This is a MUST-READ for all men -- experienced or not!.......1999-01-22
This book had so many rules applicable to my life. I just wish that I had gotten the book earlier so that I wouldn't have made all the mistakes in dating that I did. I highly recommend this book to all -- it's a book that you can read over and over again!
It's also a very reliable source because it was written BY MEN. I've found that women say one thing but mean another. Thus, we're getting the real deal advice straight from the frontlines!

Book Description
Peter Graham Scott joined BBC-TV in 1952 as a young producer-trainee. Since then he has been part of every major development in the television medium, including the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the birth and growth of commercial TV, special broadcasts for schools, the second BBC channel, the well-timed introduction of color in time for live shots from the moon, the utterly "different" Channel Four, and Channel Five. During the early years of his career Scott directed over 40 original live dramas, in addition to episodes of Danger Man, The Prisoner and The Avengers. Scott's career reflects the rapid development of British television over four decades. He tells his story with insight, wit and thorough technical knowledge. Along the way he shares anecdotes about stars and their humble beginnings-Judi Dench, Glenda Jackson, Patrick McGoohan, Diana Rigg, Michael Gambon and Jane Seymour-as well as tales of encounters with such talents as John Gielgud, Anthony Hopkins, Peter Sellers, Donald Pleasence, Dylan Thomas, and Brendan Behan. The author concludes his memoir with some perceptive thoughts on world television's past-and future.

Photography so personal, you'll want to leave a tip..........1999-03-10
Williams' book plunges you head-first into an era when people truly did make money "the old-fashioned way" ( they earned it with their sweat and tears). We sit as interlopers as we watch the toil of daily lives unfurl across the beautifully photographed pages. We sit at the counter while the waitress who has been at this particular diner way past her prime, exchanges small talk with the patrons. We can almost feel the cold rain against our faces as we view the water-drenched images of The Cheyenne (NYC) and The Highland Park(NY). We sense the simultaneous joy and frustration on the faces of diner owners who can't be sure what the future holds for their life's work. William's has taken us into a doorway that we rarely have a chance to enter; he has given us a license to the past. Through this book we have the opportunity to rekindle the memories of our childhood, teenage years and young adulthood...all at the same time. We remember what it felt like to sit at the counter with our Dads. We remember the hard formica tables against our ribs as we shared a ketchup-drenched kiss across the table. We remember introducing our "little ones" to the wall boxes of music that sit on the tables and watch in wonderment as they try to figure out "where the music comes from".
A Wonderful and Revealing Look at Hometown Diners.......1999-02-26
Robert Willaims captures the essence of our hometown diners in a beautiful and touching way. The photographs are beautiful and a perfect example of excellent photography. I would highly recommend this book to all readers, especially those who remember the nostaglia of going to your hometown diner. Don't miss this one!

Entertaining and Fun with Good Information.......2007-03-07
Many gambling books are dull reads, even if they give the best possible analyses of the games and how to play them intelligently, so it is great to read a book that is enjoyable and, at the same time, informative. This book gets high grades in those areas. Definitely worth reading.
Frank Scoblete: author of Golden Touch Dice Control Revolution!
A view point worthy to read.......2007-01-13
I liked the way the author wrote. It was an easy read. The video poker section maybe outdated by now because casinos change machines so often.
You Really Should Read This Book.......2006-05-24
If you are only going to read one book on gambling, this is the one you should read. It covers just about every casino game of any consequence and gives you the essential information about each game with a minimum of blather.
This book doesn't promise to make you rich, but it sure can keep you from looking like an idiot. The best part is that it is a pleasant read. It makes the details easy enough to understand so that you can become a competent gambler without having to have a PhD in mathematics.
Even if you don't go to casinos to gamble, this book explains the factors that make it possible to win more often than you lose - for all kinds of games. That's why you really should read this book.
Great Book ! - The Real Starting Point.......2006-05-14
For everyone who isn't an expert gambler, this is the book to start with. It gives you straight information on how to gamble well, how well you can really expect to do if you do it right and what is just wishful thinking.
This is not a get-rich-quick snake oil book. It really does explain how to gamble like an expert and how to achieve the best possible results by playing the games that you stand the best chances at. The best advice is on avoiding sucker games and sticking to the best bets. There is also some really amusing material about BS books that promise the impossible.
Even if you think you are already a pretty knowledgeable gambler, this little book can probably teach you a thing or two that will make you a better player. Beneath the humorous title is a really useful book.
> More Fun When You Win!.......2006-03-21
This is a great book! I read it before my last trip to Las Vegas and it really helped me. Rather than wasting my time and money on sucker games, I followed the advice and played the games that gave me the best odds. Not only did I come out ahead for the trip, but the casino comped my room!
I find that going gambling is a lot more fun when you win. This book can really improve your chances. It sure has helped me.

A Necessity For The Beginner - Useful for Veterans.......2002-12-24
Tom Ainslie loves gambling and has provided some of the best advice ever in this handy little book. Never mind the Beat Vegas, Get Rich At Craps type books. This one will give you a solid plan on what to play and how to play to maximize your winnings and minimize losses. The part about money management should be read by every gambler before arrival at the casino. He best summarizes his own book by saying that gambling should be fun, not an ordeal.

Excellent AutoCAD Instruction.......2005-10-10
I have been using this book as the text for Introduction to AutoCAD at American Samoa Community College for the past five years. Each new edition incorporates the best of the preceding edition. It is self paced with excellent tips and clear instruction. It is one of the only intro texts to use an architectual example for the vehicle to teach increasingly complex commands and tasks. AutoCAD can be confusing to the beginner but with this text, anyone can learn AutoCAD with or without a formal class.
from a teacher of AutoCAD.......2004-05-06
This AutoCAD manual is clearly written and easy to follow. The book is organized around a drawing or set of drawings of a house. The reader learns by following the steps. My one criticism is that it isn't always possible to determine the general procedure from the specific drafting exercise that it leads you through.
Very Satisfied.......2003-12-19
This book is great for beginners ! I have bought other books such as the Mastering Autocad from George Omura ,but the thing I really enjoyed about this book was that it was explained in very simple terms , as not to intimidate a beginner !The only reason I got this one was to catch up on this version of Autocad 2002, previously coming from Autocad 14 . It's excellent for novices !
good tutorial if you're starting at zero.......2003-05-16
I told a potential employer that I'm good with AutoCAD. I had never touched AutoCAD and after playing around with it for a bit, it was obvious that I wasn't going to figure it out by browsing the menus. But I have a lot of computer experience and I learn fast. This book started at the absolute basics--drawing a random line--and progressed using the example of a little cabin, until by the end of the book I was rotating it in three dimentions and rendering it with shadows and a background image. One feature of the book I liked is that the author shows several different ways to do the same thing. It took me about five days to get through the whole thing, and when Monday rolled around and I went to interview, I knew more about AutoCAD than the guy who was hiring, which (though he didn't know much) is all that mattered. I since have acquired another book that I'll use to become an expert, but now I at least know how the program works and can do basic necessary procedures. I don't know what else is out there but this book was exactly what I was looking for and I'm glad I bought it.
Very well edited.......2003-04-09
This is a great!!! book for beginners with autocad. It is very well edited; meaning it doesn't take you down endless rabbit holes of frustration. It is an excellent book to learn autocad as it relates to architecture. Highly recommended.
Book Description
Personality, Character, and Leadership in the White House is the first book-length work to present truly scientific personality evaluations of the American presidents. This benchmark work dramatically improves the state-of-the-art in classifying presidents and predicting performance in the White House. Dr. Steven Rubenzer and Dr. Thomas Faschingbauer asked 120 experts, including biographers, historians, presidential advisers, and other knowledge-able sources, to rate the presidents by filling out standardized personality tests. For each president that fell within their area of expertise, the evaluators completed a 592-item questionnaire regarding personality, intelligence, and behavior. From the results, the authors identify nine traits related to presidential success, examine how the presidentsâ personalities affected their job performance, and list their scores on the major dimensions of personality. Rubenzer and Faschingbauer provide revealing insights about every American president and profile twenty-one of them in detail, including all postâWorld War II presidents and all of the âgreatâ presidents.
In addition to revolutionizing the way we look at the presidency, the study offers entertaining and unexpected conclusions. For instance, which recent presidentâs personality and character most closely resembles those of Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln? The answer may surprise you. Presidential scholars, students, and anyone who likes to be well informed when discussing their political preferences will find this enlightening book irresistible.

Objective Analysis of the Presidents.......2005-03-01
In my opinion, this is a landmark book. The first to evaluate the presidents' personalities in a scientific way. I will refer to it again and again. Parts of it are dense, especially the first part where they describe the methods used but it's well worth the read. Each chapter begins with a brief biography of the president profiled. If you have read other books on the presidents you may disagree with some of the things you read in this book. But regardless of that, this is a great book for comparing the presidents with one another and understanding their similarities and differences. It's a good starting point for further reading. I highly recommend it.
subjective opinions converted to scientific objectivity.......2005-01-09
The author's purpose was to reduce to a minimum individual opinions by a statistical approach that converted differing ideas on the part of so-called experts to a decimal conclusion. These results were compared with other presidents examined in an attempt to determine who among them were best qualified for the highest position of the land. They were also compared to the average American. My rating of just four stars is based on the description of the method used that took up a considerable part of the first part of the book. As essential as it probably was, I found myself bored by what to me is less than an interesting discipline. At the same time I agreed with their conclusions, although I do not believe that a single discipline standing alone is sufficient adequately to assign qualities to particular presidents. I was truly enlightened by what I discovered from the method used, and must admit that the characterization formed by the connection of the dots, so to speak, concurred with many of my own opinions based upon the discipline of History alone. I question whether the technique can actually foretell how well a candidtate will perform if elected as president. It would be helpful, I think, if the test were applied to Vice Presidential hopefuls because there are several significant instances where a Vice President assumed the office of President without being elected. In the most recent election, I felt those chosen to perform as Vice President was vital to my decision, and honestly placed my vote in jeopardy. By the same token, after seeing the performance results as indicated by the author's technique, I am of the conclusion that whoever is elected, or who assumes the presidency, will not necessarily result detrimentally to our nation. Nevertheless, the evidence drawn from the author's endeavor might give the electorate the means to better decide who should be selected based on more than emotion alone. There is no doubt that the work, audacious as it seems, will be of interest to all who read it. It would be well worth the time.
Enjoyable Reading, Thought Provoking Insights.......2004-10-24
This charming, entertaining book will appeal to readers with interests in politics, American history, or personality. The authors persuaded numerous historical experts to rate each of the U.S. presidents on personality questionnaires. The ratings were then pooled and used to "profile" each president on such qualities as Character, Assertiveness, and Extraversion. Some of the results are about what one would expect (Abraham Lincoln was tender-hearted and exceptionally concerned about the well-being of less-fortunate people) but others are more thought-provoking (recent U.S. presidents seem to be more extraverted and perhaps less intellectual than their predecessors). The personality profile for each major president is accompanied by a brief and colorful biography. I had difficulty putting the book down, as I learned intriguing new facts about such colorful presidents as Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, and Andrew Jackson. This book is not only a great deal of fun but may also be useful to teachers of U.S. history, as well as instructors who want to introduce their students to modern personality theory and what psychologists call the "Big Five" personality traits. A sampling of the book's findings (and enlightening profiles of the 2004 presidential candidates George W. Bush and John Kerry) can be found on a website established by the book's authors at http://www.personalityinhistory.com/Default.asp
A Groundbreaking Study.......2004-09-13
I found Personality, Character, & Leadership in the White Housse to be a very thoughtful, creative work that clearly has no equal in what it attempts to do. I have 12 years of graduate work in mostly Political Science, Psychology, Statistics and Public Administration and an extensive research library dealing with topics related to to study of Presidential Leadership. Given this background I believe I am qualified to say that there is no book like this. A great deal of work went into it and it takes the study of Presidential Leadership to a level no other study has reached. Clearly it is one that should be considered for use in many Political Science courses and perhaps in some other fields as well. It is hoped it will stimulate serious discussion of just how much we can learn about the strengths and limitations of using scientific personality research and quesstionnaires to evaluate political leadership at the highest level of the U. S. government. It also is a delight to read. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the areas its title mentions. I know it will be a great help in my own research and should be for others too. I also beliieve the general thoughtful concerned citizen will find much food for thought in it.
Psychological Analysis of American Presidents.......2004-09-03
Personality, Character, and Leadership in the White House: Psychologists Assess the Presidents by Steven Rubenzer and Thomas Faschingbauer is unusual in that it combines a number of ingredients (an interesting subject, solid science and a good read) in a way that one seldom sees in a non-fiction book and does it successfully. This is a book that will interest history buffs and mental health professionals equally. In Personality, Character and Leadership in the White House, the authors have used a well know psychological test of normal personality dynamics which can be completed by individuals who know a living or deceased subject well. Rubenzer and Faschingbauer assembled groups of historians who were very familiar with particular presidents and had them complete the test on American presidents based on their knowledge of their personalities and behavior. The results provide insights into the qualities that make a good (or bad) president as well as how these leaders differ from the general population. The book is straightforwardand the authors do not inject their personal political beliefs into the mix. In addition, it is well written and jargon/psychobabble free. I highly recommend this book to both professionals and general readers who want to know more about what motivates our presidents, past and present

Advice for next summer's vacation.......2006-08-16
You wouldn't survive for two weeks what this crazy guy endured for seven years. Luckily, he wrote his memories, they are back in print, and you can have the experience without getting bitten by any monster, big or small. Up de Graff is a young engineer from New York state, who is anxious for adventure. When a former schoolmate, a rich guy from a big time Equatorian family, invites him over to look for business opportunities, he eagerly accepts. During a year Graff runs a salt mine up in the Andes, surrounded by the Indians' intrigues adn resentment, as well as by the unethical conduct of his friend's family. After some guys beat him up badly, Graff finally breaks up with his friend and decides to travel down the Amazon to reach its mouth in Brazil and then take a ship to NY. But as soon as he has stepped down the Andes, he meets another American adventurer, the great Jack Rouse, with whom he decides to explore the mysterious and unknown river Yasuni, to collect rubber-gum to sell dearly in Iquitos (this is 1896). The two men intern in the dark jungle along the river on a canoe, surrounded by treacherous and elusive aborigines, innumerable insects and other bugs, and not least by vampire bats who suck their blood at nights. After two years, they reach Iquitos with lots of rubber but almost dead. They spend six happy months there, meeting other adventurers from the US and Europe. Graff, Jack and two others, plus two Indians, decide to travel up the Peruvian Amazon to discover the gold of the Incas. Of course, they experience lots of misadventures among the Jibaros, the original head-hunters. They are unreliable and violent people. They return to Barranca empty-handed, but Graff still goes on in two more expeditions, each one more disastrous than the previous, until he and his associate Ed Morse cut short the last and return to Iquitos, from where this time Graff does travel back home.
During his years in the jungle (imagine it 100 years ago!), Graff had to learn to find his way, semi-nude, in almost identical landscapes; to isolate fabrics with rubber to make bags and shoes; to improvise canoes; to build shelters and cure wounds. He ate alligator, ant-bear, turtle, monkey (he liked them a lot), insects, birds and some vegetable flour preserved in (ugh) Indians' saliva. He suffered interminable fevers, was attacked by vampires and meat-eating ants, escaped the hug of anacondas, was defeated many times by tiredness and malnutrition. An episode that stands out is the time he and his comrades participated in a Jibaro battle, and then saw (and explained to us) precisely the way in which these guys used to reduce their enemies' heads to a third of their size.
All of this written with a wonderful sense of humor, modesty, and grace. Even if Graff had added some spice of his own, they don't sound like hunter's stories, but like the humorous account of crazy years of youth. The last adventure ends with the story of Breginia, a young and brave girl travelling alone through the jungle in search for her kin, after escaping from kidnapping.
Ironically, this survivor died in his fifties in a car accident. What nature couldn't achieve, the machine could.
Too Good to be Non-Fiction.......2005-10-24
This book I started reading in a half price book store and could not put it down. This is better than a fiction adventure any day.
The author survives by his wit and wisdom along with the help of the natives. Made me want to pack my bags and head for South America to retrace his trip.
fascinating diary on amazon jungle life in the 1890's.......2004-12-06
So they finally reprinted this book! My copy is an antique that I found by pure chance at my local GoodWill store. I loved this book! It is the diary of a man who spent several years living in the amazon jungle in the late 1890's. His encounters with nature, exotic animals, natives, tropical diseases (and more) fascinated me. The most well-known part of the book is how he got to observe first-hand the process of how headhunters shrink the heads. (It is a very precise process!) I'm surprised there are no other reviews of this book. Maybe it has been out-of-print so long that very few people know about it. If you like true life travel and adventure stories, I think you will like this book!

Customer Reviews:
Excellent text for a working Process Engineer.......2002-09-23
As a Process Engineer, working in both operations and design in the upstream oil industry, it is pleasing to find a text that finally covers all the unit operations you are likely to encounter in oil processing. The book is an easy read that doesn't get weighed down in first principles. This means that you can quickly get the information you require and have confidence in your decisions. It's a must for anyone working in the industry, especially those who may be offshore, I always have my copy with me.
Surface Process Equipment.......2000-06-15
This book is very useful for both Process and non process engineers working in the field and finding all kinds of surface equipment. The relation between the equipment is also very important while customer advising because process engineering in Latin America is kind of a game each one plays by his own criteria and having a great weakness on equipment availability. Lets say that general rules does not apply, but with the guidance of this book is very easy to understand why things happen and how decisions affect production fields operations.
