A great introduction to warrant investments.......1996-08-08

This book is a magnificent introduction to warrant investments. Giving specific explanations of what a warrant is, how it works, and what makes it attractive, the author also clearly states the risks associated with the investment tool. This gives a fair picture of the tool, so that everybody can find out whether or not they want to use warrants for their own investment. The writing of the book is clearly understandable, even to non-investment freaks. Difficult terms are explained clearly, and the book leads the reader further into the subject with each chapter. After having read the book, you might not be the world's greatest expert on warrants, but you will definitely be in the position to make some money out of them. A book for anybody who wants to make some money!

A Must Read for Any China Watcher.......2003-08-10

I am fortunate enough to have been a student of Professor Peerenboom's at the UCLA School of Law where he practically teaches the contents of this book in his Comparative Law: China course.

While I'm not the biggest fan of his thin/thick rule of law approach, or of his categorization of China's possible rule of law systems into four groups, plus a 'Rule by Law' alternative, this theoretical framework largely succeeds in introducing the reader to China's somewhat byzantine legal system, and the enormous number of problems China's legal reformers face in its overhaul.

Professor Peerenboom is at his best when he takes the reader through the different elements that compose the Chinese legal world, and he does a fantastic job of imparting to the reader these complexities and how they all interrelate/integrate.

What I most admire about Professor Peerenboom's scholarship is how his analyses incorporate a multitude of highly complicated aspects overlooked to some degree by almost everyone else.

Wonderful overview of 20th century history.......2007-07-24

Norman Rich delivers another stunning account of diplomatic history this time from 1914 through the mid 1990's. For those unfamiliar with his work his account of Great Power diplomacy between 1814-1914 is among some of the best ever done. While this work is not quite as strong and strikes me as a little less thorough it still hits the mark. Beginning with the outbreak of World War 1 and tracking the history and counter myths the book provides an excellent summation. It the first we really only see European history with a little on the US and Asia. This book is truly a world history account and with so much to cover Rich is forced to glaze over a large amount. As usual it is pretty free from political bias and really makes the reader question the foreign policy decisions of previously untouchables such as Ronald Reagan. The rise of Asia and the Soviet Union are also very well done in this book and Rich displays an unusually keen understanding for the amount of pages he has to write on. One of the strong points of both books is the wonderful bibliography that has tons of suggestions for further reading. This really is an ideal book to start with when looking at diplomatic history of the world or just for gaining an understanding of the important events that happened in the 20th century.

Colors of the Sea Review.......2002-04-25

This book probably isn't as bad as I rank it--I was simply expecting something different than what I got. This book's focus is on colors of marine ANIMALS...it has nothing to do with basic reef/tropical photography.
As far as the pictures in the book are concerned, there are many very beautiful ones throughout. However, unless you are highly interested in close-ups of starfish, seahorses, and shrimp, I don't recommend this book. If you ARE interested in these things, then this book is a real value--like I already mentioned, the pictures are very high quality and, well, colorful.

A rehash of Caribbean Diving Guide........2007-05-15

The title of this book may have been re-worked but the product is still the same. What a pity these publishers do not take notice of constructive criticism. The book simply fails to reach the standards demanded by today's discerning Scuba Diver on just about all fronts except photography. Furthermore, this is not a book about the "Caribbean" at all - just a selective number of destinations the author happens to have visited - in some cases not even recently. Once again, therefore, the title of this book fails to match the product itself.

The content is a poor attempt to cover 28 dive sites from 9 countries. Not only is the choice of country questionable for a "Diving Guide," but not only the very best diving from each chosen location is included.

This book appears to have been thrown together from whatever material was available from a number of contributors and the result is a very disjointed effort. It would have been far better to send those contributors out into the Caribbean with a firm plan of action in order to ensure all destinations were covered and the information was up to date. Instead, the cheaper option was preferred and it shows.

The book commences with a very disappointing selection from the Bahamas - which avoids all mention of the world-famous Blue Holes (as though they do not even exist), followed by a brief trip to the Florida Keys. Since when were either the of these destinations "in" the Caribbean?

A trip to Cuba, which includes 3 low-grade sites (maximum depths of 20m, 15m and 10m respectively) is followed by Cotzumel (sic) where, yet again, the best sites are avoided. Four sites from the Caymans - predictably including "Stingray City" (yawn.), are followed by three in Belize - where the Author attempts to rename the "Great Blue Hole" the "Giant Blue Hole." After yet another disappointing visit to Honduras, the reader is treated to a 1,600 mile journey to Guadeloupe and Martinique for 2 dives each before rounding off the diving in continued disappointing fashion with the last 2 underwater sojourns being a further 500 miles away in Curacao.

This book is supposed to be about Diving in the Caribbean but destinations such as; Aruba, Barbados, Bonaire, BVI, Cayman Brac, Grenada, the Grenadines, USVI (to name but 8.) are not mentioned at all.

As already suggested, the photography is generally very good although a number of images are under-exposed and not up to the standard expected in this day and age. Quite frankly, if these publishers start using inferior photographs there will be no point in considering their products at all.

Altogether a book which is of little value to any serious diver.
