Product Description
This innovative casebookwhich has proved extremely popular with students and professors alikestarts from the premise that cyberlaw is not simply a set of legal rules governing online interaction, but a lens through which broader jurisprudential issues can be re-examined. Accordingly, this book goes beyond plugging Internet-related cases into a series of pre-existing doctrinal categoriesFirst Amendment, copyright, trademark, etc.and instead emphasizes the conceptual debates that cut across the areas of doctrine touched by cyberspace. Moreover, the casebook uses the rise of the Internet to encourage readers to reconsider various assumptions in traditional legal doctrine. This dual focus provides readers with broad-based and sophisticated training in Internet-related legal issues while also making the argument that cyberlaw is a coherent and useful field of study. Thus, instead of compiling a list of topic areas, the book seeks to define a set of conceptual issues that extend across the spectrum of Internet legal dilemmas. While all of the traditional subject matter areas of cyberlaw are addressed, they are placed in a new framework one that asks both students and professors to consider what it is that cyberlaw has to teach us about law more generally. The new edition retains the qualities that have made the book so successful in law schools across the country. It is compact, serves a variety of course formats, builds new cases on top of a foundation of non internet legal doctrine, and fosters lively and provocative class discussions. The third edition will, of course, provide updated case and statutory coverage, but in addition, the casebook has undergone a major revision to provide even greater conceptual clarity and respond to user feedback Treatment of subjects has been adjusted throughout to reflect new thinking in the field, each chapter now includes greater framing to highlight the issues to be explored, materials have been reordered to make more intuitive conne
Customer Reviews:
An excellent introduction.......2007-02-05
A truly useful and intriguing work, this book abandons the traditional division of topics along doctrinal lines and chooses to group the subjects according to the way they challenge our established beliefs. Therefore, the reader encounters a chapter on "Geography and Sovereignty" rather than "Jurisdiction" or "Individual Autonomy and Commercial Control" rather than "Copyright". This works well and constantly makes the reader rethink Cyberlaw. The cases and articles are relevant and carefully chosen. Essential work for students, highly recommended for others.

Book Description
The Gulf of Guinea volume is part of a series on the Large Marine Ecosystems. This volume combines the latest research on the Gulf of Guinea from scientists working primarily in the region and from Europe. It covers the dynamics of the oceanic and coastal waters of the region, the major biological resources, pollution in the marine environment and the socio-economics and governance of marine fisheries. A significant number of new data sets, including some which have been repatriated from outside the region, are now made available through this publication.
The combination of the various chapters underlines the interlinkages that exist between the interannual and seasonal dynamical behaviour of the oceanic offshore waters and the living marine resources along the coast, and the direct effect they have on the livelihoods of the populations living throughout the Gulf of Guinea.
The volume is intended for those who have a general interest in the region as well as those who work professionally in the field. It will also be of immense value to resource managers and policy-makers as a demonstration project on how research can help solve the pressing problems of economic and food security in coastal regions.

Book Description
High-level treatment discusses of the general theory and its applications: basic principles, coupling coefficients for vector addition, transformation properties of the angular momentum wave functions under rotations of the coordinate axes, irreducible tensors and Racah coefficients. Also, applications involving oriented nuclei, coupling schemes in nuclear reactions, more. 1957 edition.
Customer Reviews:
Want to know angular momentum? Read this book!.......2000-01-14
This book is a good self-contained exposition of the theory of angular momentum for students at advanced undergraduate or early graduate level. Covers many of the same areas as Brink and Satchler, but the explanations and approach are different (less formal). The two books complement each other very well.
Book Description
This book helps writers reconceptualize what is thought of as " the personal" within larger social contexts. It enables a writer to move from mere opinion to analytical and persuasive writing.
Writers are asked to engage in two complementary forms of inquiry: "historical analysis" analyzes change and continuity over time; and "cultural analysis" explores how and why different perspectives can exist within the same time period. In short, this book shows how to trace how a particular issue is woven into the larger social and cultural fabric
For help with writing historical and cultural analyses.
Customer Reviews:
Just what I needed!.......2000-06-09
This book is perfect for my freshman course in composition and communication. My 24 students all take a parallel course, Introduction to Theology, with a single instructor who is using textbooks by Paul Tillich, Hans Kueng, and Viktor Frankl. Our team must show the interrelationship of one field of learning with another and make cross-disciplinary thinking a pleasurable experience. READING OUR HISTORIES takes the student from analysis of a portion of her own life to analysis of personally relevant issues throughout history and across cultures. One of the strongest points of this book is the stimulating collection of six to twelve stories and essays provided for each analysis of nine different topics. Topics such as fashion, family portraits, beauties and beasts, Elvis: Man or Myth, and The City: Dreams or Nightmares provide plenty of variety to hold the students' interests while they are practicing actual cultural and historical analysis. Assignment sequences are detailed enough to save the instructor the trouble of inventing his own, yet leave room for expression of a wide range of individual perspectives. Students who need to practice writing research papers can use a combination of the readings in the book and the audiovisual and written texts suggested for further research at the end of each chapter. They can focus on the message they want to communicate and practice citing sources that are easy for them to find.
Book Description
Possibilities haunt history. The force of our explanations of events turns on the alternative possibilities those explanations suggest. It is these possible worlds that give us our understanding; and in human affairs, we decide them by practical rather than theoretical judgment. In this widely acclaimed account of the role of counterfactuals in explanation, Geoffrey Hawthorn deploys extended examples to defend his argument. His conclusions cast doubt on existing assumptions about the nature and place of theory, and indeed of the possibility of knowledge itself, in the human sciences.

The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine

Provides depth and detail on Palestine history and issues.......2006-03-06
The first edition of Encyclopedia Of The Palestinians appeared in 2000 and there have been vast changes in the region since, prompting the need for this substantively revised edition, which offers new entries about these recent developments. Articles have all been updated, photos of important leaders and events added, and fifty key documents included. Encyclopedia Of The Palestinians provides depth and detail on Palestine history and issues, making it a recommended pick for general-interest college-level history holdings, as well.
Concise Discussions Without Overt Bias Can Promote Peace.......2002-12-05
There is much more detail that should be included. Four examples:
1 - The first 20 years of the region's decoupling from Turkey is inadequately discussed;
2 - Faisel Husseini, the man T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) chose as his key to launching the WWI revolt) was assisted in escaping the Turks by Lebanese-born Rafiq Habib Gabour, the 20-year-old consul on behalf of Persia to Turkey;
3 - Rafiq Habib Gabour dedicated his life to evicting Britain from Egypt and from Palestine, yet is not mentioned in the book;
4 - Working-class Jews and Arabs of the region worked together to improve their working conditions, wages, and political freedoms. Yet, not one line to this effect is uttered. This is key, for those in power and those with a financial stake in the area may possibly have driven a wedge between the two groups for which the entire world is now paying a stiff price!
The organization also could be much improved. Trying to find information on particular people, such as Faisel, or his brother Abdullah, or their father King Hussein of the Hegaz, is a bit of a meandering trail.
Despite these shortcomings, this book is quite useful and remarkably free of bias that leads any reader into a particular judgement. It is a must for anyone wishing to gain a fair insight to Palestine and Israel.
I highly recommend the book to any individual wishing to gain an insight into the development of the region and the seeds of the current strife. Supporters of Israel will find the book helpful, just as will supporters of the Palestinians. Few other books about the people of the region can boast such a claim.
Excellent Encyclopedia about Palestine & Palestinians.......2000-05-12
This Encyclopedia in one volume brings together a wealth of unbiased information about Palestine & Palestinians. It walks you through a snapshot of Palestine past & current events. I gained valuable information about past & current leadership within the Palestinian community. For example, briefly it gives you a snapshot about Palestinian families & their well known family members (i.e. Husayni, Nashashibi, Abdil Hadi, Khalidi, Nsabih,..etc. families). Beside that the book also gave me a deep insight into the past & present political parties, their leadership, statistical data (population, immigration, water sources, ..etc) before & after the catastrophe, Israeli settlement, ..Etc. Although the book contained very good maps, it lacks pictures of its subjects & events. An Arabic & Hebrew version of this book is a must. Good Job

Dictionary of Palestine Conflict.......2005-02-19
Update notes: (a) the full title is "Dictionary of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Culture, History, and Politics". (b) there are 2 volumes..."Volume 1: A-J" (pages 1-259) and "Volume 2: K-Z" (pages 260-517). (c) there are 4 different ISBNs: ISBN 0-02-865977-5 (2 vol. set hardcover); ISBN 0-02-865978-3 (vol.#1); ISBN 0-02-865979-1 (vol.#2); ISBN 0-02-865996-1 (e-book). This revised 2005 English-language edition was originally issued in French in 2002. By "revised" I mean that its "Yasir Arafat" article even mentions his death in November 2004, and printed in December, just before the start of the early 2005 Sharon-Abbas rapprochement. A very impressive compilation of about 1,500 articles relating to the overall Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Some articles contain only two sentences of commentary; others are two pages long. It details not only dozens of political parties throughout the Middle East, but it also provides short biographies of even obscure politicians involved in the Palestine controversy throughout the world -- past and present. It provides the names and dates of various Israeli military operations throughout Palestine. It lists the relevant UN resolutions. It details the main issues at the annual Arab League summits between 1964-2004. Obscure Islamic terrorist (err, "liberation") groups are noted in separate articles. It has that "European" writing style: each sentence is written tightly, void of wordiness and each most informative. It is written in an unbiased, neutral manner. Islamic militants will be disappointed that it doesn't editorialize in condemning everything regarding Israel (err, "the Occupied Zionist Territory"). If there is a shortcoming to this dictionary, it fails to allow the strident "intensity of belief" flavor of the militant Palestinian perspective to come through. But then this is a dictionary, not a passionate political tract. I find that some of the "why" is missing besides the listed "fact." For example: (a) While "Rashidun" is defined as the first four "rightly guided caliphs" who followed the Muslim Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), it is not mentioned "why" the first four are called the "rightly guided"...that is because they were the only caliphs to personally know Muhammad and thereby are considered amongst all of the caliphs to possess the best understanding of his teachings. (b) Regarding its "Arab-Israel War (1948)" article it notes that Palestinians objected to the creation of the state of Israel because they considered it a "violation of their right to self-determination." Okay, that is a Western "politically correct" statement; too bad they didn't give the true reason: that Muslims know that Muhammad expelled the Jews from the Arabia region and therefore no independent Jewish state can be birthed from Muslim territory. (c) Regarding its article on Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, while it notes that "His visit to the Temple Mount...in September 2000 sparked Muslim riots", it fails to give "why" the Jew wanted to cross the road: Sharon believed that the 1948 cease-fire guaranteed that Jews could visit the Temple Mount, and so he requested and obtained approval from the Palestinian Authority prior to his stroll (Bodansky, "The High Cost of Peace," p.353-4). But, this is a dictionary, not an encyclopedia. There are few photographs; you get your money's worth in the well-written words. Fortunately it does not provide much "ancient" Biblical history to the Palestinian conflict; concentrating instead on events developing since the start of the 1880s Zionist movement to settle Jews in Palestine, and primarily since the 1940s -- but strong even in the 2000-2004 Intifada era. It concentrates on the "political" disputes and personalities, rather than on any lengthy analysis of the religious chasm between the peoples. Given its price, you will probably want to view it at your library before buying it. I don't know of a substitute for it.

Book Description
In the Semitic languages the vowels are not part of the alphabet and each Semitic language has its special method of marking its particular vowel values. This book describes the oldest known vocalisation system of Hebrew--a supralinear method that was introduced in the seventh century, and soon displaced by the classical Tiberian system. The volume provides full descriptions of the scattered Genizah fragments containing this particular system, as it was applied to pieces of ancient liturgical poetry.

Is this a homophobic conspiracy?????.......2002-03-31
So long as Bart Simpson can say, "George Washington Carver is the guy who carved up George Washington." and so long as Black Americans are portrayed as lacking math and science aptitude, there needs to be publication about the importance of George Washington Carver. This book said many important things. For example, George Washington Carver was a credit to dark-skinned blacks because many critics at the time (and many people today) note that most famous or achieving Blacks were partially white. Also, this book suggests that the relationship between Carver and the famous black activist at the university where he worked did not always get along. Still, if Langston Hughes' biographer was criticized for downplaying Hughes' gay experiences, equal noise should be made here. The author repeats in several passages that no proof exists to say Carver was gay. Well, why would that be a concern? Who made the suggestion? Why isn't the allegation examined in more detail in this text? The author mentioned that Carver loved to give young men massages in peanut oil. Is that not considered homoerotic solely because it doesn't involve genital contact? This book was published a year after AIDS was discovered and when homophobia was at an apex. Thus, perhaps the author's avoidances can be contextualized and forgiven. Nevertheless, I find this book disturbingly heterosexist and I would avoid reading more works from this biographer.
