Yes, that's right, GTO is back and shows a soft side in this fifth volume. His dim-witted student, Tomoko, or as her classmates call her, Slo-mo-ko, has been dissed and treated as a slave by her so-called friends. GTO decides to help her become all she can be by becoming her producer and all around promoter. Her first gig is to enter a contest to become a model for an city park ad campaign. Also in this volume we have the continued campaign of the school principal to fire GTO even as he continues his perverted behavior of touching women improperly on the subway. We are also introduced to one of GTO's fellow teachers, Teshigawara, who just happens to be slightly insane, who just happens to be obsessed with Azusa Fuyutsuki, who just happens to be in love with GTO, even though she wont admit it to herself. The GTO series continues to entertain but is beginning to lack the edge that it started with in favor of sentimentality.

My 9-year old daughter loves it!.......2007-08-10
We gave this book to my daughter for her 9th birthday. She loves cats and had seen this book and asked for it. It has great photography and quotes to go along with them (the one about cats being born with their eyes closed and spending most of their life that way is a personal favorite and a definite truism).
The book is small but well worth the price for your cat lover.

A small picture book that is sure to bring a smile to your face, Cats Do the Cutest Things has pictures of cats on one page and an appropriate quote on the opposite one. You will recognize the habits that make a cat a cat over and over again as you leaf through the pages. The pictures are well done and do an excellent job of capturing the true nature of cats. Cats Do the Cutest Things is a recommended diversion from life into the world of cats.
A Cat Lover's MUST HAVE.......2004-12-27
"Cats Do The Cutest Things: is a book about one of my FAVORITE subjects - CATS! Alexandra Ortolja-Baird has created a wonderful compilation of cat photos and simple sayings. The photos are of those definitely cat-like moves or posses that anyone who has ever owned a cat has seen his/her own bundle of fur do. The quotes, some from famous authors such as Mark Twain or James Herriot, that go with each picture provide a laugh or reminds one of when they saw a cat do what the words were talking about.
This is a great book for a coffee table or even better as a gift for the cat-lover on your list. It is small enough in size so that it makes the perfect shelf decoration and anyone looking through your bookcase will notice it right away. The cover photo - a cat snuggled in a blue boa - makes me think of the warm and cuddly times I have had with my own cats.
This is a book I will look at again and again and one I will buy to give to the cat-lovers I know the next time I need a gift for them. I LOVE it!

Read this book but Stay Out of the Shower.......2002-11-26
William Shoell's look at Psycho and its cinematic legacy sheds interesting insights on suspense filmmaking from 1960 to the mid 1980s. Shoell's take on the aftermath of Psycho is that American film making in the post Psycho era was able to become more graphic thanks in part to Psycho's overwhelming success at the box office. Shoell backs up his claim with analysis of multi-genre Hollywood films from the 60s on. Most notable are his criticism of the Hollywood western and television violence. Horror fans will be delighted to revisit the golden age of the stalk and slash film as Shoell highlights that era's top pictures. Shoell gives an organized, interesting, and carefully rendered account on 25 years of shock cinema. It is interesting, and informative reading.

In The Cultural Life of Intellectual Properties, professor of law and cultural anthropologist Rosemary J. Coombe brings an illuminating ethnographic approach to an analysis of authorship and the role law plays in shaping the various meanings that animate these protected properties in the public sphere.
Although such artifacts are ubiquitous in contemporary culture, little attention has been paid to the impact of intellectual property law in everyday life or to how ownership of specific intellectual properties is determined and exercised. Drawing on a wide range of cases, disputes, and local struggles, Coombe examines these issues and dismantles the legal assumption that the meaning and value of a text or image is produced exclusively by an individual author or that authorship has a single point of origin. In the process, she examines controversies that include the service of turbanned Sikhs in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the use of the term Olympic in reference to the proposed gay Olympic Games. Other chapters discuss the appropriation of such celebrity images as the Marx brothers, Judy Garland, Dolly Parton, James Dean, and Luke Skywalker; the conflict over team names such as the Washington Redskins; and the opposition of indigenous peoples to stereotypical Native American insignia proffered by the entertainment industry. Ultimately, she makes a case for redefining the political in commodified cultural environments.
Significant for its insights into the political significance of current intellectual property law, this book also provides new perspectives on debates in cultural anthropology, cultural studies, and political theory. It will therefore interest both a wide scholarly and a general audience.

A frighteningly good gamebook.......2002-11-07
... So begins your adventure in House of Hades, Steve Jackon's excellent Fighting Fantasy horror gamebook. The entire adventure has you trying to survive the horrors of this vile mansion, desperate to find a way out. However, not all that you encounter will be evil... The gamebook is well written, with many encounters that are delightfully scary; so much so that there is a "FEAR" score to keep track of. Each time you get frightened, you add points to your fear score. If it reaches a certain amount (one roll of a die plus 6, determined before you begin), then you are frightened to death, and the adventure is over. All in all, House of Hades is one of the better Fighting Fantasy gamebooks. The ending even provides a surprise twist.

Of all the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, House of Hades is unique in two main ways. First of all, it takes place in the present time and "real" world: no dragons to fight or spaceships to fly. Second, it is based on genuinely creepy stuff ala "Amityville Horror" and "The Exorcist": grotesque demons, fanatic cultists and dark rituals. The plot and story itself are scary: putting it in a gamebook with you in the middle elevates it to another level! Don't read this one alone, even with the lights on!

Horrible book.......2004-02-19
Learning from the Singer 1997 paper, I was able to run hierarchical models by Proc Mixed easily. However, reading "SAS System for Mixed Models" got me more confused about what I was able to utilize easily. Not to mention, I spent more than $90 back then. Don't waste your money on it.

This volume, while focusing on the Mixed procedure in SAS, gives a great overview of mixed models theory and application. Full of examples from a variety of fields and better yet, real data to hone one's skills.

Tons of examples! It's a nice mix between theory and applications, citing scenarios from all industries. Not only do they show you the code, they also produce the output and go through it section by section.

This references goes beyond the SAS Reference Manual (V.8) for mixed models. This is an applied statistics book, but theory is given in an end chapter. Basic and advanced topics are presented, and although introductory sections are provided...the book is written at a graduate-level and previous experience with analysis of variance is a desirable prerequisite. Topics covered include common mixed models, analysis of repeated measures data, random effects models, analysis of covariance, random coefficient models, heterogeneous variance models, spatial variability, generalized linear mixed models, and nonlinear mixed models. Two to six examples are discussed in detail for each of these cases. If you're trying to figure out a split-plot analysis with random effects and a complicated covariance structure...i.e. messy data...this book will do for you in two hours, what a week of reading the standard SAS manuals would have done. Also, if you primarily work with mixed models, this book is a lot cheaper than the standard SAS manuals, and tells you more about mixed models.

Exactly what the title says........2006-11-12
I am a psychologist, but I did not have any dedicated evolutionary psychology education within my university training. I bought this book to make up for my own lack of knowledge and to give me a starting point from which to understand evolutionary psychology. And, it did the job I hoped for. Having said this, I think it does assume some psychology knowledge, although not a great deal. This book would be best for people with at least a first-year-level undergraduate psychology education, but other people without formal training would still understand most of its content without much difficulty.
This book provides exactly what its title promises, a beginner's guide to evolutionary psychology. What exactly makes this a beginner's guide is that it takes the time to explain assumptions, background, and terminology. Happily, the background explanation does not weigh down the text, or unnecessarily delay the appearance of more central content. In addition, there's a useful short glossary. Moreover, the book is clearly designed to promote learning about the content because each chapter concludes with a plain-English summary that reinforces the main ideas.
Despite its short length (about 165 pages of text) there is quite a lot of interesting content in this book. In particular, I found the research on child development, brain development, social interaction, and moral behaviour very interesting. I think other readers would find the information on close personal relationships (couple relationship / mating) very interesting too - which was one areas of psychology in which I am familiar with evolutionary explanations. Finally, this book provides a different, although possibly complementary, explanation of the evolution of religion than Richard Dawkins's recently top-selling "the God Delusion".
A Beginner's Guide.......2005-08-14
This book is better than most in that it looks at more than one point of view on certain topics. Good for getting people started on evolutionary psychology, although if you've gotten far enough to read this book some of it will be a little remedial. If you know something about EP already you'll want something more challenging.

Stream-bed sediment for the size fraction less than 150 @mm, examined in 14,000 samples collected mostly from minor tributaries to the major rivers throughout the Mississippi River drainage system, is composed of 5 mineral fractions identified by factor analysis-Al-silicate minerals, quartz, calcite and dolomite, heavy minerals, and an Fe-Mn fraction. The Al-silicate fraction parallels its distribution in the regolith, emphasizing the local sediment source as a primary control to its distribution. Quartz and the heavy-mineral fraction, and associated trace elements, exhibit a complementary distribution to that of the Al-silicate fraction, with a level of enrichment in the bed sediment that is achieved through winnowing and sorting. The carbonate fraction has a distribution suggesting its dissolution during transport. Trace elements partitioned onto the Fe-Mn, possibly amorphous oxyhydride, fraction are introduced to the streams, in part, through human activity. Except for the heavy-mineral fraction, these fractions are identified in suspended sediment from the Mississippi River itself. Although comparison of the tributary bed sediment with the riverine suspended sediment is problematic, the geochemistry of the suspended sediment seems to corroborate the interpretation of the geochemistry of the bed sediment.
