Fast track to millions!.......2002-10-11
This book contains all the real ingredients on how to invest in rental properties. Nickerson gives step-by-step guide and shares his PRECIOUS million dollar investment strategies in this book. After reading this book and learn so much from it, the only regret I have is not reading it 10 years earlier. It's a must for real estate investors. Highly recommended.
Nickerson a Real Estate Geniuse.......2002-04-09
Nickerson presents a conservative, realistic scenario for starting small and steadliy building wealth. This is not a get-rich-quick book or one that relies on gimmicks or nothing-down strategies. It shows you stepwise how to build a solid financial foundation in real estate, and how to leverage current assets into more valuable ones.

My favorite of his works.......2006-04-19
This is the first book I ever read by Gorey. After becoming a bit of a fan and exploring his writings further, I think this story holds up as having the best narrative and shock value. A great little yarn and a must for the collector.
A masterpiece!.......2000-05-19
This is one of Gorey's best stories, about the sad life of a sickeningly sweet orphan. Some people might prefer "The Gashlycrumb Tinies", but I think "The Hapless Child" is superior. This book is the epitome of Gorey's weird style, a parody of Victorian fiction, and always funny in a gruesome way, or gruesome in a funny way, depending on how you look at it. "The Hapless Child" is also collected in the first "Amphigorey" collection, but any serious collector of Goriana will have to own this edition as well.

Cats don't worry about what others think -- they just do what comes naturally. Readers will take this and a dozen other feline lessons to heart in this amusing, informative guide that shows how to be more proactive in business and in life. The 13 elemental tenets from the cat world help readers face the demands of a business world that makes it harder than ever to create meaningful work. Customer Reviews:
Waste of Paper--Cute, but Shallow.......2002-02-01
This book was a disappointment to me. It was recommended by a friend when I expressed intrigue with books that mixed illustrations and stories to communicate management messages (a la Who Moved My Cheese).
The author is a PhD-level, highly experienced consultant . . . with a couple of cats. From her biography in the book, I'd expect something strong. I'd describe the book more as "cute" or "artsy," rather than having strong content.
Hessler-Key suggests that we can learn from cats, applying their behaviors to better manage our own. Her thirteen messages are couched in short descriptive pieces from or about her cat. The advice is succinct at the end of each of the one-page lessons. Here are the messages: Pick a business or career that lets you express your talents. Done only that and do it well. Constantly look for ways to full your customers needs. Gauge your distance, position yourself, and leap. Follow your instincts. Clean out the old and begin again. Observe your environment closely and with detachment. Meander and Explore. Catnap occasionally-dream. Walk away from opportunities that don't meet your standards. Be independent, but don't isolate yourself. Pick your priority; be relentless. Life Balance. Find your place in the sun, relax and enjoy life.
A 14-page workbook section follows, asking a number of questions around each of the thirteen themes. This feature could make the book a worthwhile tool for workshops, though my personal concern is that there is not enough meat and seriousness in the book's content to inspire effective responses without the author or a colleague serving as a facilitator.
I'm not sure that today's reader is in the same space that this book occupies. It seems to fluffy and light to be taken seriously, even though the messages are valid. It's not up to what I'd like to see from this author and not what I'm accustomed to seeing from Berrett-Kohler.
A Solid Effort!.......2001-05-02
When an author such as entrepreneur Mary Hessler-Key shares her byline with a feline, you know what kind of book you've got. Yes, Hessler-Key has written a cute book, but it does have some sound advice, inspired - she says - by her cats. She noticed that Sheba and Jasper possessed qualities that every entrepreneur could use, and then captured their lessons, which are appealingly illustrated here. Before you write this off as a little ball of fluff, look at the thought-provoking questions that accompany her cat-inspired tips. You can read the book in no time and devote as much effort as you want to the intriguing questions, which will tell you more about yourself than you might think. We [...] categorically recommend this book to anyone - entrepreneur or not - whose life could benefit from considering a cat's worldview, including being curious, acting instinctively, grooming carefully, hunting persistently and keeping a watchful eye on both the mice and the dogs.
Creative Approach to Entrepreneurial Issues.......2000-06-02
An innovative and fun approach to addressing issues often faced by new entrepreneurs. The challenges to "clean your litter box" and be "purrsistent" are fundamental to success. You don't get lost in buzz words and honestly using the Cats-Can workbook at the end will give you a good start on your journey.
Cute approach that makes you stop and think..........2000-05-30
Mary Hessler has done a superb job of highlighting the key fundamentals that make an entrepreneur successsful. The cat anology will delight feline lovers everywhere but the important point is that you can be of a 'Scat, Cat!' mentality and still find useful ideas in this book. So often we read about sound concepts and tune out thinking, "I know...I know...I know." The author's ingenious use of attaching the basics to an analogy with a new twist opens the imagination for more serious thinking about entrepreneurial life.
Fun and informative book!.......2000-05-27
This is a series of very fun and light-hearted lessons on business and life in general. The format of "cat lessons" is an analogy for how to think more proactively about your work and personal life.
This book provides down-to-earth guidelines for thinking more like an entrepreneur. I really got a lot out of the "cats-can."
Whether you're a cat lover or not, you'll be inspired by Jazzie the cat! It's nice to read a business book that is not boring and can be read in an hour. I received this as a gift, and plan to give it to my friends and business associates.

Pretty good, but not really needed.......2005-03-28
There is nothing wrong with this book. It is well done, covers a lot of ground, and explains a few details and tricks that you might now know otherwise.
However, the game itself is not that complicated. I would argue that there is not much of a reason to buy a strategy guide for a game this straightforward. It is a bit of a shame, because this book isn't bad (perhaps even better than a 4-star review would suggest), but there just isn't much need for it.
Book Description
Only once we understand the long history of human efforts to draw sustenance from the land can we grasp the nature of the crisis that faces humankind today, as hundreds of millions of people are faced with famine or flight from the land. From Neolithic times through the earliest civilizations of the ancient Near East, in savannahs, river valleys and the terraces created by the Incas in the Andean mountains, an increasing range of agricultural techniques have developed in response to very different conditions. These developments are recounted in this book, with detailed attention to the ways in which plants, animals, soil, climate, and society have interacted.
Mazoyer and Roudart's
A History of World Agriculture is a path-breaking and panoramic work, beginning with the emergence of agriculture after thousands of years in which human societies had depended on hunting and gathering, showing how agricultural techniques developed in the different regions of the world, and how this extraordinary wealth of knowledge, tradition and natural variety is endangered today by global capitialism, as it forces the unequal agrarian heritages of the world to conform to the norms of profit.
During the twentieth century, mechanization, motorization and specialization have brought to a halt the pattern of cultural and environmental responses that characterized the global history of agriculture until then. Today a small number of corporations have the capacity to impose the farming methods on the planet that they find most profitable. Mazoyer and Roudart propose an alternative global strategy that can safegaurd the economies of the poor countries, reinvigorate the global economy, and create a livable future for mankind.
Customer Reviews:
Systematic Review of Agricultural Systems.......2007-09-05
I must say in brief that I disagree with the comment that denigrates the book because it does not cover the history of world agriculture in a complete matter. Though I am only a student of the subject, I would say this book is a systematic overview of the development of agriculture. To quote from the book (p. 21) "...one is not able to analyze a given agricultural system, formulate a diagnostic, and propose projects and policies of development without being grounded in a systematic knowledge of the organization, functioning, and dynamics of different sorts of agricultural systems.
This book attempts to build this type of knowledge, under the synthesized form of a theory of historical transformations and geographical differentiations of agrarian systems. ..."
The book covers agriculture as agricultural systems and not necessarily as specific manifestations. The chapters are roughly (and not completely) described as follows (p. 25): the second chapter recounts the origins of agriculture in the Neolithic epoch , third systems of slash and burn, fourth hydraulic agrarian systems in arid regions, fifth Inca (terraced) agrarian system, sixth animal drawn systems based on the ard, fallowing & accompanying animal herding in temperate regions of Europe, seventh animal drawn cultivation based on plow, fallowing, and accompanying animal herding in the cold temperate regions, eighth animal drawn cultivation using plow and without fallowing, ninth mechanization of animal traction and transport and ten being the motorized, mechanized specialized systems using mineral fertilizers.
Not being an expert in the subject, there may be other systems of agriculture not included that I don't know about. But it is a well-written book and is systematic. If one likes that approach, it is well worth to at least look it through if you can get access to it.
Also of note, there is a recommendation on the back of the book by Samir Amin, and, if you are appreciative of Amin's writings, then I think that you would like this book.
misleading title.......2006-08-25
This book is not a history of "world" agriculture. It is rather an idiosyncratic history of agriculture in Western Europe, with a few peripheral discussions of some odd non-European topics.
It has a chapter on Inca agriculture and political structure, but extremely minimal discussion of any other precolumbian American systems (Aztecs, North American, etc.) It has a chapter on Egypt - which strictly speaking in antiquity is part of the West - but this chapter goes all the way up to the late 20th century! Yet he does not have any discussion of the Arab agricultural revolution, which has been well documented by American and other scholars.
Most problematic is that the book does not have any significant discussion of the history of the main agrarian societies in world history -- China and India. China at least needed a chapter, all it gets is a few passages or mentions, and India even less.
In general, the few sources he cites are almost all French. While there are certainly good scholars in France, this author's source base is clearly too narrow to allow him to be aware of recent developments in scholarship outside his own country and language and the new directions and priorities in research.
The way the book was written is also problematic. The author issues judgments about particular periods as though his evaluations of them are final and obvious, when in fact scholarly views about the conditions and social relations he describes are by no means definite and remain matters of dispute. In such a large book he should have been able to find some space to acknowledge uncertainties and alternative viewpoints.
The book is long and does have some valuable information on many points. But it is definitely not the book that its title claims it to be.

Book Description
William Jennings Bryan (1860–1925) moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1887 as a young lawyer and rose rapidly in local Democratic Party affairs. In 1890 he was elected to the U.S. Congress in a Democratic landslide and was reelected in 1892, although he failed in a bid for the U.S. Senate in 1894. After the 1894 campaign, Bryan became editor of the Omaha World-Herald, continued his activities as a proponent of “free silver,” and began a successful stint as a Chautauqua lecturer, honing his already considerable oratorical skills. His reputation as a free-silver advocate was such that his delivery of the “Cross of Gold” speech at the 1896 Democratic Convention won him the nomination for president at the age of thirty-six.
Bryan’s proposal for the unlimited coinage of silver gained him support in the agrarian South and West and opposition in eastern states where banking and mercantile interests were paramount. During the 1896 campaign, Bryan traveled over eighteen thousand miles and made six hundred speeches in twenty-seven states, an unprecedented effort. Bryan lost to McKinley by ninety-five electoral votes, a result that conceals a relatively close popular vote. Although he twice more ran for president, served as Woodrow Wilson’s secretary of state, and ended his career at the Scopes “Monkey Trial,” he will always be best remembered for his galvanic address in 1896.

Book Description
Brave New World is one of the most famous literary works of the twentieth century. It is a brilliant â~dystopianâ vision â describing a future world of bottled babies, cloning, brainwashing and totalitarian social control. Blade Runner, a celebrated cult film directed by Ridley Scott, is another example of serious science fiction. It deals with a future in which technology is out of control. This movie, part thriller and part love story, addresses major issues â identity, compassion, the meaning of life. Study of both the novel and the film is set within the context of the NSW syllabus English Elective module â~In the Wildâ. The guide provides background material on the â~In the Wildâ theme, before offering a background notes and a summary of both texts. It concludes by linking the novel and the film to â~In the Wildâ, and providing model answers.
