Stock Picking Made Easy.......2001-10-21

I just started investing seriously a couple of years ago, and am still learning. Mr. Boroson's book was invaluable to me. It contained a lot of concise, well-thought-out advice that was immediately relevent to today's uncertain investment climate. Most books about investing I've read are either too simple, or so complicated that you need to be Warren Buffet himself to understand them. I liked Mr. Boroson's book because it helped me think through decisions more clearly without trying to impress me with a lot of complicated terms and ideas that won't help me build a winning portfolio. I'm already putting some of Mr. Boroson's strategies to work!

In Complicit Fictions, James Fujii challenges traditional approaches to the study of Japanese narratives and Japanese culture in general. He employs current Western literary-critical theory to reveal the social and political contest inherent in modern Japanese literature and also confronts recent breakthroughs in literary studies coming out of Japan. The result is a major work that explicitly questions the eurocentric dimensions of our conception of modernity.
Modern Japanese literature has long been judged by Western and Japanese critics alike according to its ability to measure up to Western realist standards--standards that assume the centrality of an essential self, or subject. Consequently, it has been made to appear deficient, derivative, or exotically different. Fujii challenges this prevailing characterization by reconsidering the very notion of the subject. He focuses on such disparate twentieth-century writers as Natsume Soseki, Tokuda Shusei, Shimazaki Toson, and Origuchi Shinobu, and particularly on their divergent strategies to affirm subjecthood in narrative form. The author probes what has been ignored or suppressed in earlier studies--the contestation that inevitably marks the creation of subjects in a modern nation-state. He demonstrates that as writers negotiate the social imperatives of national interests (which always attempt to dictate the limits of subjecthood) they are ultimately unable to avoid complicity with the aims of the state.
Fujii confronts several historical issues in ways that will enlighten historians as well as literary critics. He engages theory to highlight what prevailing criticism typically ignores: the effects of urbanization on Japanese family life; the relation of literature to an emerging empire and to popular culture; the representations of gender, family, and sexuality in Meiji society. Most important is his exposure of the relationship between state formation and cultural production. His skillful weaving of literary theory, textual interpretation, and cultural history makes this a book that students and scholars of modern Japanese culture will refer to for years to come.

Kervran's Answer to Osteoporosis.......2006-07-27

This book is a hard read. Its very technical in detail yet it is reasonably understandable to anyone with average intelligence. Dr. Kervran tells how the life processes is maintained by the living organism's ability to create minerals that it needs from other elemental forms by altering their atomic structures. He mentions osteoporosis, among many other conditions, that develops because the body cannot assimilate calcium directly from foods and supplements which explains why persons with the disease are not helped by taking calcium supplements. He explains that manganese and organic silica will transmutate into an absorbable form of calcium that can reverse the disease. Many other life processes are explained as well. A very fine scientific work that is truly prize worthy.

Essentially, Kervran has postulated that biological organisms can transmute elements as needed, to some extent, and he proves it. A fascinating work that should be more widely read and appreciated.

Kervran was a leading member of 'Rentacrank'; that thankfully small group of incompetent scientists who take their ludicrous ideas straight to the newspapers or 'into print'. Anybody who reads this book is wasting their time. I am giving this book one star only because the software censors anything less.

Forgotten information of possible great significance.......1998-08-27

This book summarises over 20 years of research by Prof. C Louis Kervran, member of teh Academy of Science in Paris, into unexplained observations of biochemistry. For example, chickens that produce eggs even when fed no calcium. He details experiments carried out in the French Sahara into the thermal balance of oil rig workers: more heat energy and food was observed going into the workers than was being lost through perspiration in ambient temperatures well over body heat. A thought provoking book. His work was broadcast to the European public in the 1960s but little has been heard of it since.

Low Energy Fusion in biological systems?.......1998-08-24

Kervran discovered something about biological systems that has been ignored by science: the fact that certain elemental changes exist in living things. Under normal conditions, these changes would require high temperatures and radioactivity. But in living things, these changes help to stabilize life. It answers why electrolyte levels in blood remain constant, why chickens excrete more calcium than they ingest, why bones heal faster with vegetal silica and much more. Most western scientists are stuck in a rut of their own device and can't see anything past the set "laws" they have made for themselves. Unfortunately for them, the rules change between the test tube and the living organism and they have missed out in the benefits they could have by understanding biological transmutations. So many puzzles can be solved in for example nutrition by reading this book. Magnesium helps calcium absorb? Well that's what they say. Kervran will explain what is happening even there. He is a scientist, not a dangerous crackpot and his facts are now used all over the world, not just France. Nutritionists especially have found this book indispensible in understanding the pathways living organisms take to achieve homeostasis, or a stable system which would be impossible to explain by normal chemistry alone. Buy it and enjoy!

Comprehensive and accurate depiction of Grey Owl........1999-07-27

"The life and history of Grey OWL, without Donald B. Smith, is only conjecture." Donald, without a beat takes the reader, from the get go, into a detailed , informative , and throughly documented decription of the life of Archibald Stansfeld Belaney. Like a bible to a preacher, this work is replete with fascinating and delightful insights into a most remarkable character who did, in fact, realize a fantacy. The story of Grey Owl is complex, full of adventure, and quite exciting. Like most men he had some peculiar behavior traits; however, Donald Smith does a sensitive and objective analysis which offers the reader the opportunity to make up his or her mind as to the motives and desires of Grey Owl's heart, mind and inner spirit. The book is so well documented it brings to mind the thought that this work is a masterpiece, and if one has the opportunity to experience the Canada that Grey Owl describes, he or she will come to appreciate, the effort put forth by the author is a work, couched in love; e.g., every question I have raised in the pursuit of the Grey Owl Saga, can be found directly or by implication in this book. I was so moved by it I contacted the author personally. If one desires, especially if he or she has read any or all of Grey Owl's books, to know the facts concerning any and all aspects of his life (G.O.), simply read, and have handy Donald's book, as it will guide you to a deeper appreciation of Grey Owl and his marvelous accomplishments.
