NLP for Lazy Learning : Superlearning Strategies for Business and Personal Development

Book Description

Definitely one to avoid.......2003-01-24
Or maybe the members of the IAMT just don't read very much. Because a "best book" on learning this certainly is NOT.
Indeed, it seems that the author of "Lazy Learning" doesn't read much, either, since she seems to think that the only useful developments in education over the last quarter century are ALL down to NLP. Well, I'd certainly agree that NLP has made some useful contributions, but to write a book on learning which completely ignores developments such as Georgi Lozanov's "Accelerated Learning" and the Michel Thomas method of language teaching is both incomprehensible and inexcusable.
"NLP for Lazy Learning", in a nutshell, is a poorly constructed text, short on genuinely useful information and which seems, quite frequently, to be little more than an excuse for frequent "name dropping" and to allow the author to blow her own trumpet - long and load.
In short, whilst the title shows a certain flair for manipulative language, the book as a whole is probably one of the least substantial additions to the NLP bookshelf.
Definitely one to avoid.
A must for all teachers!.......2000-01-30

Excellent VC Contact Resource for Int'l Start - Up Companies.......2001-08-15
After reviewing most of the VC related literature the Insiders Guide was recommended to me. In contrast to other books, the Guide provided us with all the necessary VC contacts for a very affordable price ! The book is up to date and very well structured. The essays provide an interesting insight into the U.S. business habits.
The information from that book were incredibly helpful and accelerate our expansion to the west coast ! Thank you for that book and I am looking forward to the next edition with new VC contacts.
Don't Call On a VC Until You've Read This Book!.......2001-08-07
This is the book that will put you on the path to developing your strategic plan to raise capital. Don't underestimate the process, or how much competition there is to get a VCs attention, let alone his or her money. Read the articles, develop your plan, then use the book to target venture firms that make sense for your particular business. Once you have that done, you can do your best to figure out a way to get the proper introductions.
This is the book to start you on the right path. If you can't afford to buy this book, don't expect to raise sophisticated capital.
Comments from the Author.......2001-05-30
Four years ago while I was working in public accounting as an auditor (mostly auditing VC funds), I frequently met entrepreneurs that did not know how or where to find venture capital. Since I knew who all the VCs in town were, I began compiling their profiles and contact information. I then prepared hundreds of 20-page pamphlets that were stapled together and handed them out at a local networking event in San Diego.
Within an hour all the pamphlets had been snatched up. Months later, I would see entrepreneurs walking around at various networking events with these same pamphlets, clinging on to each falling page.
That is when I set out to compile the most useful resource tool available to entrepreneurs anywhere. I not only compiled over 400 profiles of funds actively seeking investment opportunities, but I also recruited over 20 nationally recognized venture capitalist and business leaders to write essays providing insight for entrepreneurs.
No other book combines the industry knowledge with the most current contact information for prospecting venture capital.
Excellent resource for VC's and Entrepreneurs.......2001-05-22

The Liberalization of Maritime Transport Services: With Special Reference to the WTO/GATS Framework (Hamburg Studies on Maritime Affairs)
Benjamin Parameswaran Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 3540222405 |
Book Description
Despite multiple efforts on the bilateral, regional and multilateral level to create uniform or at least harmonized rules for commercial operations and practices in the maritime transport sector and to liberalize maritime transport services by tearing down the barriers that exist in that sector, there is until today no global regime regulating (or rather deregulating) the supply of maritime transport services and ensuring open markets. In this situation, private economic actors are confronted with substantial legal uncertainty.
This book provides a detailed analysis of the history of maritime transport services in the Uruguay and post-Uruguay Round negotiations and the role of the sector in the ongoing Doha Round talks, where Member States have the opportunity to work towards a global regime ensuring the progressive liberalization of the sector. The reader will be confronted with an extensive overview of the role of maritime transport services in the WTO/GATS framework, a topic basically uncovered in the literature so far.

Red Seas: Ferdinand Smith and Radical Black Sailors in the United States and Jamaica
Gerald Horne Manufacturer: NYU Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0814736688 Release Date: 2005-06-20 |
Book Description
View the Table of Contents. Read the Introduction.
"Red Seas is biographical history at its best. It provides a glimpse into the life of one of the most powerful Black labor leaders in U.S. history, describes the trials and tribulations, the successes and failures, of building an independent, Communist-led union, and gives the reader a general feeling for the times. Horne has done all trade-unionist and working-class people a service with Red Seas. It is highly recommended."
Political Affairs
"The political connections of Harlem and the British West Indies have been crucial for at least a century, but until recent times almost invisible except to those intimately involvedÂ
. We are now, at long last, beginning to get a better grasp, and Gerald HorneÂ's Red Seas is a huge contribution to our understanding."
Paul Buhle, Monthly Review
"Horne's latest work is a forceful tract that all scholars writing about radical maritime politics, unionism, and race must take into account. Horne thus sets the standard for future scholars in this area."
Working USA
"In our own age of global commerce and U.S. hyperpower, what could be more instructive than the story of Ferdinand Smith, the Caribbean Communist who led a genuinely international, multicultural union in the years that birthed the American century? Gerald Horne's remarkable biography should be required reading for those who want to glimpse the potential power of that seafaring proletariat, in the last century as well as ours."
Nelson Lichtenstein, author of State of the Union: A Century of American Labor
ÂA major achievement. It not only illuminates the maritime sources of 20th century working class black radicalism, but reveals its ongoing and complicated interplay with racism and class struggle on a global scale.Â
Joe W. Trotter, Jr., Carnegie Mellon University
"A brilliant political biography--we are in Gerald Horne's debt for bringing to life a towering figure of the 20th century. A radical labor leader in the US and Jamaica who felt the sting of anticommunism on both shores, Ferdinand Smith also laid the groundwork for the modern civil rights movement."
Martha Biondi, author of To Stand and Fight: the Struggle for Civil Rights in Postwar New York City
"Exhaustively researched, this is a pioneering, insightful, sympathetic, and brilliant portrait of the life of Ferdinand Smith. A wonderful book."
Colin Palmer, Dodge Professor of History, Princeton University
Â
Red Seas offers a rich account of the Communist PartyÂ's centrality in twentieth- century anti-racist struggles, the critical role workers of colour and anti-racism played in the rise and decline of organized labor, and the tragedy of paths not taken, particularly toward the international labour alliances and organizing that might have forestalled the current international Ârace to the bottom.Â
International Journal of Maritime History
During the heyday of the U.S. and international labor movements in the 1930s and 1940s, Ferdinand Smith, the Jamaican-born co-founder and second-in-command of the National Maritime Union (NMU), stands out as one of the mostif not the mostpowerful black labor leaders in the United States. SmithÂ's active membership in the Communist Party, however, coupled with his bold labor radicalism and shaky immigration status, brought him under continual surveillance by U.S. authorities, especially during the Red Scare in the 1950s. Smith was eventually deported to his homeland of Jamaica, where he continued his radical labor and political organizing until his death in 1961.
Gerald Horne draws on SmithÂ's life to make insightful connections between labor radicalism and the Civil Rights Movementdemonstrating that the gains of the latter were propelled by the former and undermined by anticommunism. Moreover, Red Seas uncovers the little-known experiences of black sailors and their contribution to the struggle for labor and civil rights, the history of the Communist Party and its black members, and the significant dimensions of Jamaican labor and political radicalism.
