A Much Needed Text for Contemporary Social Work Practice.......2005-01-25

I'm a licensed clinical social worker in hospice, with a private practice in money therapy (working with clients on the psychological and spiritual issues underlying their money problems). I speak on the subject of spirituality in social work practice, and was delighted to come across a reference to this book while doing research. It addresses the ethical and legal issues social workers need to consider if they plan to utilize a spiritual or complementary context for, or interventions in, their work (I prefer Edward Canda's alternate term, "cultivations"). This is the only text of its kind of which I'm aware, and it's helped me to deepen and solidify the ethical component of my presentations. I especially enjoyed the discussion on the First Amendment and the idea of an "ethical ecology" (which I teach, but do not express in these terms; nevertheless, it's a concept with which I agree completely). I plan to encourage my students and hospice coworkers to read the book (I also highly recommend another book by Bulllis, "Spirituality in Social Work Practice"). The only complaint I have is that this edition (Paperback, 2001) was poorly edited -- too many typos and phrasings that should have been caught by an editor prior to publication. This makes for uneven reading in many spots, but still doesn't obscure the value of the content.

Newton's Laws held for 300 years until Einstein developed the 'special theory of relativity' in 1905. Experiments done since then show anomalies in that theory.

This book starts with a description of the special theory of relativity. It is shown that Einstein was not the first to derive the famous equation E = mc2, which has become synonymous with his name. Next, experimental evidence that cannot be explained by special relativity is given. In the light of this evidence, the two basic postulates of the special theory of relativity on the behaviour of light are shown to be untenable. A new theory (universal relativity) is developed, which conforms to the experimental evidence.

The movement of a conductor near a pole of a magnet and the movement of that pole near the conductor does not always give the same result. It has been claimed that this contradicts relativity theory. Experiments described in this book show that it is not special relativity but another basic law of physics that is contradicted - Faraday's Law.

The Big Bang theory of the beginning of the universe is questioned and an alternative proposed. The source of much of the mysterious missing 'dark matter' that has been sought for decades by astronomers is located. An explanation of the shapes of some galaxies is proffered.

This book presents an alternative to Einstein's special theory of relativity, solves many problems left unanswered by special relativity, gives a better fit to many phenomena and experimental data and is more philosophically appealing. Chasing a ghost.......2006-09-28

I've read the core of this work. I am convinced that Dr. Kelly did not have anything close to the mathematical ability to read Einstein's original paper, which contains very difficult formulas.
Instead, Dr. Kelly tried to get the gist of Einstein's ideas by reading the comments between the formulas. He siezed on one comment that seemed to equate rotating frames with inertial frames. In the book, Dr. Kelly's central argument is against this equivalence.
But Einstein did not equate these frames at all - Dr. Kelly simply misinterpreted a comment in the dense, poorly annotated Relativity theory. And yet, when he encountered books that spelt out Relativity in plain terms, he insisted they were the ones misreading Einstein.
Dr. Kelly's own 'theories' are mathematically facile and quickly lead to self-contradictions. There is a scientific mistake in the first paragraph of the first chapter. Perhaps the best use of the book is as an exercise for students, to find the errors?

An Attack Against Einstein's Theories.......2006-04-26

This is an interesting book, rather than just questioning Einstein's relativity theories he outright says that they are wrong. I've got to say that I'm not enough of a theoretical physicist to challenge much of what he says. There is one area though where I can challenge his new theories. He discusses time slowing down as a result of speed and says that this is incorrect. He says that time is absolute.

My understanding is that the atomic clocks that are in the Global Positioning Satellites have to be adjusted because of their speed. Exactly in accornance with Einstein's rules, their speed makes them keep time at a slower rate. In this book Mr. Kelly says that the clocks run slower, as if their base frequency changes. That's not quite true, they keep time at a slower rate when viewed from the earth because time itself is slower where they are or to be more precicse at the speed they are going.

In another part he says that the famous equasion relating energy vs. mass was developed before Einstein. OK, I can believe that. But those people didn't make the jump to a variable time as did Einstein -- that was the critical part of Einstein's Special Relativity.

As I said, I enjoyed the book, but don't quite agree. The essence of a good theory is that it can be used to predict things to be tested subsequently. One recent experiment proved that gravity waves have mass, exactly as predicted by Einstein.

There are cracks beginning to be shown in certain areas like quantuum mechanics, any yes, a new theory might come about sooner or later, but I don't think Mr. Kelly's thoughts make it.

well, im actually in the middle of writing an essay on the implementation of music in this book, in a romantic literature seminar in freiburg, germany. this is one of the most brilliant books we've read during the entire semester, exactly because, upon first reading this book, one sets it down with a smile and assumes that he has just enjoyed a splendid little novel about a "taugenichts" as a good for nothing is referred to in german. however, only upon examining the oft surfacing poetical songs of the novel and the easily over read subtleties of the lesser characters does one realize that the entire point and central theme of the book are something completely different that at first assumed. i can never remember so stark a smack in the face than i received while reading this book the fourth time through. the highest recommendation to anyone interested at all in the german literary romantic movement, or anyone else looking for a good, quick read (it's perfectly satisfying, as i've said, even if you dont dig deep).

The book is extremely interesting covering major events in Jewish history as early as circa 9000 BC (!) up through 1991. Of course most of it deals with the last 2000 years. What is most shocking is the documentation of antisemitism that is so widespread in just about every location on the globe and in every age.

The history spanning the last 100 years was most revealing, showing us bit by bit how the nation of Israel was re-formed, and how the current conflicts that we still see in the news today have progressed from their inception. My understanding of modern Jewish history increased dramatically by reading through what was going on in Israel and other parts of the world during the same time frames. The numerous accounts of events occurring before, during, and after WWII gave me a new-found perspective on the Jewish plight. It was quite eye-opening to find out just who, in the United States and abroad were supporters or enemies of the Jewish nation.

This is a tremendous collection of newsworthy events important to the Jewish culture arranged so that you can easily compare history in other parts of the world at the same time.
