Book Description
This dictionary contains about 80,000 Russian terms and their English/American equivalents representing the modern level of knowledge in all fields of agriculture, agricultural science and food production. Special attention is devoted to such fundamental branches of agricultural science and agricultural practice as animal husbandry and veterinary science, farming agriculture and field crop production, horticulture and growing of specific crops, agroforestry and agricultural reclamation, agropedology and science of soil improvement, agricultural engineering and farm machinery, agroecology and environmental protection, and economics of agriculture and farm management. The dictionary also reflects the view that modern agriculture and food production are integrating many biological technologies including molecular genetics, gene engineering, cell and tissue culture, and technical biochemistry. Polysemantic Russian terms are delineated in detail and the various meanings are defined with usage labels and brief explanations. The dictionary covers not only nouns but also a fairly broad range of verbs, adjectives, and adverbs, as they are used in modern agricultural scientific-technical literature.

Great companion book for taking the CHP Part II exam!.......1999-07-06
I took the Part II CHP exam this year. One of the questions was copied directly from this book. If you're having trouble with any solutions this book will help. It's a great companion book to have with Cember's text. If you're looking for great study materials for CHP, don't pass on this!
Customer Reviews:
Good, but not a great classic..........2003-10-23
Well, I read this in my Intro to Lit class. It was right after Frankenstein, so perhaps that made me like the book more than I normally would. Or maybe it was just Hawthorne's writing style. He tells us the story of Hester, a woman forced to wear the scarlet A for adultery in early Puritan America. How did they know she committed adultery? Her husband had not yet joined her in America and suddenly, she's pregnant. She refuses to reveal the father of her child. For the next couple of years we follow Hester, her daughter Pearl as she grows up isolated, and Pearl's father as well as Hester's newly returned husband...who has a new identity. Sometimes Hawthorne got so descriptive he went off-track, but for the most part, it's quite an interesting, almost soap opera storyline.
Putting Morals to the Test.......2002-12-14
The Scarlet Letter puts even the most morally secure people's beliefs to the test. The line between what is really sin and what is "different" in this novel is one that most cannot define at the end of finishing this book. It makes the reader think about the choices in their own life, and the choices they would make in situations such as those of Hester Prynne, Dimmsdale, and little Pearl. The Scarlet Letter has a wonderful way of depicting the exclusiveness of the early Puritans that is not outwardly horrible, but chips away at the patience of the reader until their feelings towards the Puritans are nothing but distain. The novel uses light and dark in ways that subconsciously show what is Godly and reverent and what is evil and sin. So many elements in The Scarlet Letter just capture the reader into wanting more, and I recommend this book to anyone who wants to challenge their beliefs.
A Great Classic.......2000-01-24
I first read this book in high school, and i didn't like it much, which was surprising because i really enjoy Hawthorne's short fiction. i again picked it up recently, and found that loved it. There no doubt that it is a difficult book to read, Hawthorne requires the reader to think as he reads. everything is symbolic of something in this book. Hawthorne has a mastery of the language that you just don't see anymore. think this is one we should re-read every few years, as we mature. I got the Norton edition, which helps a little with understanding the story, but most of the articles were not that helpful.
The Scarlet Letter.......1998-10-20
This was an interesting book. I liked the plot, but the author really needed to wrap up those words that I didn't understand. I mean, I can define any one of the words in the book, save few, but using about 5 of them in one sentence just makes me too confused to try to get into the story like I normally do.
Hawthorne's novel deals with issues that face all of mankind.......1998-07-09
The Scarlet Letter is one of those novels which richly repay a re-reading every 5 years or so. While most of us are first exposed to this great work in high school, few of us have the depth of understanding at that age to do the novel justice. Hawthorne's study of the human mind and heart, of the nature of evil, and his exploration of relative morality is a constant revelation to me. His symbolism and understanding resonate more deeply every time I pick this novel up again. A close reading of his language is especially rewarding. One of the great ironic, symbolic and passionate novels of all time.

Customer Reviews:
Great book for saving money and helping environment.......2006-01-29
This is a great book for anyone that has an interest in the environment. The practical tips also help individuals save money while making a positive impact.
Save Money, Make an Impact, Share it With Others.......2006-01-20
This is an amazing book. I didn't think I had a lot to learn about saving energy. The Authors do a great job describing just about all one needs to know in order to save money...and the planet and its resources while preventing climate change.
It was a very well-researched book. On some of the calculations, they state assumptions. Some are left on faith. This is OK. There were a few subtle details that may have been a bit overstated, however their estimates on how much can be saved are not exaggerations. If anything, they are conservative, especially given the cost of gas, heating and electricity...If only water were more expensive...alas!
This book inspired a Weatherstripping party at my apartment complex and has helped me have even more footholds into discussions about conservation and how much difference it can make.
Thanks to the Authors. Wonderful!!!
Exceptionally practical and a very interesting read.......2004-11-19
First, this book is very easy to read. Each tip is only a few pages long, so it is easy to read in small pieces or out-of-order. The information it presents is very practical, listing a wide array of energy-saving tips ranging from the more obvious (changing light bulbs and using programmable thermostats) to a good selection of not-so-obvious (getting off of junk mail lists, making green investments, identifying appliances which burn a lot of electricity even when they are turned off, cleaning your refrigerator coils, using carbon offsets, and many more). Overall, I was very impressed with the breadth of ideas represented here, which encompassed much more than I expected or could have ever thought of on my own.
Each tip provides interesting background as well as hard numbers so you can gauge the impact and determine if the tip makes sense for you.
Having read this book and implemented a number of the key tips, I have learned a lot and also cut my monthly electric bill roughly in half. I would strongly recommend this for anybody who is interested in saving money or sustainable living. And for around $10, given all the money you'll save, you can afford to give copies to your family and friends.
Where has this book BEEN all my life?.......2004-10-18
This is a MUST READ for anyone wanting to understand their personal contribution to Global Warming and what they can do about it!
This book tackles a daunting, huge problem in a VERY encouraging way. It provides tools anyone can use to reduce their personal contribution to this problem and that of their community and their nation. Let's hope many schools add this book to their curriculum!
