1 out of 5 stars Only for begginers.......2000-01-16

I bough this book looking for some useful insight in this area of astrology, but I only found comments for begginers. Not difficult to read, maybe useful for some, but too simple for anybody with some astrological knowledge. Do not buy it if you are looking for any deep thinking.

5 out of 5 stars Intelligent, insightful, fun.......1999-11-07

Wow! An astrology book that's great to read. I learned a lot about myself and how to be more successful. The examples are so motivating. I'm going to buy a copy for my boss.

5 out of 5 stars A REAL HELP!!.......1999-08-10

I'm not necessarily the biggest believer in astrology, but I certainly learned a lot reading this book. It helped me get some valuable insights about working with some other people in my life: my boss and a difficult coworker. After reading the chapter on my boss's sign, I tried a different approach with her about changing my work schedule, and it worked great!! I got my money's worth from this book in the first day. Wow!!

Book Description

Corporate actions are events that affect large corporations through to the individual investor - even those that own a single-share! All organizations that hold equity and debt securities for themselves and/or on behalf of others are affected when the issuer of a security announces an income or corporate action event. The successful management of the array of different event types requires understanding of the inherent risks, and tight controls at critical points in the event lifecycle. The management of income and corporate action events are important and essential parts of the securities industry business. Written by authors with many years experience within this sector, Corporate Actions: A Guide to Securities Event Management sets out to demystify the subject and provides a thorough, step-by-step introduction to corporate actions and income events.

Corporate Actions is a comprehensive source for understanding a major component of operational processing. The individual components and their relation to each other within the corporate actions lifecycle are explained in detail, through which the reader will gain a clear and thorough understanding of the lifecycle together with potential processing risks and the strategies to mitigate

Corporate Actions is essential reading for all those involved in the securities industry, from new recruits to those involved in both the day-to-day operations process and those within executive management. It will also prove invaluable to those providing consultancy and software solutions to the securities industry.

Corporate Actions is the first major work on this subject. Many people within the securities industry have heard of corporate actions - many people know they can be highly risky - many organizations have lost vast sums of cash in attempting to process them - very few understand them!

4 out of 5 stars Good book for IT professionals in BFSI.......2006-05-25

This is probably the first book on the subject. It may be especially helpful for IT professionals like me in Custodian Banking projects. I got my copy a few days ago and so far it has been a good read. There was always a dearth of suitable material on the subject of Corporate Actions. There used to be times when I would try to find definitions / descriptions of CA terms but would not find good ones even on googling. I would have to rely on second hand interpretations and what corporate/banking websites may say. CA are high risk prone and volatile from market to market with a multitude of interpretations. This book is a good back up and probably a good attempt in forming a baseline. A more descriptive section on SWIFT/ISO15022 standards / SMPG may be a additional bonus.

    Book Description

Many people submit to the law simply because they believe that the institutions administering it are just. But what if a law itself is unjust? The duty to obey law presupposes that laws are both consistent and just; because they aren't always, appeals to a higher political morality are sometimes necessary if justice is to be served.

Justifying Judgment reconsiders the relationship between legal and political philosophy to show that the former is incomplete without the latter. Taking the problem of how to solve difficult cases as his point of departure, Vincent Samar demonstrates the inherent incompleteness of conventional theories of law in order to examine the meaning of justice in a democratic society. He reviews the current state of legal and political theory and then sets forth a metatheory for law which would enable judges to decide such cases by drawing upon competing theories of jurisprudence as the case's level of abstraction demands.

Samar challenges the current wisdom that social morality can resolve every legal conflict by questioning the very principle of our submission to law. He re-examines some difficult cases from American history--Dred Scott, Brown v. Board of Education, Roe v. Wade, Romer v. Evans--in order to demonstrate the difficulties inherent in the law and to show that no single theory of law will always preserve the balance between individual and collective justice.

Every day, judges face difficult cases for which the law provides no firm precedents, and sometimes is even contradictory. Samar's work seeks to put justice back into law by encouraging law schools--and even the practice--to train future judges to consider a much wider approach to legal decision making. In different cases, judges would no longer confine themselves to an internal analysis of the legal materials. Instead, the could appeal to the best ethical theory of politics to meet the intellectual challenges involved in both clarifying concepts and justifying rights. By challenging conventional views of the law, the book shows that our legal system could become more just as it becomes becomes more consistent.

I enjoyed reading about natural resources in this textbook format, and have gone back to re-read chapters repeatedly. I found this text's approach much more enjoyable and enlightening than my prep school or college geology studies. However, the page layout of the images seemed amateurish:some photographs images were distored to fit the page.

Examples of muon research include muon catalysis for nuclear fusion; the application of muon spin probes to study microscopic magnetic properties of materials; electron labeling to help in the understanding of electron transfer in proteins; and non-destructive element analysis of the human body. Cosmic ray muons can also be used to study the inner structure of volcanoes.

                          Book Description

This is the first new full-scale anthology of Restoration and eighteenth-century drama in over sixty years. Concentrating on plays from the heyday of 1660-1737, it focuses especially on Restoration drama proper (1660-1688) and Revolution drama (1689-1714), with a smaller selection of plays from the early Georgian period (1715-1737) and a glimpse at the later Georgian period's "laughing comedy" (1770s and 80s). It includes nine sub-genres (heroic romance, political tragedy, personal tragedy, tragicomic romance, social comedy, subversive comedy, corrective satire, menippean satire, and laughing comedy), with the preponderance of exposure given to the jewel of this theatre, its comedy. The core canonical plays from the era - from Dryden's 'All for Love' and Behn's 'The Rover' to Congreve's 'The Way of the World' and Sheridan's 'School for Scandal' - are all here, but so are a remarkably wide range of non-canonical works. There are many more plays by women than in any previous general anthology of the drama of the period. Also included are a number of works from the neglected 1660s, whose comedies feature delightful, subversive, levelling folk elements. In all there are forty-one plays; each is fully annotated and prefaced with an historical introduction. Also included are a general introduction, head-notes for each genre, and a glossary.

5 out of 5 stars A broad selection of Restoration drama.......2006-03-07

This selection consists of nearly 2,000 pages of some of the best drama of the English Restoration, through the Glorious Revolution, and into the Georgian Period. The editors break up the works into categories, which are not always appropriate and are sometimes biased. The bulk of the book, however, consists of the works themselves along with brief introductions to the author and the play. The following plays are included in this selection:

"The History of Henry the Fifth" by Roger Boyle, First Earl of Orrery
                          "Tamerlane" by Nicholas Rowe

The Broadview Anthology of Restoration and Early Eighteenth-Century Drama, Concise Edition, with twenty-one plays, is half the length of the full anthology without compromising its breadth. Concentrating on plays from the heyday of 1660-1737, it focuses on Restoration drama proper and Revolution drama, with a selection from the early Georgian period and the later Georgian period's "laughing comedy." Seven of the nine sub-genres (personal tragedy, tragicomic romance, social comedy, subversive comedy, corrective satire, menippean satire, and laughing comedy) of the full anthology are represented, with the preponderance of exposure given to the jewel of this theatre, its comedy.

Each play is fully annotated and prefaced with an historical introduction. Also included are a general introduction, a statement of procedures, and a glossary.

This new anthology is extremely valuable in its inclusion of not only the canonized texts from the period but other, more difficult to obtain, texts. Among the 41 full texts are expected plays by Dryden, Lillo, Behn, Sheridan, etc., but also historically important works such as Boyle's THE HISTORY OF HENRY THE FIFTH,plays by female authors including Pix, Trotter, Centlivre, and Cowley, and secondary texts by major authors incoluding Gay's POLLY,
Dryden's AMPHITRYON, and Behn's THE LUCKY CHANCE. Valuable organizational charts and introductions add to the usefulness. It is a joy to have all of these works in one volume.
