40 years ago something happened that took away all the memories of the city. This forced people to recreate their culture from the ruins of the city around them. In this world Roger Smith is the Negotiator. He is a go-between for police, citizens and criminals in high-risk situations.
Within the rubble of city there can be found giant robots, a type called a MegaDeus, the remains of a unknown past. When things get out of hand Roger calls his MegaDeus, Big O, to action.
This manga includes events BEFORE the anime and has completely new stories not seen in the anime. In fact it seems to follow its own logic and had its own ending.

Informative but a little repetitive.......1999-12-28

Well, this is a great book that helps you know more about the 20th century greatest myth maker: Mr. Lucas. Although the book is a little repetitive (You just can read so many times the story behind Thx or how he became a film maker) it lets you inside the professional life of a man known for not giving many interviews in a year. The best article is by far the 1997 interview-story that John Seabrook wrote. And here's a little note for the editors, in page 186, the writer mentions that Lucas adopted 3 daughters, so next print you may want to correct that one. Enjoyable book, but get the cheap edition :-)

In this little book, two of film's most visible critics, Roger Ebert and the late Gene Siskel, interview three of the most influential film directors of the last 30 years: Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and George Lucas. (Scorsese is interviewed by both Ebert and Siskel. Spielberg is interviewed by Siskel; Lucas by Ebert.)

Much of the focus of this little book is directed toward film preservation, although the title of the book also refers to trends in filmmaking. It is interesting to see the predictions that all three directors made for the future of film when these interviews were conducted in 1990. Along the way, we gain a bit of insight into the passion these three directors (and these two critics) have for films and their future. An interesting look for the casual fan or the serious film lover.

A must-have for film fans. In what other book can one get so intimate about films with acclaimed film makers Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and George Lucas, along with prominent film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. Simply put, facinating, and a pure joy to read. Plus, the proceeds go to restoring films, such as JAWS, that are literally disappearing.

Many Ideas for Many Anniversaries, not just the 50th!.......2002-09-01

I found this book very helpful with many detailed ideas for anniversaries 1 through 20, then by 5's to the 75th. The first 20 years plus the 25th and 50th get more coverage than the others. While other reviews of this book focus on its coverage of the 50th anniversary alone, this book helps with ALL the anniversaries! Very creative party ideas by themes, gift ideas, menu ideas, etc. As I am not a party-thrower, the one thing I would like is more couples-only ideas, although there are some, and many of the group party ideas could be adapted. Generally a fun, lighthearted book that treats the milestone occasions with proper dignity, or gives you optional casual ideas for even those!

My siblings and I had to plan my parents' 50th wedding anniversary, and didn't know where to start. This book gave us helpful pointers on everything from how to word the invitations to how to handle the "no gifts, please" request. When you're totally clueless, this book is a lifesaver!

Miss Sowden has barely touched the surface with this book.......1999-02-04

As I am getting ready to host a 50th anniversary party for my parents-in-law, I was hoping to get some real information with this book. Instead, I found a rambling of ideas with only the most minimal information. If you're looking for content, look elsewhere. One example of the author's idea of advice is telling the reader that the couple could have new gold rings made -- leaving room for diamonds for their sixtieth anniversary. I can't imagine most people even contemplating this kind of thing.

Ms. Sowden should write a romance novel, she might have happier readers.

This book isn't for those just starting to work with the Adobe Creative Suite. But it is a great resource for people who work at design firms, ad agencies, and publishing houses where they work with multiple CS programs when creating designs. This book delves into the human element that makes up any warship. It starts from the Navy's conception of a class of light carriers, retrofitted from light crusiers, that would serve as a stop-gap measure until the larger Essex Class carriers could be brought on line. The resulting developement was a small, but fast, carrier that was staffed by battle experienced officers and men, many from the USS Hornet, that quickly gained the attention and admiration of the Navy's top brass. From the energy filled first hand accounts of dog fights, related by the participants themselves, to the heroric effort to save the ill fated ship during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the authors present never before printed insight into both the ship and the crew. The book dispells many previous inaccuracies concerning the source of the explosions that would dome not only the Princeton, but would also claim hundreds of victims that made up the crew of the USS Birmingham. These first hand accounts were collected over the years by interviewing the participants at veteran reunions and recollections of Mr. Bradshaw, himself a crew member of the USS Princeton. As part of his attempt to secure a place for women in scientific culture, the Cartesian Francois Poullain de la Barre asserted as long ago as 1673 that "the mind has no sex?" In this rich and comprehensive history of women's contributions to the development of early modem science, Londa Schiebinger examines the shifting fortunes of male and female equality in the sphere of the intellect. Schiebinger counters the "great women" mode of history and calls attention to broader developments in scientific culture that have been obscured by time and changing circumstance. She also elucidates a larger issue: how gender structures knowledge and power.

It is often assumed that women were automatically excluded from participation in the scientific revolution of early modem Europe, but in fact powerful trends encouraged their involvement. Aristocratic women participated in the learned discourse of the Renaissance court and dominated the informal salons that proliferated in seventeenth-century Paris. In Germany, women of the artisan class pursued research in fields such as astronomy and entomology. These and other women fought to renegotiate gender boundaries within the newly established scientific academies in order to secure their place among the men of science.

But for women the promises of the Enlightenment were not to be fulfilled. Scientific and social upheavals not only left women on the sidelines but also brought about what the author calls the "scientific revolution in views of sexual difference?" While many aspects of the scientific revolution are well understood, what has not generally been recognized is that revolution came also from another quarter--the scientific understanding of biological sex and sexual temperament (what we today call gender). Illustrations of female skeletons of the ideal woman--with small skulls and large pelvises--portrayed female nature as a virtue in the private realm of hearth and home, but as a handicap in the world of science. At the same time, seventeenth- and eighteenth-century women witnessed the erosion of their own spheres of influence. Midwifery and medical cookery were gradually subsumed into the newly profess ionalized medical sciences. Scientia, the ancient female personification of science, lost ground to a newer image of the male researcher, efficient and solitary--a development that reflected a deeper intellectual shift. By the late eighteenth century, a self-reinforcing system had emerged that rendered invisible the inequalities women suffered.

In reexamining the origins of modem science, Schiebinger unearths a forgotten heritage of women scientists and probes the cultural and historical forces that continue to shape the course of scientific scholarship and knowledge.

There wasn't anything that I thought was revolutionary here, but since I tend to get really stressed when my son doesn't eat (especially since he's pretty slim) this book helped and continues to help me relax some about it. I understand that my pushing food on him is a bad tactic in the long run. So, I'm glad I have it. Two unique things: a focus on our own "food legacy" that for some may ring true but for me was just not really an issue (I didn't have overly involved parents pushing or preventing my food habits) and two-a stronger focus on OVEReaters (reasonable in this era of obesity but far from my area of concern).

It may give you some peace of mind.

Having known something of Bob Rich from my wife's meeting him at work numerous times I was compelled to read his book when it came to my attention. I was captured by the book in the first few pages. It was the old " couldn't put it down" story. It was the first book I have read cover to cover in 30 years. Upon finishing the book you realize it's every bit as much about fishing people as it is about catching fish. I certainly hope Bob Rich writes another book, as his easy going story telling style just makes you want to run down to the Keys and go fishing!!

This is the first book about fishing that I have ever read cover to cover. It exudes great humanity and a fabulous insight into the great salt water fishing subculture of the Florida Keys. The author is a natural writer. I highly recommend Fish Fights as a great reading adventure.

I run a small deli here on the East Side in Manhattan New York. I haven't been to the ocean in 35 years let alone go fishing. I was intrested by the cover of this book and was even more intrigued when I read the back cover. It was a wonderful book I enjoyed Bubba's honesty and story telling. It read like a song.

Fun Fish Fights.......2001-09-21

Reading "Fish Fights" was a delightful adventure. It is a picaresque journey in the quest of an impossible goal and its telling in a straightforward, light style makes it easily accessible and satisfying entertainment. I found plenty for the expert on the arcane rules of the contest and the varied, specific skills required to boat (and then release) each of the 10 different, magnificent, maddening, game fish that are the object of this game and deserve, we learn, the respect with which they are treated. But the real delight for me was getting to know the protagonist -- a wonderful, bright, big hearted, gentle but very determined and targeted Captain of Industry (and that he truly is, but you'll have to do a little research to find out, since he doesn't tell us about it) that shares the time of his life with us. Not the least of my fun came from his fast, insightfull sketches of guides and companions, a wonderful selection of slightly askew personalities that reflect the diversity and twists, the surprises and flavor that flows from the open and closed waters of and around the Everglades. I wished I could have been with them, swapping tales, peeling sunbruned skin (me, not them) doling out dreams and plotting how to outsmart those cunning denizens of the not-so-deep. It is a charming, fun filled, man of a book.

I've known Bob (Bubba) all my life and this is just another example of the success he's had at whatever he tries. His book will be interesting for all people, those into fishing and those as myself who are not. Bob's story telling is great and I enjoyed the book from beginning to end. His conservation efforts should be applauded. Hope he finds time to write some more.
