It is a very useful book for the people who don't know anything about risk management and especially financial risk management in banks.

Asset liability management can get rather complicated. The authors treat this subject in a very user friendly way that the layperson can understand, and the technician can get good guidance out of.

They cover all the basics really well. After studying this book, you will have a very good understanding of gap analysis, duration, shareholder value added, liquidity management, and other related subject.

The book offers a perfectly simple approach to ALM in banking. I cannot imagine a more concise framework for this subject. The authors fully attain their objective of providing fun reading for a banking subject,something really out of this world.

The author gives a brief history of the banking history, mainly in the USA and thus motivates the introduction of the several subsequent regulations put in place, and of the different methods os assesing risk and optimising capital allocation. The book excells in simple yet powerful risk management techniques for banks. I have recommended (and, in fact some times given away) this book both to my students and my colleagues in the asset management industry.

One of the most prominent and urgent problems in international governance is how the different branches and norms of international law interact, and what to do in the event of conflict. With no single 'international legislator' and a multitude of states, international organisations and tribunals making and enforcing the law, the international legal system is decentralised. This leads to a wide variety of international norms, ranging from customary international law and general principles of law, to multilateral and bilateral treaties on trade, the environment, human rights, the law of the sea, etc. Pauwelyn provides a framework on how these different norms interact, focusing on the relationship between the law of the WTO and other rules of international law. He also examines the hierarchy of norms within the WTO treaty. His recurring theme is how to marry trade and non-trade rules, or economic and non-economic objectives at the international level.

This monograph deals with the theoretical aspects of the circuit modelling of high-frequency electromagnetic structures using the Lorentz reciprocity theorem. This is the first book to cover the generalization from closed structures to open-boundary waveguides and circuit structures. The author has developed a new way to represent a general waveguide by transmission lines: and was awarded the Microwave Prize of the IEEE for this work. The first part of the book discusses the construction of transmission line models for waveguide structures. Then the incidence of external electromagnetic waves on high-frequency structures is studied, and finally the concepts derived in the earlier parts of the book are generalized to reciprocal and non-reciprocal anisotropic, bi-isotropic, and bianisotropic materials.

This book is very good by at least one reason, which is well known to the author:"...I tried to derive everything from Maxwell's equations" - everybody try, but only few can. The complicated knot of reciprocity, power conservation and self-adjointness of operators is investigated here for wide variety of modern physical applications. Excellent book.

Glad to know somebody reviewed this book.
I have a deep interest in the Shoshone history....though I am
a white causcasian female . Was searching for ONE book about
their history ..prior to white contact. Looks like there are
at least 3 books about Shoshone history. Too bad most
Americans have just forgotten about our Native Americans.

Excellent historical reading.......2002-04-30

This book is informative and in depth regarding the Shoshone nation of Wind River. I have now a deep respect for the honored Chief Washakie of their tribe. I wish I could have elected him President of the United States.

I recommend reading Geneva's Hope, a historical romance including reference to the Shoshone nation. It is make believe but gives insights into the nation. The romance novel Geneva's Hope is set in the late 1870's. The tribal nation is the Shoshone and the location is Ely, Nevada.

I also recommend Smitten (historical romance) by Payton Lee
