedia covers hundreds of touchy and unorthodox topics. More importantly, it tells you exactly how to find out more for yourself.

Serendipity.......2004-04-21
This will expand your reading horizon by ten-fold. I couldn't read this many books in my lifetime. Russ Kick must be one of the best read people on the planet.
Not every section will be to everybodies taste but the breadth from politix to sex, religion to snuff films is amazing and covers a wide range of cultures and countries.
The reviews may sometimes seem just a touch judgemental, however their scope provides enough for you to make up your own mind on any subject.
The buying instructions and publishers info is invaluable, as with the feature pubilcation many are now out of print.
A book well worth the time to find a copy of.
For anyone interested Polyester Books in Fitzroy (Melb, Aust) may have one or two copies.

Book Description
An illustrated history of the yo-yo, plus a complete compendium of tricks, from "Rock the Cradle to "Shoot the Moon." Packaged, of course, with a spiffy, screw-apart yo-yo designed by yo-yo master Dale Oliver.
Customer Reviews:
This book is totally AWESOME book for yoyoers everywhere.......2000-07-14
I have read this book at least 15 times already, and it stillnever gets boring. Everytime that you read it, you learn somethingnew. Whether its a new trick or something about the yo-yos hisory. This book is a must have for yo-yo collectors and yoyoers everywhere!
Look for the First Printing.......2000-03-02
For some reason, useful history and at least one trick was cut out of this printing. The yo-yo included is a diluted version of the ProYo (the older wooden yos from previous printings were a joy!) and a disappointment. Looks pretty, though. For some reason, Cassidy isn't credited with writing this book, but a committee is. When there was nothing else, this was fine (well, the first edition was fine), but this is really disappointing. Look for a book by Stuart Crump or Ted Whitten instead!
Disapointing........1999-06-15
If you want tricks do not buy this book! I found myself in awe at the simplicity of the tricks in this book. You can find all these tricks in a normal trick book and much, much, more.
could have been better.......1999-06-05
This is a good book if you are five years old. Unfortunately, most people who take interest in yo-yos for more than five minutes are not. The history is interesting and the pictures are o.k. But when people open a yo-yo book, they look for one thing, tricks. This book is not big on tricks. Anyone with a little bit of sense can complete these tricks with ease. Two tricks in the book are a bit challenging, but then again, why would you buy a yo-yo book for two tricks? I am a bit surprized because I also own the Klutz magic book and I really found that book enjoyable. Klutz could have done better
Still passes the test of time........1999-06-01
A nice book of basic yo-yo tricks. This book has been around for a few years, which is a compliment to its fun presentation. The wood yo-yos that came attached to the original books now have some collectible value. Lucky Meisenheimer M.D. author of "Lucky's Collectors Guide to 20th Century Yo-Yos...History and Values"

Book Description
Provides a comprehensive tutorial to this popular 3D animation and modeling software popular not only in animation, cartoons, but television and computer games.
Customer Reviews:
great for beginners.......2006-07-04
With no experience in 3D modeling, this book helped me get started. It showed me the best way to use the tools in Lightwave as well as some concepts behind modeling\animating. Now I am modeling cars, places, people, and doing some light animation.
The author writes with a sense of humor and personality. Therefore, it's not boring to read. However, it can sometimes be long-winded.
I didn't give it five stars because the author often skips steps. While some steps the author skips because he has gone over them before (which is good), other steps are completely new and necessary yet are omitted. You then waste a lot of time trying to figure out for yourself how to get to the next step.
Overall, if you want to get started with Lightwave, I recommend using this book coupled with the Lightwave help.
Awesome!!!.......2006-03-18
This book came just in time when i needed it!! It is in great quality, REALLY helpful book! This book is one of those beginner books.
Informative, Indepth, but..........2005-07-13
I have been working on Lightwave for about a year. I have prior experience with 3DS Max. In fact, I have also received formal training, at the expense of my employer, on Lightwave 3D 8, but nonetheless I still felt the need to run out and buy several titles on the subject. One of them happened to be this book.
First off, the book is loaded with a ton of -- yes! -- essential information! Likewise, the basics are covered quite thoroughly and in such a way that the reader does not become too overwhelmed. Basic concepts relating to the world of 3D are covered along with Lightwave specific terminology. The author receives high praise from me in this particular area. Spanning 20 chapters, an epilogue, three appendices, and a reasonable index, the book introduces the user to Lightwave.
The tutorials are laid out in a linear and numbered fashion. The reader who is comfortable enough with the program will have no problem with this; however, there are many parts in the book where steps are missing or the illustrations don't seem to match up with what is being presented. Take, for instance, chapter six, step 15 -- the user is instructed to drag a selection box around the top of their model and press the delete key. Seems simple enough, doesn't it? Well, everything is not always as it seems, because the authors seem to have forgotten to instruct the user to change Grid Snap to None under the Display Options | Units window. This is just one example of several in which steps were left out or utterly confusing. Enough of the bad points about the book however, because there are MANY more good ones.
The CD-ROM that comes with the book is also particularly useful, and I've not come across an item that was referenced in the book and not on the disc. There are even points in the book where the user is able to load objects and work from that point to the objective. The appendices in the back of the book are loaded with VERY useful information on an assortment of subjects. Are you looking for plug-ins and programs suggested by the pros? This book has a comprehensive list of them that will get you headed in the right direction, if not to your destination! Are you looking for resources on Lightwave online, such as particular websites? Guess what! This book lists them along with descriptions and screen captures of the sites, such as: Newtek, Flay, CGTalk, and many more!
I would suggest that you pick up this book with the fore-knowledge that you need to have the Lightwave [8] interactive PDF help-file loaded. This is definitely a title that will get you started on the right path to conquering Lightwave and, with diligence, mastering it.
A thorough guide.......2005-06-06
I just burned through this book in 2 days... after struggling with Lightwave for weeks, this book made all the fundamental building blocks of the program make sense for me in a way they hadn't before. The book is soft on the animation and dynamics end of things, but with a firmer grasp of all the basic tools, I'm so much more comfortable with the software. It was fun to read and the authors have lots of personal tips and philosophical advice that makes the tutorials more intriguing.
Informative and Inspiring.......2005-04-30
I really like this book. I've only had it a couple of days and I've already learned a lot. I'm not a complete newbie with Lightwave, but even the beginnig chapters of this book are peppered with little tips and tricks. And as always, Albee is just as interested in inspiring the reader as he is in educating. I have Dan Ablan's Inside Lightwave 8 book, which I really like too, but this one seems to be more coherent and connected, with a more consistent throughline. For me personally, I am enjoying the three different methods he presents for head modeling. I think his detail-out method is worth the price of the book alone. Great addition to my ever-growing Lightwave book collection!!

Customer Reviews:
An Excellent book !!!.......2006-06-23
Devamrita Swami has immersed himself in this search for the lost history of ancient civilization after he graduated from Yale in 1972.
This work must be counted as one of the greatest I have ever come across. Even a cynic would find this book highly entertaining.
This book cites so many interesting and unexplainable phenomena that one wonders how much we really know about our ancient civilizations. Even if you have narrow-minded views about our ancient history and life in general as of today this book is an eye-opener.
And there is a ocean full of bibliography attached to each chapter which makes it more the interesting to justify each and every claim of the author.
As the name suggests the book is not biased to Vedic Studies but takes the Vedic Perspective to explain some of the concepts which we are still grappling with.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
A must read for All who call themselves Hindu.......2006-03-17
It is a very well researched book, which highlights the Vedic thoughts without the Macaulian filter.
It was interesting to see the concepts, which I took for granted, being explained this way. Frankly there was nothing new for me. But I had learned these through stories that tell you "what" but not "why".
After reading this book, I realised the power of story telling and the effect that "Mahabharata" has on our pschyche.
This scholarly book is now part of my reference library, even though all the writing that I do relate to technology.
What erudition!! I would not hesitate a second to buy such a book.
Jan.......2004-03-20
Really superb overview of many astounding ancient facts. Unlike many more popular writers, author avoids the pitfall of speculation and interpretation. The Egypt section could be considered a definitive answer to the question how the pyramids and other giant structures were built.
An excellent overview.......2003-10-06
Devamrita Swami gives a complete overview of the many current ideas and vast ocean of information about ancient Vedic India. Search for Vedic India gives lots of mind-boggling information.
For example: The top blocks of the Egyptian pyramids weigh more than the ones on the bottom. For some reason the Egyptians used the heavier blocks on the top, where they would have been more difficult to place. The best theory to explain this is that that ancient culture could somehow levitate huge ton-sized stone blocks. Indeed, the 5000 year old Vedic India texts give similar accounts.
The book is very well written. It kept my interest like only a few rare other books do. I would recommend this book to anyone with even the slightest interest in history, anthropology, or ancient civilizations. Highly recommended.
From the blurb:.......2003-06-23
Bolder minds are keen to discover the hidden achievements of the ancients. This curiosity will transform the way we
see ourselves and the universe. Were some ancient civilizations much more advanced than what we allow?
Particularly, India's Vedic texts challenge our pride and conceptions. The sages of India's lost past delighted in knowledge of the nonmaterial. But they testify that they also knew how to produce material benefits without industry. Dare
we consider that the subcontinent of India, thousands of years ago, was the center of the greatest spiritual wisdom and mystical technology that the Earth has seen?
The India of remote antiquity may surface as the greatest find in the new millennium. Searching for Vedic India reviews
the latest research from both mainstream and independent sources. Most importantly, it unfolds the ancient answers to the
modern riddles of consciousness, reincarnation, extraterrestrial contact, and spiritual dimensions beyond the laws of time and space.
Devamrita Swami is an author and researcher specializing in the history and knowledge of ancient India. Born in New York City, he began his immersion in India upon graduating from Yale University in 1972. Visiting India annually for almost three decades, he is an ordained sannyasi, or monk, of India's Vaishnava spiritual tradition. He is now based in Australia, from where he travels to every continent. His previous
book, Perfect Escape, is a contemporary commentary on a section of the spiritual text Srimad-Bhagavatam.
Book Description
Accessno single word better describes the primary concern of the exploration and development of space. Every participant in space activitiescivil, military, scientific, or commercialneeds affordable, reliable, frequent, flexible access to space. To Reach the High Frontier: A History of U.S. Launch Vehicles details the histories of the various space access vehicles developed in the United States since the birth of the space age in 1957.
Even with four decades of public and private effort, access to space remains problematic. The core of the U.S.'s present launch capability, the Atlas, Titan, and Delta launchers, though much evolved, originated as military ballistic missiles in the 1950s. In fact, all U.S. launchers, including NASA's Saturn and Space Shuttle systems, have involved significant government input, as well as the efforts of private contractors. The technical challenge of reaching space with chemical rockets, the high costs associated with space launch, the long lead times necessary for scheduling flights, and the poor reliability of the rockets themselves show launch vehicles to be the space program's most difficult challenge.
This book presents case studies in the history of all the major rockets built by the United States. Each study has been written by a specialist knowledgeable about the vehicle described and well able to place each system in the larger context of the history of spaceflight.
Customer Reviews:
Well Researched Overview of Space Launch Vehicles.......2003-03-25
Well-known aerospace experts Launius and Jenkins have done a good job assembling 12 well-written chapters covering every major U.S. launch vehicle - Atlas, Delta, Titan, Saturn, Shuttle, etc. - as well as the Centaur upper stage. All of the chapters (including several by Launius and Jenkins) are very thorough in their coverage, resenting a well-written chronology of the subject. Extensive notes at the end of each chapter. Highly recommended.
