Interested in purchasing rental property, I picked this book up the other day. It is not a "make millions in real estate" book but a down-to-earth book written for the commen person interested in buying a couple of properties. The author tells you what he prefers to do but provides information on other options, and he always seems to point out little ways to save money. The advice seems sound and covers everything from finding a property to financing to rent collection. He covers the pros and cons of using management companies and gives the reader ideas on how to make their property more attractive to tenants. Highly recommended.

This book had a little information on very common issues in buying a house. Did you know that when selling a house you should keep it in nice condition i.e. no broken windows? I mean come on! This listed very obvious ideas, and it didn't go in depth on any issues. Basically if you have bought a house before, or even know someone who has bought a house; you don't need this book.

I read an earlier edition of this book several years ago. As a landlord with over 20 years in the business, I can confidently say that this book should be required reading for anyone who is even thinking of having any rental property, whether its a basement apartment or a multi-plex. A good read for apartment dwellers as well, will give you some idea of what your landlord is dealing with.

this book was very informative and helpful. the information is down to earth and instructional. as a new landlord i found this very helpful. a definite book for someone entering the landlord business or even just thinking about it.

If you are looking at this one thinking it's some sort of RV Joke Book or hilarious compendium of RV adventures, it's not.
Some of the content has nothing to do with RV'ing and though interesting is most definitely not amusing. I love the writer's style though and read the whole book cover to cover in about an hour and a half, with a few laughs to myself on the way, one or two out loud and on the whole I enjoyed the book, it was worth the $10 shipping to here in the UK.
I would say go ahead and buy it for another viewpoint on RV'ing, which is what I bought it for, but there is no substitute for your own RV adventures and you can't beat the laughs you have between you and yours on tour.

I read this book straight through in one sitting. The parts about the authors two dogs are particularly funny. (I don't blame the Doberman for hiding under the table). I hope he writes another book with further adventures. I would definitely buy it!

Mr. Parker has a delightful sense of humor--something that as a fellow rver I know can be of immense value on the road. I can identify with most if not all of the situations he described and found the book both entertaining and accurate in describing some of the "difficulties" that an rver may encounter along the way. I look forward to hearing more of Mr. Parker's travels in the future--whereever his rv may take him.

FASCINATING.......2002-02-06
I've read many books about Katharine Hepburn and this is one of the best. She is a very interesting woman. So, besides that, the thing that makes this book good is that the author actually new Katharine Hepburn and spent a fair amount of time with her.
The book covers their relationship between 1968 (when they met) and 1992. Mr. Prideaux wrote some screenplays especially for Great Kate. The book tells about their working relationship and their friendship of sorts.
Mr. Prideaux also writes about his meetings and work with other stars such as: Elizabeth Taylor, Dame Wendy Hiller, Judith Anderson, Patrick Duffy, Julie Harris, Jean Stapleton, Ryan O'Neal and Burt Reynolds.
Oh, how fascinating the 'STAR' quality is. It is amazing how some 'stars' feel superior enough to walk all over people and others are as nice as can be, no matter how famous they are. They are just people after all... no better and no worse than the rest of the world.

Very few books on Hepburn have been written by people who even met her, let alone those who knew her personally. James Prideaux has been a close friend for many years. this quality book includes some fun new prestige classes, items,and totally unique planes. planes detailed with hazards, places, and new monsters. also has great instructions on portals, travel, and how spells effect other planes such as summoning spells, and rope trick.

THE Book on Requirements.......2006-04-03
Being in the software industry for about 10 years, I had known that our teams often did a poor job of managing, gathering, and understanding requirements. Our projects suffered because of this, and despite my gut instincts we were going the wrong direction, I often felt that I didn't have statistics and the insight to counter some of the more experienced staff or management. This book greatly has changed that as now I can come in armed with info and present better ways to improve our requirements management. I now feel that we'll deliver the right product or system instead of breaking the hearts of our customer and our own team members (because we won't be failing!). The authors also write in a very clear manner and provide excellent examples. I can't believe I am writing this about a requirements book, but I found myself actually _looking forward_ to reading each chapter. I am now confident I have the tools we need to sucessfully manage requirements. Thanks for a great book!

I'm quite surprised to be the first reviewer of the second edition of this book since it ia a reference in requirements management.
After, but even during, reading this book you perceive that it's a sum up of their vast, deep and long experience. The authors are the implementors of RequisitePro the tool, now part of the Rational Suite, for requirements management, but this book is not a promo. Instead the whole process of gathering, organizing, and connecting (to following steps in the process) requirements is presented. It's clear to them that basically you have to collect the clouded needs of the stakeholders and formalize them in a set of documents that you have to give to the development team. And the entire process should effectively work, managing change.
After introductory chapters, you are presented with six skills a requisite team shoud have to effectively manage requrements and each skill is expressed, through different chapters, with what needs to be done and what needs to be produced.
I especially reccommend team skill 6 'Building the Right System' because in those chapters you find how to connect use cases to design (chapter 25), how to generate test cases from use cases (chapter 26), traceability techniques and tool from user needs to code (chapter 27). Besides this, team skill 4 'Managing scope'.
Don't forget to read chapter 30 that illustrates and compares extreme, agile, and roubust requirements gathering methodologies, and chapter 31 that sums up all the steps illustrated in the book, suggesting a methodology for requirements gathering based on the kind of project.
In the appendix you find chapters with the whole results of the case study (HOLIS), the detailed template of basic and fundamental documents for software requirements management, and, above all, two chapters one that is a brief presentation of RUP and another that is an indication on how to link the process so far developed to SEI-CMM and ISO 9000:2000.
Another useful feature is the fact that every concept is illustrated with a simple,visual example (in visual modeling philosophy) that allows you to impress the concept in mind. At the end you come out with all the concepts you found (even from different sources, but unrelated) with the big picture.
This is my first book on software requirements but it has many pros and only one con. It's a recent book that is aware of the state-of-the-art in managing software requirements (see bibliography), and I'm sure that other books in this field can't be overwhelmingly better. The only con, that is easily resolvable, is that the documents illustrated could have been included in a CD with the book.

Scientists at their best, explaining science to the public.......2007-09-04
Two of the worlds' most odious clichés relate to the scientific elite and are unfortunately often perpetrated by non-scientific academics. The first is that scientists crawl into an artificial environment and create monstrous things without regard to the consequences. The second is that the scientific upper-echelon finds it impossible to "lower" themselves to the level of everyone else. This collection of over 90 essays, written by the prime scientists of the 19th and 20th centuries, demolishes those beliefs.
The pioneers of modern understanding have often been the vanguard of those trying to educate the public about what the newest scientific discoveries really mean. And scientists have always written for the masses, such as they were. Even Kepler and Galileo wrote popular works to explain their positions.
The material in this book represents scientists at their best. You read of joy, anguish, fulfillment, shock, puzzlement, success and failure. In short, you read about humans experiencing the world. The level of difficulty is very low, suitable for high school on up.
Showing scientists at their human best, this book will convince all but the stone-minded that scientists really are at home in the world.

In a set of articles by great men that could have been worthwhile
we have a failure. I know because I have something real to compare this to
as contrastSource Book in Mathematics. What results is very like "The End of Science: Facing the Limits of Knowledge in the Twilight of the Scientific Age" in content.
What we have here is an anti-mathematics thesis with only vague points
to the real stuff.What results is a dumbed down collection that is really unworthy of the author.
Praising this book is like praising vanilla pudding!
Without the whipped cream of the mathematics the pudding is
limp and colorless. What we really need is a true source book
with the real material in it.
The closest I've seen is Roger Penrose's "The Road to Reality: A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe".
In dumbing it down there is no protection against science and the mathematics
that makes it work .

This book is obviously only geared towards those remotely interested in physics, so that's what it does: cater to the contemplative individual. Believe it or not, this collection of writings grabbed me from the first subtitle, 'Atoms in Motion', and literally propelled me through the next 800 pages of lectures and dissertations, ranging from Mr. Isaac Asimov to Albert Einstein. If you've been looking for a comprehensive and sometimes exhaustively extensive glimpse into the universe of physics and mathematics, Mr. Ferris' treasury will not disappoint. What's more, if you buy it here at Amazon, you definitely get every penny's worth. I mean, c'mon, 18 bucks? This sucker is hard-bound. Don't pass this one up.

comprehensive book on wild horses for youth and adults.......1999-08-16
Wild Horses: Stories and Activities is a wonderfully written, nicely illustrated book that would appeal to adults and children alike. Chock-full of stories, games, graphics and short essays, this book explains the natural history of the horse as well as the history of the wild horse movement. The Adopt-a-Horse movement is explored in a short story and followed up with various activities that enhance the learning for the children and get them more involved. I especially liked the stories and essays about natural selection which explained this phenomenon in a way that children could understand, and also was interesting to adults as well.
As a graphic artist, I found the illustrations to be enormously helpful in enhancing the text, and very effective in the interactive games and activities. My daughter (9 years old) and I both learned a lot about horses and wild horses in particular. She delighted in the games and projects and liked the gentle humor. She and I both had very limited knowledge about wild horses, so we found the essays and stories to be illuminating and just enough information to digest completely.
I would highly recommend Wild Horses: Stories and Activities to children and adults who are interested in wild horses, and to those who are not! They soon will have interest and some "horse sense" after reading this book.
