Multipreneuring - Career and Business Strategy........1999-07-22
Multipreneuring is a great career and business strategy. What one needs to do is to identify his/her strengths or special skills. Use these strengths or skills to develop multiple businesses and derive multiple incomes.
Read this book together with Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hills as well as The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey. You are on your way to Business and Career Success.
This is the future of how to earn a living without a 9-5 job.......1997-07-26
Being a "multipreneur" (now I know what it is I've been doing the past few years) I read the book from cover to cover. For people who are already "multipreneuring", it confirms many things you should be doing to run your business. The only negative that I found was that it would have been nice if it was more specific about "how to do it" and give samples (eg. sales letters). Also, a big dilemma I'm toying with, as I'm sure many multipreneurs are as well, is how do you get away from having to register multiple business names, multiple phone lines, web pages, business cards etc. to promote and run each "multipreneurial idea" that you may have. Obviously, it could become very expensive!
In summary, anyone that has lost their job or has many different business ideas that they want to try out, then "Multipreneuring" is a must read to get them started and to let them know that there is a name for it!

Book Description
The first reference to bring scientifically proven approaches to the practice of personal and executive coaching
The Evidence Based Coaching Handbook applies recent behavioral science research to executive and personal coaching, bringing multiple disciplines to bear on why and how coaching works. A groundbreaking resource for this burgeoning profession, this text presents several different coaching approaches along with the empirical and theoretical knowledge base supporting each.
Recognizing the special character of coaching-that the coaching process is non-medical, collaborative, and highly contextual-the authors lay out an evidence-based coaching model that allows practitioners to integrate their own expertise and the needs of their individual clients with the best current knowledge. This gives coaches the ability to better understand and optimize their own coaching interventions, while not having to conform to a single, rigidly defined practice standard.
The Evidence Based Coaching Handbook looks at various approaches and applies each to the same two case studies, demonstrating through this practical comparison the methods, assumptions, and concepts at work in the different approaches.
The coverage includes:
- An overview: a contextual model of coaching approaches
- Systems and complexity theory
- The behavioral perspective
- The humanistic perspective
- Cognitive coaching
- Adult development theory
- An integrative, goal-focused approach
- Psychoanalytically informed coaching
- Positive psychology
- An adult learning approach
- An adventure-based framework
- Culture and coaching
Customer Reviews:
A Great Resource in the Field of Coaching.......2006-05-11
Dianne Stober has been an active player in improving the field of executive coaching so I was delighted to see this publication. The handbook is comprehensive in coverage and well-organized. I am glad to see a book that has a strong theoretical base that also offers some easy to understand models and frameworks of coaching. While I enjoyed the entire book, I particularly liked the authors' chapter on a contextual approach to coaching as well as the chapter on positive psychology. I would highly recommend this book.
Academic Review.......2006-05-05
Notwithstanding the marketeering/hype that the book presents "scientifically proven" information, this "evidence-based" approach is on-target. In one source text the academic community now has a clearly presented body of knowledge from which we can trace how theory and practice can be linked. We also have a first opportunity to offer graduate programs or other disciplines where coaching is taught a volume that will allow an appreciation the breadth of coaching approaches available and the opportunties for engaging in further study as students, teachers, researchers, practitioners or combinations thereof. Within a few hours of reading this book (from cover to cover) I ordered 6 additional copies for our coaching faculty in the Organizational Dynamics Masters Degree program at the University of Pennsylvania.
I can't wait for the book to come out! .......2005-01-25
Dianne and Anthony - As a coach and social worker, I look forward to your work because I know that it will further develop and refine my skills. It will also evolve the coaching field as a whole. Thank you for taking the lead in this important area!

Book Description
History’s first clear, comprehensive work on metallurgy, first published in 1540, describing in detail the equipment and processes of 16th-century mining, smelting and metalworking. This is the definitive English translation, with a historical introduction to the author—a Siennese metallurgist and armament maker—and his work. Illustrated with reproductions of the 94 woodcuts that graced the original.
Customer Reviews:
The first metallurgy text.......1998-11-03
This is not an easy book to read. It predates Agriccola's De Re Metallica by several years, and has not yet made the bridge of thought from alchemy into chemistry. As a result, the section on fireworks speaks of principles of air and such to explain how they work.
Additionally, many of the usages are different than we think of them today. For example, in the production of Aqua Fortis (nitric acid), one of the steps involves the use of red alum. After 10 years of research, I finally figured out that this referred to alunite, a mineral alum found in a certain mine in Italy which contained a high level of iron.
Given the difficulty in interpreting what is being said, it is still an invaluable book to researchers in the field. It contains valuable information about the thought and processes in use in Italian metallurgy in the 16th century.

Book Description
Modulation Calorimetry reviews modulation techniques for measuring specific heat, thermal expansivity, temperature derivative of resistance, thermopower, and spectral absorptance. Owing to the periodic nature of the temperature oscillations, high sensitivity and excellent temperature resolution are peculiar to all these methods. The monograph presents the various methods of the modulation and of measuring the temperature oscillations. Important applications of the modulation techniques for studying physical phenomena in solids and liquids are considered in depth (equilibrium point defects, phase transitions, superconductors, liquid crystals, biological materials, relaxation phenomena in specific heat, and more).

A Loss of History.......2005-03-28
Wordsworth has always had critics - as well as admirers. His best critics have been those who have had a measure of respect for what has conveniently been called the 'Wordsworthian' vision or project. Almost all have puzzled over the paradoxical nature of W's career - the youthful republican idealist, who supported the French Revolution, and the conservative poet, who campaigned in the Tory cause. Almost all agree that W's later poems are somewhat less pleasing. Being pragmatic, why complain if a poet gifted with long life - found it impossible to maintain the flame or power required - to pour that vision into satisfactory form, as the decades rolled on.
Alan Liu's study is not so much a lament of Wordsworth's failing powers, or a perceived rigidity, so much as a critique of the whole Wordsworthian project. As such, it is about as engaging to read as a 'bad food'guide. Liu finds Wordsworth disasteful, he evidently lacks poetic feeling, and doesn't like poets, anyway. Hence, it would be futile to digress here on the reason why John Stuart Mill cured his chronic melancholia by reading W's work - tuning his mind to kindred impressions, and why countless other people have derived a similar strength from the most inspired elements of W's work. Alas, while Liu's critique claims to be correcting the historical background to the Wordsworthian narrative, he betrays a rather feeble understanding of W's era - and its tensions. According to Liu, the Wordsworthian project is really little more than substitution - a kind of aesthetic mask and living in bad faith. Hence, this is not so much literary criticism, as libel, even character assassination - dressed up as literary criticism.
So, be prepared, there are lots of infidelties in this tome of a book (or tomb of a poet). To take one example, Liu adduces W's love of the 'picturesque' - the category of the picturesque generally, as a falsifying idiom. But in fact, W denounced a certain, frivolous use of the picturesque, devoid of historically relevant human actors. Still, as a poet, W was keenly aware of the fact that sheep are neither Tory nor Liberal, and neither monarchist nor republican.
According to Alan Liu, the pastoral life celebrated in W's poetry constituted a denial of the economic oppression syn-onymous with the landed gentry. But in actual fact, social life in Cumberland and Westmoreland (now Cumbria)- both in W's lifetime - and today, has never had the oppressive, 'enclosed' atmosphere characteric of some other parts of Britain. By long custom, you can walk freely over the fells of the Lake District, which are not fenced in. The famous stone walls are there to enclose the sheep - not people, who are free to step over stiles. The system of sub-tenancy with sheep farmers in the Lake District has therefore avoided the enclosure that Alan Liu wished to read into the situation, and that open-spirit is reflected in W's poems. Hence, Liu's argument that there is an analogical relationship between the enclosure of space, politically and economically, with the aesthetic enclosure of space, is entirely misplaced in the context of W's poetry and pastoral vision. With complete honesty, W could refer to himself as wandering 'freely as a cloud.' Sorry, Alan, but get your facts right!
Being a confirmed cynic, Alan Liu is even scathing about The National Trust - which now owns and manages large swathes of the Lake District. Liu seems as ignorant of what The National Trust is, as he is of - Wordsworth. By purchasing the said land, and its pleasing perspectives, The National Trust has thus guaranteed that future generations will be able to enjoy it. In short, this land now belongs to the people of Britain, not the government, nor the landed gentry. Do your homework, Alan!

A SPECTACULAR CELEBRATION OF AN ARTIST'S LIFE.......2005-01-26
Over 1,200 sketches and preparatory studies that the great Catalan artist Joan Miro rendered have been reproduced, analyzed and presented in chronological order in what is surely the most comprehensive collection of the artist's work.
Born near Barcelona in 1893, the artist's centenary was celebrated with a magnificent exhibition at that city's Miro Foundation. Today, if you have an opportunity to visit, there is still a great deal to enjoy.
One of the most imaginative and colorful of the Surrealist painters, Miro's canvases may both beguile and puzzle. Picasso once said that you would live with Miro for years on end without learning the first thing about him. Thanks to the staggering scholarship so evident in this masterful volume, Miro aficionados will see the development of his work as it has never been seen before.
With 285 full-color illustrations and 1,276 in black and white, we are bequeathed the unparalleled opportunity of following the artist's hand from vision to preliminary sketch to canvas. An appendix is dedicated to the sculptures executed by Miro in the postwar years. Completing the volume is an extensive catalogue.
"The Roots of Miro" is a splendid examination, a spectacular celebration of his life and oeuvre. Few artists used color and imagery as did Miro. Few books would be fitting tribute - this one is.

WHISPERS: The Voices of Paranoia
ASIN: 0801444101 |
Book Description
"Don Quixote is the first great modern paranoid adventurer. . . . Grandiosity and persecution define the characters of Swift's Gulliver, Stendhal's Julien Sorel, Melville's Ahab, Dostoyevsky's Underground Man, Ibsen's Masterbuilder Solness, Strindberg's Captain (in A Father), Kafka's K., and Joyce's autobiographical hero Stephen Dedalus. . . . The all-encompassing conspiracy, very much in its original Rousseauvian cast, has become almost the normal way of representing society and its institutions since World War Two, giving impetus to heroic plots and counter-plots in a hundred films and in the novels of Burroughs, Heller, Ellison, Pynchon, Kesey, Mailer, DeLillo, and others."from Paranoia and Modernity
Paranoia, suspicion, and control have preoccupied key Western intellectuals since the sixteenth century. Paranoia is a dominant concern in modern literature, and its peculiar constellation of symptomsgrandiosity, suspicion, unfounded hostility, delusions of persecution and conspiracyare nearly obligatory psychological components of the modern hero.
How did paranoia come to the center of modern moral and intellectual consciousness? In Paranoia and Modernity, John Farrell brings literary criticism, psychology, and intellectual history to the attempt at an answer. He demonstrates the connection between paranoia and the long history of struggles over the question of agencythe extent to which we are free to act and responsible for our actions. He addresses a wide range of major authors from the late Middle Ages to the eighteenth century, among them Luther, Bacon, Cervantes, Descartes, Hobbes, Pascal, La Rochefoucauld, Swift, and Rousseau. Farrell shows how differently paranoid psychology looks at different historical junctures with different models of agency, and in the epilogue, "Paranoia and Postmodernism," he draws the implications for recent critical debates in the humanities.
Customer Reviews:
A Brilliant and Lucid Study.......2006-03-03
I agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Martindale. This book is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the intellectual climate of modernity. It is clearly written and compelling in its argument. It takes the reader from the intellectual positions of the medieval church through the upheavals of the Reformation, into the early eighteenth century, where the paranoid individual becomes a stock literary character and a suspicious slant informs the political analysis of so many major intellectuals. As a college professor, I have often noticed my students' tendency to find plots everywhere: in government, in the media, in our economic system. Their essays are peppered with references to "the system," a large, ubiquitious, invisible entity that is somehow everywhere are nowhere. They are also convined of something called "society," which seems, in their minds, to be a large kabal continually plotting to erode their dignity, autonomy, and self-esteem. When I push them for evidence of these sinister bodies, I'm often treated as naive or unreasonable. It is therefore refreshing and illuminating to read a monograph which so precisely traces the roots of our culture's habits of speech and argument. John Farrell is that double rarity: an erudite author without pretension and an academic with no axe to grind.
Another Great Book by John Farrell.......2006-01-14
John Farrell's brilliant new book is as thoroughgoing a critique of modernism as you will ever see. Farrell illustrates how we have given up on ourselves, and spent 400 years covering up our needless defeat.
The clear first chapter explains the outline of his thinking, the comparison of Gawain and the Green Knight with Don Quixote illustrates the nature of the problem, and from Martin Luther through Rousseau we see how modernism is played out. Now we are living with it.
This should be the book of the year for college faculties. It will not be as popular as Alan Bloom's "Closing of the American Mind," but it is more profound and good for the soul.

I had used this book only for a course. I was compelled to sell it once my course was done. I am glad I did.
C++ Plus Data Structures, Third Edition.......2006-09-29
This is the worst textbook I have ever had. I have no idea how anyone could learn to program from this mess. No complete examples, not very coherent chapter lay-out, extremely unclear. The best use of this book is for firewood.
Course book.......2005-11-14
Typically most students that take Data Structures are neither lazy nor stupid. This may be considered to be a good book if the person using it already knows the language and has good understanding of the principles used within the book. As a course book for people that are attempting to learn, this book has very little to offer. Sadly, I am in a class that requires this book. Everyone in the class is complaining about this book and even the teacher is having second thoughts about using it again. Probably the main problem is the cryptic code snippets included.
Excellent Style.......2005-04-29
I am surprised to see other reviewers say heinous thing about such a well written book. The book kept me on a course to implementing my codes with the best readable,OOP design methods available. It emphazises encapsulation and polymorphism and taught how well to use them.
I love the book because it lays a good foundation on data structures. The only critics of d book I've seen are either lazy, or not very clever and want a didactically simple text to ease their task.
Good job Nell Dale!
I'm speechless about this book..........2004-09-22
I've seen many worst books out there but this one seems to top it all. The author really makes simple thing complicated, I'm not sure why. I have a decent background in programming and I'm just trying to learn a bit more about Data strucctures and learn C++ at the same time (two birds with one stone, ya know)
but this book really gives me an Ulcer.
I'm reading this book b'cause I'm taking a class and unfortunately (you guess it) this is the required text book, but luckily I already finished post graduate school
so I'm just taking this class to improve my programming skills so having lousy grade is not an issue.
I can't wait to resell this lousy book. Does anyone know a better C++ Data structure book out there, besides this one of course?
Thank You
