SOLID START BUT I WANT TO SEE MORE.......2005-11-01

The Sword of Shibito is a dark fantasy/horror manga written by Hideyuki Kikuchi with art by Missile Kakurai. As with many new Manga series it starts out a little slow as we are introduced to the main characters. In this case we meet Kinzou, a medicine man/pharmacist who is traveling the dangerous Adachi fields with a Samurai named Sawa and another companion, Umenosuke. Sawa is spinning tales of these dark lands when they find themselves attacked by a demonic woman who kills Sawa and Umenosuke and forces Kinzou to carry their remains to a mysterious castle. Kinzou meets the lord of the castle who plans to use Sawa's body and Umenosuke's head to restore his son, Shibito, to life.

Shibito is nothing but a walking, rotting mummy and his soul must be put into this new, young body so he can fulfill his father's dream of returning the Saezuki clan to power to rule all of Japan. The father casts the spells of the dark arts and at first it seems as if he has failed but slowly the new pieced together body begins to stir and eventually sits up. Yet Shibito is not yet fully restored. His body moves but he as yet hasn't regained his memories or his mind in general. Kinzou is charged with being Shibito's teacher and guide in the world as he ventures to find his destiny. But not everyone wants Shibito restored to life...Popping up to seemingly aid Kinzou and opposed the Saezuki clan is the mysterious Ranken, a toy maker who makes lifelike and life-size automated constructs. One of his constructs battles Shibito but loses and Ranken disappears through a mysterious portal in the castle. Soon Kinzou finds himself falling through another portal into a strange village where an outlaw Samurai fugitive is on the run from vengeful villagers and ends up taking the daughter of one of the villagers hostage. Kinzou tries to broker a peace and even helps the injured fugitive but now must deal with the villagers who want the man dead.

Sword of Shibito action, horror with Kinzou providing some comic relief as he continues to find himself in one bad situation after another through no fault of his own. The first issues sets up a number of questions such as just who is Ranken and why does he oppose Shibito? What will happen when Shibito regains his memories? What part will this village play in the story? There are enough good elements going on here that I want to find out what happens next. The final part where Kinzou falls through the portal into the village does seem to distract from the central plot but we will see where the story goes from here. The Ranken character is very intriguing and I want to see what part he will play in the succeeding chapters as well as the development of Shibito. The art is very strong throughout also at times the battle scenes can be somewhat difficult to follow. A good start to the series.

Too early to tell ..........2005-06-17

It's almost impossible to judge this manga series from just the first volume alone. The artwork by Missile Kakurai is decent, even though I found some of the action scenes hard to follow and confusing. There isn't a whole lot of story in these 200 pages. In fact, the complete first volume feels like merely an introduction to a much larger tale. The stage is set, characters are introduced and then, after an act of resurrection, it's already over. I think this series has potential and may develop into something great but this first volume didn't do a whole lot for me.

It talks about recovering from your struggles and breaking down unnesscary walls you have put up, and it's just a comforting, good book to read!

It's Patsy all the way. Her wit and humor make reading and listening to her a joy. I own the audio book and absolutely love it - I've listened to it beginning to end several times, and hesitate to pass it on to a friend (because I doubt I'll get it back). Very uplifting and entertaining. She tells stories that make you realize that you're not the only one to go through "that" (and makes you laugh about it :). ENJOY!

If you are preparing for the CISA,do not waste your money on this book. Put your money towards the ISACA's study materials. I found several errors as well as disagreements between this book and ISACA's study guide.

If you are a company or IT person that is responsible for keeping your company compliant with the Sarbanes-Oxley act of 2002, you owe it to yourself to pick up this book. Chock full of tons of helpful advice and guidelines, this 300+ page text will help get your IT department streamlined and well structured. The Sarbanes-Oxley act was put into place in direct response to the outlandish acts of companies such as Tyco, Enron, MCI and the such where the public will know that their investment money is being used towards non-corrupt practices and this involves not only financial numbers, but also the systems that hold such important data.

Lahti, Peterson, and Lanza, begin by discussing why the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) experience promises to be quite different in terms of depth, cost, and resources. Then, the authors discuss how Congress enacted the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 in an effort to prevent financial scandals such as those that occurred at Enron and MCI. Next, they explore the need for SOX compliance and the possible consequences of noncompliance--lawsuits, negative publicity for the company, and fines for executive management. Compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act is a legal requirement for publicly traded companies. The problem with the Act is that it requires things like adequate internal control structure and a report on the effectiveness of the internal control structure and procedures while not providing any guidance or any specific mention of information technology implications. Luckily there are several other more specific standards to follow, with the most common among auditors being COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology).

This book concentrates on using various open source tools (included on a CD with the book) to audit and document your system for compliance with COBIT. The authors take the reader through a detailed walk through the COBIT components and explain each one as well as how to implement it successfully. If it is followed the result is a sustainable system that is well documented, has set policies to prevent problems, has solid controls, and establishes responsibilities for change and improvements. Sarbanes-Oxley IT Compliance Using COBIT and Open Source Tools is highly recommended for anyone preparing to undergo and Sarbanes-Oxley audit but is also highly recommended to others because it is so useful for documenting your system and setting responsibility for changes to it.

This and its predecessors are books for all seasons about a man for all seasons. We all owe our lives to him. It is a book for the hard working and the pampered, for nations that cut funds for their Veterans Administrations like the United States has almost continually done, and for parents who wonder how much more to pamper their little darlings so that they will be loved as fathers and mothers. Montgomery beat the best that Hitler could send against him and us, and he did the same wherever he was sent. His expertise was strategy, not politics, not taking advantage of interns or skipping out on his wife. We need a few more like him.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a highly polarizing, emotional issue. This is reflected in the highly polarized customer reviews of this book: clustered around one- and five-star reviews. The American public and the media are highly sympathetic to the Israelis--U.S. politicians are terrified to be on the wrong side--whereas the European public is more sympathetic to the Palestinian plight. This polarization has been fueled by the Holocaust and 9/11, the latter monolithically casting all Muslims as anti-Semitic, anti-American terrorist thugs. These painful events color emotions despite their displacement in time and place from a conflict between the Zionists and Palestinians that began many decades before.

It is a shame that a very good book recounting what historians (as opposed to the public) have said about this conflict has been mauled by personal identifications and sympathies--as though "unbalance" must be a feature of the book and not its readers. Serious academics have been impressed by this book. For example, the Association of College and Research Libraries (CHOICE) judged it to be an "outstanding academic work in the year 2000". The book does illustrate how an historically victimized people, the Jews, have, in their rising up, victimized another (not necessaril blameless) people, the Palestinians--perhaps analogous to how religiously persecuted Europeans, seeking liberation, victimized the resisting native Americans threatening to obstruct a providential colonization. No surprise; it is the way of the world. Virtually all modern states have the same history. This book, based on American and Israeli scholarship, simply tells how it was done, not whether it should have been done.

History It is Not.......2004-12-21

The synopsis claims that this is the only book you need in order to comprehend the complexities of the modern Middle East. He may be a psychologist, but a historian he is not. Just reading the introduction will tell you all you need to know about Baylis Thomas' leaning on the Arab-Israeli conflict. They say there are 2 sides to every story, but obviously he hasn't heard of that. He's biased, polemic, emotionally charged and if you depend on this book for your history lesson on the greatest divide this world has ever known, it is as good as you looking at it through one eye minus the benefit of peripheral vision. Maybe I'll go out and buy a book on psychology written by a historian. I'd probably have better luck.

One sided - All the Way.......2004-11-28

It's unbelievable that someone who claims to be writing a 'history' book can be so one-sided and biased. In no part of the book does the author adress the terrorism and violence the arab countries and the palestinians have used and are still using in order to attack Israel, and deny it's right of existence. The author simply is acting as a voice for the Palestinian and Arab propaganda, which is not interested in a peaceful and just solution in the middle east, but in the annihilation of Israel.

What's the point of writing something as awful as this book?.......2004-10-02

The author is not a specialist in Middle East studies. He's not saying anything new or original. He's taken his material from an assortment of antizionist propaganda books. He hasn't found any surprising new facts to divulge. What's the point?

Is the author helping anyone by coming up with such a misleading attack on Israel? He isn't helping Israelis or Arabs: he's merely giving them more reasons to fight. He's encouraging Arabs to kill Jews and encouraging Jews to defend themselves not only against Arabs but against antizionist lies. As for those of us who are far away from the area, he's not helping us either by trying to misinform us all. He didn't need to do this. Maybe he was fed up by his job and decided to do something really naughty instead.

Power system oscillations without a big disturbance occur spontaneously in a power system and if they are not damped out properly may lead to grid failure. In this book we examine the methodology to study this phenomenon from several angles. Modeling the system to investigate these oscillations is given top priority along with physical interpretation of the phenomenon. The book covers low frequency 1-3 Hz as well as sub synchronous oscillations in the 10-50 Hz range. The latter are called torsional oscillations. Design of Power system stabilizers as well as damping techniques for sub synchronous oscillations are discussed. Modeling and design of FACTS devices is included.
