Book Description
Marketing guru Philip Kotler shows entrepreneurs how to market their companies to investors
How can businesses do a better job of attracting capital? The answer: "Marketing!" Marketing expert Philip Kotler teams up with a renowned marketing consultant and an INSEAD professor for this practical, marketing-based approach to raising capital from investors. Based on the premise that entrepreneurs and business owners often don't understand what investors want and how they make their decisions, Attracting Investors offers a larger view of the factors involved, and guides both startup and veteran firms in effectively raising capital.
Philip Kotler (Glencoe, IL) is the S.C. Johnson & Son Distinguished Professor of International Marketing at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, and the author of 35 books. Hermawan Katajaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) runs MarkPlus, the largest marketing consulting firm in Indonesia, and is coauthor with Kotler of several books, including Repositioning Asia and Rethinking Marketing. S. David Young (Fontainebleu, France) is a Professor of Accounting and Control at INSEAD in Fountainebleu, France.

How to get to the money.......2006-01-23
This book is a little like a football play that looks great on the blackboard in the locker room but doesn't quite deliver once the players take the field. The concept is excellent: adapting marketing theory and techniques to the business of acquiring investment capital for your firm. Unfortunately, authors Philip Kotler, Hermawan Kartajaya and S. David Young spend too much time reviewing basics, such as potential sources of capital, and not enough on the marketing techniques themselves - which they don't begin discussing until about two-thirds of the way into the book. This shortcoming (and the lack of case histories) is balanced, however, by the authors' keen, market-oriented analysis of the characteristics that appeal most strongly to the various types of investors. This book outlines a smart, methodical approach to finding investors. We recommend this book despite its problems, believing that even an incomplete marketing approach to financing is better than chaos in the huddle.

Book Description
Written in language that students understand, the authors present problems in this workbook that help students grasp a conceptual understanding of physics. They start first with short, manageable questions followed by longer ones. Mathematical problem solving is emphasized but not the focus of the problems. Rather than repeat what physics textbooks present, this workbook uses problems to teach students the fundamentals of physics. Each problem builds on the preceding successfully completed one so the students are motivated by their success. The authors provide detailed solutions in the workbook for some problems for students to learn how to approach, and ultimately to solve, problems.
Customer Reviews:
Makes physics easy to learn!.......2000-09-21
This book was required for our introductory physics course at The Ohio State University. This book made physics much easier to understand, as I did not only the required problems but the extra problems as well. I found that the questions on the exams were almost word for word exactly like the problems in this book, which are explained step-by-step. By using this book, I earned an A in physics and gained a greater understanding of the course work. Use this book to bring physics to a fun level and make physics easy!

Customer Reviews:
A must-have volume!.......2005-01-25
It's been years since I've read aloud from this wonderful anthology to my twin sons who are now 16. But they still remember vibrant, lively selections like "Half a league, half a league, half a league onward ... " (The Charge of the Light Brigade) and "The Ransom of Red Chief" (which they loved but didn't really "get" until they were about 13). I credit this wonderful book with providing truly excellent literature to feed their hungry young brains. This book is part of their current success in school and life! BUY IT for your child or grandchild - or donate it to your local school library!
Awesome book! Highly recommended!.......2002-05-24
This is a keeper! Your kids will love to have you read aloud from this book. It is a compilation of stories arranged according to age-appropriate listening levels. All are well-known stories from well-known authors. Many stories, particularly the longer ones, are only excerpts; the editor has deliberately done this to whet the listeners' appetite.
If you like this book, you will like its companions: More Classics to Read Aloud to Your Children, and Classic Myths to Read Aloud.
Wonderful book for grandparents to give to grandchildren!.......1998-01-29
My father gave this book to me to read aloud while we traveled in the car. I have 4 children -with different attention spans -from teenagers to a Kindergartener- they all listened!! I loved that at the beginning of the books it would give us words thay might not understand and definitions. I loved the idea of knowing how long it would take to read a particular story. Classics that I have not read in years and classics that I have never read were included. If you are going on a car trip this book is a must! Great idea for grandparents to give or have around to read when grandchildren come to visit.

This is a great book to have on your shelves if you like to read aloud to your kids. It is a compilation of stories arranged according to age-appropriate listening levels. Some of the stories, particularly the longer ones, are only excerpts; hopefully, your child will want to read the entire story on his own after hearing you read aloud the portion in this book. I have read aloud many books to my kids and this is one of my favorites. All stories are well-known and by well-known authors.

Modernist aesthetics studied.......2002-12-17
In The Senses of Modernism, Sara Danius develops a radically new theoretical and historical understanding of high modernism. The author closely analyzes Thomas Mann's The Magic Mountain, Marcel Proust's Remembrance of Things Past, and James Joyce's Ulysses as narratives of the sweeping changes that affected high and low culture in the age of technological reproduction.
In her discussion of the years from 1880 to 1930, Danius proposes that the high-modernist aesthetic is inseparable from a technologically mediated crisis of the senses. She reveals the ways in which categories of perceiving and knowing are realigned when technological devices are capable of reproducing sense data. Sparked by innovations such as chronophotography, phonography, radiography, cinematography, and technologies of speed, this sudden shift in perceptual abilities had an effect on all arts of the time. Danius explores how perception, notably sight and hearing, is staged in the three most significant modern novels in German, French, and British literature. The Senses of Modernism connects technological change and formal innovation to transform the study of modernist aesthetics. Danius questions the longstanding acceptance of a binary relationship between high and low culture and describes the complicated relationship between modernism and technology, challenging the conceptual divide between a technological culture and a more properly aesthetic one.

Book Description
In Leaps in the Dark, John Waller presents another collection of revelations from the world of science. He considers experiments in which the scientists' awareness was not perhaps as keen as they might have claimed in retrospect; investigates the jealousy and opposition that scientific ideas can provoke; celebrates the scientists who were wrong, but for very good reasons; and discovers how national interest can affect scientists and their theories. The result is an entertaining and highly readable re-examination of scientific discoveries and reputations from the Renaissance to the twentieth century. The tales in Leaps in the Dark underscore the rich, fascinating complexity of scientific discovery. Writing in a clear and engaging style, and skilfully weaving history in with the science, John Waller brings these scientists to life, illustrating how their work and their discoveries influenced their careers and the wider world around them.
