A multi-voice, fully dramatized recording -- enhanced with dazzling sound effects

    Experience Spider-Man as never before!

The amazing Spider-Man launches into his most harrowing adventure as a trip to Florida turns into a deadly race to prevent disaster! The Lizard is wreaking havoc throughout the Everglades, as he seeks a cure for his dual identity as the reptilian villain and the human scientist Dr. Curt Connors -- the result of an experiment gone horribly wrong.

Spidey's attempts to halt the Lizard's rampage lead him to a web of intrigue and danger that may spell the destruction of a space shuttle launch. The action heats up as Venom, the alien symbiote who wants Spider-Man dead, arrives, targets the Lizard for death, and won't let anyone stand in his way!

Spider-Man must save the shuttle, halt the Lizard's rampage, and keep Venom from destroying the Lizard and the helpless scientist trapped inside him...before it's too late!

    3 out of 5 stars Super Reader.......2007-08-04

A fun Spidey romp by Ms Duane. Spidey fights the Lizard, natch, swamps involved, that sort of thing. Very competent.

After going to his friend Curt Connors for help, Spidey realises that Curt is having a few problems of his own. He tries to get the good Doctor's family somewhere safe, and then go and try and find the Lizard.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad... but not memorable either........2007-07-27

This novel had it's moments... I actually LIKE books that have plenty of Peter/MJ interraction, and this had some. But it really dragged in spots. There were a lot of pages spent setting up the story... even 3/4 of the way into it! Tedious.

    5 out of 5 stars nice.......2004-02-14

i thought the pic were cool and the book goes into great detail

    5 out of 5 stars cool.......2004-02-14

I like venom and lizard man so this book was cool but dont get the audio tape its awful.

2 out of 5 stars Oh boy, here we go again..........2003-03-14

Yep, ANOTHER Diane Duane Spider-Man book. Yep, another pretty boring and usless story that barely ties into the last book (Venom Factor) and I can barely see how it ties into the last book (Octupus Agenda) which I have yet to read, honestly. Yep, Spider-Man fights Venom, the Lizard, and faceless mercs in boring, boring, BORING scenes. Yep, Diane calls him "Spidey" almost throughout the entire novel (as if typing Spider-MAN is too much effort). Yep, Mary-Jane is in it and is even MORE annoying. Yep, more annoyingly juvenile sex-talk and sex-do between Peter and MJ. Yep, there is a stupid sub-plot of MJ getting work in Florida only to find shady dealings while doing so. Yep, you're supposed to take this seriously. Yep, I can't beleive I took this long to write this review.

Exactly what you would expect from a book with this title, "You're Probably an Old Geezer if..." is full of short observations about old age put in a humorous light. Of course some of the comments are funnier than others, but generally it is a source of a good laugh at old age. "You're Probably an Old Geezer if..." is a recommended book for anyone who wants to see the funny side of getting older.

While discussing the origins of the films and aesthetic and thematic similarities, this book illuminates the heretofore neglected contributions of such creative talents as Moss Hart, Charles Vidor, George Pal, and Bryan Forbes. Sprinkled throughout the text are provocative comments garnered form interviews with most of the above artists.

4 out of 5 stars Not the easiest exam, but a must have book for me.......2007-04-27

This one of those strange exams, well thats my opinion anyway, the subject is a bit all over the place, and for me i found i really did need this book for coverage.

I don't know if i will use it as a reference in the future, but it did succeed in helping me gain my pass.

                    2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2007-02-23

I've purchased numerous Cisco Press certification books over the years. This one is very disappointing from the editing stand-point. Command formats are listed in the text throughout the book and when the command is used in a configuration example, it differs from the format in the text. You are left to decide if there is a hyphen between words or a space. I found that I needed to consult Cisco's web page very often for clarification. This should not be required when you purchase a book that is supposed to prepare you for an exam. You're left feeling uncertain if what you've learned is correct and that's not what you want before an exam. The test engine that is included has even more errors than the book. The "correct" answers to numerous questions are blatantly wrong. There were several questions where you are told to make 3 selections and the test engine is expecting 4. Some questions wouldn't accept any answer, so the correct answer was no answer. Also, you are asked to determine the results of a configuration, but no configuration is displayed. Very disappointing. I haven't taken the exam yet, so I don't know if this book was worth the price/effort.

                    5 out of 5 stars A Must Have!.......2006-03-30

I'm an old CCIE/CNE/CISSP, and I have purchased dozens of technical study guides over the years. I believe this is one of the better exam certification guides.

Additionally, it contains real world examples and explanations. I refer to this book often in my day-to-day operations.

If you want the best study guide out there for the SNRS exam, then you need not look any further. Good luck!

5 out of 5 stars Great exam book 642-502!!!.......2006-03-14

Best reference for the exam. It covered everything necessary for the SNRS exam. I wish all the books gave me as much information as this for the specific exam. Nice job!

4 out of 5 stars CCSP SNRS Exam Certification Guide.......2006-03-14

This Exam Certification Guide is intended for candidates preparing to take the SNRS Exam in pursuit of CCSP certification. The book covers all of the exam objectives posted on Cisco.com sufficiently. The accompanying CD provides the book in PDF format, as well as a practice test engine to help the reader validate his/her comprehension of the material. Like other Exam Certification Guides from Cisco Press, each chapter starts with a "Do I Know This Already?" and ends with a additional Q&A.

The book is divided into eight parts, with each part containing multiple chapters. The book begins by providing a good overview on security from both a technical and organizational perspective. The second part gets into router and switch management basics. Assuming that someone reading this book would already have a CCNA level of understanding, the sections on router configuration modes seem unnecessary. If the reader finds themselves needing this information, they might find the remainder of the book a little difficult. The third part covers AAA. This section does a good job of explaining the topics, and then provides configuration examples to backup learning. Also, the included troubleshooting section provides the reader with good examples of common mistakes. The fourth part is titled IOS Firewall Feature set. The material again does a good job of providing a surface overview, but might leave the reader needing to supplement their study for the exam. The chapter on Mitigating Layer 2 Attacks was particularly helpful, as this is an area that is often overlooked in production networks today. The fifth part, VPN, covers various ways to establish VPNs using Cisco IOS. My only complaint about this section is that while there are snippets of configuration throughout, there is lack of final configurations at the end of the chapters. I would like to information on GRE and DMVPN, but as these are not exam objectives, I understand their omission. Part six specifically covers management through SDM. I would have liked this section to be more in depth, but it does adequately cover the exam objectives. Part seven covers final scenarios. Again, the lack of final configs for each section is a negative to me. The final part is the appendix providing answers to all of the "Do I Know This Already?" and the end of chapter Q&A.

Formatting of the book could have used a little more attention. There are many instances where diagrams, examples, etc., are not on the same page as the explanation causing the reader to flip pages back and forth. While this is a small detail, and not related to depth of content, it is annoying.

While I think the book does a good job of meeting its intended purpose, preparing an individual to take the SNRS exam, it does not provide adequate detail to serve as a field manual or deployment guide.

                    Book Description

What is it about having a life-which is to say, about having a sense of separate existence as a subject or self - that is usually taken for granted but is so fragilely maintained in certain patients and, indeed, in most of us at especially difficult times? In Having A Life: Self Pathology After Lacan, Lewis Kirshner takes this Lacanian question as the point of departure for a thoughtful meditation on the conceptual problems and clinical manifestations of pathologies of the self.

Beginning with the case of Margaret Little, analyzed by D. W. Winnicott, and proceeding to extended case presentations from his own practice, Kirshner weaves together an avowedly American reading of Lacan with the approaches to self pathology of an influential coterie of theorists. By drawing out common threads in their respective discourses on the self, Kirshner achieves an original integration of Lacanian theory with other contemporary approaches to self pathology. Of special note is his ability to sustain a dialogue between Lacan and Kohut, whose shared clinical object, discernible through divergent vocabularies and conceptions, is the struggle of the subject to avoid fragmentation that would obliterate a sense of aliveness and preclude active engagement with the world.

Kirshner's opening chapter on the gifted, troubled Margaret Little and his concluding chapter on the eminent political philosopher Louis Althusser, whose self pathology culminated in his strangling of his wife, Helene Rytman, in 1980, frame a study that is brilliantly successful in bringing self issues down to the messy actualities of lived experience. Analytic therapists no less than students of the human sciences will be edified by this cogent, readable attempt to infuse Lacanian concepts with the conceptual rigor and clinical pragmatism of American psychoanalysis and to apply the resulting model of therapeutic action to a fascinating range of case material.

A well-written, original contribution to contemporary psychoanalytic writing, focusing on the lack of a sense of self. The book looks at identity in symbolic terms and finds a kind of weak redemption possible -- the triumph of Kohut, ultimately, over Lacan (though the latter doesn't get short shrift, even if his theories seem underintegrated at times). The writing is clear and compassionate; only the final chapter on Althusser seems underimagined.

                    Book Description

Using Jacques Lacan's work as a key, this groundbreaking work reassesses the philosophical significance of Freud's most ambitious general theory of mental functioning: metapsychology. Richard Boothby forcefully argues that this theory has been misunderstood, and that therefore Freud's impact on philosophy has been unjustly muted. Freud as Philosopher illuminates in a fresh and newly accessible way the central points of Freud's metapsychology-including the guiding metaphor of psychical energy and the final, enigmatic theory of the twin drives of life and death-through the three cardinal Lacanian categories of the Imaginary, the Symbolic, and the Real. This exciting and brilliant book will have a definitive impact on how psychoanalysis is conceived in relation to philosophy.

Boothby does two things: he interprets Freud (through Lacan) and clarifies at the same time key-concepts of Lacan's philosophy. The book is lucidly argued and shows a pedagogical skill of the author.
I have read several introductions to Lacan but this one is by far the best and will hopefully be called a "classic" one day.

                        Book Description

In History After Lacan, Teresa Brennan argues that Jacques Lacan was not an ahistorical post-structuralist. She tells the story of a social psychosis, beginning with a discussion of Lacan's neglected theory of history which argued that we are in the grip of a psychotic's era which began in the seventeenth century and climaxes in the present.

By extending and elaborating on Lacan's theory, Brennan develops a general theory of modernity. Contrary to postmodern assumptions, she argues, we need a general historical explanation. An understanding of historical dynamics is essential if we are to make the connections between the outstanding facts of modernity--ethnocentrism, the relation between the sexes, and ecological catastrophe.

A challenging feminist, interdisciplinary study, History After Lacan will be essential reading for social, cultural, and political theorists, historians, psychoanalysts, and literary theorists.

                          Book Description

In 1972, Alphonse De Waelhens published in French his 'La Psychose'. It was translated and published in English as 'Schizophrenia' in 1978. Here, in the 2001 edition, Wilfried Ver Eecke presents the English translation together with an eleborate essay on the usefulness of De Waelhens¿ theory as an effective approach to schizophrenia, after the decade of the brain. He draws several lessons from evaluating the literature on schizophrenia and also addresses an apparent inconsistency in De Waelhens' presentation of Lacan's theory of schizophrenia. Where De Waelhens seemed to argue at one time that the mother figure was the crucial figure to explain schizophrenia and at another time that it was the role of the father which was crucial, Ver Eecke argues that the defective function of each influences the function of the other. In his essay Ver Eecke also reports on successful methods and techniques used by both Lacanian and non-Lacanian therapists to treat persons afflicted with schizophrenia. It is gratifying to notice that even non-Lacanian techniques can be given a Lacanian explanation.

5 out of 5 stars A tragic history seen through an archaeological filter.......2002-04-02

Many years ago I happened to visit the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville. As an anthropologist who worked in Asia and taught in Australia, I wasn't extremely familiar with Florida history, but I thought I knew something about the Indians. I had even spent a couple days on the Mikasuki reservation many years before then. Florida's native Americans were the Seminoles and Mikasuki, right ? Wrong ! I was stunned to learn of the true pattern on that fortuitous visit. By the 1760s, Florida's original population of some 350,000 had totally disappeared, the last few survivors dying as refugees in Cuba.

On a subsequent visit to Gainesville, a couple years ago, I bought Jerald Milanich's book, planning to get a more complete picture. I am very glad I did. This is a most excellent book, written for people who may not have professional backgrounds in archaeology, anthropology or history. The author hits just the right note. Everything is explained most clearly and readably. The twelve thousand year history that came to an end in the 18th century is traced through archeological discoveries. The great number of maps is a delight, while he includes some interesting photographs too. Milanich describes Florida as it must have been when the Spaniards arrived in the early 1500s. He tells of their efforts at exploration, colonization, at conversion, and their brutal repression of resistance, which coupled with wave upon wave of new diseases, almost completely wiped out Florida's native population. The French attempted briefly to colonize the area too. You will learn that "Florida" once extended up the Georgia coast into South Carolina. This area was known as Guale. For those of us reared on Anglo-centric American history, Milanich's book is an eyeopener. The life around the Spanish missions is depicted, the life that was destroyed finally by raids from the north by Carolina colonists, English forces, and allied Indians. These violent incursions, which brought thousands of Indian slaves to the Carolinas or sent them to be sold in the West Indies, finished the awful job of genocide. Florida is a land of ghosts. Today, amidst the urban sprawl and commercial mess of much of that state, nobody gives a thought to the Calusa, the Apalachee, the Timucua, the Jororo, the Tocobaga, the Mayaca, the Tequesta, and so many others, some whose very names may not survive. But when you paddle down one of those palmetto-lined rivers, past turtles and alligators, thrilled to see deer or otter, herons and ducks, or when you visit the former capital of Spanish Florida, St. Augustine, you might give a thought to the original Floridians. Florida is still dotted with archaeological reminders of them. Milanich has not neglected to tell us where. I suspect this is THE book on Florida Indian history.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful History Of Florida's Indigenous People.......1998-02-04

Mr. Milanich has really outdone himself. His descriptions of the native Floridians and their interactions with Europeans is forthright, honest, and most of all backed with excellent research. This book is a great addition to anyone's library, especially if you're from Florida.

                                Product Description

Coalescent theory provides the foundation for molecular population genetics and genomics. It is the conceptual framework for studies of DNA sequence variation within species, and is the source of essential tools for making inferences about mutation, recombination, population structure and natural selection from DNA sequence data. This monograph is intended mainly for biologists but it will also be of interest to mathematicians who wish to see how this branch of applied probability theory plays out in a biological setting.
