The Vance/Deacon book "Think out of the Box" contains powerful tools whose simplicity belie their strength. Working visually and in color (to name two) are so obvious once ingrained that you wonder why you needed to have it pointed out. Therein lies the real power of the book; important techniques articulated by two of the most creative people around that really work. Not "tricks". No spoon feeding. You've got to actually think about what's being said but if you do I've found the results I was looking for quite in addition to some fascinating biographies. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Same old, same old. Save your money........1998-12-29

There is nothing fresh or original here. Often one wonders what the point of this book is (besides name dropping). The title should have been "Stuck Inside the Box." The profiles at the end are idle chit-chat with no relevance to the concept of breaking out of the box. If you're looking for an inspirational book for yourself or your organization, keep looking.

It is refreshing to read a business book that is proctical, motivating, AND has humor! The profiles at the chapter ends showcase the ideas as relevant to real-life people, not just theories. Quick, easy, great read.

Dull, bland and too long - that's how I would describe this book. I have a hard time imaging that even the people in this law firm were interested in this book. It billed itself as the behind the scenes view of one of the most powerful law firms in Wall Street and the scandals that brought it down - a legal Den of Thief's. Sorry, this description should almost be considered fraud. How could so much bad writing fall into one book? My only assumption is that the publisher must be related to the author and this is a favor or wedding present. Stay away from this book like you would a messy divorce.

When an oceanic tidal wave that is primarily active on the water surface passes an ocean shelf or a region with a seamount, it is split into a less energetic surface wave and other internal modes with different wavelengths and propagation speeds. This cascading process, from the barotropic tides to the baroclinic components, leads to the transformation of tidal energy into turbulence and heat, an important process for the dynamics of the lower ocean. Baroclinic Tides demonstrates the analytical and numerical methods used to study the generation and evolution of baroclinic tides and, by comparison with experiments and observational data, shows how to distinguish and interpret internal waves. Strongly non-linear solitary internal waves, which are generated by internal tidal waves at the final stage of their evolution, are investigated in detail. A wonderful well-written love story and socialist primer........1998-08-22

We think of socialists in one way, Carl Sandburg was probably not it. But his letters to his soon-to-be wife, Lillian Steichen, are full of his fabulous prose and whimsy. They met briefly in January, this book takes us from then until their marriage in June. Sweet and full of love, their letters also tell the story of the socialist party in the early 1900's.

If you need the facts about World War II, and you need them quick, The Historical Encyclopedia of World War II is a great source to get your info from! Although, the pieces in this book are fairly short, the point is made, and the facts are given, making this a great choice for students to use in those pesky research papers! I would definatly recommend this book to the avid fact-finder. However, if you're a history scholar of some kind, or if your planning to read for the pleasure factor, this book is probably not the greatest choice. Like I said earlier, this is the book to have for finding out the facts about WWII. I think it's also a great choice for history teachers to have in the class room for their students to have access to.

The cult of King Charles the Martyr did not spring into life fully formed in January 1649. Its component parts were fashioned during Charles's captivity and were readily available to preachers and eulogists in the weeks and months after the regicide. However, it was the publication of the Eikon Basilike in early February 1649 that established the image of Charles as a suffering, innocent king, walking in the footsteps of his Saviour to his own Calvary at Whitehall. The figure of the martyr and the shared set of images and beliefs surrounding him contributed to the survival of royalism and Anglicanism during the years of exile.With the Restoration the cult was given official status by the annexing of the Office for the 30th January in the Book of Common Prayer in 1662. The political theology underpinning the cult and a particular historiography of the Civil Wars were presented as the only orthodox reading of these events. Yet from the Exclusion Crisis onwards dissonant voices were heard challenging the orthodox interpretation. In these circumstances the cult began to fragment between those who retained the political theology of the 1650s and those who sought to adapt the cult to the changing political and dynastic circumstances of 1688 and 1714.This is the first study to deal exclusively with the cult and takes the story up until 1859, the year in which the Office for the 30th January was removed from the Book of Common Prayer. Apart from discussing the origins of the cult in war, revolution and defeat it also reveals the extent to which political debate in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries was conducted in terms of the Civil Wars. It also goes some way to explaining the persistence of conservative assumptions and patterns of thought. A good overview of the history of the development of the chemical industry. I include part of this information in my High School Chemistry classes to give the students some historical perspective of the science. Nice to have a good chunk of it in one reference.
